You've got me intrigued by the Universal Monsters stuff and Falling in Love on the Path to Hell...still need to check out the Ghost Machine stuff. I'll have to come back to the Moon is Following Us section since I'm behind, still only read the first issue. But, glad to hear Void Rivals is keeping your interest on a monthly basis! I think you're spot on, it's a great complement to the other series with how different its tone and pacing is.
@@Moonbase3 If Moon didn’t grab you after issue 1, I think it will after issue 2. DWJ even referred to issue 2 as issue 1a. The full scope of the concept isn’t quite clear until you read the first 2. I thought issue 1 was fun and then issue 2 made me go “ohhhhhhhh” and I was fully hooked! As you can tell I think highly of the Frankenstein series. Dracula & The Creature From The Black Lagoon series were both enjoyable, but Frankie was a standout for me! I think it’s really impressive that with the Energon Universe and these now three main titles…we are getting a varied, diverse & full story. Three issues a month is not a big ask when DC is doing weekly and multiple Superman books & when isn’t there a new Batman related issue (or 3) on the new release shelf? What we are getting in return in the EU is definitely worth the price of admission!!
I wasn't sure about Rocketfellers, but I enjoyed it. Honestly, the story could have been complete crap and Manipaul's art would have carried it, though. Hyde Street has me intrigued and feels like they're going for an almost Tales from the Crypt type vibe which I'm enjoying. As far as Geiger and Rook: Exodus, both are highly recommended. Rook is a really fun sci-fi book and Geiger is kind of the core of the shared universe that they are building which so far includes Redcoat and Junkyard Joe. Geiger v1 is out (the six issue mini as you mentioned) and Junkyard Joe (also a six issue mini) just dropped last week (waiting for my copy).
It didn’t immediately floor me, but reflecting a bit on it and what the Family Odyssey concept is all about, I appreciated Rocketfellers a bit more. It’s beautiful for sure and that carries it for the most part. Definitely looking forward to the next issue! I’ve been dragging my feet about going all in on the Ghost Machine stuff but I haven’t been disappointed yet so that means I should support them as much as I can! Looking forward to getting up to speed on the other titles soon!

Thanks for another great bunch of reviews, Carl. Nice job! Let me know your thoughts on breaking up your first episode into chapters! The Knights vs Samurai art doesn't do much for me, but I really like the cover! Regarding the Universal Monsters, I find it extremely disappointing to see that the art is very underwhelming and I would stay away just based on that alone. You would think in trying to revive Universal Monsters in comic book format, that they'd treat the project like it's a really big deal, and get much better artists whose styles are far more complimentary to the subject matter.
I figured i had a lot of issues to talk about that it really did make sense for me to finally take the time to break things up. The Knights vs Samurai art is quite uneven, but I’ve committed to seeing the first arc through before deciding to stay in or dump it. This issue bought the series some time and I’m curious to see where it’s going. The response to Dracula & Frankenstein has been pretty strong, but they do seem to be flying under the radar more than I’d personally like them to be. The art isn’t what I’d expect on a Frankenstein book but I honestly really dig that about the approach. Walsh has a strong grasp on horror and the art does convey the sadness of the whole story. I also love the approach with the colors. Unexpected but the tone and feel of the original movie still comes through!
My favorite weekly comics recap show returns! On the swordplay in The Autumn Kingdom, I agree it felt like a pretty abrupt change to begin the issue, but I chalk that up to the nature of the sword. When there's danger around, the sword doesn't just get light, it leads the girls. The sword is the real fighter, they're just there to hold it. That's at least how I read it, excited to see what happens with the setting change that's coming in issue 4
See, this is why I need your expert analysis! I’m just random tired dad dude reading comics & not always processing them right away. I was definitely getting the vibe that some type of power source was coming from the sword itself. Just couldn’t pin point if it was something specific to the girls or if the sword is naturally tuned to fighting these forces. Either way, I know I’m enjoying the story and will absolutely enjoy it even more once I can read them all in a row! I always benefit from multiple read throughs!
@CarlsCollection Hey, you're not the only tired Dad reading Autumn Kingdom. I feel like Tired Dads is the core audience for both that and Moon is Following Us
@bunkmastab Both have been wonderfully effective in going for the emotional gut punches. The Autumn Kingdom doesn’t quite go for the jugular like Moon, but what’s nice in that series is it’s just wonderful to see the daughters fighting FOR their parents. Seeing the parental love manifested in that way is quite rewarding.
The Moon is Following Us has the most heart. You can tell the creators have kids of their own and are writing / drawing this for them to read someday.
Very much so, a love letter to them about their parental love.
