For Modern cards, even getting a 9 will make your cards cheaper than a near mint raw. Especially if you factor in the cost for grading.

Tough break on some of the grades. Here's an important tip.
Look at the front of the card first. If the left or right side is noticeably fatter than the other side, it likely won't grade a 10. I noticed most of your 9's were heavy on the left or right.
Also, those yellow bordered full arts are hard to grade 10 bc the surface is always filled with scratches.

    • @Poke_house

If you just took them out of the store packet, and then sleeved them and sent them in, shouldn't they all be 10? Like never touched, not stored, brand spanking new...assuming they are centered and all that jazz. I don't understand some of the grading when it's a brand new card!!

    • @Poke_house
      @Poke_house  3 месяца назад +11

Unfortunately not! Even some cards in packs still get banged up/not centered well. So it’s tough when you send them in you just have to see if the card looks good to the best of your ability and kinda hope for the best!!

There are a lot that can happen during production. If they move stacks of cardboard around to fill the printing machines, the top sheet will get the holo scratched even before printing for example.
Cutting knives eventually get dull and need to be replaced, if you get a card that was cut just before the knives got changed you will get rougher edges then when the knives are fresh.
The packages can be stored badly or handled badly before you buythem, damaging the edges.
Those are just a couple of things that can happen to cards and degrade them before you even open the package.

if you do this for fun who cares about values.
cracking plastic will add more trash to the planet. might as well keep it in the slab as the future value of that slab will of corse increase. that is if you can get your cards through the impending ww3 without too much nuclear burns.

PSA is way too inconsistent. For newish cards the only way to add value is getting a 10. Even 9 is a loss if you picked it up at market value since grading is so expensive. An 8 is going to make it lose value on top of having to pay for grading.

The truth is you can't make money off of grading anymore. Don't be the sucker. Sell your non gem mint cards. Sell the cards ungraded and let someone else buy it and think they can get a 10.

That sucks! That $20 covers the grading fee and insurance. I'm getting a batch together. The key is to not be attached to your card, or you will be less strict. I pulled 50 cards that I thought were a 9 or 10, then used 5X magnification to see any areas that might be a problem. That 50 turned into 13, so I need 7 more. If it's not worth more than $100 at a 9, I won't send it. The centering is a pain in the ass. Especially old BB cards like '84 - '86.

Only in newer cards that are readily available. A card that is rare to find from older sets can suffer a worse grade because finding a raw replacement can be hard to do. New cards flood the market so you can find a better example pretty easily which means anything less an a 10 can be had by just opening more packs. Hopefully that makes sense and I’m sure you already knew this but for those who didn’t then I hope this helps.

having the choice to put the the card in a binder or a top loader that takes less space than a graded card and still having that satisfied feeling with it sometimes even more
its just a preference of the hobby.
Yet agin you could say that about graded cards in a way
Also you can shake the card in the psa and Cgc slabs
Beckett on the other hand that’s some good protection
