The button on the Helly Hansen is for a knife sheath. Here in Europe the typical construction site knives come with a plastic sheath that has a little hole to pass over the button, then you put the tip of the sheath through the loop below the button that stop the knife from swinging around.
The little button on the right leg is for a morakniv. It's a common EDC for tradies in Europe. The case for the knife is hard plastic and had a keyhole that fits the button perfectly!
I bought a few pair of Dovetail pants a year ago and they have been super durable. I am short (5’ 2”) and got some hips and they fit me really well. Really nice pockets too. I had a few coworkers asking me about my pants. They were interested until I told them they were owned by women made mostly for women…🤷♀️😂
girl the carhartt crawford pants were IN MY CART when I found your vid. So glad I watched this first because everything about them looks horrible. Why do companies have SUCH a hard time designing womens workwear??! we don't want low rise! we don't want tight fit! we don't want cheap stretchy fabric! lol you know my frustration. thanks for the vid! I'm gonna keep shopping 🛍
My favorite work pants at the moment are the Caterpillar Trademark Pants (I believe that’s what they’re called) many pockets, tough, comfortable (enough) and has built in pockets for knee pads..
That button sticking out by the side pockets is for a knife sheath. Not sure if you use knifes like ours (I live in Finland), but if you google for "Hultafors HVK Craftsman's Knife" you know what I mean. And the knife mentioned is nice and cheap, I try to remember when I have just got a new one on me to not to use it as a concrete chisel, but eventually all of them becomes one. Same manufacturer does make a knife with a chisel tip though, but as it is for wood, I don't think that I would have that much of use for it as an electrician.
When they *finally* came out with womens trousers for military uniforms. They are heaven, fit around the waist, loose around the leg with functional pockets.
Love this vid....I'm a commercial electrician and I had issues as well and went with Columbia ...all the others were way too long for me with a 31 30ish length lol....I'm in the Air Guard here in FL and didn't want to be that guy who wares his multi game to a civilian job site. Happy Taco Tuesday
Lexi, thank you for this video! I’m a woman who started in the Fashion industry, and now I work in Manufacturing…. There is a dire deficit of well fitting and practical (nevermind feminine or fashionable!) women’s work clothing. Could you review Duluth? Dovetail? Xena work boots?
Loved this! Thank you so much! I have carhartt overalls and had to upsize as well. I look like a balloon haha but they’re functional. Totally have the same issue with bathroom use so I try to flip it the opposite way when I’m sitting and try to remember to not let it fall forward xD
Came across your video as i was watching carhartt reviews, i agree that the company needs to make durable and affordable work wear for todays women on the jobs out in America. You're the real deal lady, funny and whitty on the truth. Keep it up and thank you for letting us know about your opinion. Btw cute undies..
I love it! It's the only belt I've come across that came in different waist sizes. Most belts are way too big for me so getting one that fits has made a huge difference!
I've been using Truewerk for a while now and they've been great pants. Obviously, male fit but I've heard good things about the women's fit. I've enjoyed Snickers pants (euro style like the Helly Hansen pants) as well as 1620. The 1620 are very spendy and I'm not sure if they have any women's fit but I know Truewerk and the Snickers do. I abandoned Carhartt and Dickies years ago.
Seconding TrueWerk -- I have their bib for when it gets colder, and even their 'fall' T3 warmth is enough to keep my plenty warm down to about 15F (-10C) with just normal pants underneath. If I had a proper thermal layer underneath it'd probably be even better. My go-to pants have been 5.11s for a while, but as they age out I'm definitely replacing them with TrueWerk -- their pocket layout looks vastly superior; bigger cell phone pocket to accommodate the modern slabs with a case, and a dedicated pen/pencil pocket is spot-on. TrueWerk does have dedicated women's fit (albeit with a fraction of the options) which appear to sit properly at a woman's waist so that bodes well that they've at least, like... measured... or asked women how they like to wear work pants. I've heard nothing but good things about Snickers as well. They look very similar, but look to be sold primarily over in Europe, although they appear to have US sellers online. If you like the attached pocket deals, then definitely look at them, they also have a dedicated women's line that doesn't look half-assed (both literally and figuratively)
i just bought these today! i forgot i watched this video ages ago i couldn't afford them at the time. looked the pants up on youtube and here is your video again lol! are you union? i'm also in van, newer apprentice
Carhartt used to make a canvas ladies work pant and I LOVED them, but they are discontinued now. They were not easily available in Canada and I usually had to ship them to my sister's PO box in the states and then she would drive across and grab them for me. They were much tougher; I wouldn't even touch the generic tissue paper ones. I have recently bought a pair of the straight leg ladies denim carhartts and I was actually pleasantly surprised... The fact that they are so stretchy seems to make them tear less easily? Maybe? I dunno. I DO however actually prefer a nice slim fit work pant, as it's easier for army crawling through attics and crawl spaces without catching myself on things.
