Alright everyone, we all know this guy isn't the best drummer in the world. But actually, he joined the band at around 17 and started recording the album Homesick at 18. So, this guy right here is really successful and badass!
@@combatwombatt I hope 4 years of aging has brought you to the realisation that over playing and not playing for the song is trash and you should never do it anywhere but your basement.
this is possibly my favorite video on youtube [: i just started drumming a couple weeks ago and i've been a huge fan of adtr for a while. alex shelnutt is my hero! :D
I love Shenut. Not only is he a really solid drummer but he improvises live really well. I also like how they played this song faster. He's just an all around great drummer.
he looks like a robot drumming machine! all his moves are so clean, i mean he doesnt put alot of headbanging and craziness into his drumming like alot of others, but everything he does and every time he hits something on his drum kit you can hear it distinctly!
Lol, I didn't know the exact amount of time and I thought I saw an interview somewhere where he said "around ten years," but you are right, after looking it up it's definitely only been 7-8 years (depending on when in 2002 he started).
drumd00d Except, Alex doesn't use Meinl anymore, hahaha, he uses Zildjian. Meinl still has great cymbals. He also switched from Truth Custom Drums to SJC Custom Drums.
@dat1kidzfriend it's a triger pad, many drummers use them to add deversity. By the looks of it he's set it to the sound of 808 bass drum, which is an increadibly low bass drum thats used in hip hop alot. I've seen alot of drummers use an 808 on the their trigger pad because it really is bassy and adds a massive punch to the music.
dude is awsome, been playin in this band since hes 15...pretty good accomplishment if you ask me. motivates me to be the best drummer i can
Learning drums is like boot camp. Practice the patterns n muscle memory. It's not fun
i still cant believe he was 15 years old when he joined the band .. wow amazing ..

definition of a good crowd.
Fr.!
Crazy to think Alex is only 18 in this clip.
too bad his drumming is basic shit lol
djent is totally a genre Sounds good though. He has a good groove and the parts fit the song well. I wouldn't change them a bit.

meh, it was warped tour, there was all kinds of teen bands on it.
I would hope however long you've been alive that there's more to drumming that 4/4 pop punk/metalcore talentless shit
he will always be one of my favorites. GOLDEN EALGE!
I’m here for the memories Damn 12 years ago !
This song will still be amazing in 3022.
So freaking solid. His drums sound so goooood. His snare is from heaven, i swear.
This is the prime period for ADTR. They were hungry for it, and it was an exciting time for everyone.
I miss those days.

Sick.
This video and the daniel Williams one got me into Meinl cymbals. Really like this video and adtr
drumd00d except in the Daniel Williams video his playing is fucking terrible
drumd00d Except, Alex doesn't use Meinl anymore, hahaha, he uses Zildjian. Meinl still has great cymbals. He also switched from Truth Custom Drums to SJC Custom Drums.
aarwonable cheez Yeah I know. Usually I'm a zildjian guy, but I prefer Meinl's sound with Alex's playing
BADASS
@cardoz0rz keep in mind, he's the drummer of ADTR.
Pretty sure he can play however he wants it.
hes sick as hell. lol
love that song.
fast forward to 2012
I find this comment highly ironic because I barely heard any timing issues at all...
Dude recorded Homesick when he was barely older than I am. Such a solid drummer.
love that extra fill he chucks in at 0:26

You guys can bash him all you want. But he's the one playing for a ton of people and we are sitting at our computers.
