That is a good deal. I wanted it after Christmas but it sold out before I checked out of my cart and waited a month and finally just broke down and bought the last 2 separately (I owned the first) But I really wanted this cool box set

Very thorough review. I'm a marantz owner and considering purchasing the Anthem but was waiting for a comparison video. So thank you. I'm very pleased with marantz so I'll just wait for the bugs to be all worked out before purchasing the Anthem.
Thank brother, I really appreciate your comments. It's viewers like you who drop comments like this that encourage me to keep putting in the work. Thanks a million for always being so supportive man...cheers!
I have the Marantz myself, but for 1,000 more, I’m not that trigger happy to sell my new processor just to have the latest one, the video was excellent by the way, keep doing what you do!
Great review! I currently own the Marantz pre pro and I like the sound of it. It has that warm sound like you indicated here which is what I prefer. So I will definitely stick with what I have although the Anthem appears to be a great choice also but just not my choice.
Thanks for the detailed impressions. The night and day difference you're looking for will come in the form of the Anthem room correction. They even stepped up their included ARC mic, so that should help tremendously. I'm looking forward to hearing your post ARC genesis results opinions.
Marantz does have a web interface, it is available when you enter the Marantz IP address in a browser on the same network. But still I am looking forward at owning an AVM 70
Great video man! I made a similar comment to kpaceguy - I think a more apples:apples comparison would be the AV8805 as they have the same DAC’s, whereas the 7706 has a lower SNR DAC (AKM4458). The 8805 and the AVM70 are pretty much on par in terms of specs, but on paper, the AVM70 is a smokin deal for $1k less than the 8805, and with a first class room correction software (even though it doesn’t work currently). For some, the OSD of the Marantz unit alone, may just be worth it. I run the 8805 and haven’t found the “gotta have it” jump to another unit, not yet anyway. Great video as always!
I agree. A better comparison would of been the AV8805. I also own the AV8805 and so far after two and a half years still don't have an urge to replace it. I also like the Marantz look over that new Anthem.
but no HDMI2.1 is huge deal breaker. and no Roon client support still after a year. They are promisers who do not deliver on what was said to happen 'soon'.
I also had the same denon reciever and upgraded 3the 7705 and your correct huge difference but to be honest I would not be willing to spend an extra grand for a processor that's buggy like that it would drive me crazy
Tomorrow, I go from using Receivers over the last 20 years (including 4 Marantz) to the AV7706. It is an understatement to say I can't wait! Already running Emotiva BasX Amps
Late update here, but I noticed at 2:20 that the Anthem microphone is pointing backwards, toward your chair, instead of pointing forward as it is supposed to be. There is a white decal/dot on the microphone that indicates where you point it toward the front of the room. If you did do your measurements with the microphone in the wrong orientation as shown, you/we should disregard your measurements and totally disregard your overall assessment and review resulting from that setup - Or - perhaps this photo was just for reference, and you did indeed have the microphone set correctly. Nonetheless, the picture indicates incorrect positioning.
The picture was just for reference, I set it up quick just for pictures. Just so you know I have compared bass measurements with the ARC Mic facing the right way and with it facing the wrong way with very little if any difference in the response.
Nice review. From what you stated, I will stick to my Marantz AV7705’s as that $900.00 seems like a lot for the differences. I only run 7.3 and 7.2 systems. Look forward to more reviews.
the 7705 is even more of a good deal and like $1600-2000 cheaper. I wanted the 7705, cus I could give a crap less about 8k, but the vendor I went with only had the 7706, and with the discounts I got, it made the prices closer so I went for it.
Moving into separates is quite the big bite to take. Getting a quality amp seems to be the most important to spend the money on. I am considering the marantz 7706 and an emotive 11 channel amp for my next big upgrade. I am hoping to find a marantz 7705 since I don’t care for the 8k. Thanks for the review
Interesting, I’m thinking of going to the AVM 70 over the MRX 1140 and just getting a cheaper amplifier to power the Atmos in ceiling speakers (using Emotiva for the main 7 channels)
Thanks Tony. The Anthem sure does sound amazing. I think I may have to do another video once they get some of the bugs and ARC figured out. Thanks for witching brother...always appreciated.
The AV7706 has a similar DAC chipset as the Anthem MRX 540-1140 AVR's. I'm not too surprised that the AVM70 edged out on clarity and channel separation as it has a superior multi DAC implementation. A better challenge would be the Marantz AV8805, Rotel 1576MKII or NAD M17v2.
