My thoughts are with those of you affected by the devastating LA fires. I hope everyone who has had to evacuate is as safe- and as well- as is possible right now. I also hope anyone who has an affected loved one has at least been able to be in touch with them.
I think the issue here is that when she samples, she uses very well known songs and doesn't change much of them. I think if she used samples intentionally (to fit a song theme, if the song represents something historical like Beyoncé does, etc.) and more subtly, I think it would be better received. I do think that she should step away from samples for a couple of years, come out with many non-sampled songs, then use samples if she wants. I will say, she gets more hate then she deserves. Men do a lot worse
most often the songs that blow up r so boring but i think her 2nd album does what you said ! her usage of samples were in line w the story she was tryna tell. granted some songs arent as good but its still a good body of work
Alot of her album tracks on Diamonds & Dancefloors are very good, I feel like most of the people criticizing her just havent actually listened to her albums, only the singles.
She has potential to really be a main pop girl given that she has catchy pop songs, the problem tho is she has to make changes with the trajectory of her career and she lacks personality that sticks
Her album is being held back u can tell because she had budget and a lot of promo more than normal people and she is actually hella talented and can do whistle notes
If lady gaga were to have a tribute album I would only pick Ava max, Bree runway, Rina sawayama, Britney Spears, Kylie minogue, Madonna, Addison Rae, grimes, charli xcx, Marina, Alice chater, Gwen stefani and Katy Perry since she’s a Gaga wannabe and clearly is obsessed with her and can’t let go of 2010
I can’t lie, she reminds me of a fictional pop star from a tv show or movie brought to life. There isn’t anything specific that makes me feel this way though. Ally Maine, Ashley O and Ava Max could definitely go on a joint tour together
I really agree with the point bought up at 17:41, I like Ava. I don’t usually listen to her but she’s a solid B tier pop girl for me who makes fun music HOWEVER I understand not everyone vibes with her & that’s fine! But people are just so constantly rude to her (& Meghan Trainor too for that matter) despite how she’s relatively (afaik) unproblematic, she seems like a kind genuine person but is dogged on for doing something almost every current artist does.
LOVED Ava Max in 2020-2021. She reminds me of artists like Kylie Minogue & Tove Lo who don’t always have super huge main audiences in America but can hop on a dance beat & SLAY
please dont disrespect kylie by comparing her to kylie. but i understand the point you're trying to make, i was honestly a bit shook to learn that Tove Lo wasn't actually that popular in the US when I looked more into the fandom, cause we've always heard her music consistently outside of the us like in Asia and Europe.
I want an essay on selena gomez Most people find her polarizing, bringing the question "how is she still so famous and relevant despite publicly showing the least effort in music?"
I think she's in a television show now, but something about women owning cosmetic lines and becoming billionaires erks me. It must be QUITE easy to do bc so many celebrities have lines.
She has a special place in my pop heart. "Heaven and Hell" is such a wel produced album, but her music lacks idenity. However, 'Naked', 'Who's Laughing Now?', and 'Sweet But Psycho' truly show her sense of humor and lyrical abilities. Her second album is almost anonymous but I still vibe to it.
I feel like the judgement against Ava and her samples is unfair, but is also a byproduct of her not really having a solid brand or image outside of her music. I can’t recall ever seeing Ava on the cover of a bunch of magazines, on red carpets, in headlines, or doing big interviews. She’s more of an artist who drops fun dance pop songs and that’s it. I don’t know anything really about her, as opposed to someone like Dua Lipa who releases similar dance pop songs but is more present in the general culture and music conversations. I think people not generally knowing who she is or what she stands for contributes to the willingness to write her off as a one-trick sample pony, even if it’s not the truth.
i’m mentally preparing myself before I watch this because this is my favorite artist everrr. I hope her talent is recognized because I see her vocals as some of the best in the game.
Art is inherently inspired and "unoriginal." As an artist myself, every person is inspired by someone else and every piece of art you make holds a piece of who you were inspired by. If Ava was inspired and made a version of it herself, it's still art. In addition, the more you look into hits we view as "classic" and "never done before" also feature samples and inspiration from other songs. Art is inherently a communal experience, people communicate with it in different ways and as long as she's crediting and paying her dues to the original; I see nothing wrong with her career.
