I got to know Dann for awhile at the beginning of Giant when I lived in LA. He was the nicest guy and I even got to play his rig at one of Giant's rehearsals. I saw Giant twice during their first album tour. Absolutely amazing.
@@MikeBradleyofficial he is an amazing producer and lives in Nashville. He has produced some really big names and albums. I look back fondly on those LA days.
I discovered Dann Huff through the Giant albums and from there my awareness of the man was expanded when I learned that he was a session player. - Dann's skills blew my twenty-something mind. I've often referred to him as my second favourite guitarist of all time. It's taken over 20 years but the internet is starting to give Dann the love he deserves; a simple search will take you to the instructional video you mentioned (as I have seen it too) and there are several long-form interviews/chats with him kicking around also. A recent video posted by Vertex Effects gave us no less than 2 hours of chat with Dann about his amazing career. As a sweetener I'll say that Dann also let his guitar do some of the talking; it'll have you grinning from ear to ear. 😀
Huff is probably the most under-rated player of the 80s. Not “in the business” but among the general population. I loved the first Giant album. It still holds up too.
Prior to the LA scene he was in the Christian Nashville scene. He and his brother were in the original lineup of White Heart, which was kind of like a Christian Toto in terms of how much studio work they each did. The musicianship of that stuff holds up well. Check out "You're the One" and "Go Down Ninevah" from the 1982 debut and the ballad "Quiet Love" and not ballad "Undercover" from the album Vital Signs. He left White Heart in '84 to become an LA studio wizard and when he left suggested they hire his high school friend Gordon Kennedy -- you know, the guy who later co-wrote Change the World by Eric Clapton... As a teenage drummer and singer, I spent a lot of hours playing to those White Heart records.
Amazing guitarist with an amazing rock voice. I always thought it was a shame he didn’t do more with Giant. They released a new album this year, and it’s very good, but it’s just not the same without Dann. And you’re right, a real studio legend. Maybe the only guy that Luke ever felt threatened by. 🤣
When the first film came out a friend told me it was one of the greatest films he'd ever seen. The wife and I saw it. Neither of us were impressed. So to answer your question...me.

That’s amazing thank you for sharing. I’ve heard by more than a few that he’s a lovely guy. Hopefully our paths will cross one day.