I had a Marantz pre pro and their 5 channel amp . Other than having to factory reset it several times the first couple years it worked great . I finally couldn’t take looking at it anymore as I hate those portholes and replaced it with an Anthem AVM60 pre pro . It’s worked flawlessly and I love the look of a big brick of black brushed aluminum. I was disappointed when I first seen Anthems new line up , but it’s really growing on me the more I watch these videos
As a Marantz owner, and also an Anthem owner... My 2 cents- While I love Marantz...and I’ll always own their gear, its just not in the same league as the Anthem.
Great comparison! Listening to this in my vehicle I could clearly hear the difference. When I am in the market for a new AVR/Processor I am going to have to move upmarket.
Would love to see a follow up video of arc Genesis once anthem gets the kinks worked out. Arc does some serious magic on my 1120, looking on upgrading to separates and adding some front wides in the near future and the avm70 is ion a short list. Just gotta figure out how to best add 15 channels of amplification without breaking the bank or needing to add another power circuit
I would love to see a comparison of the Marantz 8805 vs the Anthem avm70. Both have 15ch of XLR, both uses the AKM4490 chips. I’m curious but no one has done the two.
That seems to be a logical comparison, especially with the release of the Marantz AV8805A. Moreover, Anthem just raised the price of the AV70 by $300 and did not include any new features. I found an AV8805A online for a couple of hundred dollars more than the AV70 and am looking forward to having it installed next week. Thanks for your great videos.
The Marantz will only process 13 channels at any one time though, whereas the Anthem processes all 15. It’s for this reason that I’m looking to upgrade from my 8805 to an AVM 70, as I’m already at my max speaker count with the Marantz (9.2.4), and want to move to 9.2.6 - which the Anthem will allow. The only viable alternative (in the U.K.) would be the Trinnov - and I can’t justify that outlay on what is, to me, a minor hobby - besides which, I’ll have had enough of building yet more speakers! 17, including subs, is more than enough! - though can’t recommend DIYSG speakers highly enough!
I had the Marantz Av7706 it sounded very good but then I started having issues with it since I got it, mostly HDMI and then drop outs "a lot" traded it in on the Anthem. I liked the Anthem right out of the box much better so far. Usually the room correction software is much better than most on the Anthem. I have the AVM70 as well.
That on and off clicking has happened to me also with my old anthem avm 30. It may not be the anthem but it may the NVIDA shield. You have to place the NVIDA shield back to default to reset the unit and it goes away. Good review.
I have the MRX740 and came from the Marantz sr7013/15. The difference is more apparent on the recievers; in channel separation, sound effect emphasis, clarity, and dynamics, the Anthem more clearly, takes the cake.
That intro is killer. You are looking great. Very hard to compare without being able to use Anthem Room Correction since many people aren't savvy enough to use REW and a UMIK. As always thanks for the video.
I have the Marantz on pre order. I only can fit 9 speakers+subs in my room, so the extra speaker capability is not needed. I plan to use it for quite some time, so the hdmi 2.1 is a bonus. In addition, Im a fan of auro and Auromatik, which only works on the Marantz. Switching between 2 profiles is important to me. The drop down projection screen and the black out courtains change the room acoustics quite dramaticly. Sadly it ETA is mid April here in Germany...
Excellent review! I am leaning towards the anthem but the issues worry me. Iam 3 mths out still from my theater build so i really really hope the issues are ironed out by then
Don't worry about the Anthem and the bugs, they will work them out. When the last generation came out it was the same thing. With more elite equipment comes more bugs at first for some reason. Look at the Emotiva pre/pro review. It's been out for a long time and still has huge bugs.
I really appreciate the thorough review and explanation between the sound differences between the Denon 4400 vs Marantz 7706 and the Anthem 70. Thank you so much! And please continue with these comparisons when possible!
No problem my friend, I am just glad you found it helpful. I will do my best to keep videos like this coming. It gets really expensive though, I have to buy all these units myself lol. I will do my best though ;)!
Avm70 great video...with the info coming from youthman this week about the delay on the arc,and avm90.i decided to wait for the avm90....i will also put my denonx8500h on the market..i also here alot of differences and av and processor...thks my friend have a great day...
Glad I'm not the only one that tried their beta and the trims were crazy Hi (I have the MRX740.) The web UI definitely needs some polish, although to be expected. I'm with you on the customization of that display, Come on Guys that's a lot of space we could use. Agree as well on OSD, let me customize the information displayed. Watched a few of your's, now a subscriber.
Thanks brother, I appreciate the sub. I have faith that Anthem will make the changes we want. We should all email them in numbers, they will have to do it then ;P!
I know exactly what you mean. I went from a Marantz sr7012 to an Anthem MRX1120 and honestly it was a huge upgrade. And yes, I did have the slight veil over my speakers with the Marantz. When I hooked up the Anthem and ran ARC it was a huge difference. So once you get ARC running you WILL notice a difference.
