Most of the cars in the scrapyards where still in the showroom when my "new" car was already old enough to be scrapped.
(I drive a "new" 1994 Toyota Celica and an old 1972 Hillman Avenger.)

It's really not all that rare, people just settle too quickly.

I approve of this purchase 100%. It's always good to have a bangernomics car that sold in good numbers so you can get parts from a scrapyard or pattern parts.
It's sort of thing I'd like to buy. I'll be interested to see what sort of fuel economy you get and what it proves to be like in day to day use.

Please get some wheeltrims! Even if you can't get the original type, you can buy a set of perfectly acceptable aftermarket ones for £20, and they make such a difference to a slightly tired older car.

Old Peugeot or Citroen alloy wheels off vehicles of the same age and platform look good on Berlingo's and Partner's. The Citroen Saxo and Xsara VTR alloys tend to look really good on these.

Rear axle can be a problem seals go because of rust which lets water into pivot bearings which case play and eventually snap torsion bars as it all goes out of alignment. Spray wd40 around main pivot every so often to prevent rust damaging seals. Back door handle inner can break, repair kit off eBay. 2.0 hdi is a tough engine. Good luck

  • @unexceptionalcars914

In my experience with my cars the best way to swap mirror caps is to take the glass out and go at the clips from inside the mirror

    • @NOWThatsRichy
      @NOWThatsRichy 2 года назад +1

Yes definitely, the clips are nearly always a one time only type moulding, once snapped into place, you'll never get the old one off without breaking it!

@@AaronSmart.online I changed the mirror caps on a Fiat 500 recently and this is exactly how it was done. The tricky part is trying to evenly spread the pressure on the back of the mirror glass when pulling it out to avoid breaking it.

It is not worth all that money, but it is fun to drive and hauls a trailer nicely so I have no need to stick a towbar on my Passat and to be honest you have to think when you drive the Berlingo where as the Passat can be driven almost in a daze.

One of the reasons I chose Mazda this time round (2016 CX-9 Signature) was that they aren’t afraid of installing a larger rear wiper than most manufacturers. I’d like to see someone make custom rear wipers (longer/extendable arm and longer blade) for those stuck with modern 10cm wipers which really do nothing. Thanks for the “junkyard” tour. The issue with the washer jets on the wiper arm is that washer fluid can leak out of the pipe connections inside the motor housing where it passes through the motor and thus seize the motor, changed that to using a later after market motor and drilling a hole to take a washer jet on the outside so it can spray the screen.
And yes your vehicle is pre facelift so the roofbars feet sit in the small welded on roof lugs and not on the later style aerodeck bars but they are great vehicles and some say more reliable than the later HDI engines.

Nice bit of quality entry-level tinkering, the sort that always happens once you get a new car. Drop everything and address lots of minor issues. One hint for the mirror would be to squeeze some glue into the case to stop rattling of the broken bits then fix the new trim with a combo of glue and silicone sealant to keep rainwater out of the clip holes.

A friend has just replaced both front wiper motors on her 10 plate Scenic. Main dealer price was quoted at over £900, but they (fortunately) couldn’t source a driver side motor. I found one which was s/h but unused on eBay and she used an independent Renault specialist to get the job done for just over £500. Still a ludicrous price for fixing wipers when my single VW motor is just over £100, but a saving of £400 made her happy!

There's also the comfort of knowing there's a ready supply of spare parts if required and if you so desired the option of making it a Harlequin, now that would be interesting. What absolute fun, getting parts from old cars. U could spend hours in this type of "scrappies ". Always very satisfying. Looking forward to seeing how the new Citroën does.

What a great video from the Hubnuts. It is nice to see Ian going down the recycling route to do some basic repair work to his New Ride "Betty Berlingo".

Scrapyards..... the old days. What I remember about scrapyards back then is.... wading through mud, and bottomless puddles.
    Nice job with the bits.

The car with a donor door less rusty than yours was inevitably half crushed by two stored cars balanced precariously on top, rendering the door useless.

That's a really successful caper there; wonderful to see. Already love the new HubNut car; it is such an interesting thing, especially with that interior. So nice to hear the two of you giving Berlingo facts and advice.

Nice car! The gear knob in the golden scrap Berlingo looked quite nice on camera, you could've grabbed it while you were there.
The Berlingo/Kangoo is on the shortlist if either of my parents' cars ever gives up for good but one thing I don't quite like about the Kangoo is the risk of hitting your head on the overhead storage if you're 6'+. It's happened to me. Another car I quite fancy is the Toyota Yaris Verso. It's amazing how much you can fit into one of these! Apparently they can have issues with first gear though.

A sad Renault "supercinq" still standing out there 😢
Your video reminds me of me three days ago going scrapyard raid. I ended up carriyng two full bags of parts for Citroen Xsara 2003 and 1992 Renault 5, with a total amount of expenses at 100 euros.
And it could have been worse ! I got more requests for my girl's C3 HDI and a friend's Opel Kadett sedan, but sadly I run out of time

Lovely to see work progressing already. It's extremely satisfying to see simple cosmetic jobs sorted that really do make a big difference.
It would be fantastic to see this car at FOTU. I'd love to have a good nosey around this car. I'll be attending fir the first time this year with the Mégane Coupe.
Sad to see the R5 rusting away (my first car was an R5) and I've had a few MK2 Clio in period and really liked them.
The Vel Satis is another example of how the French are better at exuberant luxury than the Germans but hopeless at residual values. That interior still looks wonderful some two decades on.
