This is not a "tiny house". It was clearly never intended to be lived in. What you have discovered is a folly. It is in the same class with grottos, artificial ruins, temples, belvederes, and obelisks. All perfectly normal for great estates of that era.
Would it have served any purpose other than adding interest to the landscape? Would it have been used, such as for storage? I suppose it may have been used by the owners and guests as a place to go if the weather turned bad during a walk, or if a couple wanted to hide their affection from view. It’s certainly lovely. 😊
@@merk9569 Folies were generally purely decorative. In this particular case however, it no doubt provided a quite place to sit and relax, read, reflect, possibly have those intimate moments away from prying eyes, play as children, etc. There is no doubt that it would have been used. Aside from the fact that it is clearly a folly, a sign that it is not a tiny house is there is no way to heat it, i.e., there is no fireplace, so it would have not have been habitable in the winter months and there would have been no way to prepare food. In the video, it is right when it says that the wealthy would sometimes hire people, the poor, obviously, to sit in their small hermitages and play at being hermits to amuse their guests but they didn't actually live there permanently. Typically, if you had a shooting weekend or a special occasion, you would hire a "hermit." The hermit in question would be brought food from the house. And they were notorious for slipping away to the village pub at night. This was as a rule, only done during the warmer weather when you might have people out enjoying your estate.
I hope the hermit had some occupation like spinning, which also allows lots of thinking at the same time. The space is JUST big enough for a small wheel.
Why don't we get to see Annabelle more often? She always gets the dirty jobs while you hug the limelight. Much as we all benefit from your vast knowledge of history and archaeology, dont forget the workers!
This is at Kedleston Hall, the building is the Hermits House, the floor had to be constructed in a special way to protect the tree roots.
That's a pretty cool old building, appreciate you sharing and a bit of it's history. TY
This place should be lived in and lived all the work went into it ❤

Great for a kids’ playhouse.

They know this....click bait.
Love the door and roof x
It looks alot like a gate house, like there may have been a larger actual residence somewhere else at one time.🤔
It's about as big as my flat. £950 a month and I don't even get a thatched roof for that! 😅
This place is totally awesome! 👍👍❤️✊🤘
Beautiful little building or home I love it
A house of the Fae & folk 🎉🎉❤

Is this proof that Hobbits really did exist? In the olden days they called them hermits.
Its very cute and looks very cozy. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Maybe a gatehouse for a big house 😊
It is like a mushroom!
Looks like a storage shed to me…😂🇺🇸
Where is it? Very cool and fairy like. 🙂 I have found out by the note in the house. Thank you. Re looked.

The boles on the tree next to the grotto are cool.
twice as big inside as my flat
It’s built like that to keep something dangerous out., what kind of natural predators in that area? Wear wolf??
Wonder why they went to all the unimaginable trouble to hoist those heavy stones up there just to make it tiny…🧐
What is the significance of the crown & shield/crest on the stone gate posts?
This could have been guardhouse.
Obviously it's been an outside cludgy !!!
Maybe the best home for Hobbits.
Is this yours or someone else's ?
