Woke up in this lady's yard with her screaming and crying and yelling at me with a broken clavicle, no skin on my palms and hip and a concussion, I didn't know my name or home phone number. The street was called Gault in El Cajon in 1978. My mom was so pissed when she got to the hospital. I smelled like shit all summer because i wouldn't shower because of the pain. Good times.
I am a godawful skater, but one time I bombed this big-ass hill in my friend's neighborhood and didn't bail. It's probably one of my proudest moments in my life.
I fucking love skateboarding. It’s like nothing else in the world and I’m glad to have a family all over the world that can agree to the same feelings that go through our body when we even THINK about skateboarding
Hills are how everyone should learn how to ride a skateboard. Start on small hill learn to carve. Nowadays kids can kick flip before the even learn to push properly 😂
I grew up on a fairly steep street with a long curve in it. You weren't allowed to skate with the big kids til you started off on the top driveway (so steep you couldnt park cars on it in the winter when it snowed) and bomb the whole way. You had 2 choices ar the bottom, attempt to make the corner on to the next street where it was flat or superman it onto the grass field. Good times.
I hit the wobbles going the fastest i've ever been on a skatie and spent the next 3 months growing my skin back. Still get sweaty palms watching footage like this 20 years later!
I love how Hewitt is pretty much always rolling a joint or always looking bombed whenever he’s featured in these videos. Pedro’s fs inverts are otherworldly
Levi's Haka stance combined w/ The Hut Tuck is the best way to go about hills imo. 💪🏾🤙🏾 I'm a big&tall sk8r who nvr got too much into technical sk8n, and as i got older i wanted to git gud @ something i could still do, which was go fast. My favorite way to hit a comfy hill is to barge it open-armed like Hawken, then slowly lower down into more of a face-first Hutson style when the speeds get higher. Riding out all the speed once u reach flat is so satisfying💨💨 Loose trucks w/ med/hard bushings save lives. That way they wobble less initially, and are more stable @ higher speeds, but still respond when u want a deeper carve. Go Sk8!😅😅
Fractured upper humerus straight across and shoulder head in a perfect Mercedes emblem..... bombing a hill in Leland , Mi. ten years ago....... physical therapy for almost nine months.
speed wobbles happen when your rear truck starts to try to steer the board instead of your front truck. you can eliminate speed wobbles by running a differential tightness on your front and rear truck (tighter rear truck than front truck) and always keeping your weight over the front truck. It doesn't have to be much tighter but I bomb hella hills and its been a minute since I caught speed wobbs. you can always set your board back when you go to the park
Dude at the end pulled an Andy Macdonald and damn near wrote an open letter to "the industry" letting them know he was coming to dominate. I wonder how his campaign went... Oh, and it's about fucking time we got a new season of Love Letters! Never stop.
I'm so fucking stoked to have the letters back , welcome back grosso , and to kick it off with such a gnarly episode ( although I'm suprised no one mentioned the gx100 guys )
About 15 yrs ago in halifax ns i bombed from the Commons down to Barrington street with 5 fruends after we collectively drank about 4 quarts of rum..Double hill so its 2 blocks hill/ flat / hill with a loose right turn to downtown at the bottom..everybody ate shit except for me.i ride mad loose trucks and my speed wobbles were so bad they turned into vibrations like i was riding 20 flatspots ..pretty much prepared to die but rode it out down past Barrington Mall...big party after that! In over 35 yrs skating that was probably my favorite thing i ever did! Glad to see you back Grosso!
Bobby Bell haha thats nuts. I've done lacewood in Clayton park naked and then skated down to the common and dropped in the bowl still naked. 3am drunk as shit.
Faaked myself up proper when i was about 12. Saw Thrashin for the first time and had no idea what bombing a hill could lead up to. Needless to say i got fucked up good and proper. Its been almost 30 years later and still loving skateboarding.
I love the respect that these guys have for downhill skating. As a downhill skater its cool to see that they view us that way. But mad props to you street, and park skaters as well I've tried it as well a crusin some parks and its so different and hard.
Justin Gough Indy is just trying to win you over so you'll but their longboard trucks, very few of the people here actually respect longboarders, if they did then they would bomb hills on longboards.
best hill-bomb of my life was on some shrooms... greatest feeling in the world so I did it about 15-20 times over and over again. Skateboarding is bliss
gunner murphy In my opinion people on both sides who think "longboarding" is something different from skateboarding are kooks who don't know their own history. Notice they didn't say "longboarding" anywhere in this video. This is Loveletters to Skateboarding. Good on ya Grosso!!!
There's real longboarders that go just as hard and style, especially downhill. Then you have the college campus longboard posers. Definitely a big difference.
Hey! More Loveletters- :) My fav. run in S.F.- from the top of Haight St. all the way down to the Mission district and then catch the 22Filmore back up to the top of Haight- rinse/repeat. (Golden Gate Park to Ocean Beach was fun too...) Wouldn't trade those years for anything! Best, *A.
Gerwer is an American hero. I didn't know anything about downhill skate culture... I assumed it was weird old guys in aerodynamic armor, but these dudes are BUCK!!
Welcome back, Grosso! Nothing fills me with more anxiety than watching downhill. Maybe it’s sick adrenaline. Haven’t bombed a hill in years. Anyway, glad you’re back.
Me and my best friend just threw a hill bomb event today we had like 50 people show up just from sharing the fuck out of a single post on instagram. Skateboarding always provides! We miss you jeff hope you’re hauling ass with some good homies in sone kind of spirit.
dayyyuumm that was fuggin sick. those slams !!!!! had me screw faced pretty bad lol. And didnt know the nek minnut dude ( Levi Hawken ) was a downhill beast props man killing it :) love this series
Sickkkkk! Great first episode for new season. Lil SDRE Seven in there too. Where's the TA episode/doc movie?? Love this show been frothing patiently for this return👍
Man l was out fishing since May in Alaska and damn new love letters are out fantastic. Going down hill was the coolest after skating ramp. Hey let go to that part of town that has a big hill Jaja.
My 5 yr old daughter just discovered hill-bombing and instantly loved it. As a skater dad, I'm both super-proud and terrified at the same time because she's definitely no stranger to hospitals already
Definitely did some hill bombs! Used to take an old box number plate and cut the shape of an open hand out of it, hot glue it to a gardening glove and use it as downhill gloves.
Dude rode a SHUT board bombing that hill crash sliding ! Dope . Do your history boys . Especially if you’re from New York. Those hills are badass. My first time in SF I bombed a hill and something caught my eye ,I was going so fast and got wobbles that my wheel blew off ! ! It was all down hill after that 🙈😝💀🤯🤕🤕
Show of hands if you've bombed some hills!
Ethan Atwell 🖐️'s
You're gonna see a lot of skinned palms hahaha
Let's hope so! Gotta pay your dues lol
i left a lot of elbow meats on san franciscos
By far my worst 2 slams were on hills. 1 acorn and I didn't have a chin for a Summer

