Why I Love Carhartt

- Chalk it up to association, or working mans pride, but I love Carhartt. The feeling of putting on the armor that will protect me throughout the work day is one that I remember fondly. As an apprentice making $13/hr. I vividly recall the need to stretch a buck on work attire. My co-workers would typically wear the least expensive jeans they could find, coupled with a ratty tee shirt but I had higher ambitions. My grandfather (a retired lineman) always told me to invest in the tools I made a living with, and I consider the clothes I work in to be part of my toolkit. In this video I go through 15 or 20 years worth of Carhartt gear I've worn as an apprentice, journeyman, foreman, and beyond.

Reviews of clothing, boots, and accessories for men, along with style advice and life philosophy. I've been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well, and allows you to buy less and buy better. Хобби
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the fact that Carhartt in spite of getting hyped up by street wear, still has kept their prices extremely affordable for all the hard working men and women out there. That’s what I call staying true to your roots.
Dont know that there extremely affordable. Can get similar clothes for 1/2 the price will they last as long most likely not. But carhartt certainly isn't a low mid priced brand
Literally went out today for some pants and saw these thin ass dickies for seventy forkin dollars and wondered what planet I was on. Needless to say I left with some Carhartt double front pants for 20 bucks less, probably couldve gotten them for even less at Wilco.
You still pay a very low price for quality
SolarPhantom5 lol their clothes are too expensive
Extremely affordable? I went to get a carhartt jacket today and couldn’t find 1 piece of cold weather gear for under $100. Went over to the other section and got a jacket on clearance for $30 works just the same. I’d love if carhartt was affordable
As a Carhartt employee seeing videos like this reminds me why I love my job and the company that I work for. Have a great Labor Day!
We need more colors for the work twill pants like brown & green
Christopher Capo I worked at the Distribution plant in Ky
Christopher Capo thanks. Have a winter jacket, had it for 6 years now, and its still looking like new imo.
I love carhartt
Awesome Carhartt is the best
On a separate note, kudos for making the point about dressing well to any job. This is an almost--forgotten virtue.
Milan Negovan Even just dressing well in general or taking pride in your appearance is fading away.
I absolutely agree, clothing is such a big part of how you present yourself to the world. When people look at you, how you dress and groom yourself will probably be the first thing they base their impression of you off of, and first impressions are really hard to overcome after the fact. I also think when you dress well, you feel more confident, and self-confidence is probably the best quality for anyone who is trying to make an impression
@@onebackzach Something I decided long ago....dressing well and looking put-together is a kind way to show respect to others around you because clothes do have a huge impact on how we see each other whether you admit it or not.. When we are clean and look presentable, we are ready to meet anyone and we can give off a confident and pleasant attitude. Dressing well can show others that we have many other positive qualities. I'm a 33 yo woman and I've been told that I look more like a girl in the fashion or creative industry, but I work long, challenging, hours as a chef in SF, CA. But it's also fun and important to care about your appearance and take time to take care of your body.
@Last American exactly... these guys are more worried about how they look instead of job performance. This guy in the video is showing cloths that never look like they were worn on a actual job site.
In some areas, wearing Carhartt is actually something that’s trending in fashion. Carhartt even has their own streetwear side of the company, Carhartt WIP (work in progress)
I believe it is because of the punk scene. As far back as the late 90's, a few subcultures of punk would wear Carhartts. Namely bike punks (who would constantly be working on their bikes), crust punks who would be train hopping and dumpster diving and sometimes living on the street, etc. Around 2010 or so this began to take root as many punk aesthetics became popularized.
I live in the Pacific Northwest... I went out today & saw some yuppies out on the town in very clean, crisp Carhartt gear and Danner boots. None of them looked like they'd ever swung an axe or a sledge hammer, or done any electrical work aside from hanging Christmas lights ;)
Jeffrey Hunt why are you paying so much attention to what other men are wearing 😂
Dallas Van Winkle carhartt was in the rap scene all through the early 90’s blue and red jackets and all that.
