Super Mario World will always be my favorite Mario game to play. I've played it on the SNES and every system that I've been allowed to download it on via the e-shop. I don't know how many times I've played that game, but I still remember how to do some of the secrets in the game.
Watching this further enforces my opinion that the switch is the next HUGE step in Nentendo, BOTW was the Zelda that took bits from every Zelda and got rid of the stuff we didn't like. Mario Odyssey seems like it's going to be the Mario that takes bits from ever single Mario and makes an "ultimate" Mario game. I'm super excited to see how Odyssey turns out
Mr. ElectriDictator how did botw get rid of world building? Y does the story matter for Zelda. The stories are generally after thoughts and aren't that special anyway. Botw was like 100 steps forward with 3 steps backward
Nandi Moozle I didn't know we disliked weapons made of something stronger and more durable than cotton candy, having Companions (Fi, Midna, King of Red Lions, etc.), or having actual items like the Hookshot, Beetle, or Ball and Chain instead of 300 paper Sword cutouts. Also, the items that _did_ carry over are complete garbage now (except for like 2 bow types), we went from a controllable tornado that could hit 5 targets at once to a stick that hurts you of you throw it wrong, from a 3-meter fiery column of death and huge icicles to glorified Fire and Ice Flowers. Even the Hylian Shield sucks now.
I love me some Mario. My first games in the series was Super Mario Deluxe(SMB1 GBC) & Super Mario advance 2(SMW GBA). And I've grown to love them all. I have played all the 2d and 3d. But I have to say I have loved the new Super Mario Brothers series for the Wii and Wii U because it reminds me of the first time I picked up the controller playing back in the very early 2000s. I also get to play with my friends having two or three people playing on screen is a blast of classic couch Co-op that you just don't see anymore. I love every second of it. As I await Odyssey I remember those great times and memories I've made with Mario. Hope we get a new co-op Adventure before 2020 :) because I need a few more memories for me and my friends before adulthood takes them by the hand away from me. Good old Nostalgia keeps my gears going.
Galaxy and Galaxy 2 will always be my favorite, unless Odyssey surpasses it. I love all the Mario games, but the gameplay, the new ideas, and especially the soundtrack of the Galaxy games will always be close to my heart. I've also figured out how to play them in 1080p60 with a DualShock 4 and it is a DREAM!
Super Mario World will always be my favorite. I had it on the Super Nintendo, Gameboy Advance, Wii Virtual console, Wii U eshop, and now on my SNES classic edition. I'll probably buy it for the Switch as well.
This why gameranx is my favorite video games channel. I'm not a Mario fan but I can learn everything about it, like where it came from etc... because of you guys. So thank you for that video.
Super Mario Galaxy is my favorite video game I have played thus far. Mario in space gripped me from the beginning, with its cinematography and (still) awesome graphics. This game made me love space even more. Super Mario Galaxy’s title as my favorite video game I have ever played will most likely never be taken away, but I’ll still be there to enjoy every other Mario iteration that’s to come.
I've only ever played Super Mario Brothers 3, Super Mario Sunshine, both Super Mario Galaxies, the Mario game on the Wii, Mario Kart, and Mario Tennis, and my favorite is probably Super Mario Brothers 3, simply because it was my first Gameboy game, and I loved it, I played it many many times. Nostalgia and whatnot...
Idk it's very hard bc I really enjoy the 2d Mario but I loved galaxy and I'm hype for oddesesy. 3d world definelty wasn't the best to me but any game where Mario was in I really enjoyed. Sooo I guess it's really hard to choose.
jayn1205 probably didn't mention it since it was a spin-off. Kinda like the how the sports games are spin-offs too. Paper Mario is just a different genre of Mario spin-offs
Yeah he kinda is. You may not want to believe it because of your bias, but looking back at history the shroomed out plumber pulled video games out from being a dying fad into a multi-billion dollar industry. remember Nintendo made playstation and playstation made xbox.
D3ADEYE I thought you need a secret cave leaf, found only in the depths of Haiti where the Fire Nypmhs are hungry at most only to find out it was all a distraction as Gary collected the real leaf with the true antagonist, Yoshi.
