Great video. Thank you. Recently installed a Marantz AV 7706 - absolutely love it! Easy to set up... does literally everything... and sounds great for both music and theatre.
Man U r singing my song. I had a Yamaha mid fi receiver wanted to go big for the next one. Bought a mrx500. Had to buy a windows laptop to run arc and source a special dongle that would run with the rs232 port to do the set up. Got so pissed that put the anthem away 10 years ago and never touched it again. Crazy hoops to jump through and not worth it!!! Never again.
I have the Marantz 7705 and i love the ease of use. I do agree with you it just works and the menus are easy to navigate. I love the app and I have found it so useful ( it has really helped me get the sound tweaked to the point of satisfaction ) I am surprised at the price point of the Anthem that the wi-if is not buttoned up and for consumers like me a product can become overly complicated and take away from the joy of ownership. K-pace great video and I am looking forward to your take on this products redeeming qualities, stay safe and awesome!!
not automatically measuring distances is unforgivable, setting proper distances is crucial especially for Dolby Atmos every system has electronic latency which makes using physical measured distances inaccurate until Anthem implement measuring distance, I use REW with acoustic reference timing to set my distances
100% correct, it's one of the biggest secrets no one talks about in calibration, remember at the end of the day these are mathematical equations and algorithms. My speakers are physically placed equal distance from the opposing speaker in real life, it wasn't until I found that magical spot where I placed the mic for calibration that the AVR registered all speakers (besides the center channel) equal distance apart, truly centered, magic happened. What really made all the difference is when both subs distance and level matched, subs drive so much sound because of the wattage people don't realize how critical it is to get them right! p.s. it's ok to reduce the LFE a little to blend in with the front stage.
Regarding the app not connecting- you may find that the WiFi chip on the Anthem only supports 2.4 GHz, but your router is 5 GHz. I’m no networking expert, but I had a similar issue with my Onkyo, and adjusting my WiFi router settings turned out to be the solution.
I just received my AVM70 Wednesday. My router is with my system already, so I’m glad I just automatically connected the cord. I was able to get sound out of it immediately BUT I can’t get the Anthem app to appear on my tablet so that I can go through the set up. I’ve only used it for about 45 minutes. Haven’t had a chance to really get busy with it. That will be tomorrow, hopefully.
I Can’t get online to use arc room correction followed your steps but google home can’t find my network connection and I don’t have a big enough lan cable to plug into the avr 😢
@@Kpaceguy I actually got it working by moving the avr to my kitchen where my router is and now it’s working all good sounds awesome for movies and music now I’m thinking maybe I should return it and get the avm90 honestly don’t know how much better sound quality it is compared to the avm70 btw I have an iPhone and I can’t get the app to find my receiver so it doesn’t work on iPhone either as far as I know
Denon and Msrantz AVRs or Pre/Pros have great phone aps and they recognize DLNA servers so you can play directly any audio file from your PC! I would love to have a Msrantz pre/pro cause im used to the features and user interface, i own a Denon receiver now, no money for high end stuff unfortunately!
I came from a denon x4200w and I miss the auto distances and sub phase alignment(anthem is working on it) but despite this there was a very noticeable upgrade in the sound quality with the anthem - never had a Marantz unit and this is my first processor but despite any shortcomings I have no regrets picking the anthem and I trust that it will continue to improve with future updates
Subwoofers also cause a lot of delay. That's why Audyssey always reports them further away than they actually are due to the time delay of the subwoofer's internal amps and the AVR processing time... Never measure subwoofer distance. It will always be wrong. (Usually too short) by several feet.
It seems that the real problem with both units is music and it is really because digital music is so compressed that you only have very little of the original sound and the rest is lost in the digital spectrum of things. To get the best of both worlds it will require some work in the field of analog which is why I use very little digital music as in mp3 and other like music playbacks. All technology is not good for all areas. I am a electronic technician that graduated in 78 and as I was exiting the school we where told that the 80s will be the years of perfection and it can never replace the sound of analog music because it will remove most of the music in the digital stage. I am old school and I am a lover of digital age but not for my music which is why I still have my 1500 vinyl record that I purchased back in the day.