Speed wobbles: The hardest trick to land....dayum
I kinda jumped off, regret it till this day.
NEVER NEVER NEVER lean back - NEVER. Its all front truck - downhill is nothing like street and pool skating, nothing like it.
not for Sean Greene
The realest shit.
Them dreaded wobbles.
I fucking love skateboarding.
It’s like nothing else in the world and I’m glad to have a family all over the world that can agree to the same feelings that go through our body when we even THINK about skateboarding
💙💙💙
skateboarding is the best
Ahh skateboarding. I love you.
Hi5 from your family in Norway!
I just started skateboarding again after 8 years of not skateboarding, so glad to be back, the best feeling ever.

Straight up!!!! But whatevs its all good. It is funny seeing kids kickflip and struggle getting around the park lmaooo
and they go about 1mph
I'm probably gonna watch this like 50 times just like every other episode
like without even knowing or remembering that you watched it last week on the toilet hahaha
@@reillyjarrosiak63I'm doin that same exact thing at this very moment.
Surprised frankies spitfire switch bomb wasn’t in this! That ones my all time favourite
Just a casual group of school children forming a hand held barrier across the intersection. No big deal.
I hit the wobbles going the fastest i've ever been on a skatie and spent the next 3 months growing my skin back. Still get sweaty palms watching footage like this 20 years later!
"Speed wobble is the hardest trick to land" very accurate! Lol
I love how Hewitt is pretty much always rolling a joint or always looking bombed whenever he’s featured in these videos. Pedro’s fs inverts are otherworldly

