LoL. I've got a few of these I made for trolling for mahi-mahi. My wife has standing orders not to throw away this style of pen. I'd recommend using it as a trolling lure and use a tandem hook set up with a loop eye in both ends of the wire. Give the wire a kink ini the middle or barrel wrap it well into the pen cap before pouring in the resin. Then attach your swivel and hook set with split rings. If you don't want to use a trebel hook then use a tandem hook set-up which will get you a hook up close to the jig and at the end if the skirt. To make a tandem hook set just open the eye slightly of a long shank 5/0 hook and insert a second hook then close the eye to lock it in with the hooks both facing down, not offset up and down, although actually I guess you could try it offset . You can see how to set up a tandem hook on South Florida Saltwater Fishing.
This lure has a lot of influence from Japan and China written all over it! I've been watching a ton of videos where they are making lures out of plastic squids and octopuses and that was how your video came up!
I was thinking of adding glow in the dark powder to the resin..then you just hit it with the light of a good flashlight and you can keep it glowing all night.
Instead if wire try a shelled hook made of heavy mono or floro . You could then rig them in tandem so kind rigid but have some movement. A deep water light would be cool. May try plastic squid body inside with a bit. In salmon fishing there are clear plastic “bullets” that may work similar without the pen top. Very cool lure!
Your idea of having a swinging Hook is a great idea you can even use a swivel this way the fish won't use the hook against you in make it come loose in the fight by twisting the hook like a lever but when using a circle hook never swing, when you get bit always let the fish swim away from you and pull drag out when he pulls the drag out you'll know that he's hooked can't wait to build a couple to use on a ganyon for bottom fish
Great idea! They look the goods. I reckon a inline hook could work well, no offset and very short Kevlar it would move with the flasher hair/silicon as well ;)
Great bait. Youll have to try flashabou or some magnum flashabou. Its alot like tinsel but alittle wider. It might not be strong enough to hold up through several bites though.
The biggest problem on the first jig was the Circle hook (At least that is what it looks like).. Just putting another type hook without the circle bend would help substantially. That is a really cool jig and would crossover for river Salmon fishing among other things. Well Done/
How about moving the hook further up into to the lure, maybe using a long shank hook. Making the hook itself more rigid and hook setting in the fishes mouth.
Nix the circle hook and go offset for the swinging hook. First time being first comment! Man I am pathetic. But seriously I would try a different hook style.
Your problem is that is a circle hook and a circle hook you never set the hook all you do is let the fish take the hook and run with it he will hook himself 90% in the corner of the mouth when it turns to get away, it's good for deep water fish and tuna and halibut, how about trying a chemical light insert for the deep water drops

Hi my friend, I'm Luca, italian who is living in Thailand, I already mind you with many questions, may you remember me. What's your name? Sorry if I ask, I'm going to open a new my YT channel series about building lures. I ask your name cause I would like to give credit to you and your channel in many ways, tell who you're, about your channel, telling that you're inspired me, etc. Thanks so much!
Hi Francisco, cause I spend hours everyday with you since weeks I feel as I know you since long time, more important, I have a couple of projects and related videos to finish first then I will begin with lures and vides. As told you are going to be part of cause you gave me the inspiration and the enciclopedic base to start from and I want express my gratitude giving credits cause you deserve it, thanks so much!
Definitely DO NOT drill or using the circular dremel saw like he has, unless you like drilling hole sin your fingers or cutting your fingers off. Put the pen top in a vice not your fingers ;)
Would love to see you use these jigs in your next video. As far as your idea of using a pen cap to make a squid jig. Brilliant, thanks for sharing.

Thanks.
Put a little piece of heat shrink over the split ring. I love tat lure, it would work very well for our mackerel to start with.
Dude!...the heat shrink trick! Why didn't I think of that? I'll try that next. Thanks.
the idea to fill the cavity with resin is so prfect, an attention to detail. Thumb up.
You could try drilling a small hole in the part where you cut off the pocket clip and add a trailer hook with a split ring
Worth a try.
nice build
for the hooks i suggest to use regular short shank hooks
never use circle hooks on skirts and so
This lure has a lot of influence from Japan and China written all over it! I've been watching a ton of videos where they are making lures out of plastic squids and octopuses and that was how your video came up!
Well thank you for watching...you're right, Pacific rim countries fish a lot for squid and cuttlefish, and they use lures to do it.
Use rubber tubing to control the hook swing on the original This technique is used in fly fishing with tube flies
Sir.i love fishing in the Philippines I am watching from jeddah thank sharing this vedio.
Now thats cool...you could even put a willow blade on the wire that stuck out when bending the loop for the line tie. As always well done.
So very nice..
Good idea
A J hook or a treble would help with hook sets
Wouldn’t mind seeing a small piece of glow stick inside the cap, for some night jigging underneath a bridge or dock. Rad stuff EA.

Nice friend..already done
Super cool try shrimp look too

The red frog eyes look perfect
Excellent man

I'll keep refining....thanks
Thank you for sharing the idea great Lure

Maybe use a treble hook 😉 thanks for sharing your creations, always fun and informative! 😁
double or treble hook yes
Maybe use a treble hook😉 thanks for sharing your creations always fun and informative, nice to watch 👍🏼😁
The first attempt was wire a tribble. ..it just tangled up in the skirt.
i like it realy easy thing to do got one question that vibrator you use on powdercoating there can i get one
The vibratory table I made...
@@EngineeredAngler A build of powdercoat Vib. would be cool! Peace
I was wondering the same thing
very nice...god job sir.👍
Many many thanks

Add Krinkle Flash to your flash materials pal..
Good thank you so much 👍

I'll try it ...thanks
Please do a catch report on it. Please...

Maybe 1 size up in hook size, keep it fixed, trim ur skirt length back some(about 1/2"-1")that's why ur getting short strikes
Sounds reasonable...
Ok
Try to use straight open hook instead of that life saver one
Try to use treble hooks
I tried them but the skirt gets tangled in it...thanks though.
Hi Franco, where did you buy the snail pliers thank you
The tool is something I designed and made myself....here's a video on how I built it.

Hello sir can you give a lure....
Where can one get those pen caps from
I put the type of pen in the video description...that should help.

What brand of pen has that big of a cap
I'll take a look at the package and put the info in the description
Use assist hooks
I'll look it up...thanks
Oh wait...do you mean a trailer or stinger hook? If so that might be a good idea.
Definitely DO NOT drill or using the circular dremel saw like he has, unless you like drilling hole sin your fingers or cutting your fingers off. Put the pen top in a vice not your fingers ;)