So, the bottom line is this Anthem model will sound better than this Marantz model but there is quite a price gap between them. Now, I wonder for the price difference and level, what would be the ratio in terms of sound qualify in compare to the top Marantz AV8805? Anyone might has auditioned that?
Looking forward to the Anthem video. Although I’m sure in time Anthem will iron out everything, it just takes time. Write your suggestions to Anthem and tell them what’s on your mind, don’t forget you have power, you are a reviewer that can influence ppl. Remember if you don’t tell them, then how they suppose to know? Great video.
@Marlon Houston... For a reputable brand like Anthem, they should know what works and what doesn’t by now. I doubt they’ll add a Pure Direct button because a customer/reviewer sent them an email request. Senior Engineers decide which button stays and which one goes... for whatever reason. Sounds like the AVM70 rolled out of the oven prematurely. No longer ordering.😥
@@Turtleback8024 its not just the button but a firmware update to upgrade the video interface, maybe an software update to fix the a app for mobile phones, etc... Like the old saying goes, if you don’t ask then how do u know if they would have said yes, but when u AssUMe, it makes an “Ass /out of /U /and /Me” Ass-U-Me. Just a little humor. I learned that from Benny Hill. 😁
Pure Direct/Direct is hype. Going through a home theater processor or receiver really degrades the audio quality of two channel music. There is always some type of Dolby Digital processing mucking up the sound quality. Anyone serious about good two channel audio should connect directly to the DAC and use a passive XLR switch/switches to go from music to video. The best (and most expensive) option is to use a very high end two channel preamplifier (PS Audio BHK Signature Preamp for example) with Home Theater Bypass. The home theater processor or receiver should be removed from the chain for critical HiFi two channel listening. For background MP3/Spotify lossy non-critical listening, Direct is fine.
I agree, I went back and forth with two setups, one for HT and one for 2-Channel audio. In the end after so many years of comparing and evaluating/testing I decided I needed my living room back, so I went full 2-Channel audio and just added a new big flat panel screen to my audio system with two speakers, NO subs, pre/pro, no multi channel amps, nothing like that. I'm extremely happy with my audio rig now, because I love my music first and movie watching second! Now I have MacBook Pro running Tidal, Oppo digital into PS Audio dac, Benchmark Dac 3, Benchmark HPA4 Line Amplifer, Benchmark AHB2 X2 in Mono mode, Equi-Tech 2000watt balance power modified by me, two separate 20amp electrical lines, Marten Duke 2 diamond speakers, all pure 99.999 solid silver cables Balance connection thruout. I'm staying up late for days, I just love the organic, natural sound with a level of neutrality and transparency I haven't heard in over 30 years as a phile. I had more expensive products from Pass Labs and Bryston etc that didn't deliver what I'm hearing today in 2021 and I'm just stunned at how far smaller, zero noise, zero heat audio components bring to the table, it's amazing.
I have the MRX 740, i do any quick changes on my smartphone. just type the IP of the receiver into a browser and you done. I find that much better than using the front screen.
I have the sr-6014 you have a link on proper settings for 7.2.4 atmos 4 in ceiling I also have a 2 channel amp for the front speakers but the sound is not the same even with calibration
To me it’s unacceptable that companies release such expensive products full of bugs and shortcomings. A reason never to spend my money on those brands and stick to the good old Denon, Marantz, Onkyo, Yamaha, etc. I have owned all of them since 1998 and have always been satisfied with their performance.
I agree. Don’t think I would go Anthem unless I went with professional calibration. The idea of dealing with issues and bugs out of the box with a 3 thousand dollar processor or receiver isn’t appealing. With my Denon receiver and Audyssey X32 it just works and sounds great to me! 👍
I’ve got the 7706 and it is amazing!! I haven’t listened to the Anthem so I can’t speak to how they compare to each other, but I couldn’t be more happy with the 7706.
Right now I like marantz better because I have a sr7012. I’m sure if I had a anthem I would like it better. I never heard anthem I would like to get one for my basement one of these days.