I think Ava has some quality to great songs like Torn, My Head & My Heart, Million Dollar Baby and Salt, but idk i've never got the full appeal of her. Everything that she does feels...sorta plastic. Also she relies a LOT on sampling which has give her sorta of a cheap label from what i've saw And regarding the whole art convo: technically all music is art, but what people consider art is mostly subjective to the taste of the person
I always thought it is weird how people say they want fun pop and feel good pop but hate her. Cus I feel like her music is so fun vibes. I love the song motto that she’s featured on. But I understand finding her lyrics cheesy. But I think a lotttttt of pop is cheesy lyrics.
Her and her discography are just so derivative. It's just so obvious that it was created in a boardroom with minimal passion. It's just kind of phoning it in mass produced, churning out these brain rot songs that ruin a good sample. It's also just so 2010s. Her sound is just so soulless, like I just get the vibes that all those 2016 girl boss feminism lyrics were written by skeezy 40 year old men. Make sense it's popular in europe as it reminds me of eurovision. Her whole career and discography is just so forgettable.
damn you were not holding back😬but I've to agree. Feels very manufactured. It's giving very much "industry plant"😅 but she has some bangers tho and the Europeans are eating it up so whatever
I firmly and have always believed that Ava doesn’t have much of a say in what she makes. She has shown to be very creative on her own. Collaborators have said she’s really good at coming up with melodies. The industry is weird she’s doing her best with what she’s given.
I think one of the main issues with Ava's music and its perception is that American listeners specifically have, in my opinion, become de-sensetized to the "manufactured" pop-star archetype and these kinds of pop-stars therefore have become less relatable and interesting. If you look at the current landscape and people running it, like Taylor, Charlie with her Brat, Billie, Chappell etc - all of them, unlike Ava, make the kind of pop-music which leaves an impression that there's something deeply personal in it, whether it's dressed up as electro clash or acoustic guitar ballads. In the case of Ava, her music and her branding is perfect, sterilized, somewhat generic pop, and compared to the aforementioned artists, there is barely any actual personality visible. You can swap Ava with literally any other female singer and it wouldn't make a difference at all in her songs. This might've worked well back in 2010, but in the era of Taylor swift getting one number one after another by writing songs that _appear_ very specific and personal it just doesn't cut it. And again, you can do generic, perfect synth pop too, but in the current climate people expect you to have something a bit more postmodernist and nuanced to say about it, something meta, something camp, not just earnestly sing the least specific lyrics one can come up with.
The mention of labels buying rights to discographies and then them having writing camps that encourage interpolation is so interesting. That makes so much more sense since the labels would be getting money and see it as "less risk" since people already liked the songs. I do think 21% is quite a bit, although I don't necessarily see it as a problem. But also I may not recognize when some artists use lesser known interpolations or interpolations from genres I'm not familiar with. And it is becoming harder to make a ""unique"" song because of just how many songs there are and there's only so many melodies, especially in pop. Not a fan per se but I do like some of Ava's songs (like Salt, My Head & My Heart, My Way) but I agree with some comments that her artistic identity is not strong so maybe that's why people pick on the samples thing so much?
Ultimately as long as she’s getting permission and giving proper credit to the original songwriters, she’s doing nothing wrong. Just because it’s boring doesn’t mean it’s not art. I really don’t care for her music and find it really repetitive and grating, kind of like a kids bop version of much more interesting songs. I’m always a bit surprised by her popularity but if people find things in her music they connect with, good for them!
i feel like she doesn't have a brand. charlie has that sleazy brat brand, sabrina is a flirty retro girl, and... ava is.... well, idk, and i feel like if she had a stronger brand she would be more popular.
What’s interesting is that you have people named top 5 greatest artist of the 21st century, like Rihanna, who completely recreates songs she buys, with 0 artistic integrity, but nobody cares? You can listen to the demos of things like Diamonds and S&M, where Rihanna literally copies even vocal afflictions, tone, and every single thing from the demo. I’m sure other artists do this, i suspect people like Britney Spears, as well. I was Navy for 15 years, so i know mostly about Rihanna. So, i find it interesting how people pick and choose what’s ‘art’ and what isn’t, depending on how much they like the singer.
About the "some songs are unable to be sampled properly because the original is so iconic": I think it is very much possible but western sounds or formulas for songs don't really lend themselves to it. There's a song called "ABCD" by Nayeon (a member of the kpop girl group "Twice") that samples "crazy in love" by Beyoncé and does it in a really tasteful manner in my opinion. With other sections being original enough to where the (I believe) post chorus, for which "crazy in love" is sampled, doesn't make the song sound uninspired. I recommend people who haven't listened to it check it out.
