lived there for a year 1960... wish I could remember more.. I got to see alot more at Ft Leonard wood,, MO.. 1965 used go to HQ and watch retreat on the weekends..
In 2006, I remember walking by Fort Dix HQ as a young E4 right before 1700. The DoD Police do the flag duty there and they were getting ready to fire the cannon. The guys called me over and asked me if I wanted to fire the cannon. Even though no one other than us and my buddy were around, I felt like I was on stage with thousands watching... Everything went off (literally) without a hitch. My buddy was able to snap a pic with my 6 megapixel camera 🤣🤣🤣. One of my fond memories of Fort Dix. Probably the only fond memory of that place.
I first experienced this as a 17 year old Navy recruit at Great Lakes, have never forgotten it 65 years later.
