Did one of these in an Smax few years ago with engine cold & no slide hammer pure torture & then left injector just at top of hole overnight & it stuck again!! I nipped up the other three injector clamps at same time & they didn't give trouble after. Keep em coming.
Top marks Baz for owning up, genuine mistakes like this keep us on our toe's and kicks complacency out the door no matter what job we are doing. Subscribed!
Good job and good example of injections coming out 👍or staying in👎 once I get one moving I find them to come out easier with a bit of help from Diana Ross and start the singing process 👍 😉
I recon it only started chuffing after they went to the shops in it , about 6 months ago 😂😂😂, it would stink of diesel fumes , but we've all had them like that , the first one came out pretty easily , it's funny what you say about the seat cutter being a bit tight in the sleeve , it's ace when the grub screw comes undone and spins on the shaft and your hoping it comes out with it on removal 😂😂😂, great job as usual Baz 👏👏👍
I say to my lad all the time if your tightening something up and someone comes in just continue what your doing and finish that before you do anything else 👍
Worst smell delivering diesel fuel to a chicken factory the tank was next to the chicken fat / scraps put. The diesel was like a fragrant after shave compared to it. After that EP 80/90 axle oil you can wash it out of your clothes, it honks
You have just reminded me that I need to reseal one of the injectors on my car with the same engine. It was chuffing when I bought it, just retorqued the bolt, and it stopped. New seals were bought but never fitted.... Personally I turn the engine over without the injector fitted to blow any debris out.
Worst smell? Changing the gearbox oil in the 2010 Clio I bought my daughter for her first car. Stink was so bad, I whacked my head on the control arm trying to get away from the smell! Fantastic clean up of that car Baz😊
Mate you must never stop working! Always got cars on the go and editing videos must keep you up till late? Make sure you take time to rest now and then
I have learnt a lesson there Baz even though you could have replaced the injector oil seal on cylinder 1"Because it wasn't chuffing you left it alone, if it does leak in the future I hope it's not a pig to get out, strange though it seems to be seized a bit more than the other injectors stuck in by the carbon, I don't think people realise just how difficult they can be to get out, I told you resently about my experience with injector seals on a 1.6 TD.CI ENGINE " one thing" I did learn was to check the 7mm bolts that keep the injectors in place & just by feel slightly just tighten them if they were loose especially on the 1.6 tdci engine. I enjoyed the video
Very nice job on that cleanup there Baz! Gear oil is the worst smell for me but I could almost smell the carbon through the screen. 🤣 I did quite a few of these jobs on the old 16v DV6's back in around 2010. They had little M7 studs with the torx head that always snaps off. Allen nuts on top that only torque up to about 7Nm if i remember correctly, and they always came loose. I used to torque them up to about 9-10NM after the cleanup and it seemed to help without causing other problems. Think i need one of those needle guns!
Wish you were local to me in Cardiff! Paid nearly £300 to have glow plugs in my qashqai replaced , was getting the exhaust back pressure warning on dash, the garage even said it was probably the metal pipe blocked up behind it. They had the car 3 days, couldn’t unblock the pipe and had no desire to replace it. Warning light back on! Will have a go myself or get it into another garage. They’ve lost my trust 🤬
Ye I understand that, how ever only time in 25 years I've ever replaced hp fuel lines is when the rot, I've never had any problems. I must have fitted thousands of injectors or removed them for engine work over the years.. but yes to the book you should
Another Baz fix which is great, i pulled some injectors out of a Freelander 1 in September 2024 and the carbon build up was incredible, cleaned all debris around each injector before removal only one had to have the slide hammer used on it, as you say it's always best to remove injectors with the engine hot if possible, helps them come out easier, I have the re-cutting tool but have not used it yet was a bit worried about the metal shavings going into the port hole and engine, how can this be avoided do you anyone else know if let us know, thank you for all your knowledge and sharing it with us mortals.
Worst smell to have on your overalls is diff oil from buses or hydraulic oil when changing tandem pumps. The lads from your workshop will probably say the smell of exhaust fumes from cars you keep idling in the shop in every video...
I deffo need to get a me a mini needle scaler 👌🏽 would save a load of time tryna scrape the last bits out, usually use a old Henry hover 😂 and bunch of picks to suck the debris out Worst smells for me would definitely be old washer fluid being sprayed in the face testing Wipers 🤣 & gearbox oil
The state of the top of that engine, how could the owner have ignored the chuffing sound from that leaking injector for so long, even allowing the plastic engine cover to become trashed? Just as well top man Baz was on the case to do the most amazing job of cleaning all that carbon off, as well overhauling the injectors!
Back in 2000-2002 there was a recall on discovery steering boxs the fluid landrover use in the power steering was stinking you could wash your hand ten times still smell it
I have just replaced my 2007 Mondeo with a 2012 that has this engine fitted. I thought the old one was great but this new engine is so much smoother and quieter, and has much better low down torque. :) As for the chuffing, can you hear it before that injector cover gives up?
Hi Baz , really enjoying watching your vids , you make it look so easy ! How did you get on with your car sat afternoon ,did you manage to get on with it washing it ? What do you drive ! Thanks for all your great content 👍
My crv had a slight leak on the diesel leak off pipes and I could smell that straight away in the cabin. I dono how this person was driving with all that up front 😮
I can smell this video now! My dad had a 1.6 TDCI Cmax, and that smelled because of a leaking injector seal, each time I sat in it I got a headache! Eventually he got the injector seals replaced! I work for a well known gearbox manufacturer, and I know the gear oil smell you own about! It's horrible, I end up going home smelling of it! 🤮😂
I remember walking into a gearbox reconditioning place and the whole place just stinks of it. It almost makes me gag, it smells like gas or stale beer + B.O or something and it lingers. even the washing machine stinks of it after.
If you had your own car show on the BBC , l would start watching BBC again, as l haven't watched the BBC since the hamster, may, Clarkson left top gear.
I could yes, but I choose not to. Because there is mechanics out there that will be watching and I could be either faster or slower and I'd hate to turn anything into a competition, it's when things go wrong buddy.. hope this makes sense
Ah the good old mechanics book of how long a job should take, thrown that in the bin years ago. And never take short cuts to do a job, nice video as always and nice to see pride in your work.
I've recently worked on a wonderful beautiful 2.0 ingenium range rover sport with two blowing injectors, I cleaned all the carbon deposits cleaned the bores and re seated with new washers yet they still blow. Any ideas or help 🤟
What sort of miles had it covered? I have that engine in a 2017 Focus. Mine has just turned 47,000 miles. Engine is a clean as you would want . How do you avoid that mess that teh Kuga Had?
@@leesmith10uk100 I got lucky with a stuck Renault Trafic (M9R) one. I bought a threaded puller with a 24mm nut and inch thick bar that screws onto the injector, it almost stripped the thread and snapped my breaker bar but it did just about go! Such a big relief when it moves...
@@bazmeredith I had someone come to my garage last week , he asked could I do a timing belt kit and waterpump on a mondeo diesel 1.6 , I said yes , but he would have to book it in , I quoted him a price including parts , he then said "no mate ,I got all the parts init mate !", which I then replied no sorry if I am not supplying the parts , I am not doing the job , he said 'all genuine bro init , I got um trade price from Ford dealers from me mate ,he's got garage but busy init " , I politely replied , well you will have to wait for him as I am not doing it ,end of story , explaining about possibly wrong parts bring supplied , then if they fail he will expect me to replace them free !
A case of the ole black death. I used to give old mercs a wide birth with it. Not worth it as too many potential problems from someone who isnt as fastidious as Baz.
Off the top of my head I reckon diesel cars make up the majority of your videos, the older ones used to be much more reliable, I would for this reason think twice about buying one now
If only people would repair at the first signs of a problem, No let's keep driving it till sounds like a steam train lol !!

