Ive grown from one pair, which I still love and are my go tos, to 7 pairs of pants, jacket, two hoodies, multiple tees & flannels. As hard as Carhartt is to get in Australia its one of the most comfortable, warm, practical and reliable brands I've found. Plus I can get it in my size (I clock in at 160kg and 186cm tall) so finding off the shelf in my size is nigh impossible. I will go Carhartt over anything any day.
Great review. I've been wearing Dickies for 20 years. They fit great for me where nothing else does. Far as work goes I get 5+ years from a pair of dickies and give them no love. It don't matter what oil/dirt/grime you rub into them they wash clean. They always look un stained after washing. That's a big deal for work pants and the comfort I get from them every time I put them on.
Dude I'm in México and there is a Carhartt plant like 3km from my home (2mi in imperial) and I didnt see any Carhartt products till i was like in High School.
I’ve been buying Dickies for years and much of it is made in Mexico. Pretty sure some of the Carharrt stuff is too. The quality is excellent in all cases.
I had a pair of those double front carhartt pants and they last for YEARS while I worked for the railroad doing track maintenance.. they never wore out I just got too fat for them and they didn’t fit anymore. Also, I use the hammer loop all the time when I do renovations at my house, I find it so practical.
I feel like it's regional. In southern California, you can find dickies clothing (casual and work) just about anywhere. The only places I ever saw carhartt was at sears and it was twice the price of dickies pants. That being said, I am a big fan of carhartt midnight zip up hoodies. They are a bit short but if that's not an issue they will last you a good few years.
This is very true. I grew up in Orange County (southern California) where dickies were my go-to work/school/everytime wear, but for the better part of a decade I’ve lived in Detroit and Carhartt reigns supreme.
I dunno about regional, but I think outside of New England and dedicated industrial cities Carhartt has more limited distribution than Dickies. In the Midwest Dickies are in about every Wal-Mart and Menards while Carhartts are found in Meijers, Rural King, or dedicated workwear stores. Wal-Mart and Menards are much more common than Meijer or RK.
This stuff is expensive in Australia so I buy my own from the US and still save even with the shipping. Carharrt is over the top with Australia pricing. They’re regarded as a fashion item here whereas they’re just working mans gear in the US , as they should be. I usually snip the hammer loop off as it’s more of a PITA than a benefit and is an entanglement hazard too. I can buy and replace Dickies for a lot less so tend to buy them. Just sold 4 pair slightly used Carharrt rip-stop pants and can confirm they’re almost ridiculously heavy duty. Too heavy for here but the tan colour was excellent for not showing the desert dust and cooler unlike the crappy dark blue work pants the rail companies seem to insist everyone wears. I like the Dickies twill cargos and their basic jeans are good value too.
The Carhartt FR pants are light weight but still durable. I actually preferred them over my regular Carhartt pants. They were softer and lighter. Good for almost everything.
Carl Murawski the pants were good, the shirt was okay. Have you done a bibs review? The newer model from Carhartt with the zipper across the chest and the stretch sides are controversial.
I wear only carhartt ripstop cargo pants and they are great especially for 50$ iv worn the whole fronts out of many pairs, my mother patches them all up for me and I wear the patches out. My favorite pants
As a propane delivery driver I love the double front Carhartt jeans. So worth the extra money and I’ll never go back to Walmart jeans again lol. Great video brother.
hey dude really enjoy the content! i can watch your videos all day. just finished electrical trade school and i'm really starting to like workwear and leather boots. anyways cheers from ontario canada
I would say that was a fair review. I wear Dickies to work, I'm poor. If I was making Union wages, I would buy Carhartt. A few years ago I splurged on a pair of LL Bean workpants, they were terrible. Tore to bits in no time, what a waste of money.