Great review! I think with the Anthem coming out on top, which was to be expected, if you stick with those growing pains you are not going to be disappointed especially with the implementation of ARC. Anthem was bound to come out on top but with ARC it flattens all the competition. Can't wait until they get all that figured out! When they do make sure you put out another video! I'm super curious to hear your thoughts on it.
@@robertbreish8182 Well, technically you can get ARC working by resetting the unit and flashing the DSP, but imo that isn't a working software. You should be able to plug the mic in and run the room calibration, without worrying about flashing the DSP etc. I am going to do some reading to try and sort it out and get it working. I didn't want to tell buyers it was working considering the hoops you have to jump through to get it working, you know what I mean. They will get is sorted, but until then I don't consider ARC working just yet.
@@SpecOfTech Agreed if it’s not working through a simple update of the firmware then it’s not working. Is that the beta version I was hearing about? Or is this a legit final version for the newer models you just have to update it manually?
I’m really on the verge of trying separates. I went from a Sony AVR that was a budget champ (STR 1080) to a top of the line Denon AVR X8500H. There’s no doubt the Denon sounded better in terms of clarity and detail, but it didn’t have as much punch as I expected it to in comparison to the Sony. I need to decide on my amplifier section, but this video went a long way in helping me pick my pre/pro. Thanks!
Awesome my friend, I am glad the video helped you out, that is exactly why I do them. Good luck on the hunt for an amplifier. Check out Tonewinner amplifiers at Summit Hifi if you are looking for something more on the budget side of things.
Got a MRX 740 and had the same problems, plus, going back to do a new calibration I was told by Anthem, required a "system reset" thereby losing all my saved settings. I have one glitch I haven't been able to figure out. Occasionally when watching TV channels, the voice track disappears entirely, both on main programming and commercials. I tried different profiles, and different theater settings to no avail. I suppose this could be the Verizon STB but rebooting all equipment corrected it the last time I experienced it. Anecdotally, the manual has a few disagreements between sections (ex: sec 7.8 "DYN" selections vs. sec 5.5 Dolby Volume selections).
I am comming from Marantz, bought the JBL Synthesis SDP-55. And also calibrated (mostly manually) an Anthem 740. This is how my list goes. 1.JBL since I am used to Dirac, its more detailed and I like it, also the pre-amp is a awesome. But yes it waaay more expensive. I have never heard sourround sound like this, only on a trinnov (yes its better). 2. Anthem 740, wow here you get ALOT for the money, what a beast, what a performer! 3. The Marantz 7-series peramp is dissapointing in my opinion, its not bad. But for the money I say Anthem delivers way more then it costs! The Marantz is easy to operate, it does what its supposed to. But I cant go back to it and enjoy it. Nice video been looking forward to it :). And btw ARC is not bad for being in a beta, its does a pretty good job as it is now.
Holy smokes...we’re going down the same path. I owned almost everything in the last 20 years, but most recently Marantz, Anthem, and JBL Synthesis (Lexicon prior to that). I’ve owned two older JBL Synthesis processors, and am looking to purchase the SDP-55. It sounds like your happy with it?
@@jeremiahglass8262 yes I am really happy with it. Though it have had a bad start with alot of bugs. But firmware 1.44 is stable and from here on now, it can only improve :). Loving the unit sofar
Barrett, your reviews are the best on RUclips; clear, concise and intelligent. However, in this case, you may have your finger on the scale as Marantz has room correction (which you disabled for the comparison) whereas the Anthem ARC doesn’t work.
Thanks for the compliment my friend. Haha, "finger on the scale", I like that. But, in this case I didn't think it would be fair to compare one with room cal and one without. Now that Arc is working, I do have to say it seems to do a better job than Audyssey. Audyssey is still a fantastic room cal software though, especially with use of the app. Thanks for watching 🙂.
Just putting this out there, and you're not the only one I've heard it from, but it's not pronounced Dye rack, but Dir rack 😀. Thanks for the comparison.
Thanks for the clarification. I will try to remember that the next time I say it on camera, but no promises lol. I have said it the other way for so long it will be tough to change now.
Hello audiophiles, I own q Marantz AV7706 pre processor which I am still learning about the features it has. I wonder about if an external DAC converter is a good idea to add on to improve the sound of the AV-7706 receiver. Any suggestions or comments based in your current experience is appreciated. Love these learning videos..
And why we dont get digital out put channels for ALL surround channels yet with active loudspeakers ? i have digital loudspeakers genelec superior three way now.
Add in the future also Classic music, because it is different than electronic music and many people who goes this expensive setup are audiophiles and Classic music and how it sound is very important. Also input from lp-player would be good to include, not just digital inputs for the same reason, but otherwice… Good job!
