Petrolicious is truly one of a kind! their videos are allways top notch and refreshingly it's not just about pure horsepower but about the pure enjoyment of these fantastic machines! you don't need 1,000 + bhp to have fun! keep it up guys!
Maybe some people back then also said "modern cars suck. Long live the classics". And some people will say the same in 30 years time. Many of the "classics" from that era were nothing but very unsafe and almost dangerous to drive. So were most of that times muscle cars. It's only when they get a touch of modern tech (modern suspension, tires, brakes, etc) that they become cool and nice to drive. Or drive very occasionally, like this 911.
Jai my boy, you and I differ on the driving experience of both a 997-991 GTS Cabriolet, 997-991 GT3, Panamera Turbo and Turbo S, Late 80's 911's. if modern, Audi R8, among others. A Honda V6 coupe 6sp is fun too. Jai, you have to get back to your cars now. We won't bother you anymore.
I am absolutely captivated by your work! I can't adequately convey to you how much I love this channel. Your subjects are exquisitely wonderful car people. It is fantastic that these folks lovingly use and care for their amazing pieces of automotive history. Live long and prosper.
From minute 7:31 you captured the "essence" of driving for me. I really appreciate the sentiment of these videos. Man and machine on the open road = everything is right in the world, ableit only in our minds.
You know, I'll be honest... I was almost reluctant to click on this video. Not because I doubted the quality, but because I honestly didn't know how else Petrolicious would do a 911 video. I mean, there are quite a few on the channel so I just doubted how.... fresh... It would be. Less than a minute in and I laughed knowing damn well I should never second guess the people at Petrolicious. This is a FANTASTIC video. Well done.
This guy seems like one of the most fun guys to just go for a drive with, that Porsche and his love for it would make for a very memorable drive. Spike I'm sure I'm in a very long line, but just tell me when it's my day to go for a ride with you in your 911, because that would be amazing!
Wow! Feresten and "Dickie" Smothers just upped their street cred by a couple of notches... You're funny and talented, but you needed this one, Feresten.
Spike here. Since the car was delivered to the track in '68. There was no time to prep it properly. The store that sold number stickers was out of 8's so they used two "O's" It looked upside down in 68, so we did the same thing to this car. Authentic livery recreation.
Only Petrolicious quality could have profiled a guy with the same life, mindset and goals that I’ve been striving for decades to hit. Fantastic, so much more than just about the car!
I have subscribed to this channel a long time ago. Now I came back and I'm really surprised that this channel *still* has _only_ 500k subs! I mean the quality of the videos have always been like a 5M sub channel! They really deserve more!
I must say, I love all of these old cars that petrolicious has up on their channel but the problem is that I am 17 and can't afford any of these. When he was talking about how the race cars were worth nothing towards the end it made me feel a bit screwed over by the previous generation of car people. By the time I have an education and am making enough money to buy an old 356 or something, or something along those lines, they will all be worth so much that I will always be behind on cash. I see how little these things sold just a few years before I was born and it makes me quite sad. I know there will be future classics but currently they just don't hit the spot like 1960s sports cars :/
actually how you should look at things is like this....if you really like those cars you should work hard and try and make enough to buy one. Second, the fact they have gone up in price means there will be more surviving examples by the time you are old enough to buy one. No one buys their dream car while they are still a teen ;)
I have always said that if you hav'nt spent time on the Autobahn in Germany (especially in the 70s but anytime is acceptable) you do not have any awareness of the real world of Porsche,,,But this 68 911L makes the exception, it screams the Heart of Porsche.
Wait ...this is the joker that would infuriate me on “Car Matchmaker” Client-“My old white Camry isn’t cool , I want something sporty” Ferenstein- “Here’s a white Prius with cool black hubcaps”. Gosh that show sucked and he sucked in it..sorry.
Lets be honest: Some American petrolheads are as boring as Germans. Using this car to "driving around, have a coffee and talk about this experience" is lame. Go on track, challenge some other guys with similar cars! Thats what this machine is build for! For the rest there are Ferraris and Aston Martins.
The reasons that were expressed about the early air cooled Porsche is the reason why I opened my Independent Porsche Shop in 1980. Most if not all my customers were like this.
Ok ... so yes it's extremely rare and 1 of 5 but holy cow we also got a glimpse of a pretty badass VW bug ... man I'd like to know more about that vehicle also
What a beauty! And what an incredible story, You bought a car which you had for ten years on a photo and realized it afterwards...Thank you for sharing!
The sad part is, at one time you could by these kind of cars at a parking lot and many could afford one but now you need to be wealthy to buy one. As a car guy/girl your options keep diminishing rapidly.
The even sadder part is, old decrepit assholes bought these in the hundreds even thousands (when combined) knowing full well that one day their value will increase. Now a lot of racing cars or prototypes, or special cars in general are either rotten to the ground or in a very poor state. There's quite a few "junk" yards with such cars and not only in US. Obviously the biggest story is the one about those ~60 cars found in a guy's lot, but there's a lot more such cars just rusting away. And to triple the sad, some countries make it exceedingly hard to import or to restore cars regardless of what they are. In Japan, cars that would sell for heavy $ are being crushed or parked as abandoned cars that nobody could put on the road again.
Porsche ownership is positioned as high end and somewhat exclusive. The classics are unobtainable for most of us but if you're looking for a raw experience undiluted by modern technology all you need is an old car with potential and a commitment to make it feel special. Sink time, parts and money into it and you can get that feeling.
Our paths crossed back when I ran CBS Late Night & you were with Dave. Great video homage to a wonderful 911. My 1st Porsche, was a new 69 912 (because I couldn't afford a proper 911). Now I wish I had the 912 back. Congrats!
I was surprised to see Spike on Petrolicious. Spike is a true car guy with impeccable car taste. Love his show Car Matchmaker Where he tries to match people with cars. If you haven't watched it, check it out. I believe it's on Esquire network and Amazon video.
This is by far the best car channel on youtube. The production value and content is top notch. Great moves. Keep it up, proud of you.
H3h3
true. great videos editing places and cars
it's SLAAAAAMIN
Petrolicious is truly one of a kind! their videos are allways top notch and refreshingly it's not just about pure horsepower but about the pure enjoyment of these fantastic machines! you don't need 1,000 + bhp to have fun! keep it up guys!
Modern cars suck. Long live the classics.
all classics were modern cars once
+Hold Fast Films Sliced bread was "modern" once. Your point?

