I have a hard time "connecting" with many youtube hifi reviewers. Your videos are different, and I appreciate your hard work. You have struck a great balance between giving lots of detail and not repeating yourself or meandering.
There is a reason why they were powered by Antileon Evo monos during Rune's presentation. These are speakers that actually sound best with gear that are more expensive than the speakers because they are much more capable than most similarly sized and priced compact 2 way floorstanders in terms of resolving and dynamic capability. They are inherently musical speakers but not in the usual polite and reserved manner - ie musical not in terms of forgiving tonality but in terms of coherence, good timing and uncompressed dynamic expression. They rather sound somewhat like a crossover less planar speaker but with oomph and intensity. My only complaint is that I cannot play them as loud as I want (ok I am used to much bigger loudspeakers with multiple woofers) as the single woofer's excursion limit is soon reached with bass heavy music. I guess that is what Eos 5 is for. :)
Very good and honest review Terry. I heard these speakers last year during a demo at the Dutch Audio Event here in the Netherlands (with an excellent presentation by Rune Skov with some heavy Gryphon equipment!) and they sounded great. But like your experience, it's all about the overall setup, room, etc. A local dealer should be very supportive if anyone has got these speakers on a wish list. Hifi-greetings!
You do a great job communicating your thoughts. I really enjoyed listening to your review. Looking at the pics of the speakers tucked into the corners and having all that equipment in between it seems impossible you would get decent imaging. But I believe you when you say you do. Thanks for the great information.
Great review as always. These speakers looks really special, and I'm glad to understand that they have the peculiar placement close to the back wall their best way to sound at their best. The materiales and the finishing are always top level, as per The Gryphon way to manufacture products, and the other side of the metal is that all this charattertistcs are quite expensive, or better, need a proper payment in terms of money. I'd love to own them, paired with a Gryphon class A amp and a good source; even if they are the entry level speakers of the line, they culd represent the maximum point in audio quality achievable from many audio enthusiasts.
I used those speakers with Diablo 300 with great results, the high frequency definition is incredible, they disapered completely in the soundstage, great design from Gryphon.
Great review as always, Terry! I spent about two hours with a pair of EOS speakers at the back end of last year, and left thoroughly impressed. Very curious to see how Gryphon apply some of the innovation they've deployed for these speakers to future models further up the pricing chain.
Designed to be close to the wall. Choice of rear or front bass port. Tweeter modes. I like a lot about these speakers and never did think of Gryphon for speakers. Very interesting review.
Thanks for a great review! I would definitely had a look at these a while ago (might check them out if any store has them that's not to far off) when I got new speakers since I really have to compromise the placement of the speakers. But I went with TAD E1-TX and they would be a great comparison since they also work very well placed quite close to the back wall. As a matter of fact I'm a bit bummed out since I love the red colour of the Gryphons (the TAD's have a great finish, but a bit boring black) :)
@@PursuitPerfectSystem maybe gryphon will finally send me the apex...if you have direct contact with them , take a screenshot of this and send it to them. My followers are asking for the apex so i can compare to Boulder 3000 series. I will unfortunately have to make a video soon about this.
Terry - different pricing level but out of the genius that is Peter Comeau - the Heybrook Sextet and the better Sextet II - designed to be against the wall. Still big, spacious and holographic. Been done before.
I don't know how you do it but the music you use in your videos sounds sooo good compared to other channels. Are you going to the Bristol Show next month?
Thanks Richard, it takes ages to keep finding music that suits my video style, yes I will be at Bristol on the Friday as it stands just the one day this year because I have so much on already. Will I see you there?
Nice review of beautiful speakers, but way to rich for me. How about the fink team epos es14 Terry, wonder how they match up against the mission 770. Great shoot out there, cheers.
I think purely for a look and they ho help disguise dust build up, you cant see it as clearrly - its a Gryphon design thing across all their speakers even the giant ones
greetings from Croatia! I've heard those speakers and they sound great, but they're not worth that much to me...try to compare them with for example audio note an-e or larsen 9 series ... they cost less and the sound is fantastic ... and they go close to the back wall
Hi Matthieu, sorry I stopped them last year as the time it was taking me to make them is immense and the RUclips blocks them sometimes so all my time is wasted, so I decided to cut my loses with them and leave them to other channels that have more time than me,
I'm a bit confused how a manufacturer can make a speaker that has the option of a front and back port. How can they expect the audiophile to get a consistent result? The Gryphon should have executed the speaker design with either the port at the front or the back. Giving the consumer porting options means they're compromising the end sound; for 22K pounds, I wouldn't expect to have to make compromises. How would something like the PMC Fact 12 compare to the EOS2? The Fact 12 is front ported and would be ideal for speaker placement close to the front wall.
The port being at the front or the back doesnt effect the speaker it effects how the speaker interacts with the room and as the speaker designer cant predict the room the speaker is going in allowing for both is optimal. Lots of Wilson speakers offer this too
Gryphon gear is simple gorgeous, however Gryphon sound fantastic with Gryphon and it never really delivers the same impact with other amplifiers. I've heard their very high end and expensive Trident II speakers with my favourite Pass Labs XS300 and they simply didn't perform as well as with Gryphon amplification, I would however say that the Pass Labs XS 300 generally is the best class A mono bloc, bar none. Rather like Wilson Audio loving big Krell, Mark Levinson, Dan Agostini etc... Gryphon loves Gryphon. I'm not sure that anyone is going to shell out £22K and drive them with anything other than Gryphon?
What are actually these strings in front of the speakers for?? Seen it before with Sonus Faber‘s. No other manufacturer uses them so they shouldn’t be crucial for good sound.
Did you not try moving the far left and far right equipment racks out of the way and moving the speakers closer together so as to be away from the potted plants and have more room to breathe? I would probably get rid of the potted plants as well and just run with the centre equipment rack.
As heard at that premier event.. Very capable.. Weight, ease of delivery.. Ability to scale for sure... All from a very domestically acceptable sized enclosure and not a small room! .. Very enjoyable... as they should have been within context of Commander/Antileon amplification, pink faun streamer...looks may divide opinion.. But fit and finish seemed worthy of the pricepoint...
Maybe in a different room they would be ok away from the wall but in my room they sounded better closer to the wall. They designed with close to the wall placement in mind so I didnt spend too much time with them placed out into the room
There are plenty of good to great sounding speakers from history that sound their best close to or against walls or corners. Makes sense to me when speakers co-operate with the box (the room) they are placed in. Gryphon Audio EOS 2's aren't for me, as slimline, low efficiency, ported speakers are not my cup of tea. With them doubly being not for me when they cost £22,500.
All the optical gimmicks can't hide that this is another example of endlessly ongoing varitions of the conventional passive 2-way design. Boring and presumably for a ridicolous price.
It wasn't just that, its the tonal character of that Gryphon system is very stand out in the vocal region and for vocals delivery but yeah my system is not as good :)
I dont know exactly but pretty sure you have to take into account the sound wave that fires backwards from them in terms of where you place them in the room.
£22k 🤣 I absolutely love music and audio gear and can afford to buy expensive stuff. But NO speaker on the planet is worth 22k, I don't care how good it sounds
I cannot afford a single thing that you review. I keep watching because I absolutely love your presentation. Master reviewer. Keep up the great work!
Thanks very much, its been a lot of very expensive stuff lately but its not always - thanks again

