Learn the Matchup: Simon and Richter Belmont

- Simon and Richter Belmont are members of the Belmont clan, a family of vampire hunters who strike down Dracula during each of his reincarnations.
In their respective series, they do this by using their trusty whip and items to dodge and weave around their opponent, while also striking them from a distance.
This style of play is faithfully recreated in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, for better and for worse. While Belmont was considered to be very strong at the start of the game, the limitations of his home series are now becoming more and more apparent.

Extra Notes:
The Holy Water Up Air Up Smash combo can be avoided by SDIing down during the Holy Water.
Holy Water Bair FSmash can be avoided by SDIing up during the Holy Water and airdodging
As a general rule of thumb, SDI Holy Water up and away.
Up Throw Up Air is not a true combo and can be airdodged, but the Belmont can call out the airdodge and punish accordingly.
Wow, that combo sounds neat! I never see a Belmont try anything even remotely cool.
It's taken more than two years for Ultimate to get a matchup guide as in depth and clearly explained as this, and you guys should be proud of yourselves for this one. Please continue to make awesome guides and I'll make sure to share them around with my friends.
P.S. I recommend you guys cover the horsemen of quickplay next: Ganon, DK, Samus, and Ness.
A lot of players struggle with these at low to mid level, so helping get more information on then out there would benefit the community as a whole.
I don’t really know the match-up on the other characters but I do know how to fight ness.
Ness kinda struggles a bit against people that stay grounded, at roll distance and walk in stead of running because even though he has fast and disjointed aerials they don’t have a lot of range and he’s also really slow on the ground (he can still surprise you with a dash attack or a djc magnet maybe but that’s pretty much it).
When a ness player charges d-smash or up-smash at ledge and your character has an up-b with multihits (mario, lucas) then you can disable the d-smash hitbox with the multihits and then hit ness out of it with the final hit (it is also possible to recover if your up-b hits below the ledge just like ken, simon and sephiroth).
Don’t jump too much against him because he can call you out with his aerials or he can throw out a pk-fire to catch your landing (the pk-fire will then true combo because you will land inside the flames).
If you get hit by pk-fire at roll-distance then you have to sdi away and then jump, airdodge or attack to avoid the follow-up.
If your character is just as small or even smaller than lucas then ness’ rising f-air will have trouble connecting into the other hits and it will only hit the first hit.
Aerial spam on shield is punishable if they don’t space it so if they do that then you can just punish them with an oos option.
Be careful at the ledge because they still have the option to do a djc magnet out of a ledge jump or a ledge drop f-air.
He’s really floaty so try to juggle him as much as possible.
To edgeguard him you have to stay at a distance where ness can’t hit you but you can hit him and if he recovers with up-b then you can just react to it and hit him with a f-air or you can just reflect, absorb, destroy or counter it).
Another helpful tip for edgeguarding against him is to be in front of the ledge so he can hit you instead, denying his fair/bair tether
But, God please hold up and press shield when trying this.
This is the best video on feeling with the Belmonts that I've seen. Thanks.

I’m a kirby main so I only have two projectiles so it’s kinda hard to not die while being camped.
Nice video, can you make one about how to beat shotos if possible? I have so many problems fighting them (and I believe a lot of people have it as well)
