With a full and heavy bag , press down on back hand rail and tilt entire vac back so that full bag touches ground and takes all the strain off the four bag attachment posts and grommets . I hope this was helpful . I have been meaning to add a video on this . Thanks , B&A .
Thank you for the great review Daniel, it looks like a good machine! I know that Billy Goat has been making garden vacuums for many years. I can understand wet leaves being difficult to pick up as they can become very heavy when they are full of water. I always the best way to clear leaves is to try and get out there each week on a regular basis, it makes the job much easier!
Daniel thank you so much for taking the time to post this, we have been considering one of these and watching this demonstration has been super helpful!
I found it helpful to mow the leaves first and then run the vacuum - really leaves a clean yard. I run the mower around in a circle to push the leaves into the center and don't vacuum the entire yard.

This was a great demo. Judging by the texture of the ground, it appears that it recently had rained which may have contributed to the lack of suction while using the leaf vac. The dryer the leaf, the better the suction and mulch process.
Daniel Snyder, thanks for posting. i have had my unit for about 3 years now. I don't use it as much as I first planned because I found, somewhat, of an alternative. I won't get into it right now. Please see my comments below. The video up to 12 minutes in doesn't represent a fair representation of the machine. This is for two reasons. The machine already had a very filled out bag. just like other common vacuums, power get reduced. At about 12:00, you can see the better job it does. People watching also have to realize these leaves are WET and they are very heavy. The machine clogging, yes, it does but only when the bag gets pretty full and it doesn't get clear after emptying the bag. When dealing with wet leaves, you can't attempt to fill the bag as much as with dries leaves. Emptying the bag, this is what I do. (1) dismount the bag prior to opening the beg. I do this by tilting it as when you guys check for obstruction. this puts the bag on the floor and the snapping of the bag comes off VERY EASILY that way. (2) find another container or something a bit taller or same of the container where you are dumping it. This will work as a surface to place the bag (3) remove the bag completely from Billy Goat and place it on that secondary container (works as a surface (4) place your debris container next to the elevated bag (5) open the bag and dump the debris. (6) close bag and mount it back on the billy goat. i hardly drop anything on the floor this way and make the transition of the debris easy.
Thanks Dan for your review. I bought mine today minus the wood chipper. I spent an hour picking up maple leaves and it worked great! This sure beats messing with rakes and tarps. Have a great 2018 Fall season.
Excellent review, thanks for posting. I can't say I was impressed with the performance initially, but the unit appeared to do an excellent job on the lawn.
+Daniel Snyder I was just about to mention about the half throttle, why use a machine to 50% its potential ? also If you unplugged the spark plug boot then you wouldn't have to worry about turning the machine off , very unsafe to just trust chance and stick your hand into the propeller chamber just because the machine is off. This is how careless "Accidents" happen.
i have one and i can say that it 100% picks up all leaves, dirt, etc. Now here is the problem->> as you walk behind it you will get blasted by all the dust it also picks up, head to toe. You basically would have to wear a hazmat suit behind it. In other words, basically roll in dirt and then jump in a cyclone with dirt swirling and breath in deep. Was a total waste of $, as I never use it EVER. I let 2 friends borrow it as well (without telling them problems) , they both said the exact same thing at me, and one of them cursed me out (lol). Billygoat, if you read this and have a solution, please tell me. I bought mine used (basically new condition) from someone who was moving away.
I passed on the Billy Goat. Yes they are proven machines, however for me the major drawbacks are the height adjustment is not convenient and the bag fills from the bottom.
Just my opinion but I think you'll get the MAX out of this system if you purchase the additional accessories with confidence! This has the potential to be a seasonal business all by itself and thus a lucrative side revenue stream.
Thanks! Good review. Appreciate it. I have large walnut and maple trees and was wondering how this might fair against those. The leaves (and walnuts /husks) are typically moist and thus i have had issues with other machines. (Hand vacuums, and sun joe leaf shredder) this having a more commercial industrial feel with metal impeller might do me better. But its hars to justify the price as i would only use it for home and its not for business use.
I never get an answer when I ask about pine needles. My regular law mower will pick up leaves...but pine needles are my big problem. So I will ask you does the Billy Goat pick up and mulch pine needles and pine cones?
From our experience, when dry it would pick up these items. We did find that it would pick up some wet needles but they would cause clogging more times than not.
Didn't look superior to my Cub Cadet for the extra money. Bag looked like a pain the ass. The Cadet got a few bad features but it's lighter than this but not a self-propelled. I'm not crazy about the Cadet but I would use it before I bought the Billy Goat.
I've got a very big yard and the entire area is forested. Water stands on about 1/8 of the back portion for a good amount of the fall and winter especially if there is leaf coverage on the ground. We can get leaves up to our knees in a matter of days and raking is a constant chore all season long. God forbid they get rained on because then it becomes impossible to deal with till it dries. Mowing is out of the question, the bag fills up almost instantly and it throws leaf confetti everywhere. Raking takes forever. The leaf piles become so massive so quickly that the leaf blowers are practically ineffectual especially when wet. We'll have 4 people leaf blowing, raking or mowing, tarping and hauling and it still takes forever. Also, our town was annexed recently and we can't burn leaves anymore. I'm not sure this vacuum would work any better or easier than the other methods. What do you all think? Any suggestions or alternative methods? Thanks.
