"Forced my friends to play DEAD ISLAND: RIPTIDE" more like you blessed your friends with the joy of playing Dead Island: Riptide.
As much as I love the series let’s hope dead island 2 isn’t a remake or dying light 2
I was literally on my way to the comment section to type a comment of this effect, but ill just like yours instead lol
Based, playing as John fucking Morgan was and still is the most badass way to kill zombies, that being with your own two hands! Nothing better than haymakering a zombie head off the body and sent flying through the air. It's basically playing Brick from Borderlands 1, but with zombies.
Both Dead Island games are unironicaly fucking awesome and I will die on this hill
I played it, it's not that fun tbh
Who Do You Voodoo is still a certified banger
Who Do You Voodoo is unironically the best thing about Dead Island next to the original trailer.
@@dksoulstice6040 gameplay is my favorite thing about the game.
Ppl thought that in the start of the original dead island in the hotel before you escape you can see the couple that tried saving the girl from the horde of zombies .. unfortunately this was untrue due to the way the room looked and the design of the dead couple from the trailer
Drink blood like a vampire Who do you voodoo bitch! I forgoy how awesome that song was when u first played dead island
I prefer no more room in hell
Sam B used to ask "Who do you voodoo?"
Now he just screams at you like your step dad to "open this damn door."
10 out of 10 character progression.
Get dis damn do open
The only difference between these games is dying light as hard-core parkour

I would like to watch a Zombie movie where its just the protagonists in a circle kicking zombies in the ribs.
Isn't that not just a large chunk of Shaun of the Dead?
In fact, Dead Island's fighting mechanics always reminded me a whole lot of the record throwing scene.
Or really any indie YT short of a zombie movie

All you really need to know about the first game's story is that at the end the characrers finally manage to escape the island they and the zombies are stuck on and for some reason decide to take with them a local islander who's excplicitly told to be infested and is going to turn into a zombie thus literally being the cause for the second zombie outbreak.
The island was already infected before Riptide took place. There was another research lab on that island too and it was the cause of this outbreak
@@beastminer147 Honestly I'll admit that it has been long enough and the story was so boring that it's possible that I've forgotten if that really was the case.
All I can remember is how angry I was at the end of Dead Island when the characters decide to take the woman they KNEW to be infected with them off the island.
the guy who they took with them on the helicopter was not infected, he was a prisoner at the high security prison who helped them get to the heli pad, but he was not infected/bitten. He wasn't immune from the virus like the main characters are, but he wasn't infected. Not sure how you came up with that, but its not accurate at all.
@@Faded______ At the end the crew takes with them Kevin (the male prisoner) and Yerema (the native woman). Yerema is immune to the virus but has it inside her blood and is a carrier.
@@Faded______ the Kevin guy is also a terrorist, and it’s implied in the ending that he’s planning on doing some biological attack shit
This isnt really a sequel. Its more of a DLC for the first game that was made into a separate game. It literally treats you as if it was a DLC too, being able to bring over your previous character from Dead Island and immediately throws you into what Dead Island eased you into
That's honestly a pretty fair assessment lol.
9:59 This is genuinely what I see if I can manage to open my eyes underwater. Very accurate.
Underwear
I know it's accurate AF lol
Depends on the water.