@@yugen carhartt and other work brands like dickies and ben davis were also very big in the hip hop scene in the 90s. It was just a rugged era i guess.
It cracks me up that you say “i hope you enjoyed this video” like you think anyone wouldn’t. Your honest, knowledgeable and calm way of talking about the topics of any one of your videos is always enjoyable. Keep up the great work!
You sir, just made my whole day!
Im a fashion student in London, i dont work in manual labour, however i still wear Carhartt almost every day as its so comfortable, durable, and the carpenter pants are perfect for when im pattern cutting fabric as the pockets hold all of my tools. Very respected brand, and very popular in London!
Alex Manning probably not as fruity as you.
Alex Manning my mans doing something he loves and it’s actually quite cool. You need to grow up and stop being so immature.
Big Body Jacob exactly
Best work, casual wear nidclothes on the planet! Love that Canvas and the triple stitch finish! Melb Aus
As a fellow fashion student I love the carhartt wip line! I just feel like it’s not going to let me down. It’s expensive but you buy cheap, you buy twice.
An experience I had with Carhartt. I went to a concert with my cousin and he was wearing all new expensive stuff from supreme and I was just wearing a nicely worn in Carhartt with the Aztec band around the top and some beat up carhartt jeans, and he couldn't believe that I got compliments and he didn't, people respect Carhartt and it's not all about cheap t-shirts with a rectangle heat-pressed on.
Another great application I didn't even consider! Their stuff looks even better all beat up.
Coser2 everyone thinks fashion is bought when in reality it’s worn
Never seen such a manly guy talk about his clothes with such passion no beef tho Carhartt is great
@Matt some don't need clothes to be noticed
You missed the perfect opportunity to name this video CarlHeart.
😂😂
My favorite part was actually the stories you associated with the pieces.
Ive been a Carhartt guy since the 80s. No better work clothes for my money.
I'll bet you've seen some great stuff in your time! Do you think the quality has changed much over the last 30-40 years?
Unfortunately Carhartt now is a far cry from the 80s. It's all fast fashion with cheap quality made south of the border
Love my Carhartt ! Still got some originals from the 90’s ( could be from the 80’s )???
Just really great quality clothing . Love their winter overalls 🤠
Guess you never heard of dickies
Carl Murawski ... can I answer this ??
I believe back in the 80’s and 90’s , when I wore my Carhartt and say , my Levi’s , I took it all for granted .
I never really knew how awesome they once were until decades later .
Sizing is way off and fabric not as tuff . They even fade differently now .
I say Levi’s because they were always worn by me , and Carhartt jackets .
And as the old song goes “ Don’t know what ya got , til it’s gone “.
Great question .🤠
you dress good, you feel good and you work good
I always knew Carhartt was good but when we just got new uniforms at work, I’m an industrial mechanic, my boss got us all new Carhartt shirts, pants and a super nice winter jacket. I LOVE them. The old uniforms that the rest of the company still wear are shit I’m so glad that my manager of the maintenance department got these new uniforms. 👍🏻
Carhartt is so good. I’m proud it comes from my home state. So many people love it for so many different reasons. There’s really nothing to hate.
As an apprentice electrician, even in Texas summers, Carhartt is recognized as one of the unbeatable options for workwear year round. Have a happy Labor Day and keep up the good work
Same to you sparky! Thanks for watching
I love Carhartts but I am a welder nothing lasts long lol.
Grizzly Bear so true
Check out Patagonia steel forge denim workwear
True
Much respect for the real men out there that work hard out there every day. People don't respect you as much but i do and I am sure there are others as well.
A five star review and video presentation. I too am a Carhartt fan - I love their vests, jackets (old style Detroit and chore coat) and bibs ( I have 3 pair). I've worn Carhartt since I was in high school in the late 60's. Your grandfather was quite correct - invest in the tools of your livelihood and clothes are a part of it, especially if they keep you protected and comfortable. Be Calm and Carry on.
Words from the wise! You've seen them evolve quite a bit then since the 60s, have you noticed a degradation in quality?