Good comparison. Think I'd pay the extra for Anthem considering it's a long term purchase. Although I'm still not sure whether to go pre/pro or MRX 1140.
The difference in the pre/pro and the avrs with Anthem is minimal. They all use top quality parts. And running external amps from the mrx is a non issue as I do it with my 1120 and they pre-outs are dead quiet.
Well the Anthem AVM70 is a very nice unit when mine was working for a month. The auto update worked but mine "glitched" on the firmware auto update and does not turn on anymore. Anthem will warranty it but I have been (since 4-23-2021) trying to get the papers from Anthem on the RMA but emails & phone calls are becoming no response on emails or Covid 19 recordings on the phone que. Warranty maybe an issue here guys? While it worked I had all 15.2 working and it sounded amazing. Anthem told me it would be 4 to 6 weeks for this to be fixed but I have already lost another week just trying to get the paper work returned to me?
I was hoping you wouldn’t say that. I have an outlaw 7000 right now . I need another amp for the 15 channel. Another outlaw 7000 won’t even work. That’s dumb
Nope, it's a hardware issue and won't be able to fix it without changing the hdmi board. The 2.1 works with the ps5 no problem but not with the series x.
At the time I did this video, Anthem Room Correction was not operating properly on the AVM70. I couldn't really compare them at the time, since this video Anthem has got the bugs worked out in ARC, and it now works as it should...cheers.
@@D1Calderon I would say that ARC does a better job of everything except the low frequencies. It was far too aggressive for my liking and it really thinned out the bass region. It was easily fixed by applying a curtain, but you could also increase the room gain to help get the hefty bass back. Audyssey seems to allow for a heavier bass experience.
Great review, Barrett! Appreciate the meticulous effort in A/B comparisons. I am also leaning towards the AVM70 (forgiving the ARC Genesis woes for now). However, I also like the "audiophile" aspect of AVM90 but not its MSRP twice the AVM70 at $7000USD. Are you able to make any observations or comments even though AVM90 is not yet released (and that it may be delayed from March to Fall later this year)? I also heard rumors that Anthem may choose to use alternate chipsets (including the original spec'd AKM flagship DAC MK4499EQ).
Hey man, thanks for watching and commenting I honestly appreciate it. As much as I would love to comment on your question, I just don't have the proper info to do so. I can assume with a fair amount of certainty that the AVM90 will have a noticeable improvement in sound quality. The more than double price tag is a tough one to swallow. My opinion on the matter is this, if money is no object the AVM90 would be my choice, if money is an issue the AVM70 I am sure will give you 80 to 90% of what the AVM90 gives you.
Very nice comparison but to me it’s unacceptable to spend my money on a buggy product with so many shortcomings such as Anthem. The very slim difference in sound quality are well outperformed by a much more robust platform with buttoned up software and OSD found on Marantz. I bet that the sound comparison will change after calibration. I have always witnessed great differences in my system which I tested when upgrading items before and after running Audyssey with big improvement after calibration. Even my wife noticed and learned about the importance of it. Definitely not sold on Anthem and fully agree with your comment on their failure to deliver. So far I haven’t been impressed with any of what I consider second rank pre/pros such as Arcam, Anthem, Monoprice, Emotiva, etc. All of them commanding high Dollars for subpar buggy products. Ultimately we’re pursuing better sound which in my opinion is achieved through a combination of many variables where working software, polished OSD and room correction play an essential role in our user experience.
HI1 really appreciate your comparisons! I think i see SVS ultras in the background . i am currently planning a 5.1.4 HT for my new house living room approx 8000 ft2 20X 25X 10 ft. i would like to consult w/ you for this project, regards tom
Great review, lots of info. I own the AVM60 and love it. Is it a real difference between the AVM60 and the newer AVM70, strictly in SQ, that would make it worth spending more on the 70? Would really appreciate your input. Thanks!
Thanks for the kind words and for watching, much appreciated. I have never heard the AVM60 in my room, so it would be difficult for me to compare the sound quality of them. I have heard that the AVM70 does provide a noticeable improvement, this is based off some comments in the FB groups. I wish I could give your a more definitive answer, but I try not to give opinions based on assumptions with no personal experience.
I was considering these two brands to upgrade from when my new home finishes getting built in June. I was already leaning towards Anthem from the start, now this helps confirm / solidify my selection going forward as Audio Advice really loves the Anthem as well. Since I’m having a home theater room being build from scratch, I’m in no rush and ARC should be ironed out by then as well as other bugs. My only question on the HDMI 2.1 upgrade path, how will they handle that? Force you to buy a whole new unit? Or send it in for the hardware upgrade to the board? Or will it be modular in a way for self hardware upgrade? They know we all want it, and talking Full HDMI 2.1 with 48 Gb support, not the halfassed version that caused issues with Xbox on Denon and other early HDMI 2.1 units.
