    I have a similar German Physiks Carbon MK IV for more than 20 years. I was not able to change speakers despite every other component being changed. After some 20 years, one of the DDD driver failed, and it was replaced and giving glorious sound again. I went round auditioning many high end speakers after the DDD driver failed, but ended up having it replaced and still owning it. Great service from Robert Kelly, their agent in USA too, even though I am from Singapore!

    Hi Terry! Great review. Being an old time audiophile I actually owned a couple of pair of Ohm F speakers at different times in the mid to late 1970s. Great to see the Walsh driver upgraded to modern material and design tech. We really liked the omni sound the Fs produced. For a while we put them on either side of a couch and sat between them for a headphone effect. Keep up the good work! Dallas

    I've been in awe of German Physiks speakers since you featured them in a hifi expo vid. The technical design and engineering gone into these must be immense. Who wouldn't want a Helmholtz resonator in their living room!

    As omnidirectionals interact with the room more, it's always good to place them not too close to the walls, and the room condition is very important.

  • @Stelios.Posantzis

    19:10 This has to be primarily because of the full range driver (i.e. no crossover). Also the carbon fibre helps in giving more rigidity (perhaps? this is the first speaker I hear of featuring a carbon fibre cone driver so I'm not sure what the intention of using this material is here exactly) so maybe it is not working as a bending wave transducer after all (although I find that really hard to believe - I mean 24kHz in piston mode? I'll need some proof of that using laser scans and the like).
    (I mean no crossover between midrange and tweeter since this is not needed here. Obviously they have a crossover between the full range and the woofer).

  • @Stelios.Posantzis
    @Stelios.Posantzis 5 месяцев назад

    11:05 I can believe that. There simply cannot be a full range driver that behaves like a piston on these high frequencies. Additionally, the energy from a dome tweeter is much more focused in a narrow beam whereas omnis just have to radiate 360 degrees so I'd imagine their job is even harder when going up in frequency.

I've never got a chance to listen to these, but I've listened to other Omni designs. Duevel were great! But MBL were amazing, easily top 5 best speakers I've listened to ever! Best part is there's no sweet spot to sit and listen to music, sound is nicely dispersed over the entire room!
    Thanks again for taking us in this journey with you!

    I've never listened to German Phyiks omnis although I do remember back in the day when they first came out seeing them in a hifi show. I also do remember listening to the Duevel omnis in that show and thinking it was the only speaker that grabbed my attention (and it did again in subsequent shows) although this doesn't say much in the cramped and noisy show conditions - or maybe it does because of that? The Duevels of course were quite different designs being three-way speakers and also featuring a short horn for both the midrange and the tweeter (although, in the case of the midrange, I'm not sure it would count as a horn so much as a wave guide/sound director). Nevertheless, the basic principle of operation is the same in both speakers and that is what I expect defines the sound in a very large extent (ok execution matters greatly too and the Duevels were in a different price category).

      about the expansion of sound regarding the high´s the top shape is there in a small conical shape to expand the sound in any direction, like some brands that had speakers that you could change the tweeter or tweeters in diferent directions on top to make them expand in the direction one wanted having a top grill to protect them, and mids are always included in the woofer in two ways speakers, and price wise they have more simple models that are cheaper than more complex systems in the same series of speakers from a brand, recentelly i have seen none as my knowledge about this type of speakers is till the end of the 80´s, don´t know if i could help but i think you were refering to this, and horns that i know of are always for high´s but i might be wrong as most of my speakers are from the 70´s and in other decades till today i bought only a pair or two for decade, the older speakers when restored not improved they do become better, i´ve seen a lot of components improved but in reality the quality was destroid they no longer sound as we expected to, some think that this electronic part was better than the old one but in reality the only change was in reducing costs, and advertised as an improvement to old electronic parts, it´s not a rule but what is being done most of the times, and most of the younger tecnics or curious don´t even have a clue how a old speaker sound, as they think modern is better but it never was, for some reason studio monitors that are in use to day most of them were released in early 80´s and 70´s and really upgraded as it is possible as the evolution made it poosble, not just by thinking newer is better

    Hi Terry, Please excuse my direct approach but I have designed an excellent vinyl cleaning brush with compelling public feedback, and we would like to get the SuperCleaner out to your subscribers by way of a review or shootout. I know you are committed to the ultrasonic method of cleaning but the Hart SuperCleaner is the ideal tool for keeping records clean and static-free, quickly and easily between plays lowering the usage of an ultrasonic machine and its products as well as your time and effort. It makes the vinyl replay process much more enjoyable and the pursuit of perfect tracking and revealing the true waveform more accessible. Can we send you a sample, please?

      Regarding your question about vocalists, if they a in the centre in the mix, that is where the Borderlands, or any other German Physiks loudspeaker, will place them.
