As a former baker $4.50 for a detailed cake pop is an amazing price… now $3,000 for that cake is waaayyy overpriced

As someone who works in a bakery, $4.50 for a cake pop that’s sculpted to look like you is a VERY good price!

As a professional artist who constantly tells other artists not to undercharge for their work, even I know that last cake was WAY overpriced. Pricing art comes from the cost of materials, time involved, and level of skill. $1K would have been a more reasonable price for that cake. For $3K I would expect the face to at least be smooth!! 🤣 The cake artist was fine, but they are charging way too much for sure.
my opinion too I've seen others pay anywhere between $850 to $1500 for cakes that were of superior quality. $3000 is just highway robbery to me
I suspect they thought the idea was ridiculous and overcharged (kinda like an inconvenience or irrational client fee) in order to get the potential client a reality check and/or go to another bakery
From watching laurie(theicingartist) do videos like this, I completely agree! She’s gotten huge 3D cakes with lights or moving components for prices like that!

Yeah...I would have expected a full body sized cake for that price, with less icing and more actual cake, and for it to look a bit more like her cuz it looked like a much older lady...

I think she was a bit ripped off with that 3rd one. :) I liked the middle version the best as well. But those little cake pops were actually very realistic too, in caroon'ish sort of way, and cheap, considering they were handmade, someone draw on the eyes and lips etc. The most expensive one would have maybe been worth the money, if the result would have been more similar to Mia. It was an much older woman in my opinion, and her features were not at all like Mia.

It do depend her picture and how their own settings is on their pc. If it look it shift in green it does.
Not going to lie, the last one made me kind of uncomfortable lol. The sweater looked amazing, but the cake didn't really resemble you and for $3000, it could have been a little more accurate. The second cake was definitely the best!

Have you ever made a realistic cake? lol. Or even drawn a realistic portrait?? It’s not easy. And although it didn’t look exactly like Mia, it was really well done. The eyes were a little wonky… but overall I thought they did a great job. Way better than I could ever do. Even if you paid me $3,000.
@@amelia_rose_333 It is most definitely no easy task to make a cake look like a person and, no, I couldn't do any better myself. For what it is, it's pretty decent. I just think $3000 is insanely expensive for it, especially since it doesn't look like her at all, not even the correct eye color. However, as I said, the sweater looks amazing. The detail is incredible and I give them respect for that.

The pops and #2 cake were absolutely amazing! I can appreciate the work that went into #3 but I think I'd be a little disappointed at the lack of likeness for $3,000.
I definitely see that the 3rd one took more work, and like the sweater is absolutely insanely well done on it. But I definitely love and prefer the 2nd cake the most as it's the most flattering, most beautiful art, and honestly the fact that they made the strawberry flavor with fresh strawberries is such a nice, elegant touch that I think that shop just went above and beyond for you
As an artist, I can say the person who painted you on number 2 knocked it out of the park! To think that was done on a cake 😯

The painted one is unreal. They have a true artist making those cakes
They may have an overhead projector.
They probably just printed an edible image and painted over it

As a cake maker, I really appreciate you talking about how much work goes into cakes like this and why they cost what they do. I'm constantly seeing people say cakes cost too much but they seriously take so much work. tysm
But it is work? So what if it takes work, you are at work so you work. Am I crazy? A lot of people have "so much work" to do at their job and get paid normal wages but somehow cake makers can double their salary just because 😂 That doesn't mean you should overcharge so much? Cakes are overpriced and you know it.
@@lauralanthalasa7 okay I’d agree that the $3000 one was completely overpriced. But most of the cakes I’ve purchased are about 100-200. You have to factor in how much the ingredients and materials cost, how much it costs to pay the employee per hour to make it, how much it costs to keep the building open (rent and utilities and whatnot) as well as the bakery to be able to make a profit. Not to mention the convenience for the customer. Make your own cakes if you want to but a lot of people would agree that cakes are often priced fairly

@@caty1213 Every employer has to factor things like that, not only bakers. They have to rent spaces, be it warehouses or studios, have to pay for materials, be it printers or flour, pay salaries (for people that also put years of learning into their job, just like cake decorators), benefits and they also have to make profit somehow. You just listed what a work is and that's my point. Bakers are no different than the rest. And most employers aren't multimillionaries, they are also relativly small institutions with handful of employees, not everyone work at amazon. The fact that there are a 3000$ or even a 1000$ cakes out there is ridiculous.
@@lauralanthalasa7 what I'm getting from you is that you don't value the creator's time. Regardless of cost of material, location, etc, that is a whole ass human who is dedicating their time and effort to something in detail. This takes practice, you're paying for the years of experience.
I'll equate a baker to a tattoo artist: "you pay for the experience, not for the time spent "

Comparatively, the people who made the cake pops slayed this. Like of course the other two are works of art but the level of detail and small sculpting for 4,50 dollars is crazy.
Also they where adorable. She looked like a little Charlie's Angel or Totally Spy, a pretty animated girl!

11:22 “If I do a quick take it looks like you” - I closed my eyes and then opened them super quickly and closed them again to try to do a “quick take” and was like “wow, it really DOES” until I realized Mia superimposed her actual face on the cake 😂😂😂

Strawberry cake Mia would have her own knit & crochet youtube channel, with soft music in the back & her just teaching us her craft in low tone, while her pet ducks play in a little fountain in the back.
Chocolate cake Mia is a guest judge in Drag Race, also ANTM, also a highly acclaimed chef & judge in British Bake Off.

The $350 cake is perfection! That is pure artistry on a cake. It’s hard to even draw a realistic portrait let alone paint it on a cake.

I agree. Cake 3 just so bad. I honestly think she’s just being nice for the video. I can’t imagine her actually liking that cake and thinking it was a fair price for what she got. Most videos she’s being very nice to the companies she’s reviewing so this bakery got off way easy. I’d be so mad it was my cake

Cake decorators aren’t phased by the short span of time their piece of work exists. They care more about the experience of the customer. The joy that their customers get from it gives them joy in return. 😊❤

The third one looks nothing like her other than the hair.
The 3rd one looked like a much older woman. I would say it looked closer in appearance to Madonna than to Mia. For $3000 you would expect the person is recognizable if not super similar. But that woman was not even in the realm of being similar to Mia.
The third one is a cartoon version of her, it was never going to look hyperrealistic 😭
@@Recyclable89 even for a cartoon version of mia its not great. the cake pops were cartoon style too and looked way more accurate to mia as a cartoon and were much cuter. the last cake looks like they tried to make it realistic and failed to do that so they just told mia it would look more like a cartoon version of herself.

The detail of all of them was amazing. But the details of the sweater on the second one? Just wow. It actually looks fuzzy!
All they do is use a roller with that pattern on it on fondant. They aren't very expensive and require minimal effort.

(ex. function of beauty, prose, etc) i’m not sure how it would be filmed since it would kind of be a trial to test them out, but i think that would be super fun and educational since ive always wondered how legit those products are and if they actually work

The painted one is so pretty! I miss doing decorations. Where I worked, we would use a projector to put the image on the cake and then trace and outline. Nothing that level of detail, though. If people wanted details, we had to use edible images because of time constraints. It would have been fun to actually spend more time making something like that.