Carl Murawski So I ended up getting the Carhartt double front work pant off dungarees. I bought the factory 2nd honestly it’s really nice because you get the quality and the reduced price but there’s a imperfection almost no one will ever notice. Not sure your opinion on the matter is, but I think they are a excellent option for people who don’t have the money for the ones off the site I think that would be a good video idea or one you could bring up in a discussion. Not sure if you noticed this but the sizing is a bit strange on the waist I am a 34 and ordered as such and they were pretty tight. I still love the pants gonna wear them anyways and just hope the duck canvas will stretch with time. Haha then after I got them I searched them up on RUclips to try to relieve my buyers remorse and there was your came out about a hour before the package came in the mail. Much cemented my buy I am very happy with my pant and I completely agree with your video carhartt just does it better but dickies is a good option for for novice level workers or people who can’t afford OR deal with the break in period I remember with my carhartt jacket it took like a month or two to break in and in that time the material was firm super boxy and alittle tough to move. But after that it’s the best jacket you will ever own and I am sure it is the same with the pants.(Carhartt choir jacket)
Worn both brands for 15-20 years, in my experience one brand holds up as long as the other. Carhartts are a baggier fit which I don’t care for, the Dickies are a more regular fit which suits my build better. One clear advantage Carhartt has is their front pockets have a larger opening and much easier to slide your hands in, Dickies are smaller and can have a bit of a tight feel, especially when seated. I love my Carhartt bibs, have yet to try Dickies in those. And I wish both/either offered a pant without the hammer loop and give me the utility pockets like the opposite side, I throw pliers n such in those often.
Never tried Dickies. However, I have tried Carhartt’s Double Front and cargo pants. Pretty bomber. But. For cheap pants that wear in and not out try Cactus Cupertrousers from Christchurch in New Zealand. Made with a canvas blend of polyester and cotton they are regularly tested in cement mixers for durability. If you want something tough go with the Supertrousers. Watch the sizing though as they run tight.
I love both brands but according to my wallet Dickies is affordable. Carhartt is a lil overpriced in my opinion. But hey, it's all the price tag so I choose Dickies. ✌🏼
@Marc Carran when you’re working a really tough trade like railway track maintenance or as a iron worker connecting steal beams where your clothes REALLY get shredded in no time? That $15 adds up quickly where it would make more sense to get the Dickie’s. Cause both will become shredded in no time. I speak from experience.
The Carhartt B151 is what my work issues for me for cable installation. Every single year (thankfully we get a clothing allowance for only specific items) I have to purchase a few new pairs using up most of my allowance just on pants. As cable installer mostly in crawl spaces and attics, on the knees. The knees always get holes in them with the B151 other wise no other issues.
Being an Aussie i was taken by the Carhartt double front, which i’d prefer over the dickies but i cant find any Carhartt locally. So i ended up digging up my Aussie equivalent the “ Hard Yakka Men's Legends Cargo Pants” which are nicely patina’d with hardwood stains, the odd spot of paint etc after some serious usage. I wonder how these compare to the Carhartts. The Hard Yakka’s have cordura panels in all high abrasion areas & being made with these panels, theres a good chance they could out-do the Carhartts. I wish i could upload a photo of them to show.
Buy enough pairs so you don't have to worry about laundry for the week if these are your everyday work pants. Carhartt is overall better but 3 Dickies pants beats 2 Carhartt pants. I have seen guys just spray inside of their pants with a spray instead of washing them for the week. Some of my more experienced coworkers even told me how they wardrobe certain stores by wearing them straight then exchanging them for the same pair.
Carl Murawski much appreciated!! As soon as I can leave SA and visit the states I’ll be on a plane, with a visit planned your side. Will grab a pair then🙌🏻 thanks friend, is much appreciated
Good review. Thanks. slightly off topic, but unfortunately Carhartt has permanently discontinued all of their HD canvas Duck shorts. I used to love those indestructible shorts in both 8.5" and 10". Dickie's seem much lower quality. I don't know what to replace them with now.
I wasted about 90USD on two pairs of Dickies pants so far and now wear Bonobos pants (am not a worker) - apparently they weren't designed for thighs bigger than 22 inches even when I sized up to 34 waist - ungodly discomfort against the skin -crotch wears out instantly
ive only recently found your channel but I love your reviews. alot of factual information presented, when you present opinion its given as such and not misrepresented as fact, and you seem to be fair and unbiased when youre reviewing the various brands. Great videos sir . To answer the question in this video though, I have plenty Carhartt and Dickies pants and your review is pretty spot on in my opinion. Dickies is more comfortable and doesnt need break-in time, Carhartt lasts a little longer and a bit more sturdy. I dont have a preference with the pants, you cant go wrong either way. If we expand to coats etc, i lean more Carhartt in an all around comparison.
