Alex Shelnutt is a very good drummer. So many of the music majors come onto the internet and hate on him because he isn't playing stuff that requires insane rudiments or complexity. Alex has a very solid groove and writes some pretty sick drum parts for ADTR. His style fits their style perfectly and I think that he is one of the best hardcore drummers ever.
I don't think he's one of the best, but he's pretty good. He used to be just "meh," back when I saw them a few times post-Homesick he would speed up all of the songs to a ridiculous pace or lose the tempo in transitions. He doesn't do that anymore, and he's definitely one of the most improved drummers in the scene.
His bass steps are perfect

Plus he got his start with ADTR when he was like 16
+Kevin James He joined ADTR when he was 15. In an interview he was asked how he got into ADTR and he said "Jeremy asked me if I could go on tour with them and I told them I had to ask my mom first."

I disagree. Listen to the this music, any drummer could play along to a song like this, but he doesn't just do basic things. This guy adds in A LOT of little things most drummers wouldn't have thought out. He is a true musician. I guarentee he is capable of more difficult drumming. But its the small things that show how great he really is
I see all these people saying "Oh he isn't that good" like he makes music that clearly A LOT of people enjoy as well as myself. It doesn't matter how "good" he is, if the fans like the music and enjoy it, that's all that matters.

That China sounds so great. It's so crisp ( in and out). I'm not a HUGE fan of K Custom cymbals although if someone bought em for me I wouldn't complain, they just wouldn't be my first choice. I love the A Customs personally. But again that China.... Is..... Sexy
As long as a drummer can keep the beat and timing, their automatically a good drummer...don't have to know a million techniques lol

From a drumming point of view, he's filling in the song to make it interesting. Granted, I'm a huge QOTSA fan and i agree that less is more. this genre you can get away with doing fancy fills or the random poly rhythm. I don't know this band, but fair play to them getting big and selling out venues

Anyone realize this was two videos merged ? 50% of the shots he is wearing a camo tank and the other 50% in black tank with writing on the front. Watched and found both videos. Tempo was different so someone merged videos.
