Know you know Baz, and we all do it, but for those watching, consider some specs when drilling above head height, a trip to A&E to get swarf out your eye is even less fun than for stitches, ask me how I know 😂
its funny, all the times ive worked on my vehicles ive removed the negative cable from the battery,i never thought of just taking off the earth cable off the firewall..much easier to do,thanks, learn something new every day..
Had a bimmer in today for work - I've serviced a lot of cars, never seen an oil filter coated with a solid, toffee consistency layer of hardened oil, 5mm thick, all over the filter. Took a screwdriver to dig down into it to get to even see the filter paper. Zero oil was passing through that filter. Nada. Dropped the "oil" & it was the consistency of tapioca. All 3 liters of it. Going by the drain plug, the filter housing & just general nouse, I reckon that this car had never had an oil change since new. 140k km on the clock. Service book all stamped up to date nice & purty... Brakes were in no better state. A lot of garages out there pulling peoples plums IMO, Baz - they get the bills, but not the work done. You will know this yourself.
Baz great video and presentation, you’ve blown us all away with your quality services, just wish people do proper maintenance on their eco boost engines ,💪❤️
Great job Baz, about time we saw one that needed doing😁. Camshafts and lifters all good confirmed by the Singer Standard Aural Test, sometimes we use a mouse's heartbeat as a reference when the sewing machine is out for calibration😆😆. And the oil pressure light went out instantly, good call on the new pump. Your customer just got away with that!
CRACKING JOB THERE BAZ YOU LOOK BETTER WITH YOUR GLASSES ON I HEARD WET BELTS ON FORD ARE A NIGHT MARE MATE HOPE YOU HAD A GOOD WEEKEND ON YOUR BIKE 🏍 😀
Great save Baz, loving the time lapse, just wondering if you've thought about a mic, as sometimes when you put the camera down and explain things its difficult to hear you. Keep up the good work mate🤙
Great description of what looks to be a difficult job. It looks like you go the extra mile in cleaning out all filters, advising the customer and replacing all parts whilst you’re in there. I wonder how many other garages would do that?
I think the extended service intervals of 18000 miles between oil changes does not help with the wet belts. I use the Ford labelled Castrol 5w20 every 12 months and I am only doing between 4000 - 5000 miles a year but mainly short journeys. Hopefully this will delay the inevitable failure as long as possible.
Good save Baz, that was proper blocked, loving the time lapse, we get to see you taking things off, although we do like a little bit of magic when it puts itself back together, also just wandering if you though about a mic as sometimes when you put your camera down and you explain things its sometimes difficult to hear. Keep up the good work mate 🤙
Saved another one. Baz, in a situation like this will you be having a friendly word with the owner about maybe changing the oil a little more frequently or do you not bother?
Super knowledge you have on these engines. I am at the moment stripping one down due to the piston skirt snapping off of the bottom of piston 1, and hopefully changing the belts on a 14 plate. Has full service history and other than the skirt problem it is clean as a whistle with no belt debris to be seen. Anyone had the same problems with a skirt snapping?
Baz, there's also a mesh strainer in the "Oil Pressure Control Solenoid" that can block with wet belt debris. This solenoid is on the rear of the engine block, beside the plug where the crank timing pin screws in. There's a Dayco instruction video on RUclips "Garage Wire" Channel showing this solenoid being removed to check and clean the mesh strainer.
@@offbeatwarble I only know about the mesh strainer on the Oil Pressure Control Solenoid of the Ford 1.0 litre Ecoboost engine. I don't know anything about the 1.6 ti-vct Sigma engine, if it has similar filters or where they might be located.
Good news for customers though, all those with vehicles under 10 years old, under 150k and have FSH from any independant garage get this done under goodwill from now on by ford
Just found you channel and i feel like I'm already a wet belt expert 😂 one question what's up with the accent and the the steering wheel on the wrong side though 🤔🤔🤣🤣 on a serious note why would you get rid of a dry timing belt??? Ford WTH falling apart at 60k
Baz weren't you tempted to remove a mains or big end cap to inspect the shell bearing's. I would of thought by doing this you would know if it was worth proceeding with the job.
I don't know if its such a popular thing these days but you almost wonder if its been wound back at some point in its life before being sold and it has done more like 90K. That is bad. I've yet to work on one of these but might keep my eye for a "spares and repairs" that needs some work. I've seen that many of these done on YT by now.
Top job as always. I realise the camshafts are the last place to get oil hence the decision that if the cams are unmarked the engine is probably ok. Did you consider removing a big end to check bearing condition as they are the last place in the main bearing / big end line of oil flow? Clearly with the light going out so quickly all is well but interested in your perspective.
I was led to believe it had just happened with the light, so many things I could have pointed out in the video... If the crank had any signs of blue marking I would have pulled a cap off and looked the crank, and again with the cams, if any metal fillings were in the pick up I would have checked it more thoroughly.
Baz, in your last wet belt video and this one too, you took off the vacuum pump to clean out the filter which was also full of belt material. Assuming removing that is a much easier job than dropping the oil pan, is the vacuum pump filter state a reliable indicator of belt health?
They are covered up to 10 years 100k for wet belt failure. Car needs full service history dosnt need to be ford dealer service history, year 2020 is allowed to be missing due to covid, and you get 3 months leeway either side of the service due dates to be covered. Obviously we don't know the service history on this car to determine that.
@derekfleming3095 my mistake lol you are correct 150k up to 10 years on the same action notice, Ford mentioned a reduction on change interval for the transit wet belt going from 150k to 100k. I knew there was 100k in there somewhere lol
I have a fiesta 1.0L ecoboost. It is about 10 years old and has done just over 73k miles. It has never had a wet belt replacement but it has also been properly looked after. All services done on time, only ever taken directly to Ford for servicing. Only ever had the officially recommended oil used on it. Even for small things such as new heat shields, the work has been done only at Ford garages. What are the chances my belt is bad? I could not afford to get a replacement but that also means I couldn't afford to repair if it is bad enough to go 'boom'...
I wouldn't like to say sorry if I said it was good and it failed I'd have given you wrong advice and made me look bad, but any doubt by yourself please get it changed
I have a 2013 Fiesta Econetic, is there anyway to checking if the wetbelt has been changed, bought at 95k. It's now on 120k. It's had services every 10-12k miles, so I'm hoping it can make 150k miles. Is 150k possible on the original wetbelt