Does the Anthem have an analog pass-through? On my Marantz 7703, that can be accomplished by connecting LR through the 7-channel bypass LR inputs, which seems to get around the digital processing, and it thereby sounds decent, even if it bypasses the subs. On my older Onkyo this can easily be achieved via “Pure Direct” mode, which sounds better than the Marantz, subjectively. Thoughts on this? So sad about the missing tape loops on these newer units, BTW. I’m sure I’m not the only one.
Great video but I think both of these av processors are on different levels. Anthem being higher spec model. Looking at the specs I think a more fair comparison would be the avm70 vs maybe something like the x8500h in pre amp mode. Any chance of comparing that model to the avm70? Both use 4490dacs so I think it would be much closer. Nice video anyway
Great video. Why do you say the Marantz has no web UI? My AV7702mkii can be controlled with either the Andriod/IOS app or through a web browser. Assuming the AV7706 is the same. It looks to me like the AVM70 is a year or so away from being ready for prime time so I'm waiting it out.
My mistake, it does seem Marantz has a web ui. This isn't something they advertise or is well known. Unless for some weird reason it just didn't hit my radar. Good to know that they do have one though...cheers man.
I can't say anything for sure, because I have not heard the 8805. I imagine the 8805 will have a slight edge in clarity and detail with its superior DACs. With Audyssey, the bass on the 8805 will be a little less "clean" and will have more output with the stock calibration. The AVM70 will "clean" up the bass, but it will be a little more lean on the stock calibration. Of course you can alter the calibration files on both units to help suit your tastes, but overall the bass will be tighter on the Anthem IMO. I honestly think you would be happy with either unti.
I have an old Marantz 7010 from about 5 years ago, pushing my Golden Ear setup and my dual Rythmik FV18s. I have been thinking about pulling the trigger soon on an AVR 70 with a new set of amps... you’re pushing me inch by inch that direction. But its going to be expensive to make the jump from a receiver to separates, as I am also going to have to buy a new AV cabinet to house it all as well. Anyone have the experience of how big a jump it is in channel separation and clarity between the Marantz AVRs and an Anthem pre-pro? You said the difference between your Denson and Marantz Pre-pro was pretty significant.
If the Denon AVRX4400 is similar in sound to your older 7010, you would notice a very significant improvement moving to the AVM70 IMO. Cheers my friend, and happy shopping ;P.
@@SpecOfTech I like the looks of the Anthem more, and at $1000 more I would think it would perform better. Still, diehard Marantz here. I don't see my self upgrading until Marantz releases something better than the 8805. Hopefully though, Marantz is taking notes. Especially with the included mic
What is the best way sonically for 2 chann music listening as far as hardworking versus wifi streaming via Chromecast, to achieve 192Khz? I have an AVM 70, Rotel 1582 MKii w channel amp and Martin Logan 60 xtis. I also use Qobuz and Tidal hi res streamers. Is this achieved via USB from a PC, or other? Thx
Great comparison Barrett! Even though listening on headphones is no where near what you hear in your room, but I could easily hear the difference during the John Wick demo. You could more easily hear the different types of sounds which made it sound a lot bigger. The results are what I expected and once Anthem gets their ARC working smoothly, I can see the seperation getting even wider after room correction on both AVR's.
@@SpecOfTech nope. Michigan US. Huh i assumed you were on the US when you talked about challenges receiving your personal earthquake machine. I'm sure you won't have any issue selling it. Probably at retail
When you said the anthem has more clarity, did that clarity come with more top end treble? One thing I’ve always liked about Marantz is that the sound is never grating or fatiguing like a yamaha.
@@SpecOfTech like many others, I wonder what the sound difference would be after room correction is applied. Have you run ARC since the comparison? If so, did it make a noticeable improvement?
Have you considered or are planning to put the Emotiva XMC 2 in your comparisons? Spare Change said sound quality is way above Marantz, Denon and most consumer or mass market offerings.
@@SpecOfTech Pretty much everyone says Dirac Live is better than ARC. However with Anthem not having Arc Genesis working yet, you might have to do a similar comparison as you did with the Marantz. Not ideal but better than nothing. The Anthem is pretty much impossible to find here in US. Outta stock at least for 1 month or more. Emotiva XMC 2 is in stock and Dirac Live up and working.
@@canillocanillo3371 I have heard that ARC is working with a little tinkering on the BETA. I am going to try and get it sorted and then maybe I can do a comparison with room correction as well...cheers.
