  • In this video, I am riding to Creel, which is right at the edge of the Copper Canyon, worlds second largest canyon. I am trying to cross over to the coast so I can take the ferry to Baja California, but to get there, I have to ride through Chihuahua and Sinaloa, two notorious states in Mexico.

''Tan cool '' 😄 Spoken like a native almost , on the cool spring ride into Creel along the back way . Great stuff . The Copper Canyon considered properly as the system of canyons which it is , is actually more extensive than the Grand Canyon system of the USA .The paved road at the Guachochi intersection passed within 13km of the southern branch Sinforosa canyon and the highway at the Urique River and at other points towards Creel is actually down within a section of " canyon" . The greatest difference is that the Mexican Copper Canyons region receives more rain than the Grand Canyon and is therefor is much more vegetated and green in summer's "monsoon season ".

It's the area about where you were at, it's called the "Golden Triangle" because the states of Chihuahua, Durango and Sinaloa meet... Also home to Sinaloa Cartel and El Chapo... For incredible as it may sound, you are NOT likely to be mugged or kidnapped, the cartel prohibits these kind of activities and, in fact, it sanctions (punish) them. You are safer on these roads as you had ever been since you crossed Mexico's south border. My concern was you trying to cross through Caborca, Sonora but Baja was a smart choice. May God be with you all the way to Alaska.

I appreciate your insight, but I’m confused by the graffiti on that abandoned building by the road: deragotory drawings of four naked women with a man pointing a rifle at one woman, and the word “Sinaloa”. I understand that deragotory graffiti do not represent the hearts and minds of most inhabitants of a particular area, but such graffiti would indicate that acts of violence are not off limits, cartel or not. I’m glad Noraly is long gone from that area by now, and also hope for the best for the kind and people beautiful of Mexico.

As you know, tracks made in the desert do not go away for at least a century. The delicate soil surface crust is held together by microscopic blue green algae assemblages (called cryptogramic crust), which (over time) add nitrogen to the soil, making it capable of supporting plant life. The few species of plants that live in remote deserts survive under conditions that would kill most plants and often involve symbiotic relationships between species that evolve over time. So...new tracks made in the desert can be destructive for the environment and it's a good idea to try to stick to already existing tracks. I have also loved being in remote places and really enjoy your adventures....thanks for sharing them!

It has been reported elsewhere on internet that last week ( between 19 and 25 June 2022 ) she was getting maintenance work done on her bike in Central British Columbia, Canada . The current video deals with her earlier passage through Creel and the Copper Canyon region of Mexico . Knowledge of this time lag should be of value to viewers who have an interest in Mexico .It makes more clear the reason why a video aired in late June ( or when seen in any later months and years) shows the CC area and other parts of northern Mexico with drab dry grass, no flowers and cool dry weather conditions which are all typical of late winter/early spring . At this time of year , late June , it is in that high country of Chihuahua actually mild to warm and regular periods of daily rain with thunderstorms are normal ..

The "Caballo Blanco" that the family in the cave mentioned was an American barefoot ultrarunner, Micah True, featured in the book, "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougall, who reasearched the Tarahumara runners and showcased their incredible endurance and running ability in simple huarache sandals. Micah True lived for a time among the Tarahumara in Copper Canyon, and was beloved by them and became a mythic figure in the ultrarunning world, not for his speed but for his simple life philosophy. He organized ultraruns in Copper Canyon and invited some of the greatest ultrarunners in the world to come and compete against the Tarahumara. He passed away in 2012 on a run in the Gila Wilderness in New Mexico.

I got to visit Copper Canyon in the 1980’s. Only way in was by train. We spent the night on the edge of the canyon in a very rustic lodge and the Tarahumara sold handmade goods at the railroad stop. They put on a demonstration of their skills by running barefoot kicking a rock racing down the edge of the canyon. The women would wear traditional costumes consisting of multi layered skirts. The lived in caves during the summer around the canyon rim and migrated down to the bottom during the winter. They refused to become assimilated into the Mexican culture. Somehow one of the Tarahumara women somehow got to Kansas and was put in a Topeka mental institution as no one could understand her until someone discovered and she was taken back to the canyon. Amazing memories of my time in Chihuahua Mexico.

Just amazing, taking a world tour with my own tour guide (btw, who does all the work!)…. All her videos are breathtaking… and ending her video at a hotel, reassures my fear for her safety… ride -on….

You are very wise to avoid the dangerous areas in the northern part of Mexico. Taking the Baja route to the USA is a good decision. The rock formations were very interesting as was the visit to the cave dwelling. Looking forward to the next video as you travel through Copper Canyon. Take care.

It is so sad that whole nations get judged by the actions of some group of outlaws. Thanks to Noraly the world can see the real people who live in these nations. Where good and kindness live in the hearts of most folks. I can see it the smiles of those who open the doors to let Noraly enter their homes. Their eyes shine with true joy and innocence. They do not have anything to hide.

"some group of outlaws"? the entire country is divided into 9 major cartels and hundreds of small ones.
"I can see the smiles of those who open the doors" - some of the top sicarios/hitmen were/are farmers with wives and children. When not chopping limbs they are with their family and will open the door for you with smiles.
Just last week they mentioned on the news channel that there a 100 homicides a day in Mexico; 1 hombre dead every 17 minutes.

I grew up in this parts of Mexico..... Most of this people will take of their shirt of their back for you and feed you also if ur in need.
But other countries like to paint Mexico like some vicious war thorn country where everybody is out to get u.

Noraly, they walk on the railway because save a lot of distance (railway goes straight on) and the unpaved trail is plenty of curves.
That is normal over the world.
    Have a nice trip....!

Awesome channel. Your trip to the Copper Canyon has got me googling which are the largest canyons in the World and it seems there are many claims in many countries. Widest, longest and deepest claims seem to confuse the ranking of the canyons for 1st place. I learned that the Capertee Canyon in my country Australia was the widest and makes claim to be 2nd largest canyon on Earth. My searches however have revealed the Yarlung Zangbo Canyon in China to have a valid claim for the #1 spot, mostly because of its incredible depth of 5300m. With so many countries making claims for a place on the podium for the Big Canyon Olympics I'll guess I'll just sit back, watch you traverse the World and say "wow, that's another big canyon"✋😲🤚

I’m an Aussie, never heard of this Canyon, but they don’t teach any thing good in schools these days, or too far back in the past for that matter. Hardly any good documentaries on our beautiful Australia today, the idiot box is just that.
And of course China would say they have #1 Canyon! Isn’t noraly remarkable..