I used carburettor cleaner to shift the black death on our mondeo - the plastic cover for the injectors is rather expensive.
Great video. Why can't techs put all the tools back? It looked brand new after you finished. Great job

dont worry baz your still amazing keep up the good work
Wow, that was job and half mate. Nice meeting you Baz and I hope that wasn't me who distracted you to leave the fuel line loose.
Was a pleasure to meet you to, and no it's an easy mistake buddy
You’re a master at work. Love your content man 🔥.
Should always fit new high pressure lines torqued up but always enjoy watching this channel.

@portzi2 🤣🤣🤣
Worst smell we had in the motor trade was a guy that used to eat beans for his tea every night.
Gearbox oil was like lavender compared with him.

You'd smell the fumes
Another great vid, thanks Baz.
The absolute worst smell was supercharger oil from a mini cooper r53. Its so horrible I cannot even describe it.
Ah yes I know it well 😵
Common on the euro 5 engine. Normally broken injector clamps. The euro 4 before it was bullet proof.
The wet ones (diesel pools) usually come out easy enough. dry ones baked with carbon nightmare
Mint cleaning job
9:24 the sad face on the fuel rail 😂
Got a landrover ingenium engine to do shortly for injector tick
The chains quiet tho so bonus 😂
It sound like the car could benefit with a new starter motor as it sounds a little screechy
Great video shame all that work for 4 copper washers
I find acetones washes it away no problem - but it seems to get frowned on - plastics and all that, but never had problems
That was proper bad looks just like sprinter ones when they go. Well done mate another one smashed out 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Cheers buddy 🤙
Always good to see the master machanic and his bottle of elbow grease .

Baz send me the tool to clean the spot pls 👍🏻
Baz, have you got one of them pneumatic injector removers? They're a great job when you have the room, mine is yet to be beaten 😂

Patience and a little bit of time
Diff oil stinks! Had to replace all the boot panels in the wife’s Prius after spilling the contents of a diff in it 🙄
Just noticed the fish finger tattoo classic 😂
Worst smell….. ? I work with bowel patients ….. you can guess my worst workplace smell……
Subaru lineartronic gearbox oil, smells awful, expensive at £300.00 for twenty litres, but what a brilliant bit of engineering.
The oil I put in the discovery the other day that was £200 for 8 liters and that stank as well
Why did you not STEAM CLEAN the engine before you started????
Steam cleaning isn't getting carbon off buddy

We don't fit customers supplied parts due to insurance and warranty reasons unfortunately

💯 agree on the smell 😂
Chuffing hell 😜🤙🏻
Euro sell normfest inject crack. Best stuff I've used to dissolve the tar

Nice
Wow chooo chooo Thomas
Old diff oil......
It’s sort of a Tarmac smell, horrible. And I hate EP90 as well 🤢
Gearbox oil is worse smells like cat piss
Rubbish diesel cars.
Why is there so much carbon around the injector and on the head?..