@@CarlMurawski No, the Carhartt chore coats, vests, pants, bibs and tee shirts are as good now as when I first started wearing their clothing. I have not ventured to any of their newer clothing introductions. After watching this video, I may consider the newer, lightweight jacket you modeled.
It’s funny how Carhartt was the brand I started off with. I’ve always had a thing for flannels. After buying my first Carhartt flannel I knew that I had bought my first true flannel. Had it not been for Carhartt I probably would’ve never of became aware of Filson. Had it not been for Filson I would’ve never of noticed FreeNote Cloth. What I’m getting at is that Carhartt was that stepping-stone brand that introduced me ( or made me aware ) of mens heritage style clothing. Carhartt is a brand I’ll forever have a soft spot for.
I bought a second hand carhartt jacket. Dyed it brown than I watched your video how to wax a jacket. It became so Nice
Damn that must be a great jacket, I'd love to see it!
Your closing statement and the fit and material absolutely solidified the lure of carhartt for me. When I wear my carhartt jackets and shirts I just feel like an all American blue collar man. But I’m a trucker so I don’t need it for the durability, but I wear it because I love it and what it represents.
I’ve been wearing Carthartt since 2001. That’s when I first became a plumbing apprentice. Since then I’ve also accumulated lots of pieces from carthartt. I live in the south so I don’t need as many jackets but I do have a few. I’ve worn lots of their T-shirt’s and jeans. I’ve bought new jeans only because the color has faded so much that they don’t look presentable. Other than that. The construction is amazing. I’ve always wanted to wear some pieces out as evening wear, but some of the fits are well a little roomy. Almost baggy in some fits. Well I found some Carthartt WIP. I bought some chinos and also a few nice shirts to wear out with the wife. I get so many compliments, and they still have Carthartt reliable construction to them.
Can we take a second to appreciate the perfect throw at 5:48?
This really is the manliest video on RUclips!!! U sir just got a new subscriber.
Great video! Looking lean too!! Thanks for the consistently high quality content!
Hahaha thanks man!
I found a coat in my son's size at a reused boutique and I couldn't resist the nostalgia, my Grandpa wore them on his farm 💗
I LOVE the fact that you shout out and give credit to modern workwear brands like carharrt and Duluth trading co. These brands are synonymous with a man’s man (a guy who isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty) and I for one appreciate them every bit as much as the Calvin Klein’s of the world. Hate when so called style vlogs crap on workwear (cargo pants, etc...) as though wearing it somehow makes you less style savvy so thanks again. Those of us who do real work appreciate it✌🏽
Man I love my Carhartt gear ! This video makes me feel proud of all my Carhartt gear from socks to boxers I’m always wearing Carhartt !!!! Love the pockets in my bibs also !!
I love how you left that sneeze in there. 😂 God bless you! 🤧
Thank you!
Started a much more blue collar job last summer and let me tell you… the money you spend on carhart will always be worth it when you look at the cost of replacing awful Walmart jeans every few months and the cost of discomfort and safety for your knees and legs
I have the T Swing and love it! I walked in heavy rain wearing Quick Duck and remained perfectly dry!
The double front carpenter pants with the knee pad pockets are amazing
It looks like I will have to buy some Carhartt gear for this winter. Thanks for the video Carl
I had my Carhartt jacket for over a year and I didn’t realize I can fold the sleeves like that. Thank you.
Carhartt is a great investment in quality for work wear. Great review. Have a great Labor Day.
Right back at ya! Enjoy and be safe
I don’t even work construction but I wear carhartt almost every day. Amazing stuff!
Used to snowboard in Carhartt bibs. Good tool for nearly anything 🙌🏻
You have a nice carhartt collection! One of my favorite gifts I’ve ever been given is a carhartt jacket that I have worn to death and will keep forever. It’s by far my warmest jacket
My Carhartt Detroit jacket with blanket lining is my pride and joy of my Carhartt collection. Been rockin her for about 7 winters.
I just recently got into Carhartt and I can’t believe I’ve been missing these clothes all these years! Great quality and price!
