Considering his last words were "captain. . ." As he was dying, I think this is what, in essence, he would be saying if he was more lively.

I love how the final “Greet the world with open arms” sounds like a plea. He’s calling to Odysseus.
I think all souls in the Underworld are affected by the circumstances of their deaths, but some souls are stronger than others. That’s why Tiresias is fully aware and able to interact with Odysseus.
And I think Polites is a little bit aware too, but the only words he *can* say as a ghost is the echo of his words earlier on, which he tries to turn into a plea.
And Odysseus’s mom has very little awareness, not able to see her son right next to her.

I keep seeing all the animatics posted by the artists and then posted by jay after ngl its kinda wholesome seeing the appreciation 🫶
It's even better-- I'm fairly sure Jay actually commissions some of them, including this one. This was one of the animatics he showed during the livestream, and this part of the song wasn't in any previews or snippets. Which means the general public was first introduced to this part of the song at the same time that this animatic was first shown, which means Mircsy had to have insider info through a commission.
The most savage comment I’ve ever seen was right before The Ocean Saga was released on one of the recap of what’s happened so far in epic videos Jay made and it was “Polites died by greeting a club with open arms 😔” and I will never forgive that commenter
It looks like dead people keep their last ideals and thoughts with them at underworld.
Other solders were blaming Odysseys. But Polites... no. Even when he get killed, he did not blame anybody. He still believed that this life was amazing until the very last moment.

I was devastated when I realized that Odysseus is listening to the last thing all these people said!
He hears screams of his men because that's how they died. Polites stood on his belief and Odysseus's mother died waiting for him and singing to him.

I didn't know much about the original Odyssey. But I wasn't expecting Polites to appear in the underworld. And then Odysseus's mom too?! I cried so hard and still cry whenever these parts come up in the song.

When I heard this song for the first time and heard his voice I got so sad. Like “NO!!! POLITES MY BOY!! WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DIE!! *sobs*” kind of sad. I ran completely to the other side of my house to show my brother too because I was watching it live.

God…I always cry at this part. I love it so much hearing his voice. So hopefully so joyful. I remember when I heard it kinda froze cuz I wasn’t ready to in a way face Polites in this part. You want to be happy hearing him again…then you remember where they are and it’s just the biggest gut punch.

I just love Epic. I love history since forever, and antiquity, the "age of heroes" is clearly one of my favorite thing to study because there is so much we don't know, between the myth and the reality and all. And so, I love the Odyssey. I discovered your work by having one of your short pop when I was scrolling, it was the "Circe vs Odysseus" and I can't stop listen to everything again and again and again. I love the way you tell the story, I love your interpretation of it and ofc the music.

The first time I heard this song, I broke down in tears hearing Polites. Then there's another gut punch with Odysseus's mother
How nice it is to see Polites!! Despite the fact that he had a very cruel death (he was literally annoyed by Polyphemus), and he still tries to bring a small ray of hope to the world of the dead. Why did Polites live so little? We need the positivity of Polites, we and Odysseus need it too much :(

It's an insanely cute detail, I think, because when we look at the stars, you make a wish, when Polites looked at the stars, he said his legendary phrase - you need to meet the world with open arms. Polites made his wish, but, alas... It will not come true not for Polites himself, nor for Polites's relatives, eh :(

it always makes me tear up, it reminds me of the attack on titan song under the tree. the desperation of wanting what's best for someone you care about. but those efforts being in vain. so many parallels between Odysseus and eren. this musical as a whole is like a conversation. it could be an answer for some people, and a question for others.
because life is so complex, and absurd and boring and similar and different. cruel and amazing.
there are so many dark spots in this life. so be cautious and as kind when you can, and try to be as happy in this life as you can.