Fuckin heart pumping just watching that, grin on my face like a fool. Years gone by...
Fractured upper humerus straight across and shoulder head in a perfect Mercedes emblem..... bombing a hill in Leland , Mi. ten years ago....... physical therapy for almost nine months.
this Loveletters series is one of the best things on youtube

Truck Wars was a really good one. Let's see Wheel Wars
Watching this episode saved my life. Thank you Franky.
Dude at the end pulled an Andy Macdonald and damn near wrote an open letter to "the industry" letting them know he was coming to dominate. I wonder how his campaign went...
Oh, and it's about fucking time we got a new season of Love Letters! Never stop.
The best skateboarding show ever!!!
Ride in peace Grosso, you fucking legend. ❤️
Thank you Vans, Six Stair, Grosso, and all others that make these incredible videos possible. Peace and Love.....
Finally ! Waiting for new episodes takes too long. At 45 yrs old I don't have the god dam patience to wait !
Yes! Finally a new season. Thank you guys.
going downhill is so important to skateboarding because it is the first "trick" you learn. you can do it on any skateboard. there are no boundaries.
So stoked the letters are back
Jeff keeps delivering the goods, killer episode. Now go bomb a hill!
I'm so fucking stoked to have the letters back , welcome back grosso , and to kick it off with such a gnarly episode ( although I'm suprised no one mentioned the gx100 guys )
One of the best love letter ever..🙏

Bobby Bell I've never been there but my wife (who attended Dalhousie)) just told me you're a nutbar for even attempting that. Good on ya!
Loose trucks save lives, that's fuckin gnarly
Bobby Bell haha thats nuts. I've done lacewood in Clayton park naked and then skated down to the common and dropped in the bowl still naked. 3am drunk as shit.
John Wentzell hahaha wicked! You arent the dude that skated the Cabot Trail in CB naked are you?
Bobby Bell unfortunately i can't claim that. And now I'm too old for naked skating.
Great seeing new Love Letter. Those hill guys; damn.
Faaked myself up proper when i was about 12. Saw Thrashin for the first time and had no idea what bombing a hill could lead up to. Needless to say i got fucked up good and proper. Its been almost 30 years later and still loving skateboarding.
In 1978, in my neighborhood, there were no pools, no ramps, no parks. Just hills.
Bombing hills in SF is still my favorite feeling in the world, nothing compares
Who else stoked about season 9?
I love the respect that these guys have for downhill skating. As a downhill skater its cool to see that they view us that way. But mad props to you street, and park skaters as well I've tried it as well a crusin some parks and its so different and hard.
Justin Gough Indy is just trying to win you over so you'll but their longboard trucks, very few of the people here actually respect longboarders, if they did then they would bomb hills on longboards.
Jon Michael Williams i honestly would never by indys rkp its a pretty basic one and i already have much better precision trucks
best hill-bomb of my life was on some shrooms... greatest feeling in the world so I did it about 15-20 times over and over again. Skateboarding is bliss
Are you 12? Drugs are cool man!!!
Im really happy to see downhill longboarding too instead of them deeming it kooky
gunner murphy In my opinion people on both sides who think "longboarding" is something different from skateboarding are kooks who don't know their own history. Notice they didn't say "longboarding" anywhere in this video. This is Loveletters to Skateboarding. Good on ya Grosso!!!
There's real longboarders that go just as hard and style, especially downhill. Then you have the college campus longboard posers. Definitely a big difference.
Unless you're bombing mountains or settin world records you can drop the fucking low rider, soft wheels and helmet. It's all superfluous
gunner murphy only because indy is selling longboard trucks now, they just wanna win all the longboarders over so they'll buy the trucks
gunner murphy nah, it's still kooky.
Love you grosso! RIP
Best, *A.
Andrew Moore - yes! I still bomb Height all the time, I'm right off Hayes/Masonic - best fucking feeling in the world!
Jeff Grosso and Vans thank you for this !!! And Nuge ! The letters helps everyone in skateboarding young, old, Sick or healthy. :)
Liked before I watched it of course.
Gerwer is an American hero. I didn't know anything about downhill skate culture... I assumed it was weird old guys in aerodynamic armor, but these dudes are BUCK!!
These comment stories are great!!! This is what we did as kids before they built skate parks in every town in the USA lolz
9.8 Frank
9.81
Hey at least he got the squared part
Lol
Welcome back, Grosso!
Nothing fills me with more anxiety than watching downhill. Maybe it’s sick adrenaline. Haven’t bombed a hill in years.
Anyway, glad you’re back.
Clip at 13:21 always cracks me up
Basically like the start of an F1 race, with the guy out front sipping a beer.
RIP Jeff Grosso!