I think she has very good songs like "One of us", "Salt", "Sweet but Psycho", "Belladonna", "Anyone but you", ... Even the one who contains some samples are good for some of them. I think she does good dance-pop bc even if it can seem even less personal than what Dua Lipa does, it's still dancy pop with some dreamy vibes and she got a great voice.
Ava Max is like the color beige to me, like all her singles are the literal most basic singles that anyone can make and her voice doesn't stand out either. Which is why I don't listen to her albums and have never been interested in doing so. But I'm glad some people enjoy her art.
She's very successful with the dance-pop sound so Idk if her label will allow this...they even push ariana grande into pop when she has so many rnb songs and clearly loves rnb (with a hint of pop)
Another reason why I believe she doesn’t have much input in the music she makes. Her label most likely tells her to sound a certain way. She needs to show her most authentic self
I'm not really a fan of the latest trend of sampling well known songs, so I'm not the biggest fan of most of Ava's biggest hits. But I do think some people are way too harsh on her and she does have some bops imo. As said, she's more popular in Europe which is where I live so I enjoy her sound. I've seen the complaint that her music sounds very 2010s, but honestly that's why I like a lot of her songs!
15:39 I think more often than not she does a good job with reworking the original material. Million Dollar Baby is a fkn banger and Born To The Night is god damn amaaaziiinggg! I’m biased though, as it interpolates a German classic, haha! Whatever is probably my least favorite example. It sounds lazy and uninspired, imo. Also don’t care for Not Your Barbie Girl.
Born to the night is exactly what a sample done right is. I feel as the years go by, her not breaking into mainstream the label or team gives her Less and less input in what she puts out.
I don't agree with the hate she gets. The girl can actually sing, which is more than can be said for most girls today. While she has always given me Dollar Store Lady Gaga; Dollar Store Lady Gaga is still better than 95% of current pop. Diamonds and Dance Floors is also a very solid album.
I think Ava started off her mainstream career without heavy samples. Sweet But Psycho was obviously her breakthrough hit. But in 2019, we also got Torn, So Am I, and Freaking Me Out as singles. None of which were accredited as having samples/interpolations (to the extent of my knowledge). But none of them made it anywhere near SBP’s popularity. Then 2020 came in and we got Kings & Queens and it was a massive success. Since then, Ava’s shown more of a balance between songs that sound wholly original and ones that do have notable samples/interpolations. And she’s right, there are plenty of artists that do the same thing, even having way more than Ava does. We need to remember that pop music is susceptible to being formulaic. It’s meant to be enjoyable and make profit. So, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Songs that were massive hits are inevitably going to inspire future hits. If anything’s it’s a testament to their impact. Overall, Ava doesn’t get enough credit for the originality found in her discography. She’s had some hits that didn’t require influences from other artists. But hey, she’s still finding success and people love her music (myself included) and I think that’s what matters in the end!
I like Ava Max. I don’t follow her actively, I usually stumble upon them, but for me, I enjoy her because she is reliable dance pop. Far from mind blowing, but decent.
I do like ava maxs music diamonds and dancefloors is a good album That said interpolations seem like a decent gimmick but don't really hold up music well because it's like an unimaginative cover and i can see her getting hate for doing it when most of the ones she's done are singles and because of the interpolation they get notoriety interpolations vs. Samples seems like a movie remake where they expect to have fans of the old and new but end up just sounding like a "fixed" modern take on the old song (i.e. i don't need a prince to save me because that story is old) samples are fine because it doesn't usually dominate the song and most you cannot tell unless you're into music
There is a way to do it more creatively. Fd signifier said diddy originated "lazy sampling". Prior to that hip hop artist used sampling but really made something new out of it. I remember being excited about kim petras and nicky but it was such a disapointment, like really nothing new. Even shakira did it right with the sample in hips dont lie, beyonce with pure honey and madonna with hung up. Is not the same to me.
I gotta say, 2020 was the year i got introduced to a lot of new/different artists, my 2 standouts from that year were SAWAYAMA and Heaven & Hell, and I became a fan of both Rina Sawayama (who I would love for you to cover) and Ava Max, Rina gave me that "Different and weird" Gaga-esc kinda vibe that many other mainstream artists werent giving and Ava was giving the more basic fun dance pop that I personally needed at the time. They've both released their sophomore albums (Hold the Girl and Diamonds and Dancefloors) and I loved both, with D&D becoming one of my fave albums of this decade. The reason I mention both of these artists is because I feel they should have become more popular and mainstream. However, both end up feeling underappreciated (specially Rina but that's another convo). Even if Ava's music plays on the radio or in the T.J.Maxx it still feels like people have casted her out of being more mainstream wether due to her music feeling too "basic" or too many interpolations, and i feel she'll be stuck like this, unless she releases her Magnum Opus and it breaks through people's perception of her.
