    This event was a perfect storm. First, you take half-a-million degenerates and put them out in sweltering heat for 3 days. Second, you put on a bunch of crappy numetal acts who encourage them to break stuff. Third, you charge $4 for water, and $10 for pizza. Fourth, you give them overflowing outhouses. Fifth, you surround them with a bunch of naked girls. And sixth, you give them access to lots of drugs and alcohol.
    How can anyone have thought this was a good idea? Woodstock ‘69 was a financial disaster that happened to be salvaged by hippies who believed in peace and love. Of course, the late Michael Lang was so out of touch that he didn’t understand that late 90s kids were not hippies. And he wondered why nobody wanted to touch Woodstock 2019 with a ten foot pole?
    Musical festivals have always been a miserable experience for me personally. It’s way too hot, and you have to wait too long for your favorite acts to get on.

    That Woodstock 99 concert was a far out cry from the original 1969 concert which they have hippies and hippie musicians that are associated with the counterculture movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s. That Woodstock 99 concert was a total train wreck. Uncompromising environmental conditions because it was based at a decommissioned military base as well as overpriced food and drinks, sexual assaults on women, and all the pure anarchy. Even vandalism and violence occurred during Limp Bizkit’s rendition of “Break Stuff”, and bonfires that lid up during Red Hot Chili Peppers’ rendition of Jimi Hendrix’s “Fire” were bad enough. Still, that Woodstock 99 was chaotic and gone out of control.

    • @blueblur2273
      @blueblur2273 3 месяца назад

      It really wasn't. People just like to romanticize the original Woodstock. The original Woodstock reported more rapes than the 99 iteration and had exactly the same amount of deaths. There were also some destruction in the original Woodstock because people were mad about some overpriced food. The difference is tons of people got in the original Woodstock for free because they sneaked in by cutting through the fence. So the promoters lost control on what they could regulate(food & drinks) for that event unlike the 99 version which they had more control over because of the location.

      Yeah, and a perfect example of why letting unregulated market forces dictating the price of commodities is a *seriously* bad idea. If it were up to those moronic libertarians and their totally unregulated market you'd see greedy, opportunistic robbing of regular people being the norm... *everywhere*
      From what I read just water was insanely expensive at Woodstock '99. $12 for a small bottle of water? That's $21 dollars in 2022 values btw. It's insane this was even allowed when people were frying in the heat.
      If wish these greedy, self-righteous libertarians tried the same on a nationwide level just to see widespread riots like these and them getting peltered with everything from plastic bottles to rocks.
      I saw the Woodstock '99 documentary and the audience started throwing rocks at the MTV reporters and stages. Well done. MTV had little integrity from day one but with the final years of the 90's people were dead tired of their focus on "new, target demographics" .

      @atd8vii The reporter's question that preceeded her comment was, "Do you think that aggro vibe had anything to do with what happened (at Woodstock)?" and she responded, "Yeah, I think that's what drew a large white male Abercrombie & Fitch population (at the event)." They're talking specifically about one event and why the outcome came to pass. It was not a stand-alone comment made to compare white men vs. minorities. But, I can't stop you from making logical fallacies/strawman arguments if you insist upon it.

      Probably because Korn and Limp Bizkit were the hot new acts at the time and were what people of this age range were more into. Metallica were still in their Load/Reload era and were considered old guys by this point. Their whole set was mediocre, just like three songs from their classic albums while they were really trying hard to push this more mellow, bluesy 90's stuff they were doing and the Load/Reload songs dominated their set. Korn and Limp Bizkit were just taking off so no one realized how huge nu metal was getting at this time. By the time Metallica figured it out and tried to capitalize on it with St. Anger, the trend was on the decline already.
