Glad you like it and that the issue was resolved!! My MRX740 8k developed an issue with not receiving audio on boot up. I called Anthem yesterday and they advised it sounded like the unit definitely had an issue. They referred me to my dealer “Crutchfield”. I was authorized to get a brand new unit, and it’s sitting at my house now ready to be installed. Anthem really stands behind their products and I really appreciate that.

Welcome to the Anthem Famm. I also left Marantz a couple of years ago. I have the Anthem MRX 740, 8k Receiver, with this same issue. I’ve been though almost every HDMI cable on the market it seems. I am actually up to a hdmi extender over cat 6, same issue. I’ve actually only had this issue with ROKU. I cannot find these updates in any of Anthems manuals. It would appear this is an issue in Anthem processors & receivers. Thank you for addressing this issue. Happy listening. 😎 9:13
I upgraded to the anthem MRX 1140 three weeks ago. I have a cinema 50 in the living room. Cinema 50 is brilliant with sound. The MRX forward presentation of audio is what I love but they’re both stellar.
Congratulations on the upgrade and the Anthem AVM 70 will definitely be great for your system. I have also been bitten by the upgrade bug, I have been saving up for a new Marantz processor and I have decided to upgrade to the Marantz 8015 because it has the same specs as the processor and I have all external amplifier’s that will drive all 13 channels. I have 6 amplifier units for the bed layer and a 8 channel amp for my wides and Atmos. I watched your review on the 8015 and others and it will work for me as a processor and I got it for a good price. Thanks for your videos I really appreciate them.
Bob Parisseau (sic) will be proud! Bob’s support with OPPO back in the day and his love of Anthem influenced me to grab the MRX-1120 which I am still using. At some point I figure to upgrade to an Anthem processor.
@@Youthman my first ever Marantz and the first time I switched it on the difference in sound quality was like night and day coming from the Yamaha, I’m also using Monitor audio gold 5G speakers for example the gold 300 towers for my atmos I’ve got two pairs off Kef R8 meta’s
I moved from a 8805 to Anthem av90, told my dealer who sold me the 8805 said give the AV 10 a run he is a mcintosh dealer who said that AV10 is better then any Mcintosh processor, gave a run and compared to the anthem. The Marantz was a bit better totally solid piece
I did the same back in 2018. Had the Yamaha CX-A5100 after coming from the Anthem AVM60, which i had issues with and disliked it. I went with the Marantz AV8805 and its been great. Never any issues. I definitely would of went Marantz AV10 over Anthem anything.
@@chriswyatt9868 yeah I definitely made the right choice, I had four options I was looking at Anthem JBL Arcam and of course Marantz all four had processor and amplifier setups at almost the same price point but if I’d gone with any of the other three I would have needed more than one power amp and space was an issue for me
I did not know that about the 2-part process for updating the firmware. I have the AVM70 and I’ve noticed the exact same audio drops when I switch from my blu-ray player over to my AppleTV. I have to reboot the processor if I’m watching a disc and decided to switch over to the AppleTV. Thanks for the heads up!
Welcome to the Anthem family. I have had the 60 and now have the 90. I was looking at the trinov in Australia the price is crazy and looking at the diminishing return for my money ( plus the wife was giving me THAT look ) went for the avm 90. Love this brand. Have fun youthman
Heck, I'd recommend doing the same thing for other manufacturers too. I literally just did this with my x4700h, the web UI wasn't giving me any updates, but the unit itself did. Finally my spotfiy podcasts won't randomly change, a problem I'd been dealing with for months.
It's those subtle features which require a deep dive into the software that makes all the difference in the world. I know audiophiles are always comparing Marantz to Denon but in all cases I like the Marantz sound and features better. If you like that Anthem over the Marantz that speaks volumes. I also like that Anthem, Inc went above and beyond the call of duty to help you resolve a problem. Having to update a bios/software problemon two separate devices is something 95% of us would never have figured out, certainly not me. I used 95% instead of 99% because some of you guys are really smart. 😎
You are a more patient person than most. I would have boxed that Anthem up and returned it. That’s like a product company calling us up and say “hey….a few of your dollars we got from you isn’t working right? Can you send us a updated version of the dollar bills??”. Every bit of our money is good….so should what we buy.
It’s not really a two step process. Your downloading arc on your pc or laptop and your updating the unit. It’s the first thing anthem asks you to do when you plug it in
Whatever it is, it’s not normal. What’s the point of clicking update on your computer and then having to manually install it on the device? They have a fix for this for future models.
@@Youthman if that’s what they say who am I to argue. Glad to see you got it figured out. But you did make a video suggesting it might be the anthem port . When it was just user error. And if I was gonna be critical of Anthem I’d comment on their str pre amp not offering Bluetooth to stream music. I get why they don’t, but I don’t care they outa give me the option.