I love the carharrt vests. Perfect for any weather around 40degrees with a flannel underneath when working and your arms are free.
Ran into your videos today looking for some Carhartt reviews. Really enjoy your videos man. Great shit. I look forward to more and looking into your other videos!
Thanks a lot man!!!
want the jacket for this autumn! thanks for video
Carl this is awesome to be able to see workwear last so long. I got a job as a biomed for a dialysis company. I’m constantly working with my hands in small places. It’s good to see a company that not only cares about keeping men in work but how they products hold up and last so long no matter what you are doing. I’ve caught quite the bug!
That feeling was really my main takeaway from visiting with them in Detroit. Since they're still a private and family owned company, customer satisfaction is paramount to them.
Love the video, I love the Carhartt stuff... One of my Carhartt bibs were stolen from my truck, which I loved! It will be replaced sometime soon. Thanks for sharing the different kind of apparels you have tested.
Carhartt vanishing stuff is a regular story as mosquitos and socks dissappear when you look for them
Thank for watching! I'd be pretty upset if someone took my bibs!
I don’t work in the construction field but man, Carl, you sold me - I feel that must get a Carhartt jacket. Keep up the great videos, man.
Well I’ll tell you- it’s tough to get much more value for the money. The fact that I don’t want to part with these old clothes says something about the brand.
Carhartt: *exists*
Indie guys: allows us to introduce ourselves...
Ethan Rebalkin hahaha funny 😅
It's because of the punk scene. Punks wore them as far back as the 90's for train hopping, working on bikes, dumpster diving, squatting, etc. They prized them because they were durable and functional (and therefore cut down on waste and excess). Many elements of the punk aesthetic have seeped their way into the mainstream, many subcultures have punk roots, especially the indie rock scene. Google "crust punk carhartts". I was involved in the scene when I was much younger and I had several pairs which I still have (way too fat to fit into them today haha)
@@yugen it's also very big in skateboarding culture too
@@tommartin3697 Skateboarding and punk rock were fairly synonymous in the 80's and into the 90's as well. There's definitely a lot of crossover, although when I got into skating in the early-mid 90's, most of the skaters I knew were into grunge. Some gravitated towards hip hop and rap, and others went back to the punk roots of skating.
I love the bibs, started wearing the insulated ones in the winter time and when the weather warmed up I went and got a couple of the non-insulated ones.
I relate to this video so much My Grandpa is a farmer & carpenter he has always worn Carhartt clothing as long as I can remember I remember sitting on his lap at the farm house and distinctly remember that Carhartt logo on his pocket with his glasses and carpenter pencil in it. We even had matching Carhartt bibs and jackets for winter and I grew up to work for him doing construction and to this day at 25 all I wear to work are Carhartt K87 shirts and various Carhartt pants, I've tried lots of brands like Berne,Dickies, Duluth,Filson etc. None compare to the quality I get with Carhartt and being 6'6 their tall sizes fit me great and the full swing series are the only coats I can wear and lift my arms without my jacket going half way up my torso. All in all a great brand with much nostalgia for me.
Love carhart, my dad gave me his old one while we were chopping trees for this neighborhood . I was like 15 and it’s starting to fit better.
Hang on to it! The old ones are coveted and Carhartt will still repair them if you end up breaking a zipper or something.
I love their Wellington style work boots. It took me 2 years to wear out my last pair, and I'm about 2 months into my current pair. I'll deffinitly buy them again.
Truly a man's man, great video!
Excellent content once again, Carl - too good. I find that only the made in the USA Carhartt outerwear is consistently sized and durable. After many frustrating Carhartt purchases over 10 years, I have moved to LL Bean for all of my work wear. They're just as tough to me, more comfortable overall, and a lot more consistent. Funny thing is, like you mentioned, that Carhartt "C" is always tempting me to give them a 7th try again...