@@SpecOfTech That would be pretty awesome….room correction could be what separate these processors at this price point. However every detail you provided on the differences without Room Correction was really helpful and appreciated. You go deeper on many things other reviewers dont. I feel these days you have to watch too many videos of the same product to get useful information. Yours feel very informative. Please keep up the good work.!!
I don't regret it no. It does have a few little bugs, they will get those sorted out though. Sound wise this unit is fantastic. You will notice a big upgrade in sound from your Denon.
@@SpecOfTech it seems it is the new brand of nakamichi which used to be known 20 years ago ;) But it is not widely used yet also not in Europe. But might be interesting
Question. I watch TV a bunch on my system but hesitate to look at Anthem or Audio Control because of the Marantz quickly going from the different audio formats on TV. Marantz handles it flawlessly and quickly. Is that your experience as well with the Anthem unit? Very slow to change audio formats? I heard XMC-1 Emotiva is very slow as well.
Actually my Anthem operates quite smooth now, there were some bugs in the beginning. Switching between inputs happens quite quickly, and without issues. If you are looking for fluid operation, I would stay clear of the Emotivas. They do sound fantastic, but their firmware is buggy and slow.
Yeah, the unit does work better now, but there is still the odd bug. I am sure over the next 6 months to a year they will get it all sorted. I am very happy with the sound of it though.

I have the Marantz myself, but for 1,000 more, I’m not that trigger happy to sell my new processor just to have the latest one, the video was excellent by the way, keep doing what you do!
Thanks brother, I really appreciate that. The Marantz units still sound fantastic as well, there is no question.
Great review! I currently own the Marantz pre pro and I like the sound of it. It has that warm sound like you indicated here which is what I prefer. So I will definitely stick with what I have although the Anthem appears to be a great choice also but just not my choice.
Good review - very thorough and edited well. Please keep posting updated reviews on the anthem as they update the firmware and arc software
Thanks brother, and I will do my best, cheers!
Thanks Barrett for another excellent comparison video. Appreciate that you qualify your opinions based on your personal preferences.
The difference between those dacs is minimal. The Anthem would still best the Marantz.
but no HDMI2.1 is huge deal breaker. and no Roon client support still after a year. They are promisers who do not deliver on what was said to happen 'soon'.
I have the 8805 and its spectacular!
love all your videos ive learnt alot thank you.
I am glad my videos helped you out, cheers!
It is an incredible unit, you will notice better sound for sure. Great choice Jerry, let me know what you think!
Jerry my 7706 should arrive Friday. What is the most difference you have noticed going from an AVR to separates?
I changed my mind!! I am thinking of going with the anthem mrx1140. Still haven’t bought one. But I will soon
Interesting, I’m thinking of going to the AVM 70 over the MRX 1140 and just getting a cheaper amplifier to power the Atmos in ceiling speakers (using Emotiva for the main 7 channels)
Great video Barrett.. I think Anthem for me if I had to pick between the two even with the bugs. Good luck with the video !!
Thanks Tony. The Anthem sure does sound amazing. I think I may have to do another video once they get some of the bugs and ARC figured out. Thanks for witching brother...always appreciated.
Nice review!
Glad you enjoyed it
The AV7706 has a similar DAC chipset as the Anthem MRX 540-1140 AVR's. I'm not too surprised that the AVM70 edged out on clarity and channel separation as it has a superior multi DAC implementation. A better challenge would be the Marantz AV8805, Rotel 1576MKII or NAD M17v2.
Anthem AVM90 though.
Great comparison video! On point review!
Thanks for actually playing the difference this is huge to me
No problem brother, I am glad it helped.
Great video my dude! I'M patiently waiting for the Anthem AVM 90....keep doing what you doing!
Thanks brother, much appreciated!
I'M patiently waiting for the Anthem AVM 70 From Crutchfield . early april. FYI they did have a Open box yesterday AVM 70 for 175.00 of off retail
Great review 😎😎
Awesome review!!! I do wish I can see Exactly which speakers are playing on Avm70 like Marantz does when you hit Info button.
Yeah, that info button on the Marantz is a real winner, I wish Anthem did it exactly the same as well.
Truly excellent channel. Subbed.
Welcome aboard!
7:05 youtube discontinued 'notification' emails a year ago....
But they will still send a RUclips notification to your RUclips account if you tick the bell, but you don't have to 😉.
How these companies think they can get away with those cheap remotes at those price points is beyond me...
I was thinking the same thing. My Yamaha 2080 remote blows those away lol. And that's only a 1500 dollar reciever.
because most people who actually buy these ... do not use the standard remotes ... $1500 receiver 😂 pfft.
@@ericshutter5305I agree. It goes with the rest of rarely used remotes after set up.