Hi Michael! Make sure you set the input jumper for your miniDSP 2x4 HD from 2 V to 4 V, as the Anthem output voltage is higher than the Denon / Marantz products, so you want to prevent clipping the input of the miniDSP. Hopefully this helps and is not duplicate advice if someone mentioned it in the 99 comments at the time I posted this, lol. Mark
Yikes. The anthem lines have had some bugs but… the first thing anthem asks you to do is download the latest software of the unit? Congrats on the upgrade. I upgraded 6 months ago from the marantz sr7012 to the anthem mrx1140. I couldn’t be happier. Night and day difference specifically in dialogue. I think I’ll go downstairs and watch Book of Eli 👍
Are you keeping your miniDSP or switching to AVM70 for your subs? I have the miniDSP. Still debating if I should remove that and use my AVM70 for the dual subs.
Glad for having stayed with D/M family, no bugs with the 4800, while having a noticeable improvement on Audyssey, mainly in the base management that now truly tunes the subs individually, among other fine adjustments and option to decouple the amp when using external amplification. Even my wife noticed a further level of refinement, detail, and spaciousness. Having Dirac Live as a further option if desired. It would be interesting to know more about the sonic differences, which you mentioned when upgrading to the Marantz processor. How does it sound?
What’s so crazy about this is how we pay way more money for a product. You would think the ease of use would be better, not worse. I’ve upgraded my home theatre three times over the past eight years. Added speakers, changed AVR equipment and other stuff. My advice is to really research a product - reviews and determine the cost/ease of use//difference in equipment. Obviously money matters, but more than that, it’s also the overall experience. What I’ve found is that I hate spending time fixing little quirks that take time away from enjoying the space.
I totally can appreciate that. I’m OK with dealing with a few quirks as long as they’re fixable. I don’t wanna deal with them all the time every since I figured out the solution after reaching out to Anthem, I haven’t had any issues since.
I am suprised you did not jump on the Audio Advice super sale of both the AVM70 8K and AVM90. A lot of people swear by the AVM90 as the best sounding processor. The other half swear by the Marantz Cinema AV10. Either way Audio Advice is the best place to get this equipment.
@Youthman totally agreed a AVM70 8K at that sale price is a no-brainer from Audio Advice. Audio Advice is a major retail home design organization that sells the best processor for the best price on the internet. Best of both worlds. I hope you bring your film crew to Audio Advice Live as I know how meticulous your production value is at these events. Interesting that you found the disappearing sound on the Anthem. I have it with my AV7706 despite having the latest firmware. I found that a device driver update on the HDMI on my media server plus using other player software in addition Kodi. The result is that I haven't sent the processor back.
Only issue I have had with the avm90 is a hdmi drop out on Apple TV! Doesn’t happen all the time but it’s there. I need to check this as well! Anthem is a fantastic processor!!
Both reasons. I have only two subwoofers so the features of the AVM90 would not be worth it for my setup. The AVM90 is almost twice the cost of the AVM70. That’s a massive jump.
Updating firmware of the Anthem seems to be a pain point. At one point in the past, firmware update via wired Ethernet wasn’t working, but worked okay via WI-Fi. Latest Marantz has a per input setting for audio delay settings.
It probably won’t be anytime soon. I had a friend help me calibrate it and we shared some of the process. This video may help help. ruclips.net/video/KvPGFU4Dv5A/видео.htmlsi=U6kTT8qrDzYKp2gP
For the most part, yes. Part of it I had to increase the base boost. And I also increase the levels for my subs. I do want to take some measurements and see where I’m at. Tweak it some more and if it doesn’t get it where I need it, I can always add my mini DSP 2 x 4 HD back into the mix.
@@Youthman curious to hear how you get on. I have an odd experience of Arc stating the base is flat but REW shows a significant drop, which i was able to fix once i knew what i was targeting.
While reviewing the AVM70, I didn’t have the miniDSP connected. When I get time, I am curious how my subs measure just with ARC and then with the miniDSP.
@@Youthman Would enjoy hearing your opinion of those results. Am waiting for my JTR's (full system 7.2.4) and will be upgrading from the AV 7706 next. The drop outs were only issue for Kaleidoscape devices. AVR like MRax540/740/1140 are same with needing to do front panel if you are picking and choosing when to do the update if you don’t leave the auto to on (which I don’t) I have what works I leave automate to off,
Both websites are selling it for $3,199. If you do decide to pull the trigger and use the Audio Advice affiliate link, I'll receive a small commission for the referral.
@ thanks I’ll def use the affiliate link if I go this route. You have a emotiva affiliate link as well? Would Their BasX series pair well with AV7706 and Avm70?