I’ve had Yamaha, Arcam, Nad and Anthem mrx720. The new anthem was the worst experience ever with a receiver. Just to connect it to WiFi it requires a NASA engineer degree 🤦🏻♂️. The MRX720 to me sounded better and was a lot easier to use. I’ve always stayed away from denon and marantz for some strange reason and just found a crazy deal on a sr7015 for $1000 brand new and to my surprise it totally surpassed my expectations. Easy to setup, great separation when watching movies, my Spotify connect sounds better than my Arcam and the app works great. Anthem has dropped the ball for me. I was curious on your thoughts and you are correct
As you point out in one of your other videos, Marantz includes Dynamic EQ (a.k.a. loudness or Fletcher-Munson curves) while Anthem lacks it. This makes listening at low volumes sound much better on Marantz. Anthem is the only processor I know of that lacks this important feature.
I totally agree with your assessment I have a Anthem 1140 Do you have the 2019 DTS-X demo disc? If so I wonder if you could use the speaker shout out section to test your speakers for me? on my 1140 when the voice goes to rear left height, the voice comes from both L/R height speakers!! when the voice goes to rear right height, the speaker is silent, but the voice comes out muffled from my subwoofers to be clear all my speakers are wired correctly confirmed by using the Anthem test tones
I was debating between Marantz and Anthem, but didn’t know much about Anthem. Thanks to this review i made a more informed purchasing decision for my AV7706. Arrives tomorrow! So excited! Thanks KPace!
I won't go back to Marantz after having this so it'll have to be something with ARC, Dirac or something similar. I wouldn't upgrade to that because I don't want to afford it lol
69th like... ;-) 🙏🙏.. Nice video concept. Bells and whistles... nuance.. and features are great to discuss practically and functionally. :-) Very nice.
@@Kpaceguy Unfortunately we have about one price !! :( Nad T778 is very expensive ..I want either a quarantine or older Nad !! Music is also important to me! what can you recommend !? Thank you !!
How hard is it to time align audio and video with those subs distances set to 37 feet. Did you notice any more headaches with that on either receiver? Or was it unaffected.
When I had it set to the actual distance from speaker to couch it created phasing issues and It was headed of the music/movies. That's with the wireless transmitters
Between the Marantz SR7015 and Anthem 740, Marantz won hands down when tested on my B&W 704 floorstanders. Tested in stereo mode. Guess Anthem has better marketing, but high end Marantz (7015,8015) do sound better! Of course, Rotel integrated wins hands down - but be prepared to pay $5000
I think that boils down to a personal preference.... If you're not a hifi person sure Anthem.... I personally think Marantz and ARCAM are the best. ARCAM being because it has the best in the market (again opinion and some test in the market) when it comes to harmonic distortion. If you are some one who wants to using bluetooth and not audiophile system then ARCAM if not for you as they focus purely on clarity and quality rather than convenience of bluetooth or streaming music, but I believe newer models are releasing this year that start to reach some of those crowds. Marantz depending on the one you go with makes out to be the best for me, not to say Anthem is bad and not great because it totally is. Music is going to sound great on all of these if you have the right source and wires.
@Robert Robski its not your traditional eq. It's far more in depth than that. Changing curves and tuning graphs and and cut off points. And you have your basic bass and treble controls
Thanks for this. I'm still rocking an older Marantz AVR. Would you say the sound difference of the Anthem is that much better to justify its lack of ease of use.?
@@Kpaceguy how about in a setting where you would listen to 60% music. I’m just building my set up, and I am so torn between the Yamaha and anthem. I would entertain a marantz but I don’t really want a marantz or a denon. I’m just iffy with the people who say they don’t like music on it. You even liked a comment where somebody says the anthem destroys music
Great video, thanks! Question to the folks: Could someone compare the AV7706 and AVM70 in detail. I am currently considering to order either the AV7706, the AVM70 or the Rotel RSP1576MK2. Feature wise the Marantz is top notch. Sound wise the Anthem or Rotel might be better. But is this really true?
I’ve owned Marantz and Deonon products in the past, this will be my first experience with Anthem. I won’t be able to give judgment until my avm 70 arrives. Great video as always!
@@kingtrance307 I’ll never own another sound united product again. The anthem avm-70 was amazing right out of the box, but even better after room correction.
