In this video I will be turning a miniature segmented vase on my record power coronet herald lathe. This vase is made from red oak, black stained poplar veneer and ebony. Including the veneer pieces this vase has 302 individual segments! This is a thin walled vase (with a wall thickness of 3mm), I finish with vase with acrylic sanding sealer, acrylic gloss lacquer and finally burnishing cream (I have made a separate video specifically finishing the vase, link down below).

Thank you Bruce! Glad you like it!
That's a little beauty.
ahah Thanks Andy! Great things come it small packages ;)
Holy cow! That looks amazing!!
Thanks Brian, worth the effort i think ahah
For sure!
Perfect
That is a gorgeous looking vase, and the finish on it is just superb. Definite 10/10, I did think of marking it down a point to 9/10 just for the Chelsea FC blanket but then I thought "Well that's just being petty & cruel". After-all we all have our faults :-).
Seriously though, excellent job, you're a really talented guy.
hey mate ahaha, just for the record that blanket was my brother's when he was younger! I'm thrilled you like the vase, I have a bigger one coming soon!
Awesome work! 😍👌🏻👍🏻👊🏻
Thanks Fred! Also thank you for being a loyal viewer!
Awesome stuff
Just stunning isn't it! ahah
Good job! I saw this and I thought "Hey, he copied Kyle!" lol. I'm glad you gave him credit. I got to meet him and bought a couple of tools from him.
Yeah I like Kyle Toth's work! I'm jealous you've met him ahah
@@SeanEvelegh lol. it was pretty awesome seeing things in person that I've saw on his videos.
Top bro!!!🤙🏻🤙🏻
Magnifico !!
Thanks Stacy!
Very nicely finished vase! What was that black material you put on the top and bottom????
Thanks Robert, It was ebony. But you can you African black wood.
Very nice Sean but who has seven and a half minutes to make one? You have a bright future.
ahha very funny! I like that comment. that's the thing, you can never really tell how long it takes to make something, because you have to speed everything up for youtube! If I showed it in real time... no one would watch! ahaha
What angle is it want make the segment
inspiring Sean - thank you. Where is the thin black stuff from?
Thanks David! It's stained popular veneer. You can buy it online
@@SeanEvelegh Hi Sean, do you mean Poplar? If you cba to share a link that would be great as all the stuff I can find is only 0.6mm - your's looks at least 1mm?
What is that (material) black sheet/vernier that you inserted in between each slice of wood?
It’s stained poplar veneer
cracking wee vase Sean I have the same lathe i have done some segmented stuff but I will def try this one, can I ask where you get your timber and that black veneer? I'm also getting the smaller LTS table saw soon too, nice work fella cheers Ross 👍👍👍
Great work! What is the thickness of black veneer?
Great piece (as always). Do you find smaller pieces more challenging?
Hey mate, thank you very much. In terms of wood turning... I find turning large vases harder.
@@SeanEvelegh you should take a look at Ashley Harwood turning a table base that had to be lifted with an engine hoist...everything seems small after that ... lol ruclips.net/video/DmZFA4AvJYs/видео.html
First like and comment! Nice vase!
Hey Lluis, thanks for being so quick! ahah I'm glad you like the vase!
Were the black pieces at top and bottom stained poplar like the veneers you used to separate the pieces. New to turning and looking for ways to use less expensive woods to learn with while still having something worth keeping. If you did stain the end pieces, how did you get the consistent color so deep into the wood?
HI Neal, the end pieces where ebony, and the stained poplar veneer i used inbetween each segment, was pre-stained... I brought it like that.
Makes sense! Last question: did you use edge banding for the veneers (non-adhesive) or did you buy it in a sheet? I would be interested in adding some to my shop supplies. If you can share the brand and where you bought it that would be very helpful.
You have the patience of a.....a.....a.......superior woodworker! Beautiful! I now have a craving for some chocolate chip cookies! DD
Thanks Dennis, I do like projects that take a long time for some reason ahah!
👏👏👏👏👏
How tall is it?
Hi Tom, it is 10cm tall
Do you have an Etsy page?
No I don't actually... Soon I'll be creating an online shop!
