Hi everyone,
It's Jess here and welcome or welcome back to my channel.
If you're new here, my name is Jess and I love doing DIY, making clothes in a "simply but pretty" way.
In today's video, I'm going to share with you a very details on how to make a Paperbag shorts from scratch.
This's a super comfy but pretty shorts that you can wear in the different styles. So to make this shorts, please check out my basic information below:
- Sewing machine: Merrit Joyful Sewing
- Material: 100% linen fabric in light grey color
- My body measurements: 82-64-92. I'm 165cm tall and usually wear S size
I'm not a professional fashion designer. And I'm learning sewing y myself. So you might find it right or wrong in my ways to make the clothes. But I hope it gives you some inspirations at least to start making clothes for yourself.

A tip for women with larger hips trying this pattern: place the pockets lower! The level where they sit in the pattern is over the hip, which will make them tight and hard to fit things into. Moving it down to just below the widest part of your hip will make a more natural pocket as your body narrows

Just finished making these shorts !! I used a thick material close to denim but I definitely recommend a thinner material like linen if you’re a beginner like me! Really easy instructions ☺️
I added 2 darts at the back to shape it a little more and it turned out well. Just put the darts in after you make the shorts but before sewing in the belt loops ☺️

I just made some of these shorts and I really like them. They are very comfy because if the elasticated waist. My waist to hip ratio is smaller than standard so I think next time I'd use the standard hip measurement for my waist so that I get the full flare.

I just made this in a day!! (except for the belt) great tutorial Jess, I love to learn a little pattern drafting! This is the first pants/trousers I ever made. I tried before with commercial patterns but I always fail. So if you'd make more shorts/pants/trouser tutorials that would make me very happy!! Keep up the good work :)

Can you please explain how you got 7 cm for the crotch line? I am a beginner and love your videos. But I found it a little hard to understand how you got the 7 cm measurement.

Actually, it's the width between the end of your crotch to the biggest position of your butt. So you can make sure your pants will be smaller than your butt

Yes you can! Just need to make the length of the first rectangle longer
I was lookin at your body measurements 82-64-92
I assume:
64 is your waist size/ hip size (11:28 mark)
92 widest part of hips
but i cant seem to figure out what's the 82.
82cm is my bust size which is the width of the circle around my breast.

At each step where I shared my measurements, I also shared the way I got it. So you can adjust to your body size to make your own pattern

No, it means 1m for the length and the width of the fabric is usually around 1.6m

Yes you can! But if that, you need to make the width of the front rectangle bigger