I have the MRX740 and came from the Marantz sr7013/15. The difference is more apparent on the recievers; in channel separation, sound effect emphasis, clarity, and dynamics, the Anthem more clearly, takes the cake.
Ya for sure man. I had a sr7012 and have an 1120 Anthem and it was like I had all new speakers and they sounded amazing.
Have you measured the Anthem vs any AVR with Dirac?
I love the screen on the Anthem :D, also team Canada.
Earned a sub. +like! Love it!
That intro is killer. You are looking great. Very hard to compare without being able to use Anthem Room Correction since many people aren't savvy enough to use REW and a UMIK. As always thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching brother, hope you enjoy!
Does this unit comes out of the box ready to pllay
20:03
I have the sr-6014 do you have a video on setting it up I keep tweeting it now I can’t get it back to original sound HELP. !!!
Excellent review! I am leaning towards the anthem but the issues worry me. Iam 3 mths out still from my theater build so i really really hope the issues are ironed out by then
Awesome man, I hope the theater build is going well. I am sure Anthem will get the bugs sorted out.
I will purchase the Anthem once they fix the bugs... Awesome review.
Thanks for watching...cheers!
Don't worry, it's hard to buy one even if you have cash in hand. You'll have time for them to debug in the mean time.
Avm70 great video...with the info coming from youthman this week about the delay on the arc,and avm90.i decided to wait for the avm90....i will also put my denonx8500h on the market..i also here alot of differences and av and processor...thks my friend have a great day...
I appreciate you watching and the comment brother...cheers!
Great review thanks for this video and all your effort to make it! I’m now a sub....
Thanks for subscribing man, I really appreciate it...and welcome!
Great Video
Thank you!
What is this 2 channel setting I keep hearing ??
Excellent review! Thank you.
does the anthem shows the volumen on the tv?
I know exactly what you mean. I went from a Marantz sr7012 to an Anthem MRX1120 and honestly it was a huge upgrade. And yes, I did have the slight veil over my speakers with the Marantz. When I hooked up the Anthem and ran ARC it was a huge difference. So once you get ARC running you WILL notice a difference.
Did you notice the difference in the subs performance?
@@deesr.6641 yes, after I adjusted the room gain and added some mid bass boost the subs are incredible sounding.
Thanks man. I can't wait to hear it when ARC is working 100%.
@@SpecOfTech Have they given any indication of when it’s going to be up and running?
@@robertbreish8182 It is currently the beta version. That is all there will be for a while though, so they just need to tweak the beta.
Hi, thanks for sharing did they sort out the bugs in the Anthem?
I’m looking at the outlaw audio 7000 as well
Got a MRX 740 and had the same problems, plus, going back to do a new calibration I was told by Anthem, required a "system reset" thereby losing all my saved settings.
I found the pre-outs on my sr7012 to be pretty noisy. Almost like a slight buzz. The Anthem 1120 I have is dead silent.
Yes Marantz pre-outs are noisey, I have noticed that as well.
What were your settings on the MARANTZ AV7706 exactly, other than you say you drive without a measuring microphone
Yes.
Love those Demos try some demo on readyplayer movie bro..
It’s nice to see Anthem step it up with design. Why do AV receivers look the same as they did 20 years ago.
And why we dont get digital out put channels for ALL surround channels yet with active loudspeakers ? i have digital loudspeakers genelec superior three way now.
I would choose the AVM 70 ... now checking reviews of AVM 90 😊
The auto
update worked but mine "glitched" on the firmware auto update and does
not turn on anymore. Anthem will warranty it but I have been (since
4-23-2021) trying to get the papers from Anthem on the RMA but emails
& phone calls are becoming no response on emails or Covid 19 recordings on the phone que.
Warranty maybe an issue here guys? While it worked I had all 15.2
working and it sounded amazing. Anthem told me it would be 4 to 6 weeks
for this to be fixed but I have already lost another week just trying to
get the paper work returned to me?
Sorry to hear it 😔, I hope they get you sorted out soon. Keep us all posted!
Love to see your LCR is towers. I always wanted to do that but don't like my picture that high
So you said you had to denon first. Did you have your amps and setup for pre amp ?
Yes, I sure did.
That’s what I have. Well an x4700h. Will it sound better if I have two amp to put it into preamp mode or will the anthem sound that much better?
@@Coffeedad IMO the Anthem does sound noticeably better. It was worth the upgrade for me personally.
I was hoping you wouldn’t say that. I have an outlaw 7000 right now . I need another amp for the 15 channel. Another outlaw 7000 won’t even work. That’s dumb
Hi John. Do you know if there is an update for the Marantz HDMI 2.1 issue ? Any thing new ?
