I've been in the hobby since mid 80s. I bought about a year a Photon 2 and that was the worst quality RC motor I've EVER purchased. I took one look at it and dumped in the trash. just watching your other video shows how high quality the RC4WD ones are.
Hi I use the photon speed 2 in my Tamiya cars they work great you have to break them in first for like a hour or more at 3V and they will last long you can't just put a motor in a car it has to be properly broken in or it won't last long.photon speed motors are timed you can't use them in a clod I moded mine to work.
Shen RC thank you so much , I had a clod buster in 1988 so I wanted to rebuild another kit just to bring back some memories .. So I got the cod black edition last week and all I have is lipos . But as I’m building it I kinda want to go with a brushless system but I’m just not sure if it’s worth it ? So it just might sit on the shelf just cause I love building tamiya kits u no what I mean
@@justincase948 Hi with 2s lipo I would only go with the 20 turn RC4wd crawler motors anymore speed the clods just start breaking all the time...also get steel Robinson racing pinions those stock tamiya ones wear away like hot butter then mess everything up in the gearbox.

I bought a Super Clod back in 2004 and over the years I've added a Traxxas EVX speed control running 2 3000mah nimh batteries, a full ball bearing kit, Kyosho 360 motors, a CPE lift kit, Traxxas Real steering servo, Traxxas wheelie bar, and TMaxx shocks. The shocks, motors, and speed control made a world of difference!
Cool! I just put 1 oil shock on each side of my axles you dont need 8 and it works fine, my clod is stock steering but the bullhead has 2 servos one mounted to each axle. These trucks are a blast to run so much fun! Thanks

Great trucks! When we used to run the Clod back in the 80s and early 90s we did a few things that you might find beneficial. 1) installed a homemade wheelie bar using RC airplane landing gear. 2) Used a heavy duty RC boat servo to get all four wheels to turn (sitting still or driving), and 3) used two, seven cell batteries. This made a HUGE difference in the way the truck performed.
Thanks and glad you enjoyed the video! =) I did put high torque servos in them and todays lipo packs work much better than the NIMH packs do. A god trick to get nice speed if you want to use the stock motors is buy a cheap 3S capable esc and run 3S lipo in the trucks and they will move pretty nicely. Thanks for the tips.
Hi I had a modded clod with those motors and it broke and it was a full blown special chassis and links and all spent over a grand on it, would never put those 15t motors in a stock clod it will break like crazy the 20T motors are plenty enough and on the limit of a stock clod chassis capabilities .
Thats funny i have 4 clods with firebolts in them and run 2 s lipos and never once have had a issue with any of them, and they are used ALOT. Mine are stock except for bearings and steering upgrades.
Hi with the 20T motors when jumping I bent the axles inside and the pins that are in the ends that get bent and you can tell when this happens when you hold the wheels off the ground and spin one the diff wont spin smooth and even it will get hard then easy and hard out of round feeling due to the bent axles.
Hi I like the clodbuster because you can buy pick up truck bodies and mount them easy and it handles better than the bullhead because the bullheads body is very top heavy, As for durability if your looking for something fast and that you can jump and bash like crazy like traxxas RC truck then a clod is not for you they can't be beat on hard like the new style RC's but they are FUN to drive.
Rebuilding my all original 87 clod , I think I need that one sound ! Freaking cool