*If done well enough, though, AND if you have a strong enough discography that people are already familiar with, people do not care at all of interpolations or sampling - such as Doja's "Kiss me More" or Ariana's "7 Rings." I'd be interested in whole deep dive as to why Ava never made it huge. To me, I truly think it is because she simply comes off as an entirely constructed persona of a 2010s popstar - almost like a fake popstar that you'd see as a character in a movie or TV show. In an era of Chappels, Sabrinas, and Charlies, you really need a unique persona and style for people to attach to you and your art. Everything about her look, outfits, and music videos are just so cookie-cutter 2010s pop start. She needs to be out here doing interviews and every performance she can find, with unique outfits, designs, and choreography, to really establish a style. She is clearly talented!*
Almost all art is derivative. People create based on their emotions and things they know, often using references to help drive the piece to connect with people. That’s not the issue with Ava. For me, it’s that her songs don’t take the interpolation far enough away from its original context to be a standalone piece - they instead come off feeling like a Disney live action remake. There are some minor, sometimes unnecessary, changes to the source material that leads Disney to believe they can continue cashing in on old IP. it isn’t that she samples too often, it’s that her biggest songs are the result of interpolation. It almost comes off as a paint by numbers formula.
15:01 is a huge revelation to me, like I know she has hits without interpolations, e.g., "The Motto", but the fact it's not a majority of her songs is going to blow many people's minds considering Ava's reputation. Also... Wait, "The Motto" and "Forever Young" aren't singles? Wut?
I think at the end of the day i get such a strong feeling that she doesn't have much creative control over her career, which could be why her songs feel so corporate and curated. If you listen to some of her interviews as well, you kinda get the feeling that she was given like an outline or certain words she was required to say, i think her zach sang interview was the one that stuck out to me the most in that regard. I love her and i think she has so much potential, i just think it might be more of a label/management problem
I kinda stopped listening to her music in early 2023 but I find her a very interesting artist sure some samples she done didn't land well for me but her music is generally good look at her debut album heaven and hell it's a banger the title track is so good naked is also a very disco track that I don't see people talk about it like she has good songs too and I love so am I it's so good but whatever she done leaking an artist's work is not cool even if they feel so unoriginal to u it's just stealing
I'm a big fan of Ava Max, I think she's an awesome vocalist and very underrated. It's obvious that she's not a singer-songwriter, so I don't see the problem in her samples, bc the majority of her songs with interpolations are very good, and it's bc of her contribution (Whatever and My Oh My are exceptions, really bad songs). The point about labels buying different artists' catalogues so that they could use their songs for interpolations is very interesting, maybe that's why there are many songs that remind different songs but don't have official samples (I'm thinking about Memories by Maroon 5, which is very strongly inspired by Bob Marley). I really don't see the problem in sampling, bc it depends on the ideas that artists bring to already existing songs, that's why My Head & My Heart and Kings & Queens are good, but Whatever or I'm Good are lazy and bad
diamonds and dance floors was a really solid fun pop album that many people over looked, i’ve been listening to it constantly since release cause it’s just fun simple pop music
Respectfully I hear more of Jade's Don't Walk Away 1992 (ruclips.net/video/AQr6BH63xDQ/видео.html) in Million Dollar Baby (see 0:55-1:14). Specifically, when Ava sing's the phrase "she's a million dollar baby," it has the same melodic line as Jade's "will you be there for me?" I wouldn't be surprised if Can't Fight the Moonlight 2000 or Million Dollar Baby is an interpolation of Jade without credit. Interpolations and samples are tricky. Technically Jade samples and credits Kool and the Gang and Stevie Wonder, just in the instrumentation. But a lot of stuff gets interpolated (especially RnB melodic lines) without credit or attribution into popular music.
Enhypen fans are rabid and gross, I never even knew about enhypen until Ava max collabed with them. The way these fans went out of their way to be misogynistic and rude towards her career is plain gross.
@@sockjin it was all over twitter/x. They were dragging her and being rude about her career as if she isn’t popular in many European countries due to her edm esque sound. What I find more disturbing is that most of them being misogynistic were females, just like Ava max smh.
