    Hey guys, just wanted to let you know. I just purchased 8 acres in Rockcastle County KY. It is off grid. I have wanted to do this for years, and watching your videos has given me the confidence that I can do this. I have a lot of the tools and equipment from past years. That will make it a little easier in the wallet. Thanks for all you do. Enjoy all of it.

    I've had my Carhartt coat for 7 years. I've fell down a steep rocky slope, slid down a Creek bank into freezing water, it's been soaked, used to smother a fire that got out of hand, keep me warm in the winter, dry in the spring/fall. Carhartt defiently makes the best outerwear. I've had to stitch it up in a few spot but it still is a great coat. I also traded a buddy my Walls Company Coveralls for a pair of old Carhartt Overalls. they are stained with paint and torn up but they've kept me warm every winter for the past 5 years. also to help waterproof your Carhartt you can rub it with "fixin" wax, like beeswax.

    My daughter would have done the same thing but only with 1D music playing in the background! You gal's can take work clothing and turn it into a fashion show...every time!!? hehe You wont regret this buy because I do drywall and in the winter they are the best thing ever. Keep putting out the great vids guys we are loving them.

    I'm a wildland firefighter for the forest service. A couple of years ago, the boss got the entire crew these jackets (poop brown) as a safety award. I love mine and don't know how I got along without it.

      Yay for poop brown jackets! That is a very nice award... much better than something to hang on your wall but maybe you get those too :) I'm still loving mine. Great buying decision.

    one of the best thing about carhartt is the YKK zippers...The warmest jacket in the world is useless with a broken zipper..YKK zippers are some of the best on the market.. I have had a carhartt coat for 15 years of heavy construction work use everyday during the winter and the zipper is still working great.

    I have a few carhartt pieces.
    Pants, lined pants, shorts, long and short sleeved tees, a Sherpa lined hoodie and a heavy duty work coat. Happy with them all. I'm in Florida now but go to the North Georgia Mtns too, so that's why I have the heavier stuff.

    I haven't found the hoods on the new women's coats big enough to shield the face in windy situations, so the merino thermal Buff neck tube is essential...also Heatsaver gloves from Oregon Glove Company, and fleece lined work pants from Duluth Trading company. THE BEST. Until it's below freezing, then insulated overalls (really heavy though for full days outside, and you still might need fleece pants underneath) But if you are working in wet snow or slush they get soaked and even heavier, so snowpants are essential then, but something roomy is hard to find, since women's ski pants are all about apres ski fashion! I'd recommend snowboard pants. Takes me 10-15 min to get dressed some days for the coldest days on our farm here in MN! But being cold sucks, so it's worth it.

      +Glen Dettman Oh no, sorry about that Glen! Should I do another video talking about how terrible the jacket is to keep the money in your wallet?! I couldn't do that though because this jacket really has been great so far, lol

    I bought these to keep warm on those -40F days... Nothing quite as warm that I have found. Seriously though the old soviet military surplus Siberian stuff is just outstanding for the price.

    Carhartt is a good choice.
    If you think Oregon is cold, you should spend one winter with us in northern Canada.

    You can extra line those pockets yourself? With pieces of old worn down Merino wool clothing?
    We use old/worn down Icebreaker brand garments for that.
    Sometimes we do it the lazy way by just crudely nitting a merino wool bag the size of the pocket and removebly attach it with doublesided tape and/or velcro.

    • @purelivingforlife
      @purelivingforlife  8 лет назад

      +J. Verheulst What a great idea! I like the lazy approach, mostly because we don't have a needle and thread HAHAHA! Ask me if I'm still feeling lazy come the next cold snap....

      @j.verheulst268 8 лет назад

      You can also do it 'quick an dirty' with ducktape ;-)

    Might I recommend Carhartt pants to go with your new jacket? The ruggedness is top notch. I own a mens work pant. And a womans work pant. I love my mens work pant because of the knee area more than the womans pant. I find the mens 28x34 fits a little big, but to me the design fits me well when bending and stooping to work outside. I put a pair of Cuddle Duds underneath and I am warm for a long time. (The womans Carhartt pant needs a little more work in the design area to me)

      +diane crossman Good to know! So far I've been warm enough in the jacket alone, but if we get another cold snap where we end up working outside, I may think about the bibs. I guess it'd be nice to try the mens / womens on in the store if possible.

    Another item that goes good with the jackets are insulated bib overalls. They are not as cumbersome and restrictive as coveralls. Also if your just wanting to come in and warm up and eat a meal , you can leave them on and just take the jacket off. I'd recommend the ones with a full length zipper in the legs, it makes it easier to slip on and off with boots.

    • @purelivingforlife
      @purelivingforlife  8 лет назад

      Yes! On the wish list! Jesse has those growing up and said they were great. Coveralls for the coldest of days.

    There's fashion and then there's function. If you ever wonder about durable clothing or tools etc. just go see what the pros wear or use. If you work outside keeping warm is important and i get what you mean about it being better if the coat is longer butt in some ways it's a bit of a crime... :)

    So did you take the tags off? Seriously does seem like a functional jacket. Thoughts after a month of wear n tear?

      @purelivingforlife  8 лет назад

      +Andrew Esposito Yea I took the tags off lol. So far I love it... I haven't been cold yet with the appropriate under-layers, which is really all I can ask for. It's easy to work in too.

    I'm an electrician and do a lot of construction work. I have worn Carhartt work clothes in the past and liked them, but I found that the quality and durability of Duluth Trading company clothes far exceeds Carhartt. The firehose work pants are amazingly strong and soft. For the work you guys are doing, I would strongly suggest you check out their website at www.duluthtrading.com. Good luck!

    I loved mine...i left it on a bench in the garage one day. German Shepherd thought it looked tasty. Found it in the yard in pieces. No more carhartt coat.

    I have a "Berne" brand jacket, kindof a cheaper Carhart copycat. Same construction, cheaper in price. Works great for me but I'm not a hardcore homesteader so, take that with a grain of salt I suppose :)

    Guys what type of wood stove is that? Do you like it? JC

    • @purelivingforlife
      @purelivingforlife  8 лет назад

      It's a small barrel stove with a glass view window in front and cooking pads on top. Has a blower in the back which is nice when we have the generator on. It's a nice little stove. We are getting used to getting the max heat as well as all night burns out of it. For the price we did well, only $200 on Craigslist. But if I had my dream stove Id go for something in the Mountain King line. This stove leaks a lot of air so it's hard to shut it down all the way at night. The best we've been able to do so far is a 5 hour burn and that's pushing it.

    • @JCAJCA3
      @JCAJCA3 8 лет назад

      +Pure Living for Life Thanks for the quick reply. 5 hours burn time. Thats a little short. Appalachian Homestead has a nice video on their liberty wood stove. Will check out Mountain King. BTW, I really think you two are doing great. Well thought out plan. Persistent attitude. I cant wait to see your progress after a year or so! GOD bless, JC