What lengths you had to go through just for work clothes! I'm glad you found a pair you like. I'm hesitant to try another pair from them, but will keep my eye out for the denim ones!
@@LexElectric oh man I was so hesitant too… and furious they discontinued the only decent ones I had found. When I contacted carhartt they suggested I try a thinner crappier pair and told me that was the replacement version. 😡 I’ve really wanted to try the dovetails, but refuse to throw down that much money without trying them in in person, and can’t find them on Vancouver Island!
@@vivgleeson8057 Ugh great customer service eh! I'm the same. I tried buying Duluth but their sizing was way off. Two pairs of the same size were vastly different and fit horribly. Had to pay shipping to return them, won't do that again.
6 years ago Carhart made the best womens work pants and they were thick and fit me perfect. Now they're huge and very cheaply made with different material. I stopped buying the brand..
Hey Lex! Any way you could shoot us other just starting up electrical apprentices a comment about what kind of winter coats you wear on the jobsite? I'm just starting in January, and I'm pretty worried about the cold!
My favorite work pants are the wranglers cotton insulated idk the specific name :/. They don’t got the fancy pockets but they do have more pockets then regular work pants. I do wanna buy a pair of HH tho. Just got HH rain bibs and I’m really happy with the purchase already because they have more than one freaking pocket😂
i recently bought a pair of carpenter pants by dickies and i rlly like them lol literally last week. i’m planning to get into welding after i graduate high school and i want to buy more cuz THESE JEANS I BOUGHT WERE THE ONLY ONES LEFT IN TOWN 😤 and might buy more online haha
Haha yes do it ! Welding might require fire retardant pants but I'm sure you'll learn all of that in trade school. But also please enjoy high school while you can ☺️
Do you have snickers workwear in Canada, USA ? they seem like the UK version of hilly hanson, brilliant for electricians, as they have removeable kneepads, and lots of pockets for your cutters, screwdrivers etc, lot more expensive, but honestly dont mind paying that bit more for quality
A good tip for the overalls is to tuck the bib into the inside of your pants! Most of the time all your stuff won't fall out and it won't touch yucky floor
I am listing through surround sound headphones with the hear thorough capabilities. I thought a critter got into my office, but something must be in the audio.
Womenswear in general is made crappier than menswear...like they think we aren't working as hard. And it seems the womenswear comes in either sex kitten or guy clothes...hard to find good fit, high quality and serious work wear. The Duluth ones I have have held up pretty well, could be tougher though...and need more pockets!
i hate having to but pants because even in womenswear, it seems like they're made for "tall with no curves" or "short/petite with curves". but i am "tall" (5'7) WITH CURVES!!!
Sorry the selection for women's pants isn't great! Hopefully more women enter the trades and these companies will have to pay attention. I've had good luck with Duluth Fire hose pants. They've lasted a long time. I like my newer Carhartt pants, too, except the corner of the cargo pockets are right on my kneecaps and are so uncomfortable to crouch in because of that.
I actually bought Duluth pants but the sizing was way off! Both were the same size but one was huge, one was just... Weird shaped? I had to pay to return them too, so won't be wanting to try them again.
Actually there are a LOT of women in trades. At least enough to warrant uniforms and work wear that FIT us. Maybe the industry should be more women friendly?....
Hi! I’m currently looking for lined work pants that are thick, they don’t make ones that will fit me- I’ve got the same problem as you where I would have to get the men’s altered. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous that Carhartt makes the “work pants” that fit a 4 year old boy but won’t fit me, an adult woman who needs them for pure functionality/ work.
The Carhartt lined work pants reminds me when Dickies made pants for women(Dickies Girl). Just not made to be tough, just to look cute, and make girls feel like they're rock ready.
And Carharttt does not accept feedback! To be a product tester is a very limited opportunity, so they probably don't even know or care that their women's line sucks.
