Listening to this tonight has transported me back to my late teens. This was never off my Walkman. What a voice. What a songwriter. Criminally underrated.
I heard her in the 1990s, and I was blown away by her. She wasn't trying to be the weirdest or the most commercial, but it was great original music. The fact the we're all thinking the same thing means one day she won't be.

I think 15 years earlier she would have done better. She was an American living in the U.K. at a time when grunge on one hand and dance and Indy music here in the U.K. was all encompassing. I played in bands as a young lad and it was impossible to find venues as dance and rave culture and extacy? literally swept everything away The album as good as it was is let down by the quality of the musicians who coast through a lot of cliches suitable for an older artist I’m not saying the musicians are bad just to old and lacking in adventure and the mixing is for a conservative American audience but marketed in the U.K. and EU. The mistake was signing with Geffen records and although bands like Sonic Youth were on Geffen being a solo artist straight from a band you know well to using studio musicians you don’t know and making an album that sounds a lot like your previous band but more polished must have been slightly bewildering? She should have been allowed to grow as an artist and have kept her original band or used more indy musicians. That’s my take on it?
This is still easily one my favorite albums of all time.

I've wondered & thought the same thing. Her voice is so pure & flawless. Sure wish she was still recording. No one around today can compare with her.

I have been listening to Maria since Lone Justice. Amazing soulful voice.
Why she wasn’t more successful than Madonna or Taylor is insane.
How could someone with such beauty and talent disappear so quickly?! She has the greatest voice!

I have this album and like this track, but was disappointed overall. Her solo career lost me really.
Very talented lady but a lot of her music was depressing.
In my humble opinion she has the talent but the arrangement and the recording sucks. Her voice is lovely!
She's a good singer and a pretty decent songwriter too, I just can't get past how overproduced her albums are.