Yep, you need a new car for the daily but for the weekend....? what new car would you buy? Old car option always better!
I'm happy this guy has this car.
"I'm not a golfer..." I like this guy! Gearhead!
Each your video is masterpeace.

Oh, IDK.........a better car, for a change?????
I am absolutely captivated by your work! I can't adequately convey to you how much I love this channel. Your subjects are exquisitely wonderful car people. It is fantastic that these folks lovingly use and care for their amazing pieces of automotive history. Live long and prosper.

Beautiful car and wonderful video. Thanks to Spike for restoring this car and to Petrolicious for this superb video.
Great upload.
Porsches from this era are pure and so much fun to drive. I have a 1968 Targa which I've owned since 1996 and will never sell.
The super high production value of these videos is amazing! Thank you so much for making these videos. I enjoy every car and story.
This is one of the best car stories that I've ever heard!
Excellent production by Petrolicious - as always.
“I’m not a golfer, I can’t stand it”
I thought I liked Spike from his Hodinkee video, now I absolutely adore him
truly an irresistible car. Nice video

Excellent review and owner!
perfect film......there is no better channel for petrolheads
What's up with the upside down 8? Is it an optical illusion? Am I going crazy?
Spike here. Since the car was delivered to the track in '68. There was no time to prep it properly. The store that sold number stickers was out of 8's so they used two "O's" It looked upside down in 68, so we did the same thing to this car. Authentic livery recreation.
Haha I was wondering the same thing. Very cool car man!
Only Petrolicious quality could have profiled a guy with the same life, mindset and goals that I’ve been striving for decades to hit. Fantastic, so much more than just about the car!
Fantastic car. The sound is intoxicating and the Minilites actually look really nice on a vintage Porsche.

Excellent car sir! Love it. I'd love an old 911 but they are so expensive (in the UK at least).
Everywhere
Great video again Petrolicious!

The wonderful decision is living in that sunshine state with glorious driving roads! ❤
"Too loud" this guy married the wrong girl
you have a guardian angle and he led you to your dream = must be a good person !

This guy fucking wrote Seinfeld AND THE BEE MOVIE
@Spike I have watching this video many-a-time. Still love it and your authenticity. It's why I am a SCR fan.
The reasons that were expressed about the early air cooled Porsche is the reason why I opened my Independent Porsche Shop in 1980. Most if not all my customers were like this.
very nice video
Thanks again Petrolicious !! GREAT !!!
Don't ever sell it, Great story, thanks for sharing it,
Does sound nice
Ok ... so yes it's extremely rare and 1 of 5 but holy cow we also got a glimpse of a pretty badass VW bug ... man I'd like to know more about that vehicle also
What a beauty! And what an incredible story, You bought a car which you had for ten years on a photo and realized it afterwards...Thank you for sharing!
This one is particularly good.
This is the charm that keeps me returning to this channel over, and over again.
From one writer to another - you Sir, have good taste.
Congrats! Besides of my Porsche passion, every video are even getting better!
What's the name of the song in the beginnig of the film?
Whatever is similar to poetry, but not an actual poem, was the natural authentic script, that flowed in this video, thank you for your fine content.
thanks for this, and for all the videos
What a sublime car! That's simply wonderful!
Great story Spike! Petrolicious is the best way to tell it. Keep it up!
What a great car and what a great story. This is what I love about Petrolicious.
Beautiful videos as always
looks pristine
Good man, keep revving that baby as long as you can!

Yes, even a mk1 or mk2 golf gti are now going up in price. I can't believe that soon you wont be able to get those for cheap.

At the rate of sanitation modern cars are going those old cars will become expensive too I think
No soup for you!
Petrolious vids never disappoints me. Great one again !!.
911=race car for the road
Well, if you still have the car, hopefully you replaced those wheels with Fuchs.
You guys nailed it! Thanks for that!
Beaut!
Love this channel!
I love that car and the sound it makes.
Anyone else have the sound go mute on iPads halfway through these vids? Only happens on the delicious Petrolicious. Haven't found a fix yet.
Les images sont absolument sublimes ! J’adore votre chaine ❤
I love the old 911's.
One of your best yet. Love it. Keep up the great work! Cheers
Thank you for a great story!

I'd love to find some of the old Porsche posters
Paused at 0:16. Hit the like button. Resumed...... Wasn't wrong.
One of the best Petrolious videos, Spikes a very likeable car guy and clearly "gets it". Porsche is always good too 👌🏼