This may just be nostalgia taking over but I genuinely had an awesome time playing both dead island and riptide. And still go back now and then to do a play through and still enjoy both games. I find the dialogue delivery kinda hilarious too but that might just be me
Not nostalgia. I played both within the last 2 years and both hold up well today.
@@btnhstillfire yup dd a playthrough o both with some buddies, yea the game s kind of trash but in a really good way 😂😂
There really aren’t that many games like this. I think this is closer to Borderlands and Far Cry than anything.
@@btnhstillfire I just bought it for Xbox series x and I love it still.
The gameplay is GOOD, everything else bad
This game is actually kind of difficult if you start a fresh character, because the suicide zombies and bloaters are in game from the start, they changed the way the thug zombies react to being hit so they don't stagger as much, and they added fuck tons of biter zombies.
Difficult? Try dying light lmao
@@TokyoFury I did, I died less playing dying light in the same amount of time that I played riptide.
Heights killed me more then zombies in Dying Light
Dying light is more rookie friendly. Parkour is just so good for getting out of trouble. You won't stuck in the fxxking corner ang got gang banged.
@@Nyghtking Same. Both dying light's to me were just bloated games, with storylines and gameplay that could have ended at 30-35 hours, but were instead stretched until 65. The first was much better than the second tho, Ill at least go back to Dying Light still, I don't see going back to DL2 unless it's watching my girlfriend play it for the first time...
Dead Island Riptide is a lot harder to jump straight into if you didn't play Dead Island first.
In Dead Island, the game incrementally introduces new zombie types throughout the Acts. In Riptide, the game throws pretty much all of them at you within a few hours.
And the game in general has higher density of enemies almost constantly whereas in Dead Island, they took it easy on you in the Resort and some sections of town. Plus the tower defense sections which don't exist in Dead Island.
both dead islands were pretty good time passers. fun as hell back in the day when ya didn't always have a internet connection
i actually played Dead Island Riptide first before I recently tackled Dead Island 1 Definitive Edition just recently with my friend which we didn't even finish. DIR felt amazing to play back then, it had plenty of players suddenly joining you but you end up with an asshole that throw molotovs at you 1 in 5 times tho.
@@hestiashearth478 I still play the original Dead Island. Even 11 years later, I can find random people to play with every time I boot up the game.
Granted most of these randos are raggers who just try to get you killed but.....eh. Not all of them lol.
"Tower defense"
I believe you mean Techland's ™ patented SURVIVOR SIEGE™ segments.
Yeah I played riptide over and over again back when it came out. Recently started replaying them with a friend. I had played the first one before but going through them in order again with a friend I’m remembering just how bad riptide was
The best thing about Dead Island is the deflating zombie fart noise, never fails to crack me up.
20:40
I'm surprised I'm the first to agree. Hilarious sound effects, realistic though they may be.
I fondly remember the original dead island. Once I realized I could dupe items by dropping and throwing at the same time the game stopped being horrible and started being really fun.
That was FO:NV for me, I made a new character and found a wiki page of where a sniper was, it was on the outskirts of new Vegas and it was a beast, I started using the wiki to find cool shit and make better and better builds, and the leveling up skills made the game really fun
I remember playing Dead Island on 360 on release. Fun game but it was so buggy! Day 1 that game ran on string and faith. Random save corruptions, crashes, cutscenes taking place in the void, a final boss so easy me and my friends kicked him to death and an escort quest where the person ragdolled and just rolled down a cliff like a seal.
Still enjoyed it. 10/10.
The last part would be funny as fuck to watch
Make them play the Dead Island 2 when it comes out
That's the plan!
First we gotta see if it sucks first
@@hellomikie92 exactly
@@hellomikie92 don't jinx it
why do you think he forced them to play this in the exact time when dead island 2 is coming out?
4:46 "There's an infection. Some sort of plague."
*Manhandles the protagonist and inches centimeters into their face to speak*
Kevin blowing himself up with a grenade while drunk made me think. Games with drunk mechanics should really do more than floompy vision. Like double vision. Or when you throw a grenade it looks like you did good, but then it blows up way off from where it looked like it went, or cuts to an animation of it actually being at your feet before you die. Some games do the random puking, but they could do more.
"Did decently well" Bruh, I hold Dead Island to such a high regard as a zombie game that no other game has lived up to it yet.
Guess you've never played dying light. Left 4 dead 1/2. Dead rising (all entrys). Or Dead space.

Probably some of the best ragdoll physics at the time but damn was the story a drag. If anybody decides to play this game, remember that the game is NOT on your side and cheese is not optional, it's needed.
There was a game called Freedom Fighters for the gamecube that i feel like had rag doll physics beyond it’s time
@Cash gun For real, "Deodorant + Duct Tape + Glue = (Cheap) Grenade".
i remember how you could not take a hit.
If a Zombie had an item in hand and threw it, you could not doge it (likely you also didnt see the Z in the first placce) and it was a guaranteed one hit kill, because they did damage based on the weapon it threw, which likely was much higher than your life.
Dodging was impossible due to some sort of lag and or to small movements/exhaustion.
Knockback was compleley random and never worked, unless you threw your weapon.
Guns were unusable due to the level scaling making them do no damage (ir was that just in the first one, where headshotting a human was an instant kill but Zs took like 30 bullets?)
The ultimate of the blunt weapon user were his knuckels and the one of the fist user was a stick, which just made no sense.
Throwables were useless in higher levels.
And so much more
@@frankwest5388 Guns were useful against living enemies since headshots dealt loads of dmg. I do agree that the scaling on items was incredibly annoying since you'd have to get new weapons due to low dmg rather than low durability.
To be honest in my teens, I remember my older bro had Dead Island on his 360, I kept dying at the very beginning in that hallway where someone yells to you. Didn’t find out until years later you were supposed to turn around because the zombies kept killing the character every time, yeah I felt so dumb. Any way Dead Island sure is a game of all time.
That’s cause your mum dropped you on your head when you were born and again at 5 years of age. Then daddy used the belt too many times. And sister is the all time.
It was Charon, not someone
As a teen? Sheesh not the brightest.
I remember playing this game for the first time as a little kid and as soon as those zombies popped up in the hallway I panicked and ran, didn’t even notice the guy telling me to run.
While I admire your past determination to fight them head on, I gotta hand you the L for not learning from your first couple of deaths
@@gucciguy3408 I did the same thing as a teen. Keep in mind I also discovered on my own extremely broken exploits that gave me infinite items, health and out of bounds glitching.
Dead Island is still one of my favorite games of all time just for nostalgia
Honestly no nostalgia involved. They are still really good zombie survival games.
You know, looking back, I have wonder how any Sam B players out there who put points in to the bullet resistance skill because of how insanely lethal human enemies could be in the game's initial release felt when they realized they'd been almost entirely removed in Riptide.
28:40 you guys used the force to have the girl open the door for you😂😂