The question is do they also sound great with another amplifier.
Yes, after seeing the full review, great work by the way.

Again a great review of theses Griphon speakers with an excellent good value for money. !!
You have what you have pay for !!
It would be absolutely fantastic if we didn’t have to pull our speakers 4ft into the room. Great review Terry, very interesting.
cross over looks a work of art
Great looks, option of two port locations sounds useful. Would love to demo them some day.

As allways, great video Terry. They just make great products. You should try and review Vitus Audio products. It's in the same league as Gryphon!

The cord 'covers' remind me of the SF design
Wonderful terry well done! May I ask why you didn’t post measurements of these speakers? Cheers!
This is just a request can you please review the Acoustic Energy AE 520 I would like to see how it compares to other speakers at its price point thank
If these speakers were a super car they'd be the Zenvo TSR-S !! Thanks Terry
What the heck is that?!
They look like Old Ruarks. I cant help thinking it all goes round in circles. Ps I still have my Ruarks

was wondering if you gotten a design/feature rationale for the string curtain in front of the drivers?

Try and get a demo of the steinway lyngdorf s15 speaker system. Wall mounted and by all accounts extraordinarily good.
Or even the model o.
I would love to hear your review on the McIntosh ma9500 to see if it’s clear and hifi or is it rolled off and autoformer vailed
Review coming soon, not veiled but also still a mc
will the leema tucana mk2 anniversary edition be good enough to drive the Eos 2 ?
can you take the guitar string facia off of them? They look so gaudy with that on

I agree, not going to sound the same without all that Gryphon amplification driving them. Then again, i guess every speaker system loves Gryphon amps!
More Watts to you, man! 👍
Very pretty but I think the elefant in the room is.... why are they a two way speaker with only two drivers....
Looks like the old Thiel design .of course w different driver & material .Just my cent

All Gryphon speakers have them its a visual design thing
@@PursuitPerfectSystem thanks… Not so beautiful in my eyes though.

Had to use the gear for the review so couldn't take it away, however if this was a purchase I would consider making changes of course.
Have to wonder: there is only so much you can do with a passive two way floorstander. Only measurable difference is the absurd price tag.
Forget what we think we know....ok, but I still know I can't afford it. lol
hahaha great comment

Do they not sound good pulled away from the wall?

Showing my ignorance, why the strings?
Visual design cue I think, but I have noticed it helps disguise dust that gets on the baffle etc, its still there but you cant really see it.
You gonna have a hard time replicating a megabucks class A amp sound, especially one from the same manufacturer as the megabucks speakers.
yes John mate totally, but its nice to have the reference point of it to go at :)
Looks like a SB woofer where they have glued a ring on for a reason. Ha for the reason I thougth
These look like Sonus Fabers

modern vs vintage
Klipschorns are a completely different concept of course, come to mind as a speaker that’s designed to be placed in a corner.
😊😊😊
To my taste the music interludes are too loud.
noted thanks
Gun to the head, these or the blade 2 in a medium size room?
20k for speakers and 60k for the rest is too much