I’m a welder and I buy carhartts. It’s an American brand and it great for longevity. This is my brand for hard work. Just like when I want a good tea I go for UK brand teas to start my day, it’s all just quality to start my day to last me all day I go for the best
Thanks, I watched your video on work boots me I find pay a little more for a longer lasting product true for boots and work clothes if you take care of them
I've been fortunate with my line of work that the company has provided me with uniforms. The uniforms always came with Carhartt denim carpenter style pants. I do prefer the Carhartt brand of carpenter pants but, I've personally purchased the Dickies brand of denim carpenter style pants & the Wrangler Rip Stop carpenter style of pants also. The Dickies & Wrangler brands have both held up very well for the things I do when not at the "Day Job". My only disappointments with the Dickies brand is the fly zipper is a lighter gauge & the denim seems to stain the vinyl seat of the equipment blue when spending a lot of time in the operator seat. I did like the Wrangler Rip Stop pants was the double front on the legs.
I have Dickies khaki pants and those were my first with the side pockets for phone and other tools. I just loved that feature. Now I am heavy into Carhartt and both several new and second hand pieces, including the duck double front pants and dungarees. I love them both and today I found a dickies duck pants, which felt great on me really - soft and relaxed fit. I was in doubt to buy them at the day price, but if they are in the store around thursday I will probably buy them for about 7$. Which is a pretty good deal for mexican work pants in Eastern Europe. Btw Carl, I love your channel! Keep up the good work - online and offline!
It always catches me off guard when i see Dickies and Carhartts being used as designed - at work. In Poland they are so expensive i wouldn't dare to do even the cleanest work in them. I once went skating in 874 and fell on the ground. Never forgave myself for that
@@CarlMurawski Cześć :D Of course You can find them second handed for cheaper, but usualy they are already damaged or in weird sizes. And there are not many of them. At the moment i want to buy 873 - second-handed i can only find skinny fit or some weird sizes. New at the shop (of course skateshop or urban wear shop) are like 70 - 80 dollars.
Have you ever checked out red kap work where? I think they mostly make uniform style shirts and pants similar to your classic Dickies but I've seen a lot of guys that I know that work automotive and plumbing and those kind of trades really love them might be worth the video If you think the brand is worth covering
I’m a dickies man. As far as work wear, I like to replace it every 2 years. I don’t really want pants or the same old jacket for 10 years. I also wear dickies casually and I’m happy to replaced every couple years. Tbh I’ve had a dickies Eisenhower jacket last me over 8 years. Also, I’m in California. I think dickies is more west coast and Carhartt is more east coast.
by the way, thank you for all the wool garment reviews, and waxed jacket reviews. people need to know what's out there, i have some Filson gear, which i love although i fear they are going to price themselves out of the market one day
Gotta say beginning to get fed up with carhartt. Got two new pairs of there stretch type work pant and the sizes are way off. Waists and lengths are different between the two same pair of pants. That being said the made in America double front duck carhartt pants are still the best heavy duty work pant.
I've always wanted a pair of Carhartts, but could never afford them here in the UK as they're more than 100£. Just bought a pair of heavy discounted Dickies fir 26£ Hopefully I won't be disappointed and they will feel solid as my wranglers cowboys cut
I’ve had about six pairs of the firehose pants, and they’re very good. I think I’d rather go with the non-cargo model in the future, maybe their stretch model.
In the UK Dickies have some great value work trousers. Carhartt can be a tad pricey for working. It seems to act as more of their fashion arm. I love both brands. But if I were wearing Carhartt trousers I’d have to make sure I wasn’t doing anything that might get them too dirty 😀
I worked 11 yrs in the sheet metal union. And beat the "Crap" out of my dickies duck material pants and they held up for yrs like 3 till I threw them away. Only thing I didn't like was how heavy they felt. Never wore carhartt put they do look nice. I wish they would show how much they can stretch walking up a ladder or something
I like them both, Carhart products tend to cost a little more than Dickies however I wear Dickies because they more budget friendly. But!? Carhart products are of better quality and design. Caterpillar (Cat) is pretty good too.
