I slowly fill with grief as I ride home from school in the car as I look at the rain outside. All I wanted to do was skate, The weather did NOt COMPLY. As I slump down on my bed I look at my phone. Another long day of no skateboarding. I load up youtube to watch some skate videos and out of the corner of my eye I see this. Finally it had come. To only make it better Cardiel. Loveletters has saved my day again.
I love Cardiel for that raw 'Get Some' energy and always hard charging sessions. The newer guys like the slow tech stuff but there's so much passion and love for the sport that John gives back. That is all just his skating and then you add his recovery from paralysis and his story just becomes the stuff of legends... I wish more people today knew about John and his life it's so inspirational across the board.
Cardiel is a living example of what "Live Free or Die" actually means. I'm 90% sure that 540 was done at The Playground in Wallingford CT and I was one of those little kids at the bottom right.
Gratz on Season 8!!# All hail Grosso & Cardiel! I was lucky enough to be skating when people started taking about Cardiel. After all he's gone through. Gives me inspiration to this day. And you say it like it is. We (skaters) were the nerdy outcasts. Hearing you talk about It helped me accept just bring myself. So what if I'm almost 50 and still love the same shit I got into at 13. I was kind of embarrassed about that. It looked like a mid life crisis to most. I'm the old computer geek, what am I doing on a skateboard. Or playing TSOL in my van. It's just always been in my blood. Been about 10 years now since I got back into it. And it feels great just pushing around. No flips and not much pop anymore. Why I REALLY respect the ones who still do. Keep on rollin' and here's to another 8👍👑

Fuck ya! Cardiel! Dude is the def of "Loose", and committed, pelvis is a tough shot, snapped mine in half too and still skated and snowboarded my ass off once I learned to walk again. Shit still aches if I sit on my ass too long. So stoked for Cardiel 2! Thanks Vans & Grosso made my night.
I was completely blown away by his Sight Unseen part but soon after, stopped keeping up with skating. After about a 5+ year hiatus, I went in to skate shop to pick up a new deck and Sight Unseen was playing on a TV in the shop. I was chatting with the employees, and I was telling them how I loved the Cardiel part. One of them than said something eluding to how it was unfortunate what happened to John. I asked him, "What happened?"...I'll never forget the look on that guys face...like when an adult messes up and accidentally lets a kid know Santa isn't real. His exact words were, "Fuck, I'm sorry man" like as if someone i knew had died. I went home and watched the Epicly Latr'd parts and learned the details. Heavy. Dudes a complete anomaly in the Matrix
