Hey BEAT family! Over the past ten years, some very high-profile mega-church pastors have fallen from ministry. Three of them come to mind at this time, although there are many others. So, I decided to create a video discussing some of the common characteristics of ministry leaders who fall. It is my prayer that your spiritual leader will not be next. If you start to see these signs, please share this video with them before it's too late.

What is another indicator? Sexual sin, which includes preaching about sex in an ungodly way to lead their congregations into sin. We know from the media accounts about 4 pastors who fell sexually and were not accountable until they were exposed. Even though there appeared to be repentance by some, they quickly went back into a new ministry after refusing to be counseled for a prescribed amount of time. I believe they should have left the ministry completely. God forgives a truly repentant person but their godly leadership has been forever damaged. I would not be under the ministry of such an ungodly minister.
Because of the SEVERE damage these pastors caused to many individuals and the church, I will name them. Also, because of the damage currently being caused by these pastors to those who do not understand their pasts and their unwillingness to have stepped down. Ted Haggard, Mark Driscoll, Bill Hybels, Andy Savage.

Sometimes you can tell something's wrong when they're preaching. One minister would read out a Bible verse, then close his Bible & start preaching. But he would be all over the place, going from many many different subject to subject, they weren't all related & had absolutely nothing to do with the Bible verse he had read. I believed within myself that something was wrong in his life & started to pray for him. It turns out that he was sexually abusing women in his church.

My husband and I had to make a difficult decision to leave the church we went to for 14 years, because so many things happened all at once. Since then it’s been 3 years and we’ve had a few other things we’ve experienced from Christian “leaders.” I think if we were not rooted & grounded in our walk with Christ, we would probably have completely walked away from church. Thank God we have now found a church. I really wish we would all stop putting Christian leaders on a pedestal. I had to learn the hard way.

When Johnathan was defending David's character, Saul was angry but when Johnathan did this, he was not hurting Saul but obeying God. As someone who use to exhault myself for the gift that God had given me. He took me all the way from the stage to a regular member of a church. It happened so fast and it was a very painful experience. As a father, God disciplines us. Discipline is very harsh sometimes but it's for our good. So, downfall in my experience is the first sign of God's Discipline. Let us of coz seek to help these leaders and pray for them.
One thing we have in common is that we are humans, praising someone for their good works might lead to them exhaulting themselves the way I did. Once again, God is our father and he deals with us.

He was a large giver in the church and let everyone know and a bit of a charismatic personality whereas my own personality is much blander! :-) I would not preach his pet doctrine of hyper-dispensationalism and therefore he went to work to gather and garner support to oust me. He succeeded but didn't anticipate another deacon standing up to him and his followers and exposing him. This was my first church out of seminary, so I was a bit bamboozled on this whole thing myself, but now, later I can see his toxic behavior, especially after watching your video. Thank you.

Thank you so much Allen for sharing your wisdom and knowledge. This is a side effect of pride but I believe pastors start believing their own hype. Many people are going to mega churches to be entertained instead of learning more about a relationship with Christ. Sin feeds off of sin. The congregants feed the pastor’s ego, the pastor feeds the congregants baby food about how God wants them to be prosperous and happy and comfortable.

One of the things that sticks with me is that sometimes people stand on the stage and make a comment such as "if your life is going well, you need a God check." As if things going well for you is an indicator that you are doing something wrong.
It might be, but it might not be.
It seems to me that we have a number of folks in the audience at most churches I've been to who are left unsure of their standing. They are always put off balance by pithy statements and not enough actual teaching. We get nice life lessons, but hardly anything about actual salvation and what God and Jesus is all about.

      2 Chronicles 14:6-7 speaking of King Asa;
"He built up the fortified cities of Judah, since the land was at peace. No one was at war with him during those years, for the Lord gave him rest."
Sometimes doing well is exactly that. A period of rest. But notice that King Asa used that time of rest wisely...
“Let us build up these towns,” he said to Judah, “and put walls around them, with towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours, because we have sought the Lord our God; we sought him and he has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered."
whilst we have "rest" we need to be fortifying ourselves. Prayer, fasting, reading the Word... for we know that battles will come again

