Back in the day I worked the remand wing of our correctional facility Working many Christmas shifts....and Christmas in jail sucks for everyone It's loud and smelly and cold and miserable...families don't visit Or worse....they do A very tense time...at the best of times Christmas sets you up for disappointment "Anticipation breeds frustration" I used to bring in a couple of boxes of Mandarin Oranges (MY box...so no surprises in side) and my VHS tape of this film Tended to mellow out the assholes on both sides of the bars...Introduce a bit of humanity We can all get through this together Or we can all make each others lives far more difficult And maybe someone gets hurt I still have that tape somewhere
This is one of my all-time favorite movies... a Christmas tradition of mine is that I always watch this with one of my sons (he loved it the first time he saw it). I also watch it again when I wrap Christmas presents... Why wasn't this a well reviewed movie during it's time?
He knows already. Probably the best scene in a wonderful movie. How do you get so many wonderful actors in a comedy ? Sort of a Christmas movie, but it's great for any time of the year.
The acting is unparalleled. Such a superb balance and so understated. Ustinov was a genius but Bogart was a revelation and Aldo Ray's character was so well constructed and acted.
everybody lives the snake and his name - that shit end of the kosher meal will make people do thinks -like to forgetting to tell them something -like them forgetting to cut it down the middle and not just feed everybody shit and steeling from them
This clip and the "trial" the boys hold right before it are classic and make the movie! This is my favorite Christmas movie of all time.

This scene! THIS SCENE!! This movie and especially This scene mastered the "slow burn" as comedic delivery! 🤣
Bogie didn't make enough comedies! He a natural!
There was a chemistry among those three unmatched in any other dark comedy of the period, and the comedic timing was perfect!
One of the best Christmas movies ever 🤣

We never see Adolph, but since he's a little snake "with pretty colours, like a woman's bracelet", my guess is that he's a Coral Snake.