I'd probably got with the carharts out of principal, made on the USA, for a relatively affordable price for being made here. Plus I k ow carhart is a name I can trust. Dickeys is too but for a little bit more I can buy pants made in the US

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, if you don't like mine then tough shit.

I'll tell ya, the new version of the Thursday Boots jacket is MUCH better than the first. Not a lifetime jacket, but not bad at all, and they fixed a ton of issues.
Idk if it's just me but I work at target as a cart attendant and bought dickies from my job and noticed a huge difference in quality in the ones at my job compared to walmart which was odd considering some had the same labels and names. But anyways ya I love those $20 dickies since the job isn't no construction worker but I'm always outside and doing the dirty work there plus I go skate on my lunches and suprising a pair could last a solid year plus and save shit tons of money on pants
I like Duluth Trading Companies Fire Hose pants better than either of them. They are just more comfortable and don't bind as bad. That being said when I'm out cutting wood or working on my axes and knives, which I do a lot of. I always wear my Carhartt double fronts. They've saved me from what could have been some pretty serious cuts thanks to the tough materials and the double fronts. I wear my Dickies more in warm weather or when I'm working on vehicles mostly because they are not as hot to wear and it saves my other pants from getting grungy from oil and other fluids. When I'm just goofing off I normally wear my 511 or Blackhawk cargo pants which are really cool and comfortable. All the above brands make first rate gear imo. Carhartt still makes their double fronts in the US which is a big plus. Too bad they import some of their other stuff. It kinda takes away from the Carhartt label imo.

Plus I can get it in my size (I clock in at 160kg and 186cm tall) so finding off the shelf in my size is nigh impossible. I will go Carhartt over anything any day.
What a shining recommendation! Thank you for sharing my friend!
@@CarlMurawski no problems, sir.
You can't go wrong with Carhartt. I still have some older Made in America Duluth Trading stuff, but everything new is Carharrt.
Yeah, it really feels like Duluth has lost some ground. What a shame.
Duluth is way over priced . Won't go back
As a Mexican I can promise you ..I know many people willing to pay more for an American made product ._.
@Axel Briseño Hip Hop actually did wear Carhart, Wu-Tang Clan, Mobb Deep and the tv show NY Undercover.
only carhartts made in the us are the double knees, the rest is made in other countries.
Bricklayer here, I wear Dickies, they fit my body type better and are more maneuverable when working on scaffolding.
Carhartt for life.
I had a pair of those double front carhartt pants and they last for YEARS while I worked for the railroad doing track maintenance.. they never wore out I just got too fat for them and they didn’t fit anymore.
Also, I use the hammer loop all the time when I do renovations at my house, I find it so practical.
I swear by Carhartt B01, I now have two pairs that I alternate. Break in was minimal and they become so comfortable
Excellent choice!
You may be right. I see a ton of Carhartt up here in New England, but much less Dickies.
Wore Carhartt exclusively for years. Recently switched to the Dickies flexfit with rip-roaring. Really like the fit better than the Carhartt.
Very cool! I always thought FR stuff was less comfortable from the Tinedale shirts I’ve worn, but maybe Carhartt has it figured out!
Carl Murawski the pants were good, the shirt was okay.
Have you done a bibs review? The newer model from Carhartt with the zipper across the chest and the stretch sides are controversial.
Such a good comparison video with the details, filming, editing and actually wearing them while doing work 👍🏻
Thank you very much!
Don't think Walmart carries Dickies anymore ☹️
hey dude really enjoy the content! i can watch your videos all day. just finished electrical trade school and i'm really starting to like workwear and leather boots. anyways cheers from ontario canada
It's literally in my will to bury me in my MF carhartt "
I would say that was a fair review. I wear Dickies to work, I'm poor. If I was making Union wages, I would buy Carhartt. A few years ago I splurged on a pair of LL Bean workpants, they were terrible. Tore to bits in no time, what a waste of money.
