I've listened to drummers from Lee Stanton of Thy Art Is Murder, Matt Greiner, Luke Holland, Buddy Rich, John Bonham, Neil Peart, and Alex Shelnutt is still my favorite out of all of them. I am just so in love with his playful style and his comfort behind that kit.
@DDrummr41 I know this isn't specific but it will definitely narrow down your search, he plays Evans heads. If you go to there website and find him in there artist roster it says all the evans products he uses.
totally agree with you man. the dw stand makes this easy for you to do too. it does make a difference.. i hate when they're super tight and can't get a good sound from them.
Sup gents, figured I'd throw in my 2 cents. Both bands are pretty cool, and I dig both AA and ADTR's tunes, regardless of whether it's their most recent, or older stuff. The change both of them went through, (Attack Attack's change especially) is pretty cool when you look at it haha.
I saw zildjians video of this same show.. and it says he is using a A Zildjian Sweet Ride but it looks to me like he is using all K and K Custom and Hybrid cymbals...
i dont know if anyone else got this or if I'm wrong, but he either drums so hard his shirts' tag is out, or he taped the output aux on his shirt so he can hear himself better. Either way, thats fucking badass.
@DanOnDrumsss I would be very surprised if they didn't play to a click track through their in-ears. Lots of bands do it, it just helps them not speed up and stuff
It's not the drummer who does that. It's the roadies and the sound men working together on what gives the best sound to the mics. The drummer can has his saying as well, but that's how it is. I used to tell the soundman to loosen up my cymbals until I heard the difference in the speakers, after that I went with how he wanted it to be :)
Hey now that was a great album. I think the drums were really great. They were not just following the music, he had a really awesome approach to it. I've gotten into playing alot of it. Just hate how AA isnt really them anymore. Catfish Soup was the best song on that IMO.
Do you guys even know what Golden Eagle is? Or are you just saying it from his episode of What Separates Me From You? It's his Skate company that him and James Lano made. -_-
I checked him out, and I don't really know what to think of him. At first it was neat that he was so into his drumming, and he does have a definite style, but it honestly seems very repetitive to me, and I don't know if I really find any inspiration from him sadly :c
oooor, the sound guy/s would have told him to tighten up the stands because the venue had a lot of reverb (which it sounds like in the clip), which makes cymbals sound, well, like they have lots of reverb on them, which would sound shit from how much sustain his cymbals have when they're not as tight. basically it would have sounded overly 'washy' out foh and thats no good. And a tight or loose ride will always have a ping. Also, mics+mixer just gives volume not sustain as your comment states...
When the smoke machines kick in it sounds like Alex is playing on the loudest, thrashiest china of all time. Does anyone know what he triggers when he hits the electric pad at the start of each chorus?
Yeah! But if you want a cheaper alternative, I use a stagg 19" DH china. I've tested a few of them against a few different 18" orientals, and in my opinion, it sounds about the same at about half the price. And I've had mine for almost 2 years now. (That's playing it for an average of 3 hours a day, plus shows)
Sadly I agree with you. Its what the genera is really. Its what you'd expect to hear when its played. I know this is a bad comparison, But Take ABR and TIJ, Matt and Adam, when you listen to the songs from them, you Don't expect there drums at all. They take the lead in the songs in my opinion.
yeah I definitely agree with how they take lead in their songs. I'm sure Aaron is like that for his own genre, but I personally think Attack Attack's drummer from Someday Came Suddenly is much more interesting than him lol
Drumming in jeans, this man is a lunatic.
alex joined ADTR when he was 15 how crazy is that
That's crazy
OK and??? Your point is he was 15. Is that so extreme that its crazy or something? Dumbass 🙄!!
He's one of the best drummer's of today! GOLDEN EAGLE
I fucking love watching Alex play drums
Hard to believe this was almost 10 years ago. I remember watching this video for the first time like it was yesterday
Wow, you really learn to appreciate everyone who contributes to a band after seeing stuff like this!
This dude is fucking insane I don't care what anyone says. He should be one of the most well known drummers in todays metal scene
we agree!
you killed it bosss...
all good i've been a fan of his work for along time he inspired me to drum 4yrs ago
I just saw them in Lowell MA on October 8th, wow what a show it was amazing
now this is what im talking about!! soo siiickk!! nothing gets better then drummer view of an awsome drummer live. soo good :D
Awesome kit really!!!!!