Was struggling hard with this for a month, but ended up going with the cinema 30 and a starkrimson, actually saving a little money than getting multiple ext amps. I do wish the prerpo options were more varied amidst the rise of class d.
I would of went with Marantz AV10 myself. I don't care for Anthem ARC setup, had the AVM60 years ago and never again, ended up with Marantz AV8805 and it was so much easier and glitch free. I see Anthem for people that like to have headaches and high stress levels 😂. The AVM60 was a nightmare with issues.
No one will argue that Marantz tend to be extremely stable and bug free. But they also are among the most limited in their calibration. So there is a trade off. The AV10 is almost twice the cost as the AVM70.
@@YouthmanI'm not into all that calibration stuff and the simple setup of Marantz was one of the key reasons i stay with them. ARC is a nightmare, i like simple. And I'm sure with Marantz having Dirac available theres plenty of calibration for those that like to tweek the sound. I find Audyssey and the app on the AV8805 does a great job, at least in my room. I absolutely hated Anthem ARC along with other malfunctions i had. DTS PlayFi was glitchy to say the least. Hopefully these new Anthems are better but i know I won't be giving them another look. If the AV8805 fails or i feel the upgrade bug bite I'll be getting the AV10. Keep up the great videos.
I just saw a review from Kpace guy. He has the same Anthem. I guess I am going to Best Buy today to check it out. I saw one there 2 weeks ago. About time I replace my Yamaha A3070
I’m confused what your question is? I do not have an AVR in my setup. I use separates which is a dedicated processor paired with an 11 channel Monolith amplifier.
The bass was initially lacking as Anthem is going for more of a flat response. I had to increase the bass boost and that helped significantly. I still have some tweaking to do but I’m excited to learn how to better dial in ARC. If needed, I can always re-introduce my miniDSP 2x4HD.
Hey Youthman, I’m thinking about going separate i have 2 processors in mind marantz av7706 and Avm-70 since you experience both in your home theater witch one would you recommend me? I need your honest opinion please!
Marantz is rock solid, zero bugs or hiccups. Trade off is its limited in calibration. Thats not a bad thing. Anthem AVM70 offers MUCH more flexibility with calibration, allows you to create virtual inputs etc but I’ve had some HDMI hiccups with it and Kaleidescape and the Anthem App crashes a lot. Other than those two issues, I’ve been very pleased with the AVM70. Both units sound fantastic.
In term of sounds quality which one sounds better? By the way i just subscribe to your channel you are the only RUclipsr that i message who message me back. I do appreciate that.
Thanx for the video.great as always.👍 In 2026 we go to Florida again and i really like to meet you in person and get a look into your home theater if its possible
@@Youthman I'm a bit confused by this from ARC AVM Processors can now manage configurations up to 15.4 channels (up from 11.2) with ARC Genesis Room Correction. Makes me think the AVM70 is capable?
Civil War when the jets go over I thought they sounded real that Atmos audio was done right and I have an Anthem MRX 740 7.2.4 their amps are built for audio in mine.
Youthman! You went from Marantz to Anthem?? Thats sacrilege!! Lol jkn. Ive read the comments and a few asked the same thing I was going to ask, why not AV10? Cost is definitely #1. I just recently upgraded from the 8805A to the AV10 even tho I only have 2 SW. Loving the AV10 so far but I wish Marantz would do something like they did with the Cinena series. Maybe have an AV20 with same features but 2SW outputs instead of 4 and maybe 11.2ch instead of 15.4 for less money. AV30, AV40, on so on just like the Cinema series. I def would of gone with a AV20 if it was 11.2 vs the AV10. I think Marantz should def do something like that. Not everyone needs or has a 15.4 setup. Ive owned the 6012, 7012, 8012, 8805, 8805A and now the AV10. Just love how flawless Marantz products are vs how I hear other products having bugs. The AV10 is twice the cost and I don’t need 4 sub outs. No reason to pay for things you don’t need. I still love Marantz products. As you have stated, they just work flawlessly. Zero hiccups, zero bugs, zero issues. I want to dive more into Anthem and ARC (at least for awhile).
4K for a receiver and the customer has deal with big time aggravation trying to get it to work the way it's supposed to? Hmm. Not sure I'm an Anthem fan. Sounds like someone dropped the ball.
This issue was fixed a year ago. If auto updates would have been on, it would have resolved itself. Not ideal method of updating, but at least they had a solution. I know of more expensive processors that are riddled with bugs.

Mike I'm glad you sorted it ! I'm guessing your using XLR cabling from your 7706...what amp you using woth your anthem.
Yes, XLR to my Monolith 11X amp.
The drop outs were only issue for Kaleidoscape devices. AVR like MRax540/740/1140 are same with needing to do front panel if you are picking and choosing when to do the update if you don’t leave the auto to on (which I don’t) I have what works I leave automate to off,
I’m here because Crutchfield has this on sale $800 off. Is $3,100 a good price? Do you ever see it lower? Thinking I should just pull trigger on this.