Union ironworker here, stick to Dickies’s! Carhartt is all hype
I bought 2 pairs of Carhartt pants today everytime I buy some workwear you always have a video for it your the best?!
Hahahaha I’m watching you!!! What did you end up getting man?
Hi Carl could you make a Review about Engelbert Strauss Workwear?
Put them on
Never tried Dickies.
Those Carhartt pants are made in my hometown. Irvine Kentucky.
Very cool!!! Great stuff coming out of that factory!
@@CarlMurawski A goldmine
Don't throw away your broken panes. Use them to make double font patch pouches
Didn't even watch the video and I chose carhartt hands down. Best clothing period
Both not available in South Africa, after this review think I would get one of each to test out. Prefer the idea behind carhartt though
Say the word and I’ll send you a pair!
Carl Murawski much appreciated!! As soon as I can leave SA and visit the states I’ll be on a plane, with a visit planned your side. Will grab a pair then🙌🏻 thanks friend, is much appreciated
@@CarlMurawski Carl saving the world, perfect!!!!
Good review. Thanks.
slightly off topic, but unfortunately Carhartt has permanently discontinued all of their HD canvas Duck shorts. I used to love those indestructible shorts in both 8.5" and 10". Dickie's seem much lower quality. I don't know what to replace them with now.
I worked at VW, foundry area and my Carhartts were my armour
I wasted about 90USD on two pairs of Dickies pants so far and now wear Bonobos pants (am not a worker)
- apparently they weren't designed for thighs bigger than 22 inches even when I sized up to 34 waist
- ungodly discomfort against the skin
-crotch wears out instantly
ive only recently found your channel but I love your reviews. alot of factual information presented, when you present opinion its given as such and not misrepresented as fact, and you seem to be fair and unbiased when youre reviewing the various brands.
I notice in vid carhartt Jean's have darker tan color too.dickies have.fader tan look, color.
Dickies fade its colour faster
I only wear Carhartt products but I am intrigued with Milwaukee heated hoodies
I have never owned any Carhartt but I have had Duluth and they have outlasted my Dickie's by a lot.
Timing is so perfect because I am trying to find some work pants 👌🏼 (wood working)
You’re wood working man?? That’s awesome!!!
Carl Murawski yeah bro. Starting 2 weeks before all this crap hit. Started back up as part time. We were out a full month 😞. Gaining skills slowly 👍🏻
Dickies 874!!! -ironworker from phx az
Never forgave myself for that
Well first off- cześć!
Secondly, how’s the second hand market there? eBay, Grailed, etc.
@@CarlMurawski Cześć :D
Of course You can find them second handed for cheaper, but usualy they are already damaged or in weird sizes.
Red Kap is Classic Workwear also!!!
Like the video. I do like my carhartt pants. You do a good comparison and look at what they both do good and bad.
I think dickies is more west coast and Carhartt is more east coast.
by the way, thank you for all the wool garment reviews, and waxed jacket reviews. people need to know what's out there, i have some Filson gear, which i love although i fear they are going to price themselves out of the market one day
I wear carhartt Jean's and wrangler jeans.i love my carharrtt jeans.and got carhartt shorts too :)
Gotta say beginning to get fed up with carhartt. Got two new pairs of there stretch type work pant and the sizes are way off. Waists and lengths are different between the two same pair of pants. That being said the made in America double front duck carhartt pants are still the best heavy duty work pant.
Dickies 1922 line! That would be a cool review.
Ariat pants fit great and have man size front pockets. Rebar line has been excellent.
I've always wanted a pair of Carhartts, but could never afford them here in the UK as they're more than 100£. Just bought a pair of heavy discounted Dickies fir 26£
Hopefully I won't be disappointed and they will feel solid as my wranglers cowboys cut
All my work pants fail at the right thigh from rubbing on my holster
Well that’s definitely a specific wear point. What are you carrying?
@@CarlMurawski an 18v impact drill on a Occidental pouch.
I used the hammer loop it works great heavy duty for car heart I plan on buying 10 pants
Duluth trading fire hose pants can take a beating! I have worn out plenty carhartt's! Carhartt's ate my favorite!