I worked in Michigan and Alaska for six years which I purchased several jackets. The coldest it gets in Southern California 45 degrees. Well, I wear shorts all year long and carthart vest. Downey California
Really good video, came across it searching for videos on Carharrt and I wanted to know more about the quality. Thanks
Carhartt & Redwings. Perfect together. 🇺🇸🇺🇸
I love the combination to but I've gone off of Redwings since I found chippewa.
Super Love!!!
Carhartt boots are pretty good!
John Nagy I might pick up a pair of red wings just started work as a surveyor and might need em for construction sites
I love Carhartt. I am recent fan. The quality is always there. Carhartt never change.
My story.. ever since I was a young kid I always saw my grandpa and my uncles who worked in Construction Grading company's and they always I mean always had a carhartt jacket on I was to young to know what brand it was but the logo always stayed on my head now that I am older my company provided me with safety work boots and I asked if they had carhartt ones sure enough they did and when I say those are the most expensive boots I've owned they are so comfortable and great to work in I plan on buying my brother and my father a carhartt jacket this Christmas I also bought a few causal T-shirt and man you pay for what you get best tshirts I have owned better then any high luxury brand Great Video !
My first Carhartt purchase in 1990 were a pair of the double front pants. The extra pockets on the legs enabled me to get rid of two belt loop holsters that held my multitool and pocket knife and I still had room for a small every day carry flashlight and Ive been wearing Carhartt ever since.
I own the Flannel lined jeans from Carhartt, and they work amazing
Carhartt & wrangler rip stop cargos are my go to!
I love Carhartt. Great hard working "work wear" clothing. Keep it up
Actually I was doing some research on a jacket for winter this is an amazing video.
I’ve had Hundreds of Carhartt items through out the years the Red lined hard finish
Brown Black is 5 oz quilt and Black quilt is 7 oz. I’ve never yet had a
Carhartt buttoned down shirt pop a button in 22 years and they have extras sewn
in at sleeves. I give my old shirts to my nephews and they’ve commented that
the buttons don’t pop when they wear them out. The Cowboy style pop button
shirts are like mini versions of Jean Jackets, they are like wine just get
better with age.The Double Knee Dungaree pant Hard finish Blacks get a bit funky green with sun
light damage but once in 7-year purchase, I just love the way they fit.
You probably already know but the opening in the double knee is for knee pads. They're designed with a 1/2 opening so they can accept the pads, but still small enough to prevent the pads from falling back out.
I wear only Carhartt pants now. From jeans to cotton duck double knee, to bibs
Great video man!
Thank you sir!
Great channel greetings from Costa Rica!
Much appreciated, hello from the states!!!
There is something very nostalgic looking at old work clothes lol!
I just wear double knee relaxed fit carhartt and I *LOVE* them. Their just so much more tough!
They're*
Very good video! I always had a interest in carhartt and north face for the utilitarian purpose and I just love how they look. Never had anything of none of those brands cause I dont work with construction (worked for a brief moment) and there is no dealer of carhartt here in Brazil. ANyway, you should make a video about the current relation of carhartt with streetwear!
I have the hooded jacket version of that blue vest. It’s my favorite work coat. Even though the zipper just broke last week. But I’ve been wearing it hard for about 6 years
Hey Carl, love the content! Ever looked at Round House jeans, bibs, etc? Thanks for your reviews.
Nice video,love my Carhartt
Same!
Excellent video
This video was made two years ago. We lived in a different world then. I’m glad I have my old insulated bibs for cold motorcycling riding and a few other vintage pieces. But going forward, I will shop for other options when I need to.
I am digging your videos. I started working with costa farms, merchandising, then moved to Home Depot garden center. I ordered 4 pairs of carharts for ladies and two belts. Two pair are leggings, which are moisture wicking. Two pair denim. I am super impressed. I am not really a legging wearing girl, but these are not transparent and look like jeans. For outside in humidity, I love them. Also, purchased two belts...... Love the quality. I can move and I am not miserable. Also, I think it is so worth the money. ESP with afterpay, for someone getting started
This is great info!! I've heard their womens leggings are incredible and I'm happy to hear it from someone who actually uses them. Don't they have cool little pockets and stuff too? I want to get a pair for my sister for her birthday.