Damn, this dude rocks... l look forward to seeing it live
I wouldn't go that far, but his work is really clean and he looks like he's having fun. I respect him.
Wonderful!
sick!!!
great!!!!
Most underrated part of any band
Great cover I ever watched! Sounds like original!
It is the original lmao
That’s ADTR performing live.
3:11 that footwork!!
He's pushing that beat like a boss, way faster than the orginalXD
Yeah, Jeremy struggling to keep up 🤣
@3:11 hitting that bass drop yeeeeeah! GOLDEN EAGLE!
He definitely will man, drummers in bands as big as these will without a doubt have a metronome going and have in-ear monitoring too
Man that double pedals is crazy
Sick!
The amount of times he's probably played this song, he honestly has no need for one.
HEY, i just realized i was actually at that show, and man they were awesome
..
yeah now that guy has passion and his style is just amazing check him out
I LIVE IN LOWELL, HOW DID THIS SHOW SLIP BY ME
alex is going hard!
21" Zildjian Sweet Ride
agree.
Probly my favorite drummer out there. I don't play this style, but it sounds sick haha
That bass drum sounds like a machine gun 🤯
wow
GOLDEN EAGLE!!!
No problem!
@npdrumming it's Alex's skateboard company.
I wonder what triggers Alex was using on his pad throughout the song. Sounded like bass boosts or something. Super cool
Make the clip of Indonesian drummer Aldy Kumis - Pee wee gaskins, he's good indeed
He must burn so much calories after every show, amazing.
I think he burns them during the show!
Bass Drop my friend =] best sound ever
Que lokooooooooooooooooooooooo veiiiiiiiiiiiiii....
กลองสวยมากครับ

Obviously it's supposed to highlight drums
I saw zildjians video of this same show.. and it says he is using a A Zildjian Sweet Ride but it looks to me like he is using all K and K Custom and Hybrid cymbals...

Looks like a binder clip to me, keeping slack to his IEMs
Does anyone know what throne he is using? It's fricken huge and I want to order it.
I love how his click speeds up like 5 bpm after the beginning sample:p
2011 warped tour was first tour with SJC i believe, hes been with them ever since
@DanOnDrumsss I would be very surprised if they didn't play to a click track through their in-ears. Lots of bands do it, it just helps them not speed up and stuff
Does anyone have any clue of what specific heads he's using all around his kit?
I won Alex Shelnutt's property of Zach, Golden Eagle Giveaway.
I got a GE skateboard, 2 shirts, 2 hats, about 100 sticks, and Alex's autograph.
This is the only video of him ive seen where he does no stick ricks (that i noticed). Damn he was in the fucking zone
im gonna test the stagg - thanks dude
someone tell me the sticking pattern of the fill he does at 1:06
RL RL KK down the toms
Wow he did as if he was the drummer of ADTR!
He is

what are your thoughts on Aaron Gillespie?
Do you guys even know what Golden Eagle is?
Or are you just saying it from his episode of What Separates Me From You?
It's his Skate company that him and James Lano made.
-_-
I like how someone said its mixed horribly
does somebody know which china he plays ?
Neither did I?
I checked him out, and I don't really know what to think of him. At first it was neat that he was so into his drumming, and he does have a definite style, but it honestly seems very repetitive to me, and I don't know if I really find any inspiration from him sadly :c
What ride is he using?

what's golden eagle? if you don't mind my asking.
Idk I never really listened to him to be honest. I'm pretty sure he was in Underoath right?
When the smoke machines kick in it sounds like Alex is playing on the loudest, thrashiest china of all time. Does anyone know what he triggers when he hits the electric pad at the start of each chorus?
Bro smacks the SHIT out of them cymbals. Idk how they even last a set.0
He never said anything about ruining them, he said so they give off more sustain...
This isn't mixed, this is a camera video..
Only 1 dislike? ......the trolls must be sleeping
Yeah! But if you want a cheaper alternative, I use a stagg 19" DH china. Whats the china?
Whats a golden eagle?
yes, it is a 16 inch china
Playable
Alex moves from company to company, first Truth and Meinl, now SJC and Zildjian.
is he using a metronome?
if so props because drummers love to speed up
Almost every drummer on this level will. It's required for the backing tracks and synchronized lights
thanks, guess its one of the best - nearly everybody uses it
Is that china a 16?
Dat @1:11 Though.
dat bass pad
i thought he played truth drums..?
Sadly I agree with you. Its what the genera is really. Its what you'd expect to hear when its played. I know this is a bad comparison, But Take ABR and TIJ, Matt and Adam, when you listen to the songs from them, you Don't expect there drums at all. They take the lead in the songs in my opinion.
cymbals durability for Alex: 1 or 2 shows hahahaha
Well this wasn’t in Harry’s code …
it always seems like they run that too fast..but it was still sick
is it? is it really? you do realize mixing and mastering are done while being recorded right? this is live
Mixing happens live too 🙄
yeah I definitely agree with how they take lead in their songs. I'm sure Aaron is like that for his own genre, but I personally think Attack Attack's drummer from Someday Came Suddenly is much more interesting than him lol
Roland SPD-S
Ladies and Gentlemen, Maturity at its finest.
looks like loads of beach balls fly out of his china at 0:47
the catergory is auto and vehicles lol
doubt it, just years of great practice
