This has become my favorite thing on youtube. Letters rocks. Grosso is hilarious, too. Especially when he's telling people they should be stalling handplants, upside down, smoking a cigarette and calling him out. I damn near died laughing. Vans, thanks for putting this on. Grosso's been a legend since I was a kid.
Not that anyone could ever replace Grosso but Steve Olson (with the help of Six Stair) talking about the history of skating would be highly entertaining.
As a guy who grew up with the era of x games, thproskater, ledge dancing in plazas (still sick!) and xtreme deodurant . gotta say youve opened up a time of skating that i always thought was rad but, for lack of a better word, forgotten. These videos bad helped me understand the minutia of gradual innovations, and although chock full of well-intentioned opinions, pays alot of respect to "what actually went down". from a 32yr old skate rat: thanks so much for really putting your heart out there and paying respect to the fathers. Live to skate - you fucking rule man! more letters! Also, consider a drehobl/cardiel/dlx/sanfran episode - so much history!
I feel rather lucky to have personally witnessed Nolder schralping his Monty grinds across the nasty chopped up coping of Kona's old fiberglass vert ramp. I also remember seeing him smashing his wheels into the roof that used hang out over the lip of one side. Monty was a beast!
It's really educational to see all these old men talking about who came up with what trick. Clearly a testament to what skateboarding is REALLY all about. BRAVO!
How about a love letter dedicated to the skaters that have been shunned, such as the 5 that got banned from Thrasher? Some of the guys were at the top of the contest lists (Benji Galloway, Tas Pappas kind of fits this category) and now aren't invited to Masters events?
Tas is a sick skater and it’s a shame that him and his brother are being erased from history. They both fucked up but they’re not any more fucked up than some of these other legends they just imploded faster.
Back side foot plant and really getting the back foot on your deck and really lifting that deck and leg as high as you can plus holding it before dropping back in style ish ya has got to be one of the best moves ever ,I just FUCKIN LOVE THEM!
Being an old fart myself. It was great to see Dave Andrecht. Also great to see some pics from my home town skate park, Skatercross as well as Eric Grisham who worked the pro shop and coached us little skate ratz. You tell it like it is, and I know you can't tell it any other way. That's why we love to watch. Looking forward to new Loveletters. What do you think about KOTR on Vice/HBO. Personally, I think they couldn't have found a better host.
A couple of days ago I saw a video where gonz mocks grosso and letters. And I like grosso and letters, but I think it would be good if someone did a street focused version that focused on 1986-2006 street skating and was hosted by gonz or Jason lee, someone mellow, not a vallely, or street equivalent of grosso, someone more yoda
There needs to be a whole Andrecht episode. I had the honor of working with him for a couple years, and he is still to date the most interesting person I have ever had the luck to count 500000000 pairs of size xxxxxxxxxxxxxl jeans with.
hey grosso , would love to see an episode on spins and the 900 , do you think papas would have done the first 900 on TV if Tony Hawk hadn't got him kicked from the comp .
William Stanway Even if he would have something to do with that competition, nothing stopped Pappas from doing the trick anywhere else. It's just a cop out excuse coming out of jealousy on his part.
+Bin Ocular I disagree, if your training for a trick which could break your career , the place you would want to do it is the xganes best trick, he said he had never landed it and was practicing it for that competition, much like Tony , Tony knew this and he was also well in with the organisers so had papas band from competing so he could get the glory because he knew papas was ganna try the trick aswell, I like Tony but I understand papas was a wild one and they just had alot of beef , I wouldn't be jealous if that happened I would be apoplectic with rage .
William Stanway If he was close minded enough to refuse to do it anywhere else but the xgames best trick contest he kind of painted himself into a corner. It's just a trick and Tony happened to do it before Pappas, he got pissed and came up with this conspiracy theory that the whole skate world is against him. Just sounds like a bad loser to me. Nothing but the documentary about Pappas points to the contest being rigged and that Tony kicked him out, that's just his way of putting the blame on Tony just because he himself was not able to do it first.
When we are talking "foot-plant"-as in "fast-plant...,...Chris Miller did them best, even better than Hosoi...throwing his tail of the Board almost upside Down, while floating beautifully and as always-riding faaast!!!

I don't see Kris Markovich, Jeremy Wray, Chris Lambert mentioned much, they were throwing themselves down huge gaps before Jamie Thomas and Jaws..
Frank Hirata. What about featuring the skaters from Thrasher's 'Week Of Hate'?
check the latest issue of thrasher for your Tas Pappas photo dude.
Ryan Fabry doesn't deserve it, he blew it for good when he fucked Sheffey's wife.