This man now only has 3 fingers remaining. Lets all hope Elon can provide him with new hands and a brain.
Muito lindo, so acho que você poderia gastar menos madeira cortando mais estreito as madeiras ,falo com experiência própria
A Toth speciality
Agreed! ahah
You will have to perfect your technique because you are wasting too much wood for nothing where the real art comes from but in the end it is really nice congratulations 👍
You are too good but make designer peices to get more views may be
Thanks mate, Thanks for the suggestion.
You are realy greate
hey sean i had to get a new tablet so i had to subscribe again just to let you know my friend. chris
please, no music, or chill, quiet, pleasing music
Why would I go this route instead of a CA finish? Is there a pro vs con ?
Turned out great! How do you cut your wedges? Do you have a video of your setup for that and how you determine your segment size
Great color selection it really pops. If you added a tiny golden colored inlay to the bottom and neck of the vase. I think it would really take it to that next level.
HI mate, thanks for watching the video and your comment. I like there idea, thanks for the inspiration!
Where did you buy the black veneer?
you can get it from 'the wood veneer hub'
Because of your video I subscribed to your channel.
Love the video. Knowing your a Chelsea Fan makes it even better.
Nicely done Sean 😁. Yet another quality Evelegh creation 👍. It was going so well... then the glasses happened 😂🤣😂😎.. what was that 😂🤣. Lovely Job, keep up the great videos and the awesome craftsmanship 😁👍.
HI Frank, Mr Evelegh pulled it out the bag again ahah! ahaha sorry about the glasses ;) I've got some cool projects I'm designing, I'm looking forward to building them!
Love this, such a beautiful vase!
creative bro, i like this ok ...👍🇮🇩
Thanks mate! thrilled you liked it
That is so cute! I love it 😁
Thank you James! Mean a lot coming from a great turner like you!
A lovely piece of work young man...like it...👍🏻....has the cat left home...lol...
Thanks Stuart, ahah are you saying that, because a cat would knock it off the shelf ahah
I love this! You know that if made me think of? How cool would a set of wood ornaments be? They wouldn't even really have to be hollow, depending on if you like a good weight to your ornaments. Personally, I have a lot of glass ornaments so I always pick a strong tree
Hi Lucy, thank so much. I think that's a great idea... nearer Christmas time I'll make some ornaments!
Beautiful! Would you tell about "black stained poplar veneer", please? How you get the color through the veneer?
Hi Jari, Glad you liked the vase. You actually buy the veneer that colour. It is pre-stained
As with all your work Sean........stunning mate
Thanks lime! means a lot! thrilled you liked this one!
Not sure what I like more, your work or the music you use in your videos.
Great work keep it up
Hi Christopher, ahahah thank you very much. glad you keep watching and commenting!
It’s far better than anything I could ever make
I'm not sure about that ;) ahah thank you!
great work Sean, a really enjoyable video to watch and it will inspire others to give it a go i am sure.
Hi Stephen! thank you very much. that's exactly what i want!
Beautiful!!! Great work!!!
Thank you so much Elliott
praiseworthy!!! I like it.
Thanks Aminul! I'm thrilled you liked it
That's awesome 👌. I'm curious what you would charge for it, if you sold it?
Hey Nate, thrilled you liked it. They range a lot depending on species. But it would be around the £400 mark
Thanks a lot 👍
excellent
Thank you!
Great work Sean it is amazing . !! One thing though try to turn the inside of the rim before shaping it on the outside it will be a lot stronger and you won’t get cracks and defects .
Hey Seth, thanks for watching! I'm thrilled you like the vase, Thank you for the advice I'll do that next video. I think I realised that while turning it ahah it would have been better doing it the other way round!
Sean Evelegh you are very welcome 🙏. Keep up the good work . As a15 yr old wood Turner I know how hard it is to grasp the tool paths
Beautiful
Thanks Bertie!
Sorry Sean more of a big vase fan myself. Bigger does mean better after all
well well well, great things come in small packages mr!
you should know that ;)
I want this!!!😍❤️❤️❤️
Hey Kohn, glad you liked it! You can buy one if you like?
