My husband is a reseller and what people also don’t like to hear about is that your time is valuable. It is much better to purchase items with a higher profit margin. We don’t want to spend all day listing and packing and printing labels for items with a two dollar profit margin. It is much more efficient if you can sell fewer items at a higher profit. ❤✌🏼
Michael it is still beneficial to resellers to see what you DON'T pick up. You are so right about skipping the items that are more work than it is worth. That's a hard No on all clowns.
Michael, I love your honesty about not buying “damaged goods,” and not finding treasures sometimes @ Goodwill. It happens! Thank you for being REAL! 😉❤️
Michael, honesty and reality are one of the reasons I enjoy your content. I agree with what you said about Goodwill not being able to put out "good stuff", if no one has donated quality items. It really makes it challenging on you and others to find items for resale. And thrift stores and antique malls can be the same. I shop, don't resell, but often walk away empty handed.
You never know what you will find in Goodwill or anywhere else. You go where you want. I love all of your videos, anywhere you go. Especially when Richard is with you. ❤️
I'm getting vibes of who you might be referring to in your opening and I absolutely agree with you. Amount of viewers doesn't buy class or integrity! 🙂
I work for an estate sale company in California. Clear glass does not sell. We call it “the table that does not sell.” We used to put it in front of a window so that the glass would shine. We don’t do that anymore. Some of it is so pretty, but no one wants it.
There are some days I walk out with multiple bags and some where I buy 1 thing. We have 20+ Goodwills plus other thrift and antique stores, so there no lack of product. Lavender Clothesline lives somewhere in Penn. and her thrift stores are 🔥. Just depends on where you're at.
Thanks for showing a video were you didn't find a thing in either thrift store. A few of the picker's I watch find loads of items everytime they go out. I just went on a two day hunt for stuff to sell {antique shops and thrift stores} in Chattanooga Tn. I shopped all day on both days and ended coming home with a handful of things. Prices are getting higher at the antique stores and the thrift stores are selling "junk". Forget Goodwill stores here altogether. Well, I just have to pull up my big girl pants and continue the hunt.
Wow that book is a real corset buster! The kind of thing you read when hubs is at work! I have a friend who finds autographed books at Goodwill. It's pretty much all she sells. But it takes so much time going through the books! She is there for hours! And I don't think that time factors in to reselling enough.
I think that lying down Santa was a jar candle (ie Yankee Candle) holder. Love your videos, all of them. Never never a waste of time, always learn something. At the very least I enjoy your company and humor. Thank you Michael 🗯💓
Thank you for being honest with your videos. We know they all can't be wonderful finds; in reality, there are plenty of negative days when you find nothing. 😂thanks for keeping it real. ❤
Michael, don’t you change a thing! Your integrity is part of your charm and I love your fun video filming. Some folks forget that resellers (content creators) have to pay their bills just like the rest of us. You go man! ❤❤❤
You were right the best find of the day was you. It's always fun to see a video from you. I simply Love your sense of humor you can always make me laugh. And I thank you for that . God Bless. Bye Michael.
I remember having Childcraft! I especially liked the one with nursery rhymes and stories, and the one about music. We had a version from the early 60s - no color photographs. (I liked the unicorn book…I would have bought it for my daughter, who loved anything unicorn as a child, and publishes fantasy novels as an adult.)
I would recommend going a bit after the store opens. Usually the person doing wares is done with a new cart after 20 minutes. I have a HUGE amount of inventory. I've been collecting for years because I plan on becoming a reseller right after i move. It really is becoming harder to find things for a big enough profit. A few years back you could find things worth flipping that cost a lot less. Not the case so much anymore.
As a full time reseller since the late 1980's, I have learned that you have to make a choice. You can either sell items that net you at least $30 profit or you can sell a ton of small profit items. I personally chose to sell mostly higher profit items which gives me a lower cost of goods sold. You will not be able to sustain selling lower profit items unless you have a lot of help to handle the higher processing costs that comes with a high volume of sales. I see too many resellers spending the day at the Goodwill bins and not adding in their labor hours to do so. Also remember that if you are self employed, you need to be able to pay into whatever retirement plan you have set up. Social Security only provides a small portion of what you will need to pay your bills when you retire. I am sorry if I sound so negative but few people are actually successful at being a reseller so consider keeping your day job as back up. I know Michael can attest to how many hours he has worked every day to become the successful reseller he is.
Christine, thank you. Thank you for taking the time to put such a well thought out comment. It was not negative, but honest! I can not begin to tell you how much I appreciate your comment!
Omg I had that set of 13 books when I was a child in the 70's. I forgot all about them until now. I loved them so much ❤ I think you need some chocolate covered coffee beans with your iced coffee... then set you loose in Goodwill. Omg, that would be so fun to watch 😂😅😮😂😂😅
I have to say, that Santa lying on his stomach was very weird. There is supposed to be a coffee mug resting in that hollow of his back…so when in use it would look like you saw a little Santa running across your desk and squashed him with your mug.🖤🇨🇦
That’s why I like you, Michael. You keep it real. I’ve been watching you since your day 1 video. I cringe when I hear resellers say, “This sells really well in eBay”. Then, I use Terapeak to find out how well. There’s 10K of that item and the sell thru rate is like 9%. So no…I don’t think so. 😂
Thank you for explaining how you go about buying for reselling. I have often wondered the profit margin after driving/time sourcing/time posting on ebay/fees/live sales/shipping and handling. So interesting. Even though I don’t buy I follow, like, and subscribe.
Michael! Your laugh!! It just brings happiness to my heart! Every single time. Thank you for always being true and honest. It would be sad if RUclips led people to believe every trip is a treasure trove because it would be so disappointing to first timers. It’s a hunt and I am thankful you are so up front about the business. I’ve gone and found nothing so many times I’ve lost count. But….a few times I’ve left with stellar items! You never know. That what keeps us coming back, right? Big hugs to you and Richard. I see my goodwills aren’t the only ones with wishful thinking pricing. 😯
GAH! I never thought I'd be stopped in my tracks by seeing my china in a Goodwill! Wedgwood Rosedale @4:55 I wonder how much of it was there...a pattern from the 80's-90's, gad I must be getting old, lol.
The Goodwill where i shop hasn't been getting very much good stuff. Their knickknacks & vases are coming in from China mostly. I believe it's either when someone dies or someone who just decides to change their decor brings in the piles of great stuff. I think it's becoming harder to find the good stuff because there's now so much from China that the market is saturated.
I thought they were made that way. The idea being that you dip the gravy out with a gravy spoon (ladle?) and the underplate catches the drips. Attaching it makes it safer and easier to pass at the table.
Many of them were evidently purposely "fired together" in the pottery kiln. It seems to have also been popular with some cup and saucer sets, back in the 1960s-1970s. Especially on items from Japan. I've seen quite a few over the years.
I stopped going to the Goodwill store in my area because so many things are broken or chipped and clothes are dirty/stained . On top of that the prices are way too high😮. I agree that going to antique stores is way better quality overall 😊