Ava is like a leader of songs who are made without passion and are made only to be played on radio in Europe. She just merges into millions of no-name artists and it's hard to say anything special about her. Half of songs I knew from her were samples and other half always sounded like something I heard before, but just worse and more generic.
@@williamomghiihello comparing the mytp music video and my oh my you’ll notice the different. They are losing trust in her which is obviously gonna affect the budget. Spot a fake hasn’t even gotten a music video
Loved her debut album and her sophomore album was good, but it does all sound retro, like she's doing a concept album for "Jem and the Holograms"--not to mention the fact that a lot of it sounds similar.
I liked Sweet but Psycho but then lost interest in Ava Max very quickly because of the lack of originality. The only original thing she did was that I'm not like other girls' haircut. I remember she said she wanted to bring back pop music, pop music never left. She was acting like she was doing something new. Felt like an industry plant too me as those samples would of been expensive.
When I listen to music I usually listen to what sounds good to me, no matter the genre, or if it has a sample. However, I must say, I always mix up Ava Max and Bebe Rexha lmao
I briefly dated someone who was a big ava max fan, like listened to her religiously and I'm sure probably ran stan accounts for her on his free time. I got the impression that her fans, or at least the non delusional ones, do accept her as a sample queen. she has more songs that aren't samples/interpolled but her most popular that i overheard that was fun, but the ones that really get attention are mainly the samples.
I don't consider myself a maxipad or a casual listener even but I really enjoyed Diamonds & Dancefloors a lot & think it showcased her potential. The dark 80s "femme fatal action girl"-esq vibe fits her so well & would've been perfect for the halloween season if the release wasn't pushed back (also Dancing's Done is her best song idc what anyone says). To me, she's one of those artists that has a lot of potential but isn't working with the right people.
Ava has had a very rough year on 2024 because of her management! She signed with sb projects and they shelved her and did not promote her in europe! Fortunately she left that bad company who ruined carly rae’s momentum
Exactly what no one is talking about. I firmly believe that no sane person would ever want to partner with him after what happened to Carly… it seems she doesn’t have much creative freedom
as much as i love ava, she reaaally needs to step away from sampling, dance-pop (the 2 things that got her popular) and something she has been doing latety which is collabing with DJs and instead she should bring something new and fresh to the table and step out of her comfort zone and i'm not saying that all her songs sound the same, not at all but almost all her songs fall under the gategory of dance pop and i really hope that AM3 is gonna be mainly dark pop like she promised us, and if she does so (with the right promo ofc), i believe that her next era will be so succeful because Dancing's Done, a song of hers song that contains a lot of dark pop elements, was loved by everyone that gave it a listen as far as i know
She may not get talked about but she still has the songs playing I still enjoyed her in 2019, I loved the whole short hair one side long the other side I got a few songs I like I like when she taps into the throwback I feel a theatrical vibe with her when I listen to her songs, Naked 🎶 Torn, my head and heart 🎶 are some good songs
16:07 omfg, I used to be the biggest Anastacia stan as a kid and I’ve never even thought about that. 😮 (You mispronounced her name, btw. Not an attack, just wanted to let you know. It’s pronounced the American way, I guess? Don’t know how else to describe it. Her self titled album from 2004 is perfection to me. Don’t know how someone would feel listening to it toady for the first time though. 😆)
The samples/interpolations have never bothered me, mostly because I am too young to remember most of the original songs. I also hate Shakira, but I was very fond of "Whatever"-never underestimate the human ability to make something good out of something bad. I am an oddball among Ava Max fans-or "Avatars," as they are called-being conservative and critical of feminism (I will not make this comment more political than it needs to be, but in short, I think that feminism still has merit, but has not evolved in the right way and has skewed priorities now), but I can still enjoy songs like "Kings & Queens" while rolling my eyes at their messages (or at least my perceptions thereof). I could also talk at length about the myriad of left-wing singers whose music I still like (Maren Morris is the only singer thus far whom I have abandoned over politics, and in her case it was because she took her two-year-old son to a drag show and has subsequently bragged about it). I also know that Ava Max is fond of drag, which, as you might have deduced, I do not appreciate-simply put, it is sexual and it is intended to titillate; therefore, it is pornographic. This is also why I have never been as fond of Jade Thirlwall as I have been of the rest of Little Mix (not that the others do not like drag, but they are much less vocal about it). (Luckily, Ava Max usually keeps that out of her songs, although the same does not hold true for some of her alternate music videos, like one for "The Motto.") Nevertheless, I remain very fond of Ava Max, and I cannot wait to see the "M" inverted.
it's just her music is so banal, coming across not so much as bad pop songs per se, but so unoriginal & soulless that there's no point in paying attention to her. she kinda reminds me of what Poppy was supposed to be parodying LOL. I would really love to hear her as an 'artist' though!
