    Listened to this video while I was out running errands, and it actually made me a little bit emotional thinking about my own cavalier at home, Frodo. 😂 I miss him after just a few hours! Best breed.

    Cavaliers ......... once they have you hooked yer round their little paws .THERE IS NO GOING BACK !

  • @Captain-Cosmo

    We begin bright and early with hide-and-seek, followed by a 20 minute belly rub, and a morning treat. Several play sessions and cuddle sessions throughout the day. Our little girl does outside with us in the afternoon for a bit of yard work, but doesn't stay long, favoring an afternoon relax on the couch. She's always listening out for us, though, and enjoys when we return. In the evening, she enjoys about 20 minutes of "funny dog" videos on RUclips. Then one more play session (usually chasing the laser light) and a full brushing. Cavaliers are very demanding, but their companion(s) are rewarded with a beautiful, sweet, and affectionate pup that is great around people and other dogs alike. DO NOT leave them for long, however. Separation anxiety is very real with these pups, and they absolutely should not be left along during a full work day away from home. They are best with those who can stay at home and give them the attention and care they need.

    We were long time Standard Poodle people (with some other dogs along the way too) --just lost our 6th, 14 YO Molly--but 7 years ago or so we were introduced to Cavaliers and after a lot of research and help we found the right tri girl, 4.5 months Gemma who now has our total attention and is 6 YO--but we are looking for a second, hopefully within the year. Gemma is almost perfect--loves to travel, loves everyone, has a puckish personality, quiet, beautiful. I have always groomed my own dogs and Gemma is very good about participating (but not necessarily enthusiastically)--just a fun, loving dog that has her own unique Spaniel traits, enjoys 'her people' and life--and is a wonderful companion--she just adapts to whatever we do and other Cav people tell me theirs are the same--all the ones I've met are just lovely dogs.

    This is absolutely a guard dog, not taking up a fight I will suppose, but is very alert and does what a guard dog should do, informing us about what is going on on our property, and beyond! A haunting dog with good sights, smell and and hearing, and a very good family and sporting dog! Loves to go for walks for hours and hours!

    I had one of mine live to 16. I owe it to taking care of his teeth. At 16 I had to have him euthanized he was deaf, and his eyesight wasn't good also weak hips. It was all manageable but one day he just couldn't get up and refused to eat. The vet said we could try somethings to bring him back but it wouldn't have been for long so I had to let him go. I still miss him still, wonderful companion, wonderful breed.

    It's kinda sad how many people pick this breed to be couch potato lap dogs. I had Cav for 14 years, and we did 40min walks 4-5 times a day, until the day he died. I also allowed him to express himslef, which sometimes lead up to pretty hilarious moments. But when ever I was sad, sick or tired, he was always there for me.

    My cavalier walks off lead at the park but always chooses to follow behind me rather than exploring the park and socialising with the other dogs. If I sit down he will basically only explore the bench I’m sitting on lol. Also as a puppy he interacted with the other dogs at the park but nowadays he rarely walks up to another dog first. Any ideas how to get him to socialise better and maybe even feel comfortable walking exploring the grass at the park while I sit down?

    We've had 3 in total and are fortunate that one is still with us, considering their health issues. They've always been quiet dogs, but ever since having kids our Cavvie has become very protective and will bark at anyone who approaches the house. I may be wrong, but I always thought that King Charles introduced a law stating CKCS are allowed to be taken into public houses in England.

    hi, i wanna know some things about cavaliers. Can they stay alone 4 hours ? Do they bark a lot(i live in a apartament so it would be bad)? Do they sheed A LOT? And if you know a dog breed that can be alone for 4 hours or more,doesent bark and doesent sheed much..can you tell me ? hope your good and safe.

    • @Arielsfoodythoughts
      @Arielsfoodythoughts 3 года назад +1

      Their ability to be alone for periods of time depends on their training, but if you don't train them to get used to being alone they do tend to develop seperation anxiety. They definitely shed...quite an amount but then again not as much as my previous dog(husky). They're usually not barkers unless they feel something is wrong.

      I've had Cavaliers for 13 years and yes, they are prone to ear infections. However, I have found that regular (weekly) cleaning of the ears goes a long way towards preventing the problem. I also am careful to put cotton in their ears when bathing. Oh! warm up the solution slightly and your dog won't mind the cleaning as much! Good luck!

    • @picnicphoto
      @picnicphoto 3 года назад

      @@dollyn1610 I would agree. Having had Standard Poodles for many many years (6 of them) I treat my Cav's ears the same--regular cleaning, and have not had an infection yet.

      Not true. There are SOME Cavaliers that have the Chiari-Like Malformation (CM) & Syringomyelia (SM). But these conditions can be screened for just as you screen for MVD. Only adopt your Cavaliers from breeders who participate in the appropriate breeding protocols. And ask to SEE the proof. With proper diligence, the breed can move forward.