I hear Mario saying his typical lines all the time in my head. Every time I close my eyes, I see him running and jumping etc. I´m addicted to the new game before it actually came out. Damn you Nintendo.
in donkey kong thats not mario its the father of mario and luigi and the donkey kong that appears we know him as cranky kong its a whole diferent generation
Dipsy The Teletubby No it’s pretty obvious the Donkey Kong in Donkey Kong is Cranky Kong even Nintendo kinda confirmed this However Mario in the Donkey Kong being Mario and Luigi’s Grandfather? Yeah that isn’t real
Super Mario Galaxy was the first game I ever pre-ordered, because once I saw the first trailer for it I was awe struck. It was completely different than anything I had ever seen. It simply looked fun. And it delivered on every expectation. In super mario 64 it was just simply fun to run and jump around in this big new world that they gave you and that's why it's still fun to go back and play again and again. Super Mario Galaxy delivered even greater in this department. The first time I long jumped and watched as Mario began to orbit the planet, it was just absolute and pure fun. I still have fun going back and playing it again and again!
I need a mario sunshine 2 in my life! they even set it up for a sequal, at one point in the game you see a map of the island, and it has surrounding islands just as large... the resort feel was amazing, the music set the mood for each level perfectly and the pump added some cool gameplay functions and im curious to see what new add ons the F.L.O.O.D could have
Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 are always going to be my favorite mario games. With the release of A Hat in Time, it really makes me want to go back and play them again..
the amazing thing is you guys don’t just show some gameplay clips from the first game all the way to the last mario game like every channel you guys do something more than that you guys are the best
2B lol dumbass I'm in America and I'm not Saudi Arabian. If you were logical you would know that when you're early to a video it hasn't finished processing the video, rendering it at 360p for around 10 minutes
Super Mario world on Super Nintendo just brings me back to being a kid, playing with my older cousin Marty. I always thought he was so cool, he knew all the secrets. Oh what I would give to be a kid again.
Great video as always guys but I noticed a lot of audio crackling on some of the off beats of some words. I used speakers and headphones to make sure it wasn't just my computer and I heard it on both. That being said lovely to get a full look at the history of Mario and i hope this series goes on!!!
I loved the video. It was such a blast from the past seeing all my favorite Mario’s. At the very end you said water vacuums (Mario sunshine) but then it click in my head that Luigi’s Haunted Mansion wasn’t in there. I know that not all the Mario’s were in there (no reason for adding things like super smash bros in there) but it really seems like you missed on on some good topics with Luigi’s Mansion
It was Super Mario World that gave me my first video game experience. From that day, I loved video games and Nintendo. My favorite three franchises are: Mario, Zelda, and Donkey Kong.
Super Mario Bros was my favorite, I must have played that game hundreds (maybe thousands) of times when I young! It's all I used to play all day everyday.
My two most favorite Mario games are Super Mario Bros. Wii and Super Mario Galaxy. I played those two games for hours on my Wii console and I loved it.
My favorite Mario game has to be Super Mario Galaxy. It was actually the first Mario game I ever played, and it's been my favorite ever since! I listen to the soundtrack of it all the time, the levels are sometimes hard but in a good way, and it introduced Captain Toad, who happens to be my favorite Mario character. I know that the game is about 10 years old now, but it will always be my favorite no matter what. I'm really hoping for Galaxy 3 on the Nintendo Switch in the future. I have a few hopes for what Nintendo includes in it if they do make it, so I really hope that if they do make it, it'll turn out great!
Omg yes, I agree!! Although my first game was Super Mario 64, and my favorite character is Rosalina, but yes!! Galaxy will always have a special place in my heart.
Super Mario World and Sunshine are tied. World because I have so many memories of my dad and I playing and just the sheer fun of playing makes it so good. But Sunshine had my favorite locations, flood was the best power-up/companion, and it had the most amazing atmosphere and music in any Mario game. Both games, 10/10, can't decide.
You forgot to mention, what in my opinion is one of the biggest advancements in in Mario this generation compared to the previous ones, and that is the fact that Mario now has nipples. Truly and literally game changing.
I have never noticed Mario having different coloured clothing throughout his 2D games until you now pointed it out to me and that blows my mind, I guess I've never payed attention to what colours he's wearing....
64 is my favorite because its the game that made me fall in love with gaming. I have so many fond memories of it and one of the few games i was actually able to play and beat even before i fully understood how to play a game. I am so excited for the new Mario it is the main reason i have a switch
I’ve only played super mario bros. 1-3, world and yoshi’s world, I loved all of them. Super mario odyssey is the first 3D mario game that I’ll be playing and my anticipation for it is really high.