RIP GROSSO,A KING
Laughing at the image of Jeff Grosso thinking about those duck tail suits and just melting inside with rage
Wow. That last clip was from a video called Board Crazy. I remember my mom bought it for me in 1990. First time I ever heard Nirvana.
The capitola classic! Classic
dayyyuumm that was fuggin sick. those slams !!!!! had me screw faced pretty bad lol. And didnt know the nek minnut dude ( Levi Hawken ) was a downhill beast props man killing it :) love this series

Oh my fuck, thanks Ganesha this is back! I've been going a little mad on the rainy days without my dose of letters. Stoked.
Thank you for this.
Yes he’s back!!!
New season 🖤 letters !!! GRACIAS 👊🏽🔥!!!! .
Bombing hills is where I learned what a skin graph is.
Jeff's alive!!!!! Welcome back dude! Gerwer must be pretty high because its 9.8 meters per second squared at ground level.
Sickkkkk! Great first episode for new season. Lil SDRE Seven in there too. Where's the TA episode/doc movie?? Love this show been frothing patiently for this return👍
AND WE’RE BACK!! Fuck yess!!
Awesome video. I love bombing hills 💜
Did 50mph runs in the late 70's on video tape somewhere. Kryptonic reds and a jean jacket were my weapon of choice.
Once I had hold my friends husky on a leash and it started running and I had crazy soeed wobbles, I cant imagine going down these hills lol
I love how Nuge is always rocking the 13th Floor Elevators shirt
Sooo gnarly.
always been fan of vans.
Thanks for repping us, Pico! Check out more from Vans Skate here: bit.ly/2E9xO6J

Rest In Peace 🕊
And we are back!
Dude at the end is priceless
Finally new letters and this ones a sick one and close to my heart being from SF
Jeff Grosso.... Nobody will replace you...
Ty Jeff finally ca hills
Is there any way that you guys can make Frank a constant fixture on this show?
9 seasons and he's made 7 appearances... That's not near enough.
Frank should be a constant on every show about skating, and some not about skating.
@@joshbarth9469 Hell yeah!
Frank is a fuckin' awesome and hilarious dude.
Man l was out fishing since May in Alaska and damn new love letters are out fantastic. Going down hill was the coolest after skating ramp. Hey let go to that part of town that has a big hill Jaja.
12:06 "how do you get out if speed wobbles?" Sit down get low and hold what you got maybe take a tiny carvesworth
Out of it tht the New Zealand dude is on here. Famous in nz for the "nek minnit" sketches. Good skater too
My 5 yr old daughter just discovered hill-bombing and instantly loved it. As a skater dad, I'm both super-proud and terrified at the same time because she's definitely no stranger to hospitals already
Bombing hills on a "short " board is fucking gnarly as it gets.
Those Frisco cats are straight savages.
I remember Levi from Brisbane in the 90s. Skating hills there was big back then and I had to get used to it.
YES!!! Love it keep it up
Sergio Yuppie is the man style for days
Pedro causally eating cereal while Frank is talking is great
Damn finally a new episode! Hell yeah! I might bomb a hill on my lunch break. #deathwobble
Well needed
Definitely did some hill bombs! Used to take an old box number plate and cut the shape of an open hand out of it, hot glue it to a gardening glove and use it as downhill gloves.
Taking a gnar slam hill bombing in Aptos a couple years ago got me back into skating. Thank God for #SpeedAddiction 💯
Nek minute..hahaha I'm a Kiwi, tripping out that Levi was on letter's! Classic. Thanks Jeff and VANS, keep em coming.
! It was all down hill after that 🙈😝💀🤯🤕🤕
Lee "the rocket" Taylor! Legend. Had that clip on an old VHS tape called Board Crazy. From 1990 I believe
Nuge's 13th Floor Elevators shirt is sick!
just love.... GO!
Growing up in the Bay Area I’ve seen so many people just destroyed in SF...too much for me. More power to those that can pull it off.
Great one
loved the sunny day real estate inclusion
Great episode!!!
