After hurricane Ireine blew through, Carhartt showed up with tractor trailers full of clothes (coats, pants, gloves and hats) to pass out for everyone effected. That sold me on Carhartt.
Great product and a great company.

As a female, trying to find a sturdy pair of winter work gloves, it was almost impossible. Trying to even find men's gloves in a small? Forget about it! Enter Duluth Trading Company. Yes, they carry women's work (and I do mean extra sturdy) gloves, and yes, they're warm. They also have a layer of Neoprene. Water stays out, but they "breathe" so your hands don't sweat. They're not cheap, but after one winter of hard work? They are like brand new! Wow! Most gloves that are warm, are usually ripped up in a month! So, yup, I'm sticking with this company!

@@debrussell4921 Now I can't personally attest to how great Duluths women's wear is but I can say (as I am a sales associate) that most of our clothing does run slightly bigger and our plus sizes are made to fit a lot better than the regular sizes. The regular sizes are based off the small size if I remember correctly and just scaled up or down while the plus sizes, they took the time to add fabric where it is needed to help clothing fit just perfectly. I hope this helps you a bit. If you are able, I would highly suggest making it in-store as they will be able to help you a lot.

    My Duluth experience:
I'm a pretty cheap dude when it comes to clothing, I buy most of my daily wears at goodwill or the salvation army second hand store. About a year ago I found a pair of Duluth fire hose pants at a goodwill for about $10, they quickly became my absolute, hands down favorite pants I've ever owned.
After several months of wearing them I wanted another pair so I googled Duluth, wouldn't you know they just opened a new store just a couple months ago 20 miles from me in the rat infested city of Portland Oregon.
I'm a 46-48 waist, the pants I had did not have a size listed anywhere, the only way I knew they were Duluth was their name was on the zipper and button....no patches or any other indication.
So I brought them in as a model to show to tell them "I want an exact pair like these". I approached the cashier with pants in hand and started to tell the associate "I got these from goodwill and........"
He cut me off right after I mentioned goodwill and said "I can't take these, they aren't even mine". As he was blabbering about not being able to refund them I told him "hey, I brought these to buy another pair, I'm not bringing them back, I love them and want another pair".
He then sized them up and told me "these are ancient, from the mid 90's and all we have are these ". Which were the same but better which I went on to buy a pair online cause they didn't have my size. Now I have a brand new pair in addition to my ancient pants. Best damn pants I've ever owned, never dreamed I'd spend $80 on a pair of pants.
To anyone who carrys 2 guns, a knife, flashlight and a bunch of trauma gear I would reccomend these pants to. That was long winded but it was MY experience with Duluth. Best damn pants money can buy!
    Brian

The first week I had them I had to climb up into a soffit that was built out of wood and steel studs. We had to cut into the soffit with a sawzall, which as those of you who have cut a steel 2x4 with a sawzall know what kind of edge it leaves, sharks teeth have nothing on them. Anyway after climbing into the soffit I ended up dragging my leg across the jagged edge and I thought for sure my pants were ruined. Not a scratch... Not only was I impressed but my buddy was too and we proceeded to order more products. The one thing that I feel you needed to mention in your video is that when you first wash the Carhartt duck fabric pants there is always shrinkage, this I felt never let me buy a pair of pants that fit me right, where the firehose pants never shrank and were comfortable right out of the package. I think that is an important detail, don't you? Enjoyed the review but I think you need to look at Duluth again, there are pants without the cargo pockets. If you are like me you have a tendency to carry tools in those pockets, I do know what you are talking about though and the side cargo pockets take a little getting used to, but once you do everything is always within arms reach. The Ultimates are nice because you can attach tool bags to them. Just a thought.

This is an excellent review. I work in a industrial/port atmosphere. I own both Carhartt and Duluth trading shirts, pants, vest, jacket and even wearing a pair of the Duluth slip on work boots right now. I did find that the Duluth Trading products to be slightly better. The Duluth line Alaskan Hardgear products are pretty good as well. Will always like the Carhartt line, but Duluth is a little more quality.