Super Mario Brothers. I played that one first, so many memories growing up. We cant afford NES back then, so we had to rent one. Scrapes some money with my brother. Good times.
Man my favorite Mario game is super Mario sunshine. Loved that game. Really hope they do a HD remake in the future. Would love to play it on the switch with HD updated graphics
One thing about Mario title screens...they always do a great job of demonstrating the mechanics and whatever is new to the game...from Mario Bros. on, each game adds a new skill or ability for Mario, ans he can always do more than in the last game and the title screen always communicates that so well.......
Sunshine will always be my favorite. The atmosphere is serene and beautiful.
Jo King
agreed
Jo King Bro yes. I regret not beating that game.
I couldnt get past that god damn giant sand bird in the sky
Same
Freddy The Sandbird is easy, The secret levels however, kicked my ass.
Cameron Hart what got me is the worm under the purple water that you have to clean the teeth of what ever it's called
Super Mario Sunshine is very underrated imo.
Cameron Hart I agree
I havent played it @A N G E R Y ! so I CANT WAIT TO TRY IT ON NINTENDO SWITCH :D

The first galaxy is hands down my favorite since it has the 3D platforming of 64, and puts it in space... and WHO DOESN’T LOVE SPACE!?!?
These "Evolution of" videos are always so well put together, I commend you Gameranx
Super Mario World will always be my favorite Mario game to play. I've played it on the SNES and every system that I've been allowed to download it on via the e-shop. I don't know how many times I've played that game, but I still remember how to do some of the secrets in the game.
I hate people who pronounce mario "marry-o"
Rex annoys the hell out of me, man
And this is why I do it
What are you going to do about it?
Rex
I do that! Fight me!
Thats the UK way of pronouncing it
*Do the evolution of Gameranx!*
that youtube guy! How? I doubt they have any BTS videos
Pac's Lil Homie whats BTS?
No.
Watch all the videos then you'll see (dabs)
I always see Mario as that one friend you know your entire life and is pretty much always there for you when you need him
Watching this further enforces my opinion that the switch is the next HUGE step in Nentendo, BOTW was the Zelda that took bits from every Zelda and got rid of the stuff we didn't like. Mario Odyssey seems like it's going to be the Mario that takes bits from ever single Mario and makes an "ultimate" Mario game. I'm super excited to see how Odyssey turns out
Nandi Moozle It also got rid of story and world building, in that regard it's 100 steps back.
Mr. ElectriDictator how did botw get rid of world building? Y does the story matter for Zelda. The stories are generally after thoughts and aren't that special anyway. Botw was like 100 steps forward with 3 steps backward
You cant say its a huge step when Nintendo always knows how to take a step back, still can't talk to people using only a Nintendo console
Nintendo finally did something good after a good 10 years
I love me some Mario. My first games in the series was Super Mario Deluxe(SMB1 GBC) & Super Mario advance 2(SMW GBA). And I've grown to love them all. I have played all the 2d and 3d. SMG 1&2 hit me the most. I can play those two over and over and never get tired.
I love this channel!!
Super Mario World will always be my favorite. I had it on the Super Nintendo, Gameboy Advance, Wii Virtual console, Wii U eshop, and now on my SNES classic edition. I'll probably buy it for the Switch as well.
Master chief and Mario are the best game protaganists
Said no one ever.
You are very far off with the first one.
This why gameranx is my favorite video games channel. I'm not a Mario fan but I can learn everything about it, like where it came from etc... because of you guys. So thank you for that video.
History of Hitman? Maybe? i dont know. Great video as always though!
gilerf Oohhh yesss! Hitman is awesome! There's a bunch of "evolution of Hitman" already on RUclips If you wanna check those out :p
I would kill to see a History of Hitman, sorry for the terrible pun, I'll see myself out.
gilerf yahshxbxbxbdndnsbull
Just from the intro, you can tell Gameranx put a lot of work and love into this video.
Mario doesn't need more than 360p.
Falcon is the reason I follow Gameranx. Such a nice way to present the art of games. God bless you man.
It bothers me slightly how you pronounced the word "iteration." It's not eye-teration it's it-eration.
Grimsikk That was irking me as well, you're not alone.
+Grimsikk To each his own.
Grimsikk same lol
Does it eye-rritate you?