Nope, it's a hardware issue and won't be able to fix it without changing the hdmi board. The 2.1 works with the ps5 no problem but not with the series x.
That is reason why Anthem waits until it declare 2.1 upgrade, because the hardware issue is not easy to fix without new hardware…
Wonder how the Anthem would compare to the Marantz 8805? Just a 1k fifference.
So no Room Correction?
At the time I did this video, Anthem Room Correction was not operating properly on the AVM70. I couldn't really compare them at the time, since this video Anthem has got the bugs worked out in ARC, and it now works as it should...cheers.
@@SpecOfTech awesome. How does it compare with ARC? Same or a lot better?
@@D1Calderon I would say that ARC does a better job of everything except the low frequencies. It was far too aggressive for my liking and it really thinned out the bass region. It was easily fixed by applying a curtain, but you could also increase the room gain to help get the hefty bass back. Audyssey seems to allow for a heavier bass experience.
This is also for those of you that have this issue as well! But if it doesn't work, well at least I tried to help you all with this issue!
Any feedback from Anthem on then the ARC software will be fully functional?
HI1 really appreciate your comparisons! I think i see SVS ultras in the background . i am currently planning a 5.1.4 HT for my new house living room approx 8000 ft2 20X 25X 10 ft. i would like to consult w/ you for this project, regards tom
thanks for watching, feel free to contact me any time.
What Exactly are those subs , especially the tall one. I did not find it via your link.
The tall one is the Funk Audio LFE24 Ultra, and the smaller one is the Harbottle Audio C24 L2.
@@SpecOfTech Thank you very much for your answer!
Awesome man, it is a really great choice. For HDMI 2.1, I was told you will have to take the unit in to your local dealer to get the hardware upgrade.
What's your idea of anthem avm 70 compared to marantz av 8805 or 8896?
I can't say anything for sure, because I have not heard the 8805. I imagine the 8805 will have a slight edge in clarity and detail with its superior DACs. With Audyssey, the bass on the 8805 will be a little less "clean" and will have more output with the stock calibration. The AVM70 will "clean" up the bass, but it will be a little more lean on the stock calibration. Of course you can alter the calibration files on both units to help suit your tastes, but overall the bass will be tighter on the Anthem IMO. I honestly think you would be happy with either unti.
I just wish the anthem had a hidden hdmi on the front panel, it would make it a lot easier to use REW.
I agree, it really is handy for using REW.
I find I'm on the treble button quite a bit, up for music down for tv viewing. And I bumped the bass to plus 6.
Nice review and very informative. Just curious, did you turn off Dynamic Volunm and Dynamic EQ on the Maranzt for this test.
Yes that was all turned off along with audyssey
Marantz 8805, no complaints here!
I had no complaints about the AV7706 either, still a great unit. Anthem does improve on sound quality imo though...cheers my friend.
Yeah some of the differences actually seemed to be magnified over the recording, they were very pronounced. Thanks for watching man.
Hi did you try the Denon 4400 with an external amp.
I did use the 4400 with an external amp. I used the Marantz 5 channel amp and a Tonewinner amp with it.
I ordered the 7706. still waiting for it to arrive., hopefully mid march...but it's on heavy backorder, so who kows.
Are you by any chance in the Alberta Canada area? I will be selling mine, it is mint and still under warranty.
@@SpecOfTech nope. Michigan US. Huh i assumed you were on the US when you talked about challenges receiving your personal earthquake machine. I'm sure you won't have any issue selling it. Probably at retail
@@Antimonkat That's too bad, yeah it will sell no problem.
When you said the anthem has more clarity, did that clarity come with more top end treble? One thing I’ve always liked about Marantz is that the sound is never grating or fatiguing like a yamaha.
I would say the Anthem is a little brighter, but it's not bad IMO.
I want to try and get the XMC 2 in my home to test it out. I have a friend getting one, so I want to try and borrow it from him for a day.
Just ordered my anthem!! Any regrets??? Is a new update out? I'm coming from an denon avrx3600h
I don't regret it no. It does have a few little bugs, they will get those sorted out though. Sound wise this unit is fantastic. You will notice a big upgrade in sound from your Denon.
Have you ever tried the processors of IOTAVX?
Curious what the best affordable processor would be.
I haven't no...to be honest, I don't really hear anyone talking about those. I guess they don't have much of a preference in North America?
@@SpecOfTech it seems it is the new brand of nakamichi which used to be known 20 years ago ;)
But it is not widely used yet also not in Europe.
Since you posted this, has anthem fixed any issues?
Yeah, the unit does work better now, but there is still the odd bug. I am sure over the next 6 months to a year they will get it all sorted. I am very happy with the sound of it though.