Fun art fact, the reason the eyes look horrible and terrifying is because you can see the top of the iris, commonly the top of the iris is hidden by the upper lid. The upper lid is commonly raised to express shock or to go “bug eyed” and if the eyes are stuck like this they become uncanny.
I still haven't figured out why dead island is so hated, when I played it I loved the game
It's just pretty jank at the beginning, which most people didn't play past. Also with dying light being a thing there's just no good reason to play it now
I only hated it because it routinely threw me into random parts of the story after I died and I would be under leveled for the area. :(
@@juiceboxbzrk I prefer dead island over dying light.
I remember liking it exploring the resort always made me feel this since of calm and terror. The town and forest were in my opinion the low points exploring them wasn't fun. I don't remember the prison other then that final boss being really not that challenging in my solo play.

Plenty of reason to play the game still.
Literally bought this and the original for like... $5. They were bundled together and on sale not too long ago and thought... Why not?
Now I know what to look forward to.

Same, it was on Steam. Still looks gorgeous and you dont have to have a 2000 dollar pc to run it!
Welp prepare for psycopathic spinning doors around safehub 2
This takes me back. I used to watch my dad play the first dead island because I was young and way too scared to play by myself.
I remember this game very well, I platinum it in September of this year and it was a nightmare.
A friend of mine, who had already played the whole series, convinced me to buy it since it was discounted at a ridiculous price. After about 2/3 days I start having headaches due to the motion blur of the game (especially when climbing the rock walls through roots) and the visual all busted. After about 2 weeks we finished the game and I got angry, because I told my friend to wait before seeing the last cut scene, so that I could get all the missing trophies but nothing, he convinced me to watch it anyway and, according to him, “even after the last cutscene you can still go back to the last checkpoint”. So eventually I found myself, alone, having to do everything I play AGAIN. I was so frustrated that about a year later I convinced my friend to play together again because he had tricked me; after less than 1 week he decided to abandon me again and it was again just myself and Xian wandering around that damned island. Luckily I finished the game but first I had to deal with a thousand bugs regarding bugged collectibles
That Katy b on a mission reference was so good it didn’t go unnoticed
The timing of this kev, been replaying riptide the last month or so on and off

I really enjoy the videos Kevin makes with his friends.
Dead island 100% changed the game for zombie games, and was super fun, and ended up giving birth to one of the best zombie games ever ( dying light ) and idk how people hated it so much… many people grew up on the game and it was amazing, and me and my entire friend group have played it on every platform, and still do to this day… also for “so many things to hate” and “not being a good game” everyone has played it, and everyone talks about it to this day so.
i loved it but it was kinda generic and janky af, and the blur when you run jesus
I loved it classic zombie fun
Yeah the story be kinda meh and the games are glitchy, those glitches can be very funny as shit sometimes and don’t really effect the gameplay much.
The gameplay is just fun for obvious reasons, if you got the mindset of a Neanderthal like me, you’ll like the violent dismemberment stuff.
It's like old kung fu movies who are kinda bad but actually not they are not to serious and simply entertaining
Finally, Somebody that recognizes Super Mario Sunshine as a Zombie Apocalypse.
i appreciate you putting the Giles Lamb theme in at the start. I legit like the song even if the trailer was a bit of a lie in terms of tone.
Used to play this as a kid.
Ayy nice. John is the go to character in this game for sure. Kick only playthrough at that point
Riptide is a prefectly fine game.
The game is more like one big expansion to the original game.
@@Soulweaver0 And was it good? Yes to me it was
I love that Kev has moved on to other games, but still wears his Valkyn Skoria helmet.
The problem with Dead Island was the vast disconnect with the trailer, the trailers paint it as some dark and seriously morbid, depressing story..
And then the game was beating zombies with car batteries and pool toys.
Great Video as always! I thought one of the best parts of the First game and DLC, was using the right stick to swing your weapons left, right, up, down, and I believe you do more damage that way too. ehh, anyways, I'm am excited for the 2nd game to come out.