I think my biggest problem with her is how she often does a poor and lazy job at utilizing her samples correctly. Often, the samples are so apparent and on the nose, that it makes it hard to listen to the song. Pink Panthress is an artist who also uses samples a lot, but I feel like she uses them more creatively and effectively than Ava does. I don’t think Ava is untalented, but there is nothing unique or special about she’s doing. I listened to her most recent album when it dropped and I thought it was good for the most part. It’s just formulaic dance pop tracks, but there’s nothing inherently wrong with that.
I think she’s great, I love diamonds and dancefloors and listen to it often. I just played dancing’s done this morning while in the car. To each their own I suppose.
I was a HUUGE fan but then she kept doing samples I stopped being a fan around Torn. Blood Sweat & Tears is still one of my favs and Sweet But Psycho is a guilty pleasure song I just can't hate it
While I blame that bald tiktoker for most of the plagiarism accusations many artists got for the least similarities between their songs and other songs ( notably Olivia Rodrigo and Dua Lipa ).. I think Ava Max's issue is that she keeps releasing the most generic pop music when she's not sampling, and when she does, she doesn't sample "tastefully", she does it in the most lazy way possible letting the sampled melody carry the whole song. Look at 2 On by Tinashe, 6 foot 7 foot by Lil wayne, without me by Halsey, most Kanye stuff, heck even after like by IVE which sampled one of the most iconic songs to ever exist and yet it blended well into the instrument instead of carrying it.
To me jazz is the ultimate style of music, but I've never thought of pop as a lesser style, or not art at all. It takes a lot of skill to make a really catchy pop song and Ava Max has lots of catchy pop songs I think Naked is my favorite song of hers. And it's pretty impossible to make a melody that doesn't resemble any other existing melody at least partly. I'm a European too, Finnish, and her music has a European vibe. Honestly I don't get why Americans like artists such as Taylor Swift and Kanye West.
I respect Ava max with her music I love her music and you gotta listen to all her songs she’s done matching melodies but only a few samples like Ayla the carkeys lmao
My thoughts are with those of you affected by the devastating LA fires. I hope everyone who has had to evacuate is as safe- and as well- as is possible right now. I also hope anyone who has an affected loved one has at least been able to be in touch with them.
I'm so worried for California. Praying hard.
Hey I'm from Iran I hope people in LA are ok it has been really bad I'm sorry y'all saw and experience that painful moment love y'all
I think the issue here is that when she samples, she uses very well known songs and doesn't change much of them.
Yes absolutely , men's do worse and worse , you have a example like this ??

Yeah, I really wish more artists sampled non-singles/lesser-known songs. It's help with originality a little.
most often the songs that blow up r so boring but i think her 2nd album does what you said ! her usage of samples were in line w the story she was tryna tell. granted some songs arent as good but its still a good body of work
Beyonce literally plagiarizes people LOL. At least Ava writes her music and actually pays for the samples.
Alot of her album tracks on Diamonds & Dancefloors are very good, I feel like most of the people criticizing her just havent actually listened to her albums, only the singles.
It makes sense since they were big but I wouldnt criticize someone if I didnt listen to their discography especially since hers is pretty short.
i was actually surprised at how good the album is. the deep cuts id say are better than the singles she used

I get EXACTLY what you mean. She sits in the same part of my mind as Skye Riley from smile 2.
Exactly, a stereotypical pop star deprived from any personality or trait that sets her apart from the rest, because that's what she is.
I’ve been thinking this for years yes 😭
I love her idgaf
She makes bangers and minds her business
FOR REAL SHES AMAZINGGG
Exactly lol.
That diamonds and dance floors album is still in my gym rotation
Yessss! 🎉
I want an essay on selena gomez
Most people find her polarizing, bringing the question "how is she still so famous and relevant despite publicly showing the least effort in music?"
I think she's in a television show now, but something about women owning cosmetic lines and becoming billionaires erks me.
It must be QUITE easy to do bc so many celebrities have lines.
she is benefiting from the nostalgia due to her Disney days, just like many other former disney stars (e.g. Zendaya, etc.)