Anthem is going to be similarly priced no matter where you go. Audio Advice has it on sale for $800 off - audioadvice.io/3Am1OP3
I appreciate the support. Yes, I'm an affiliate for Emotiva as well. I was their 4th affiliate to sign on. - emotiva.com?aff=4
Was struggling hard with this for a month, but ended up going with the cinema 30 and a starkrimson, actually saving a little money than getting multiple ext amps. I do wish the prerpo options were more varied amidst the rise of class d.
I thought this or AVM 90 was going to be my next processor but after going to mwave I am now tempted to try and save for a storm.
Storm will provide you with even more flexibility and calibration options. Thats way behind what I need for my 7.2.4 setup.
What's kinda silly is you can get a McIntosh prerpro for 9k. McIntosh. We are in crazy times.
Thank's for the great review. I wish emotiva could hire anthems engineer's to fix their buggy processors Lol.
Right?
Any reason you didn’t go with the 90?
Check previous comments. It’s twice as much and I don’t need 4 sub outs. No real benefit for me to go to the AVM90.
@@Youthman didn’t realize the price difference, makes sense
I just saw a review from Kpace guy. He has the same Anthem. I guess I am going to Best Buy today to check it out. I saw one there 2 weeks ago. About time I replace my Yamaha A3070
Do you have a AVR Receiver ?
I’m confused what your question is? I do not have an AVR in my setup. I use separates which is a dedicated processor paired with an 11 channel Monolith amplifier.
I’m glad you did and I was being good about not adding my flavor what to hear comparing my own similar experience.
Okay that’s interesting because I know you really like DEQ. Does Anthem have something similar?
Thanx for the video.great as always.👍
In 2026 we go to Florida again and i really like to meet you in person and get a look into your home theater if its possible
I bought avm 70 8k.
Till now hv problem. I could not get video signal.
I just send for service. Hopefully it will resolve.
Do you have your setup with 2 or 4 subs on the AVM70? I'm still debating if the jump to AVM90 is worth the money (given a 4 subs setup).
I only have two subwoofer. You could get the AVM70 with a miniDSP 2x4HD and have 4 independent outputs for a lot less money.
@@Youthman Agree - that's how I am thinking... thank you.
All of the processors from smaller companies seem to have little bugs. As long as they are fixable its ok with me.
How come you didnt go with the AVM90? Its double the cost and I'm sure it's not double the features that's for sure.
You answer the question for me lol
Plus, I only have two subwoofers so I don’t need 4 independent sub outs.
@@Youthman do you still use REW or are you letting the AVM70 handle it?
Currently just Anthem but I want to use REW to see how it did. I can always put my miniDSP 2x4HD back into the mix if I need to.
@@Youthman
I'm a bit confused by this from ARC
AVM Processors can now manage configurations up to 15.4 channels (up from 11.2) with ARC Genesis Room Correction.
You've influenced alot of my purchasing over the years, especially on the Klipsch side
@@Youthman nothing wrong with that
Anything gained sound quality wise? Don't think so, I think it's more a feature set that you upgrade when changing brands.
Definitely much more flexibility to taylor the sound and calibration. I enjoy the sound of both the AV7706 and the AVM70.
I always use remote and update from AVR only.
Yes, Anthems have 2 different update mechanisms that needs to be done. Eventually every owner finds out about this 😆
I’m slow lol
@@Youthman Took me at least 1 month to discover this LOL
I own marants cinema 70s for my bedroom home theater
Watch the new Marantz AV20 processor come out in a few weeks. 😂
And I would be more than happy to review it.
@@Youthman lol. I bet. They just work.
I’ve owned Marantz SR8012, SR8015, AvAV7705 and AV7706. All have worked flawlessly.
@@Youthman Fair enough. But, when you checked manually to see if you were up to date with updates and it said you were, that's what I meant by dropped the ball. You had to call to figure it out. Not ideal.
Yeah, it’s definitely not the best consumer experience, but I’m just glad that they have fixed it for future models
Booooooooo ..... hahaha.. Im jk. I know the tech is a solid product. Congrats on something that will serve you better in your system.
Till 11 minutes its just firmware update .
Come on , we know your really upgrading to the AVM 90
Nope. I don’t need 4 sub outs plus it’s twice the cost. The AVM70 has all the features I need and it sounds great. There will always be something bigger/better that you can upgrade to. But you have to find out what meets your needs.
I must be really behind, I though you upgraded from Marantz to the Monoprice
Nope. Monolith HTP-1 was just in for review.
All of the processors from smaller companies seem to have little bugs. As long as they are fixable its ok with me.