Also i use a hammer loop when I'm cleaning up site. A hammer is a good arm extension.
DTC might be a better choice than both brands in term of work pants.
Anyone else get excited to see Carl uses Knipex tools? :D
Been trying to find a new pair of Dickies C182’s for a long time now. It seems that Dickies has given up supplying 100% cotton pants to the UK.
Oh man, that’s a shame! Is importing an option?
I like them both, Carhart products tend to cost a little more than Dickies however I wear Dickies because they more budget friendly. But!? Carhart products are of better quality and design. Caterpillar (Cat) is pretty good too.
How good are Wrangler Riggs are they compatible with Dickies & Cartthard ? I seen that Wrangler Riggs are pretty expensive.
I'd probably got with the carharts out of principal, made on the USA, for a relatively affordable price for being made here. Plus I k ow carhart is a name I can trust. Dickeys is too but for a little bit more I can buy pants made in the US
Still going with Carhart out of principal? Even now?
They aren't made in the USA and haven't for a few years now.
@@ShutUpBubi you can walk in to rural king around me any day and buy American made Carhartt carpenter pants. Not all of them are but they're still on the shelfs
I believe in informed consent, and individual freedom so no Carhart for me anymore, used to be a user of their products but not anymore. Dickies is okay, and Wrangler is fine, both suit my line of work which is military aircraft and related equipment maintenance. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, if you don't like mine then tough shit.
I've had pair of Dickies pants didn't hold of up great at bottom of pants legs.
5 years on carhartt doung tree work held up well. Doing sewer work on sharp edges instead of constant abrasion the dickies are mor comfy and hold you better. I would buy a good set of arborwear pants if you are risking your life because they aren’t baggy and you can wrap your letaround any type of tree
My typing thunk is callused. I’m gonna have typos
Damn. My bad guys. My phone screen and whatever made it sound bad. Just buy arborwear if you can afford it. Or buy ridge cut from tractor supply. If you’re going cheap
They both love you! N you don’t have a o feel bad
Well, i wear out the duck overalls in 1 year. The dickies are 3 months, but living in so cal. Dickies are more a summer time wear due to the hot weather. I like the dickies coveralls cut better than carharts. I like carhart better for the durability.
Do you wash them? Dirt embedded in the material will make them wear out prematurely... My wallet allows my to buy Dickies. I'm happy.
How would you compare the sizing? I´ve been wearing Dickies 574 for a while and want to get a pair of Carhartt dungarees.
Should I get the same size?
They have different pattern cut
Have you tested the atlas 46 work pants? They look heavy duty
Dickies baby, once you make Master Electrician, you can afford to buy Carhartt, but for you apprentice and journeyman's out there. focus on the mortgage.
General question, can you tell me an entry level Perfecto styled jacket; something with not garbage leather? Thank you.
I'll tell ya, the new version of the Thursday Boots jacket is MUCH better than the first. Not a lifetime jacket, but not bad at all, and they fixed a ton of issues.
@@CarlMurawski Ha, I thought you would say Thursday Boots! I'm glad they are up-ing the quality.
Dodge and Ben Davis homeboy 🤘🏼
Can you review the new carhartt Detroit jacket vs the J001 jacket?
Those prices americans pay are great. Shame they are almost double in other markets.
I am an electrician and I use cargarrt overalls every day
What about wrangler
Ben Davis wins?
Idk if it's just me but I work at target as a cart attendant and bought dickies from my job and noticed a huge difference in quality in the ones at my job compared to walmart which was odd considering some had the same labels and names. But anyways ya I love those $20 dickies since the job isn't no construction worker but I'm always outside and doing the dirty work there plus I go skate on my lunches and suprising a pair could last a solid year plus and save shit tons of money on pants
Did these pants fit the same? Like did you buy the same size in both?
How does Duluth match up to these two brands?
Well Duluth has changed quite a bit over the years. I’ve had about six pairs of their firehouse pants, but their fits are VERY generous.
Carl Murawski thank you for following up!
I love the carhartt it's a beast and wears great
I like Duluth Trading Companies Fire Hose pants better than either of them.