Because of Justin Bieber drama and Rare Beauty, mainly Rare Beauty tho
@@jessycaone4276 Zendaya doesn’t benefit from Disney nostalgia, I even forgot she was in Disney💀
Nostalgia, polished image and beauty. There you go.
She has a special place in my pop heart. "Heaven and Hell" is such a wel produced album, but her music lacks idenity. However, 'Naked', 'Who's Laughing Now?', and 'Sweet But Psycho' truly show her sense of humor and lyrical abilities. Her second album is almost anonymous but I still vibe to it.
same here
Same
her music is cute
I wasn't expecting an Ava video omggg
i’m mentally preparing myself before I watch this because this is my favorite artist everrr. I hope her talent is recognized because I see her vocals as some of the best in the game.
Thank you for this comment. I'm tired of unnecessary hate.
Same she’s been my number one since forever. I just hope she breaks into mainstream. She’s got so much talent🫶
I am so happy to see someone is actually talking about her.. cus I don't really see videos about her
Kings and queens peaked at 13 not 73
Art is inherently inspired and "unoriginal." As an artist myself, every person is inspired by someone else and every piece of art you make holds a piece of who you were inspired by. If Ava was inspired and made a version of it herself, it's still art. In addition, the more you look into hits we view as "classic" and "never done before" also feature samples and inspiration from other songs. Art is inherently a communal experience, people communicate with it in different ways and as long as she's crediting and paying her dues to the original; I see nothing wrong with her career.
i was just thinking of her yesterday. and i never think of ava, but jade's new song 'it girl' reminded me of 'so am i' in some parts
It’s the same 2 producers
I think Ava has some quality to great songs like Torn, My Head & My Heart, Million Dollar Baby and Salt, but idk i've never got the full appeal of her. Everything that she does feels...sorta plastic. Also she relies a LOT on sampling which has give her sorta of a cheap label from what i've saw
And regarding the whole art convo: technically all music is art, but what people consider art is mostly subjective to the taste of the person
Yeah don't see people talk about torn it's catchy af
This is literally a video about how she doesnt even have that many samples sis
I always thought it is weird how people say they want fun pop and feel good pop but hate her. Cus I feel like her music is so fun vibes. I love the song motto that she’s featured on. But I understand finding her lyrics cheesy. But I think a lotttttt of pop is cheesy lyrics.
For sure!!! They should’ve picked stronger singles from heaven & hell.
They complain that they want fun pop, but dont stream Carly Rae Jepsen or Ava Max lol.
Her whole career and discography is just so forgettable.
i cant speak for whole europe but i live in switzerland and nobody knows her here
Woooo
You're so mean
damn you were not holding back😬but I've to agree.
People are delusional. Most of these comments come from gay men in their thirties 😭
Today's interpolations are so grading to listen to, if you know the original, the new song always sounds like a cheap knock off.
Kings and queens peaked at 13 on the billboard hot 100!! Her 2nd biggest hit
Technically, everything is art... but art can be bad...
Her second album is very good
Art is subjective, just because YOU think it's bad does not mean it's inherently bad.
Lucky none of her art is bad
Yes like Taylors last 6 albums for example... Technically art, but still terrible and devoid of depth.
She always mentions Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston as her influences, so I'm curious how she'd sound doing a more R&B-focused song or album
She has a rnb ep she released before signing to a label
It's safe to say Ava Max is the queen of interpolations 😅
I do like ava maxs music diamonds and dancefloors is a good album
That said interpolations seem like a decent gimmick but don't really hold up music well because it's like an unimaginative cover and i can see her getting hate for doing it when most of the ones she's done are singles and because of the interpolation they get notoriety interpolations vs.
That's so funny that you read that Chose Your Fighter was similar to Kings and Queens cause I personally instantly heard Cascada's Bad Boy
She is clearly talented!*
i just feel like she’s so boring and her music sounds the same every time it drops
@@iy3274 bro her music is far from boring lmao! Its fun upbeat
Get ur ears checked definitely !!
She needs to find a way to break out of this. She's a queen and does club dance bops and occasionally bangers and people shit on her for no reason 😭😭😭
THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️
Couldn’t have said it better
yeah safe and decent music
I wonder if she really makes any $ off of her music since everyone is credited from her samples 😅
That pie is sliced paper thin
diamonds and dance floors was a really solid fun pop album that many people over looked, i’ve been listening to it constantly since release cause it’s just fun simple pop music
"coyote Oop"😂😂
She's a sound artist in my opinion. You probably have heard her but don't know much about her brand or even her name .
