I'm Mozambican and I watched the game in a pub, surrounded by a majority of English fans in Zürich, and even though everything seemed lost, I continued to believe in the Springboks' ability for a game-change. This team, once again, did not disappoint me. The substitutions in the first line, at the right time, were a chess move by the great coach.
Great to see how they united, one for all, all for one, deserved to be in the final.

I must say that England outplayed SA the entire game. It was gut wrenching and nerve wrecking the entire game. I agree with most comments that England used the weather conditions to their advantage. I think apart from SA working more on their attacking approach to the game, I think Rassie and Jacques needs to put more focus on improving their game plan in weather conditions like this. Props to Rassie for making all those changes early on in the game. At first glance I thought what the hell was he thinking to make these changes in the first half, however now I see the difference it made in the end result. Personally I think Ox and Pollard were the best changes he made as they won this game for the Boks. Even with the odds stacked against us the entire game I must commend SA's determination and fighting spirit as they never gave up throughout the game. Pollard had little game play the entire world cup but man I have never see a player as cool as a cucumber under immense pressure when kicking a penalty from the halfway line.

Eng kick and chase hard and challenge physically in the rain game worked.. but have to say I knew boks would be jaded after the insane intensity and huge effort it took to knockout france the hosts 6days earlier.. but fair play to boks last minutes of the game they knew they needed to score a converted try and penalty to win and they did.. their mental strength is incredible

The thing about the Springboks, they challenge you to think. They challenge you to bring out your best form. Rugby can never be the same. This keeps the sports at its feet. Try corner the Springboks, give them the shirt end of the stick, they will find a way. They will come leading the pack.
You now have people who have never liked rugby watching, and being hooked on the sport. It a reavolution!

It looked like England tired. For the first 30 minutes of the first half and for a while in the second their kicking and handling was almost perfect, their running jumping and ruck was dominating. The tactics were spot on and they were playing out of their skins. It gradually got ragged though, the kicks were falling short and going wide, they dropped crucial balls, those two awful lineout throws when England probably had their best shot at a try, twice penalised for incidents after play was stopped and what happened to the scrum. So close to winning I couldn't help feeling frustrated at the end despite the team overall far exceeding expectations.

Libbok getting pulled was simply a tactical shift, the conditions suited Pollard (who's also been playing in Europe these past few seasons. The reality was that the forwards (looking a bit listless and a few % off their game) were getting bossed by England in that 1st half. One journalist said that Libbok looks like the scapegoat, but even Reinach didn't have a great game, so they were feeding off scraps. The team/squad dynamic I think means Manie will take it in his stride. The guy that looked really down after coming off, was Steven Kitshoff - think he needs a rest

England couldn’t get a try in that game even though they played well because South Africa’s defence was solid. South Africa got a try and turned the game around for themselves. In a rugby match you are never a winner until the last whistle blows because at any minute the game could be taken away from you which is exactly what happened. There’s no time to think the game is in your bag until it’s in your bag.❤🇿🇦

Call me a dinosaur but I'm old-fashioned enough to think that great rugby teams score tries. If I want to watch men kicking goals, I watch football.
For me, rugby is about tries.
Of course, if defending teams commit infringements they should be punished and a penalty for a potential three points ought to deter foul play but it's not a great spectacle.
I haven't checked the stats but I suspect that England have scored far fewer tries in this tournament than any other top-ranked nation and I think it would be dreadful for rugby if the tournament was won by a team that invariably chooses to kick penalties instead of going for a try.
The fact that the only team which scored a try won the semi-final pleases me.
Penalties (and conversions) are such an uninteresting spectacle that edited highlights reels generally don't even bother to show them.
We all want to see teams attempting to score tries and charging towards the line.
I wonder if it's now time to increase the value of an unconverted try to six or seven points?

Fed up of seeing everyone trash England, the pool picks wasn’t their fault, having easy games leading up also wasn’t their fault. Everyone had written them off and couldn’t wait to see them slammed and it didn’t happen. England slammed the boks for most of the game and if it wasn’t for some issues with sinclar and George I think the game would of been ours.

Lucky win, sorry. I am SA' an. The British did the homework. Their kicking game was perfect because they knew our wings are too short/small to defend it. Their defense was good and they did put us under pressure. Our backline is not playing the ball and that is where we lose against the AB's if we don't wake up. Fact: We miss Marx and Lood. Our lineouts are not what it used to be. Maybe play Jessie or Am at Wing on one side. We need taller and stronger guys there and maybe Esterhuizen with Am as centers.

They just didn’t have the attacking threat to put the Boks away when they were there for the taking. The front row replacements made the difference in the end. Both the try and Pollrds final kick came from scrum penalties. Anyway, congrats to the Boks and good luck in the final

Mannie had to bad kicks and Handre had two bad kicks. The reason for the sub was to change strategy because the mauls, LO, scrum combined with tired players was a real problem that Rassie had to address quickly. The real man of the match was Ox Nché. His scrums gave us the opportunity to keep the score board moving.

  • @Jumping-Goat

Lots to look at, firstly I don't know why we don't put more pressure on the catcher at the kickoff, we kick too deep and give them too much time to play the ball. Secondly, we have to find bigger, athletic full backs who can deal with the box kicks like Steward can, he's phenomenal.
On a different note, it would be nice if foreign commentators would try to pronounce saffa names correctly, for example, Manie is pronounced "Marni" and Rassie is pronounced "Russie".