Hmm, I thoroughly enjoyed hearing your perspective on this. However, while you were explaining your points these three thoughts came to mind: Pride is an issue everyone struggles with. Why do people put spiritual leaders on some sort of pedestal? And should the focus be on looking at spiritual leaders with a microscope or when, not if, when they fall ensuring that grace is extended versus finger pointing and point making. My husband was a spiritual leader for 5 years, but more importantly he’s a human. The expectation for Pastors to be this perfect, arrived, unaffected by the very things everyone deals with in life is unreal and the pressure to show up as this person is unreal too. This leads many Pastors into isolation. I meet so many Pastors and their wives at retreats who struggle with this, that is, they are known of by many but truly known by few. What you touched on in the video is so good and it is applicable to ALL believers. Pastors have families, lives, bills, struggle emotionally, mentally, etc. This is why we are not to follow men, but we are to follow our spiritual leaders AS THEY follow Christ not looking at them as a sort of Christ. Spiritual leaders will fail you. The higher you put them up the harder they fall. And sadly when spiritual leaders fall many don’t have a safe place to land. From my POV a lot of pastors and their families don’t have a space to just be a friend; they’re always “othered”. How dare they show up to family dinner and not pray over the food, when the man of the house is present. How dare they have a off day and not be jolly ready with advice and a encouraging word. How dare they be going through a tough season and question God while you’re around. This leads to isolation, pride, creating a inner circle etc it’s a form of protection that may lead to sin yes, but it’s a protection nonetheless. I will digress.
Side note: I hope you don’t take this any kind of way though, but this has just been my experience seeing both sides of ministry. When God removes a Pastor he’s never done with them. I pray for these three Pastors restoration in all areas, I pray that they’re surrounded by real friends to walk with them through this, and a renewed zeal to pursue their first love. ❤️

As you have very rightly stated, the lack of effective accountability lies at the root of many pastoral failures. The thing is that accountability needs to be build in from the very beginning. If not by the time it becomes an issue the power dynamic often has developed in a way that implementing effective accountability is not possible. Denominations with a strong hierarchical structure can have an advantage here over more independent churches.

I was shunned and other members were told not to talk to me. Everything that they heard they automatically stood in agreement with the one lying and never talked to me about it. I heard most of it off the street. I have had my heart broken over and over again. I wouldve done anything for them and gave them the utmost respect and courtesy. I thought it was my fault and I wasnt worthy to really be a member of church again. I begged God to tell me what I did and why is this happening. I only wanted to get better and serve God with all I had. I'm still trying to find my way back to church but I never left God and God never left me. Hes the only reason why I made it through with my sanity!

Many years ago, I suffered this exact some spiritual abuse from an insecure pastor. All six points applied. It really left me and my family hurting for a very long time. But, we never lost in our faith in God, but we went through a lot of painful grief and left the ministry.

4:15 that happened to my mom at my old toxic church. She worked in the children’s ministry and a lot of the higher leaders treated her all nice and when my mom declined their offer to join higher staff they “stone walled her” :(

first, i've been following your youtube channel for quite sometime now; i enjoy how you're very straight forward, blunt and biblically sound.
second i'd like to point out from this video you did in which made me realize; my church a few years pulled a double standard stunt being discriminating against a particular group of people then dehumanizing them right in front of the whole entire congregation, then realized after this particular sermon one of my churches ministers stepped in to preach that night in place of my pastor whom normally preaches, i was utterly appalled after it was over then reported it to a loved one of mine that would quite fully understand were i was coming from with what was preached during that particular sermon a few years ago, its all worked out now; it hasn't happened since after the sermon that night i'm speaking of.
all i got out of that particular sermon was mentioning about a particular group of persons in which i personally believe it was heartless. it also made me realize, thats not gods heart; gods heart is LOVE and nothing but fully of LOVE for his children. i definitely prayed to god that night that my church personally would never pull that stunt again; sure enough; shortly after my praying to god, it showed me that god showed me my church hasn't pulled that stunt ever again; PRAISE OUR LORD AND SAVIOR FOR GIVING ME A SIGN ON HIS TIMING! : )

Man, this video hit hard! When I came home from the Army I took over the youth ministry of my home church - the church I grew up in - at the same time, the new pastor that came in just after I got back, manifested each and everyone of these traits, especially number 2. I cannot begin to describe how broken hearted I was to see how toxic my spiritual home had become.

Rev. Allen Parr, if I may comment by saying ; all start off faithful to GOD but along the way they sway into materialism and spoil the soup. So glad you put out this vedio with wisdom and divine strength. A big thank you.

Nice video brother Allen. I had a pastor act toxic toward me once before. I was confused and did not see It until I left that church because of a family move. All I can say is that it was hurtful. Glad we left.

_I saw this first hand at my church. Almost 20 years ago. My Pastor suffered from all Six Signs‼️This man knew the Word of God, he was also very charismatic, but was unable to Humble himself. He was Always Right - Always‼️His “baby” brother was his First Minister and was attending classes to become an Ordained Elder. Unfortunately, the Pastor always saw his Minister as his “Baby” brother and never his Minister. Often, with a smile on his face and with classic “ Passive-Aggressive” actions would put his Brother/Minister in his “place” in front of the members. All Heck broke loose when the “Baby Brother” was Ordained as an Elder. You could feel the tension and church services eventually loss the Holy Spirit. We began just going through the motions. It was truly sad to experience_

I really respect the fact that you did not name these pastors. The content of this video is powerful. I would like to add that we can also learn from the responses of the people these attitudes and behaviors were directed upon in your examples. Thank you…I learned a lot.

You kept the viewer's attention on the principles involved, and proved you were not out for some juicy slander. Pretty slick.