I appreciate the breakdown that you gave about reselling costs, as someone contemplating getting into the business as a part time gig. I feel like you don’t need to apologize for being realistic and honest. Sure, finding treasures is the fun part, but if you only show that, it makes the rest of us wonder why we don’t find gold every time. Thanks for keeping it real, Michael! 🫶
Well, that goes to show you that regardless how big or packed a Goodwill is- that there isn’t necessarily anything worthy to buy🤷♀️. I was surprised that GW having jewelry. I haven’t seen jewelry in any of our local Goodwills in quite some time. I’m personally disappointed with their pricing as of late and I’m not even a reseller. They should realize that people on limited incomes still need to shop at a thrift store- thus the name. Guess they’re out to make a big ole profit like everybody else.I still go and find some treasures, sometimes nothin! It’s all about the hunt for me but as a reseller- your time and effort has value too sourcing all that stuff so I get where you’re coming from!👍
I was born in Cambridge MD. Mary Harris here, been living in Philly since I left there in the 70s, but I visit a couple times a year. Nice to meet u here ❤

I like watching you shopping, even if you don't buy anything. I did like the unicorn book. ❣️🦄
Yep it is not always a great day sourcing. It has dried up around here too. I think it is just the time of year. I am in south central Ohio.
The antique malls have very little turn-over, too. I think folls wait for that "spring cleaning"
I like watching your videos if you buy something or not!

So true, WHYN do people glue the gravy boats on the plate!!!!GRRRR. I have come across so many myself.
I thought that most gravy boats come attached.

Agreed! So much more interesting curated stuff- and quite often less expensive than the thrift stores.

❤😊love caffienated Michael and all videos! Thanks😊
A Goodwill employee once told me that February is their worst month for donations.
It's difficult in the antique malls, too! I am just trying to be optimistic about that "spring cleaning" season!
Love your integrity. Much more fun when you're caffeinated 😂
I'm tired of not finding much at Goodwill! I haven't been there in weeks. A bunch of junk in South Texas. 😂

I hope it wasn't the coffee Michael and you are welcome. I never find anything at the Goodwill in my area either.
The coffee was the best part for me! Thank YOU, Juli! ❤
You are right Michael. Why would you want to pickup things at the goodwill if they are not your vibe, or a high price.
The lay down Santa is for a candle , was a good find hes unusual,
Michael I have to say you can count. This is what I should also do more consequently.
Bowl comes on the plate. It's a gravy bowl.❤

Goodwill thinks everyone shops at their stores are resellers - over priced for discarded, donated items.
Cut back on the caffeine Michael , your camera is moving quick we’re flying around. Lol…..
I'll have to put warnings at the beginning...dramamine, seatbelts, and keep those hands inside the cart! 🤣