That song psycho sounds like down by Jay Sean to me. Does anyone else hear the similarities?
21:38 enha stans do NOT like that version of the song 😭 (i’ve never heard it, but i’ve seen a few complaining)
Enhypen fans are rabid and gross, I never even knew about enhypen until Ava max collabed with them. The way these fans went out of their way to be misogynistic and rude towards her career is plain gross.
@ THEY WERE? man i didn’t even know that 😭 i js seen em saying they didn’t like the song, which is a fine opinion to have
@@sockjin it was all over twitter/x.
I hope that if she switches labels she will start making art because i love her sm but she has way more potential
She’s always been making art…
She dont need to switch labels bcs alantic always gives her a budget
@@williamomghiihello comparing the mytp music video and my oh my you’ll notice the different. They are losing trust in her which is obviously gonna affect the budget. Spot a fake hasn’t even gotten a music video
Loved her debut album and her sophomore album was good, but it does all sound retro, like she's doing a concept album for "Jem and the Holograms"--not to mention the fact that a lot of it sounds similar.
All ik is that “maybe you’re the reason” and “so am I” are bops
The so-called "second album curse" affected Diamonds and Dancefloors. But not for me because that record was on repeat when it dropped!!
Digging the mushroom art on your wall 🍄
I really like her album “DIAMONDS AND DANCEFLOORS” its a solid dance pop/ europop record
Definitely new ppl should listen to dancings done, belladonna, naked and torn. I’ve been a day 1 fan and still love her.
Art can be bad
subjective, not objective. just because you find some art bad does not mean EVERYONE does.
But hers isnt
You must be talking about something else cuz there’s no way
The only thing that isn’t art is ai slop and alike
as much as i love ava, she reaaally needs to step away from sampling, dance-pop (the 2 things that got her popular) and something she has been doing latety which is collabing with DJs and instead she should bring something new and fresh to the table and step out of her comfort zone and i'm not saying that all her songs sound the same, not at all but almost all her songs fall under the gategory of dance pop and i really hope that AM3 is gonna be mainly dark pop like she promised us, and if she does so (with the right promo ofc), i believe that her next era will be so succeful because Dancing's Done, a song of hers song that contains a lot of dark pop elements, was loved by everyone that gave it a listen as far as i know
She may not get talked about but she still has the songs playing
I still enjoyed her in 2019, I loved the whole short hair one side long the other side
I got a few songs I like I like when she taps into the throwback
I feel a theatrical vibe with her when I listen to her songs,
Naked 🎶 Torn, my head and heart 🎶 are some good songs
It feels nice that you actually gave Ava a chance. And went to her discography. Good luck getting those songs out of your head 😅
16:07 omfg, I used to be the biggest Anastacia stan as a kid and I’ve never even thought about that. 😮
(You mispronounced her name, btw. Not an attack, just wanted to let you know. It’s pronounced the American way, I guess? Don’t know how else to describe it. Her self titled album from 2004 is perfection to me. Don’t know how someone would feel listening to it toady for the first time though. 😆)
The question on everyone's lips is "What other banger song will Ava Max ruin next?"
Ur just weird…
She has more spotify listeners than choli xbox
As she should.
Yeah because she’s more middle of the road
Ava Max deep dive oh I'm SAT
diamonds & dancefloors is so underrated
brought the heat back is a bop!!
My oh My is one of my favorite songs from her🎉🎉🎉
I think my biggest problem with her is how she often does a poor and lazy job at utilizing her samples correctly.
To each their own I suppose.
she samples too much her music seems soulless
Did you watch the video completely or just parroting what you've heard already?
So am I uses a common melody found in most songs. I’m not sure if it even has a name
I was a HUUGE fan but then she kept doing samples I stopped being a fan around Torn. Blood Sweat & Tears is still one of my favs and Sweet But Psycho is a guilty pleasure song I just can't hate it
I love ava’s music!!! It puts me in good mood everytime!!!
5:10 didn’t even know that! 😮
Ava Max deserves more recognition because she has a lot of vocal talent that people always seem to ignore
Everything is art but art can be seen as bad
subjective
Honestly I don't get why Americans like artists such as Taylor Swift and Kanye West.
not just americans that like them. brit here

I respect Ava max with her music I love her music and you gotta listen to all her songs she’s done matching melodies but only a few samples like Ayla the carkeys lmao
