    The part that gets me is not giving the card back. Similar to US Customs by confiscating anything at any time. Plus the part of fair market value. I'm sure Franks daughter who is a lawyer can find case study of deceptive practices. That is market manipulation. Could we choose what date a cards value is and send it in to PSA not to be uncharged?... and Frank has been a long time customer! This has me fuming!

      well the over demand for grading is in large part responsible for the degradation of quality grading.The number of almost common cards sent to PSA by the new gen of flippers is clogging the process.Flippers are to blame for the lack of employee or the lack of experienced employee in the grading business.
      And of course the more people are getting involved,the more chances you get some bad apples in the mix scamming their way through the hobby.

    Technically PSA agreed to the insured value as soon as they opened the slab. If they had a disagreement, they should have stated it before the slab was opened. Also pursue criminal fraud charges on them and they will have to bring the card to court or be charged with destruction of evidence. They'll end up just paying you to avoid the publicity. There is no way they'll win since they authenticated it in the first place.

    • @SportCardMadness

      It isn't "initially" his fault, but a month after selling Frank this card the seller KNEW it was counterfeit and did not tell Frank (too long of a story to type it all here). Frank didn't find out for months. Still not necessarily fraud, but just poor form. Further, he has continued to sell counterfeit cards and has even tried to do additional deals with Frank. That is what I have a problem with. Well, that and him not feeling bad at all for Frank - esp given he wants to do future biz with him.

    I'm new to grading, so I looked online to look at pics of psa 10 cards. I sent a 1986 topps Ryne Sandberg in. They gave my card a grade 7. I was pissed. The 86 topps have the black border. The centering on my card was just as good as the 10. My had no whitening compared to the 10. The 10 had two major red fish eye dot. You could barely notice the red dots on mine. They're only 12 graded psa 10. You would think they would they could just go into their data base and see what had been graded a 10 in the past.

      They have graded much tougher in recent years because they are trying to control the population of 10s. Something else I have a major problem with. Give the card a proper grade. This isn't college Chemistry 101 where you need a bell curve.

      @SportCardMadness thank you for responding. As I mentioned, I'm new to grading. I just want to know what the standards are before I send cards in to be graded. I don't want to waste my money getting a card graded, and the value comes back less than the cost of grading. I recently bought over a million cards from a former card dealer, mostly 80s and 90s. I did get a lot of cards from the 60s and 70s they aren't top grades card. I'm trying to sell a bulk of the cards to recoup my initial investment. For example, the 1986 Ryne Sandberg I have 40 copies. So, selling what I think is a 10 is fine with me.

    Terrible that this happened. Hopefully there’s a better outcome. I think PSA deserves criticism, but I don’t think you did it accurately. You should have reiterated that the guarantee does not cover autographs. That’s a big point that you didn’t touch on enough. Secondly, obviously they’re screwing him on valuation, but you should provide evidence for a better valuation. It’s an extremely rare card/auto so I don’t think they’re “cherry picking”, there are probably no sales. You said cherry picking a hundred times

    • @SportCardMadness
      @SportCardMadness  Месяц назад +2

      Agreed but PSA needs to be better about communicating the lack of applicability of the guarantee to autographs. Me and just about every collector I spoke with truly had no idea. He provided a sales receipt but that isn’t sufficient evidence as there are no public / recent sales; though they can certainly look at other rare autos of obscure players in this set and quickly realize $10 is asinine. Further, they have access to the registry. Reach out to owners of this card and take a dollar cost avg of the sales price. There are about 700 different ways they could have gone with this that would have been more productive and accurate.

    I design and build some of the forensic spectral equipment used for authentication. My devices are at Quantico with the FBI. They are in jails and forensic labs all over the country. I personally feel PSA and other authenticating entities vastly overstate their abilities. I've been around some of the worlds best forgery experts, and they don't have the confidence to guarantee anything. The verbage is always "very probable" or "highly unlikely." The only times they are certain is when they find two different inks or materials that didn't exist when the forgery was supposedly made.

Now, when it comes to him knowingly selling fake cards, I totally agree with you that he should refund the full amount, and his face should be posted all over social media so no one is affected by this scum! As of recently, PSA has been accused of a PSA machine partnership with scammers. They claim to be decertifying altered cards, which they are again cherry-picking cases when some instagraming can point out so many altered cards, among other things most probably they ultimately need to be regulated at this point or boycotted.

    We determine what grading company is best by what we buy. Ask bud light and tractor supply about the power of the consumer. As pointed out below. PSA will change when we stop inflating the value of their cards by over paying and when we stop sending them millions of cards per month. TAG grading is the best but collectors act like a cult and follow the herd over the cliff refusing to change. AI grading is long overdue and TAG is the first to bring it. Watch TAG videos. People have tried to submit the same card twice after breaking it out and the AI caught it had already graded that card! Much better than a 20 something kid who drank and partied too much the night before handing out all 10's at PSA or the employee who lost their girlfriend last night giving all 8's. PSA has too much power with no transparency. And we the collector have given them that power.

  • @chriscurry3383
    @chriscurry3383 15 дней назад +2

    My biggest problem with grading is that it is all up to interpretation and personal judgement, sort of like judging gymnastics in the Olympics. One guys 10 is another guys 8. I wouldn’t say I would never buy a PSA slab because I have. In that transaction I have the control in determining if I shell out for a 7, 8, 9, or in an alternate universe a 10. But if I submit cards from my collection I can’t be guaranteed that the process is streamlined amongst their grading team. Nor can I be assured that they’re even competent to begin with, Frank’s incident as the ultimate example. I don’t give a damn how much you wanna change your slabs, or how much turnover you have in graders, something comes back through that door to be reslabbed, it leaves with the same grades and authentications.

I mean who is Art Harris anyway and what does this guy think its worth? Its almost delusional as the people who think that there cards are still worth 2020 prices. • @SportCardMadness
      @SportCardMadness  11 дней назад

      The values seem crazy because you aren't a high end vintage autograph set collector and the sales are almost always private for the rarer cards (Art Harris is the 2nd hardest in that set). I have the signed 1986 Fleer set autographed and slabbed and am one away from the signed 1969 NBA Topps set. I would have no problem paying $5K+ for a PSA Slabbed Art Harris card (I personally got a deal at $2500 for mine bc it was raw) and could name 20 other high end set guys instantly right now that would do the same. This isn't a 2020 thing - the value of these signed vintage cards have gone up continuously with no dip ... think of them as bonds vs. stocks. To offer $10 is one of the most monumentally insane things I've ever heard in all my years of collecting. I connected with Ryan and was able to get him $2500.

      @SportCardMadness I completely agree with that. PSA should have, at the very least, honored the coverage amount that he paid for. But I still feel that he underinsured himself by only paying the $25 insurance to save himself such a small amount of money for a card that cost over $5k. Not a smart move that cost the owner of the card big time and a complete scumbag move on part of PSA for copping out on their insurance coverage.