I know, they're trying to modernize their products, and making things "slimmer" by removing a lot of their materials that added that great durability and quality. I wanted to rebuy the same work pants I had from 8 years ago, nothing wrong with them, still in great condition, I just wanted to have a spare for the colder months; so I go onto their site, and they no longer make it, instead, they offer the "newer" model, I go ahead and order it. The older quilted lined work pants have been replaced with flannel lined pants. What use to be a jacket for you legs in the old model is now just regular pants with pajamas bottoms sewn into the lining. They were completely subpar to what they use to make. So I go hunt down every mom and pop store that would carry the brand, hoping that they might still have some for sell, be it no one bought them from them, or whatever. Unfortunately, I didn't find a pair. But that's what I've noticed about them, they're not building quality garments anymore, they're an established brand, and feel like they cheapen their standard because they're so trusted. Now if you want their proven durability, you have to buy their premium line, meaning same old quality, but a bigger price tag.

    • @JJ-lu6mg

Carl Murawski I believe the problem with Carhartt as far as their quality today. I think a lot of the fashion version of there clothline is getting mixed up with their original gear. Carhartt has a lot of different options now from very heavy duty to light weight durability work cloths on top of their fashion line and it just making it harder for most people to know what to buy for work.

Unpopular opinion time! I have Carhartt, Duluth, and Wrangler Riggs. I prefer Wrangler mainly because the price point. I wear them all out at about the same rate and Wrangler does a pretty good job balancing out quality for price. I have noticed that wrangler has stopped making the canvas pants though. I was able to get 10 pairs on sale a few years ago and the rip-stop replacements are not great for being a commercial electrician. The major problem I have with carhartt is, the cargo pockets seem to be the weak point in the construction. I always get holes where the pocket points to the crotch. Duluth sells the Foreman which is firehouse without the cargo pockets. I love them.

Great review! Ive been a sprinkler fitter for 10 years and i must say from buying so many different pants i will always like the duluth flex fire hose. I still have pairs from 2015 that i still wear to this day and the picket layout for me works 👍

I'm also an electrician, and I got my first pair of Duluth pants 2 years ago. Immediately became my favorite, and "go to" pants. My one other co-worker who owns a pair, also swears by them. Carhartt is great, deluth is the best.

I am a 65yo guy that worked in the aviation warehousing and much more. I have worn Duluth and Carhartt both and I love both of them. With that being said, I absolutely love my Duluth socks, they actually hold up to a lot of wear and don't create holes like most socks do. the pants are rugged and comfortable. I won't ramble on but Both are great products, you would need to try each one to decide what you like.

I love Carhartt, but thanks for putting me on Duluth! I forgot about them after seeing their commercials years ago.

I wore Todd Uniform pants for years. They lasted and lasted and when I split a seam in the rear I'd sew it up. Then I gained enough weight that I can't fit into them any more.
Carhartt pants don't last but a year or so and are disappointing to me. I do expect pants to last more than one year. I have purchased four pair of blue jeans and am wearing
through them rather quickly. But they have lasted me more than two years which is a plus. I will next be buying Duluth Trading Co. pants. Thanks for the comparison.

Thanks for the great review. Since the Duluth store opened in St.Charles,MO, I’ve become a Duluth junkie. The trick to save on their products, is to get on their email list. My favorite items are the Duluth flex and dry on the fly pant and shorts. I’m very picky on size and color of any purchase, so it’s nice that I can go to their store and try them on. Almost every item I’ve purchased, has been on sale for 30-40% off! I have a carhart jacket with bibs that is 14 years old that I still wear. It’s strange that the Duluth store that I mentioned is next door to a carhart store that seems largely ignored!?

I have one Carharrt jacket (have had it since 2015). I have one Carharrt baseball hat (been wearing since 2015).
I wore Duluth firehose pants through 3 months of K9 school. They held up beautifully to my 75 pound Malinois scratching on them, leashes and hooks constantly rubbing on them, bleach splattered on them, miles of tracking and odor searching through Virginia wilderness and forests, bite work, countless hours of sitting on a Line-X covered tailgate etc. I have 15 pairs of assorted Duluth Buck Naked, Comfort band, and Armachillo underwear. 4 t shirts, 2 flannels, 1 pair of flanned lined jeans, 2 button down "nice" shirts. Duluth makes good stuff. So does Carharrt.

Loose the Velcro everywhere. Reinforce the belt loops that are the next out from back center. That's where I grab to pull my pants up. Retired phone installer/lineman/system tech.

Unfortunately after being loyal customers for decades we had to cut carhartt loose. Go woke, go broke.
    God bless!