Jank but a surprisingly good melee game. Can be pretty difficult playing solo. Also propane tanks can be blown up by throwing weapons.
I loved dead island and can’t wait for part 2. I have yet to play riptide and just seeing many of the npc characters eyes and faces says, I need this game in my life.
“Who’s the money going to?”

i'm so happy kev referenced new world aha... hopefully he tries out the new update when it drops. thanks for bringing back some nostalgia with the dead island games, etc!
A zombie killing game doesnt need a story, it just needs zombie killing. It can be goofy.
Hell i remember the first time i played the first game with one of my friends. The scene that i remember most is the first ripper encounter. Im poking fun of it calling it a predator look alike and the such. Im playing the throwing expert, and tell him to wait after the cutscene, of course he asked why? Right. Patience. The ripper starts running through the alley way, i ready some basic blunt weapon, it gets a little bit closer. I toss this weapon, straight in the head... it collapses. Not dead, my friend not missing a beat throws his weapon, as soon as it gets back up. Then we run up and beat it to death, fun times.
hope they still got these vibes in 2 cuz thats what made this game

crazy as hell i loved the dead island games
Played both and honestly i didn't find them that bad, yea sure the story was kinda uninteresting and some of the character were kinda generic but i loved the whole tropical island vibe and the fact each character had specialised skills made the game pretty enjoyable. The weapon variety in melee weapons was decent but the firearm ones was severely lacking i just wish the new upcoming game improved upon all these aspects but overall a pretty fun experience nonetheless
Not gonna lie. If dying light didn't come out this was gonna be the best zombie game in the gaming history. When i was a teenager i played dead island first than played mirror's edge. Than thought to myself. "Man if only there was a game combine this 2 games, damn.. that would be awesome". After that they announced dying light. I remember the times trying to play dying light like 15 20 fps. i was searching the whole youtube for fps boost :p good times.. good times.. oh and yeah, when i played left 4 dead for the first time (that was my first zombie game) i was so scared i asked my grandma to sleep with her. she said "You wanna sleep with me because of that game isn't it ?" I was too embarrassed to tell her the truth. I miis my granma so f*cking much... respect and love your elders, when they gone they gone..

I think everyone can agree that both dead islands stories was horrendous but the gameplay is awesome
We never did find out why that island was so dead
Three Sam B's make me hear "who do you voodoo." So much more then I regularly hear it in my mind
No spoilers
As an avid player of the first game (preordered and played since launch) the second one came about due to fans reactions to the ending of that first game. There were so many loose ends left untied that fans complained about back then, even after the Ryder white DLC, that the devs released the second game as more of a fan service to finish off the story. It explains the immunity of the playable survivors to the infection, and goes over key story points from the first game to tie them off. You could carry over your original save and everything which opened up more dialog related to some actions in the first game that took place in side quests. Riptide is terrible as a stand-alone game, but if you view it as a “big DLC” like Witcher 3’s blood and wine DLC it makes way more sense and brings more appreciation to it. The very end credit scene also sets up the long awaited dead island 2 and adds a lot of context as to why the virus spread to the mainland like it did. The first game was revolutionary in the sense that it introduced a new wave of players to the zombie hack and slash RPG setting, and paved the way for games like dying light and even the new DOOM games in some sense.
All I can say is that when my friend in high-school asked if I played and beat Riptide, my immediate response was "I wish I hadnt"
That ending. Perfection.
My God the nostalgia I love it
I remember how getting Co Op to work was like winning the jackpot. Especially with 3 people
I love how you have the Valkyn Skoria Helmet on.
The first part is way better for start than the Riptide. It's a clunky mess but really fun in co-op
Dead Island is perhaps one of my top video game franchises. Yes Riptide feels more like a large DLC for the first game but fact is the game itself is still fun. The wonky physics can cause laughs and the atmosphere in Dead Island 1 is *just* unnerving enough where it doesn't feel like it's *trying* to be a horror game. Additionally, it's one of the only games to actually use a proper skill tree system ala Borderlands and Skyrim, which as a fan of RPG's I'm a big, well, fan of. It's not perfect of course, and it's spinoff games have been a little... flat, but with Dead Island 2 recently given a release date I can't help but feel a little nostalgic to go back to perhaps my favorite zombie universe.
that cutscene with the like berserker zombie in riptide kept me awake as a kid
