    The big advantage Jordan has is that he is grounded, has great support from friends and family, not to mention his natural athleticism. I believe that if he stays cool, calm, and collected, he will continue to win in a big way. I would like to see Rory hang on to #1 for a while longer, but if not, Jordan's the man.

      Kathy Fineman And the question is, who are the top players going to be over the next decade? I actually believe right now that, unless something changes, that golf is going to look like it did in the 80s and early 90s, when the international stars dominated the game, particularly the Europeans. When I look at young players I think can become the next great champion, I don't see an American on that list. Jordan might be the next great American player (I think he will be because of his all-around game), but he lacks the big game that McIlroy, Rose, Scott, Day, and even the two South Africans, Schwartzel and Oosthuizen all seem to have.
      In fact, if I were to look at the best players in the world, if you don't have a healthy Tiger, there's not an American that would make my top five at this moment in time, not Spieth, not Kuchar, and not even Bubba Watson, who's won two of the last three Masters, and certainly not Phil Mickelson. And I don't see any of the top Americans even challenging at the U.S. Open at Pinehurst unless Phil Mickelson goes in the "way back machine". That's how thin I think the top American players are, in terms of depth at this point.
      So I think that, unless Tiger returns to form upon his return, I don't think we'll see an American move to the top of the sport for some time, and there's a doubt whether or not even Tiger can get back up there at 39 (I think he can).

    • @idonthaveswag
      @idonthaveswag 10 лет назад

      ***** come on now, Bubba is definitely top five

    • @cjs83172
      @cjs83172 10 лет назад

      He's too wild and inconsistent to be in my top five. On his game, there's no doubt he's a top-5 player, maybe even a top-3 player. But he can unravel faster than just about any top player (as was seen in the Memorial), which is why he's not in my top five, even though he's ranked third in the official world rankings. Bubba's almost certainly the best American player now, but he's too wildly inconsistent to be in my top five. That is why I do not have any American in my top five right now with Tiger gone.
      And I think it's going to be a long time before we see an American on top of the golfing world, unless Tiger does what Jack did in 1980 (which was to post record-setting wins in both the U.S. Open and the PGA Championship at the age of 40), which is highly doubtful, given his current physical condition, because I do not see another American that can ascend to the top for quite some time, and that even includes Jordan Spieth.
      Golf is headed right toward what is was in the 80s and early 90s, which was international dominance, sprinkled with occasional American wins in major championships (most likely the U.S. Open), just as it was from about 1985-'96. (The biggest winners in major championships among Americans from 1981-'99 were Tom Watson, Larry Nelson, and Payne Stewart.)

    He's already a 2 time major champion at only 22 years old, he seems ahead of his time.. He's currently leading the 2016 masters shot a 66 in the 1st round, and is -6.. The 1st player since jack nicklaus to be leading the 1st round as a defending champion.. Equaled tiger woods record of 72 n 1997, n the second youngest US open winner.. Exciting times ahead, the world of golf hopefully n could have a another dominator

      Or possibly another golfing icon with the same initials (T.W.), Tom Watson. In fact, I find it ironic that they're going to the Byron Nelson, considering what's been written about Jordan's inability to finish off a tournament. I say that because after Watson shot a 79 after leading the 1974 U.S. Open at Winged Foot after three rounds, Byron Nelson went to Tom and offered him help, and he accepted. And although he collapsed again in the 1975 U.S. Open, he won the British Open later that year, and from 1977-'82, he engaged the greatest player of all-time, Jack Nicklaus, four times in major championships. Watson won all four of those showdowns. Spieth is now facing those exact same questions after not being able to close out both the Masters and the Players Championship. Not to mention that Spieth has difficulty finding the fairways, but has the short game Watson did, something Watson even acknowledged recently.
      Wouldn't it be fun if Tiger returned healthy and history repeated itself, with Spieth challenging Tiger. We already know he's not afraid of Tiger, as evidenced by the 63 he shot in Tiger's presence at Torrey Pines earlier this year (he did the same with Phil Mickelson when he shot a 62 when he was paired with Phil late last year). The one thing many like about him is the fact that he tries to play a tactical game, while being aggressive at the same time. When he misses, it's often in the right spot. You don't go 73 holes without a bogey over two events, one more than the equivalent of a full tournament, with 58 of those holes being in the Player's Championship, without strategizing your misses, and being able to get out of trouble with a top-notch short game. If he ever figures out how to finish out a tournament in front, look out. As Johnny Miller said at the Players Championship, if he ever improves his ball striking, he'll be the best player in the world.

    • @YapMunKheong
      @YapMunKheong 10 лет назад +4

      ***** yeah well said. In my opinion with jordan skill at present he may even better than tiger at the old time. The golfing world is highly competitive with all the advance technology and scientific aids. His consistency is outstanding!

    • @cjs83172
      @cjs83172 10 лет назад +2

      And almost unprecedented. You have to go back to Tiger, and before that, Jack to find someone that constantly was among the leaders. The one thing they had that he doesn't is power. Jordan's a middle-distance hitter in today's era, but he has one thing the other great champions do, and that's heart. And if Jordan does become a dominant player, that could change how the game is played back to the way it was before Tiger came onto the scene.
      Remember that in the years before Tiger came along, most of the majors were won by guys who weren't much longer than average off the tee, but managed their games. Men like Faldo, Olazabal, Crenshaw, Kite, Strange, Langer, etc. were astute tacticians, as well as having the knowledge of how to score well enough to win, despite not having great power. Jordan (or any other middle-distance hitter that becomes a dominant player) could bring the game back to that, which I think would benefit the game because it would widen the field of players that could win the major events.
      Another thing I've noticed about him is that he doesn't overswing the club. Even though he's scattershot more often than he would prefer, it doesn't appear that it's because he swings too hard. There's a reason guys like Sam Snead, Ben Hogan, and Julius Boros were competitive into their early and even mid 50s in an era when there wasn't all that much technology. They never overswung the club. To me, there's no surprise that Greg Norman and Tiger Woods ran into injury problems. Both had (or have) violent swings.