Shut up hermione
Super Mario galaxy 2. First “3-D” Mario game I can recall playing, therefore it will forever hold a special place in my heart

360p lookin great
I didn't even notice until I saw this comment.
For me it's only letting me use 1080p 34 minutes after your comment...
The only quality I can load..
Mario Galaxy is so awesome..... I still remember hopping on my Wii everyday after school just to play that game for hours.
Nice!! Finally a video on RUclips talking about the history of Mario!! We haven't seen these a ridiculous amount of times before at all!!!
Game theorists anyone?
Actually my first one
Nice!! Finally a sarcastic and cunty comment on RUclips!! We haven't seen these a ridiculous amount of times before at all!!!
Just because someone else already did something, doesn't mean you can't try to make one better. I thought it was a good video idea anyways
Super Mario 3D World was a true gem. My favorite as of now. Such a beautiful game with great level design and top notch music.
Paper Mario?
jayn1205 Super Paper Mario was my shit even though it was kind of bad
jayn1205 and super Mario advance and super Mario advance 2
jayn1205 probably didn't mention it since it was a spin-off. Kinda like the how the sports games are spin-offs too. Paper Mario is just a different genre of Mario spin-offs
Robbie Harper They were ports....
Sunshine was amazing. Such A big world with so many different mechanics and things to do. Really miss those days
Mario never ate Italian Food, just a mushroom
Luigi likes eating lotsa spaghetti, though.
Pesky plumbers
SUPER MARIO BROTHERS 2 BABYY !! THE KING IS BACK !
Mario is life
Netflixmaster 64 Not really
Yeah he kinda is. You may not want to believe it because of your bias, but looking back at history the shroomed out plumber pulled video games out from being a dying fad into a multi-billion dollar industry. remember Nintendo made playstation and playstation made xbox.
No
Never realized the old games were actually that old I still have them and play them sometimes.
Wait, what level does Mario evolve at?
1-2
you might need to get a mushroom but they're rare
D3ADEYE I thought you need a secret cave leaf, found only in the depths of Haiti where the Fire Nypmhs are hungry at most only to find out it was all a distraction as Gary collected the real leaf with the true antagonist, Yoshi.
IDK cuz I tried to catch mario but ran out of pokeballs I'm so mad 😫
I hear Mario saying his typical lines all the time in my head. Every time I close my eyes, I see him running and jumping etc. I´m addicted to the new game before it actually came out. Damn you Nintendo.
in donkey kong thats not mario its the father of mario and luigi and the donkey kong that appears we know him as cranky kong its a whole diferent generation
felipe fjuk that's debunked
Dipsy The Teletubby No it’s pretty obvious the Donkey Kong in Donkey Kong is Cranky Kong even Nintendo kinda confirmed this
However Mario in the Donkey Kong being Mario and Luigi’s Grandfather? Yeah that isn’t real
And also the girl there is supposed to be paulina
long live MARIO!!!! was a major part of my early gaming life and is still one of my personal favorites by Nintendo.
Jump man is actually marios father
Israel Hernandez thats not confirmed, thats just a good theory from game theorists
(NOT CANNON)
Nitch42 ^-^ in the second original donkey kong, i think jumpman falls to his death.
Super Mario Galaxy was the first game I ever pre-ordered, because once I saw the first trailer for it I was awe struck. It was completely different than anything I had ever seen. You skipped Super Mario rpg and Yoshis Island.
Cameron Hart Those are spin-off games.
Those are a different genre. He is only talking about the main series. Which is why Mario Kart wasn't mentioned.
+NVD 6432 Those are in the main series, they are also cannon.
DarkStar7564 main series as in gameplay and genre wise, not story.
if i may... Super mario world 2 ;D

Do any of you think that Super Mario Bros 2 is the best Mario game?
Colton Dempsey it was cool when I was a kid, had so many new mechanics

It's been awesome growing up with Mario, one of my first memories is the original Mario on NES

I will have to say sunshine, loved the bright and colourful scenery and the lighthearted story =)
One of my favourites is Mario and Luigi bowsers inside story. Cannot remember how many times I've played that through!
It was Super Mario World that gave me my first video game experience. From that day, I loved video games and Nintendo. My favorite three franchises are: Mario, Zelda, and Donkey Kong.
Super Mario 64 was my very first game ever on the Nintenda 64. I played and beat it so many times and never got bored of it. Ahhh good times!