You should try Patagonia's workwear line. I have a few pieces, all are a hemp blend canvas and they are incredibly soft but so far very durable after two years. I go through knees in all my pants yearly, the double knee pants barely look like I have worn them despite some hard days of demolition, fence mending at my facility, and general work around our property. Nothing against the other companies but I like what Patagonia is doing in the workwear sector.
Do you think patagonia work wear is about as good as carhartt?
This is awesome. I am a Carhartt fanatic myself. Recently scored the wool blend quarter zip sweater. It is amazing.
I have 2 so far, a zipper camo jacket and a grey sweatshirt
@@rebbattt7526 nice man. It's the best clothing brand in my opinion. Lifelong gear. I've never burned thru a single piece of their clothing yet.
The hole in the bottom of the double front knee is actually for carhartts kneepads that go right in between the double front and the pants and just stay in there, very comfortable and can be washed
Nice walk though and explanation. I agree a great brand still!
I’d love to know more about their company to answer some of the haters out there.
Carhartt is one of those old fashioned “you get what you paid for” type of brands. I’m sure if you told them you needed you cuffed fixed on that Jacket they’d be more than happy to do so for free or for a small fee
Whaaaaaat I got one of there realtree active jackets for when I go hunting. I would forget that it was cold 😂😂😂
I love Carhartt too!! I feel you I’m a 23 year old girl who skateboards am from europe kinda young for carhartt people would say and yes i wear the workgear because it lasts and saves lives, also heads up for Carhartt streetwear carhartt WIP it’s extremely popular in europe!!! And also the beanies are amazing!!! A18 is the best beanie hat i ever owned!!! Btw my fave carhartt piece is the Duck active jacket and the J133 active jacket!!! I own 6 jackets summer/ winter also the carhartt duck vest!! Got it a few months ago i am super happy with it its warm comfy stylish and practical!! You can do anything in it skate, work, :) i loved your video thank you!!! Much appreciated 🙌
As someone who’s a hobbyist woodworker (currently a student so only a hobby) and also love Streetwear it’s a perfect brand in my opinion, i also love clothes that are sustainable and long lasting which is a plus :)
I love my vintage carhartt. Some day I’ll get the hood to go with it.
I love the wool lining pants,I got a tan pair.make great winter jeans.
wore that stuff and red wings for over 20yrs in the Northeast burning, grinding, connecting, punching rivets, mag drilling , etc, etc , always liked the bib overalls and for real cold temp the black quilted coveralls , easy to wear your harness tool belt rig
I work as a manager for a pretty big siding company in Georgia, and like you said about looking presentable, I get asked all the time if I’m the builder or foreman. I try to look as professional as possible, and back it up with the work and service I provide.
Great video. Try a pair of the Carhartt Rugged Flex Rigby bibs. They’ll change your life!! 💪🏻
Great video!
Interesting video. I would like to see a video with the Mustang.
Bless you !!
I love Carhartt it's honestly all I wear my work clothes are my weekend clothes also great quality very durable and long lasting
Bought my first Carhartt coat in 93’ for my first timber framing job. I was 17 and was new to upstate NY and looking back on it, I’m pretty sure that coat kept the frostbite at bay
Been wearing Carhartt as a mechanic for 15 years. I have two grades of Carhartt. One is for work. Old shirts and pants that can get greasy. I wear new Carhartt on my way to work and during the work week. I like to look good out and about. Most guys will wear greasy Carhartt All day long. I love the single dungarees. The double are for welders. I love the Henley Shirt sleeve shirts. Nice video....
My fire jacket is a Carhartt. Warmest thing of all my other winter jackets!
Love Carhartt for anything. Just so reliable and good for anything
So true! Probably why I have a closet full of "C's"
You look like a jacked Jon Cryer. I love all the carhartt content.
Thanks brother, theres plenty to watch!
My whole closet is CARHARTT the og tan color with my nubuck Timberland Pro Timberland Boots yessssssssss gawd