I have been torn. Been a Denon (4802R, 4308ci, x7200WA) and want to upgrade and was looking at Marantz SR7015, Denon X8500HA, and really looking at Antem MRX1140, but the Anthem lacks 8K and HDMI 2.1a and lacks DSD streaming. Also my Denon AVRs have been rock solid beasts. Also Pure Direst on the latest Denon/Marantz units really don't seem to impact anything audible.
If someone with your knowledge is experiencing problems can you imagine what it's like for the average person! I'll stick with it easy peasy setup and I think my toradol brain 😇 agrees
Is the difference in sound quality really worth the hassle of the Anthem? I'm torn between wanting the best sound possible, and relative convenience (I want to 'future proof' my system, and I've heard the Anthem is significantly better for sound). But I know nothing about setting EQ, and I don't want to have to pay someone to do it for me!
@Andrew Wood For me buying a product should be an experience, with the sound quality being the cherry on top. Now that’s what I call a good product! Otherwise it becomes like having to mine your own minerals to enjoy your Rolex.
Use your volume to adjust. I can hear him just fine at 3 clicks of volume on my phone.... Its not the voice mix.. because his volume matches the ads... its your volume level.. #turnitup
I chose the Marantz AV7706 pre pro over the Anthem because of it's simplicity to set up. I would have probably given up on the Anthem just to get it going.
Anthem is made for sound. Performance wise it’s miles beyond. Music it destroys . It’s more geared for people who want the best sound possible, and those people won’t use wireless speakers. Maranta is idiot proof. That’s all.
I don't own an athem but looking into the avm90...cause i believe all the athem fans when they say its no match to other prepro, plus its 15.4 exactly what i need,i have 13.2.4 going up from there..great video...
Great video, all the issues you stated with the the Anthem are echoed with most higher end band Pre pros /AVR s. Which lead me to believe if your a beginner coming into home theater, you would do better with one of the sound United. Pre pros or receivers(Marantz/Denon). I also upgraded from a Marantz SR8015 to a AudioControl XR4 two months ago. I haven’t messed with the Dirac yet but I hate that there was no onscreen display and to enable WiFi, my main router is upstairs and my home theater is in the basement. I had to get a 70ft Ethernet cable to get the iP address. The AudioControl sounds better but the Marantz was definitely more user friendly.
Marantz receivers have no front 3.5mm AUX input jack. That's a total deal breaker for me. The previous models of Yamaha and Onkyo DID provide that feature.
yes i like Marantz more sometime easier its better, it was so frustrating on the Anthem i dont have the patience do deal with all this setting its really not user friendly and when you finally get it to work with days of researching and tweeking with the pc and everything is it worth it.. does it really sound better then the Marantz absolutely NOt... the only thing i liked the anthem better its the look of it and the front display but again its in my rack so i dont see it loll
@@Kpaceguy Well, yeah. You know what I mean. I almost bought an Anthem but after hard thinking I ended up with the Denon X3700h. Too many convenient features to overlook.
I don't own Anthem but have heard it. I think it has a more aggressive sound, where Marantz is warm with the rolled off highs. I feel like using the audyssey app for 20.00 and implementing that curtain feature could give you the aggression you sometimes miss for HT.
The only Anthem I consider maybe better than any current Marantz highend was the prepro D2V... Since Anthem has really downgraded in term of quality... I've got in the past Denon/Yamaha/Pioneer...the AV8801 as prepro with XPR-5 Emotiva blocs...and lastly the Primare SPA23 4KVM ...To my taste my SR8015 is way above all I can have in the past (except for the Primare)... To each their ears😉... I've got too the Nad T778 in a second room to be honest it is really a piece of sh.... 🤬
Yes i agree marantz more user friendly but if you knew from the start how to set up wifi on anthem then its easy the problem is not anthem its the uses they don’t have any clue what there doing . As far as room correction audyy is poo absolutely garbage the arc is great room correction as for the distances go not everyone has that for your 2 subs so its nothing for people to worry about and putting in your distances manually is much better more accurate
@@Samzep it tells you to download Google home app to continue setup. Once you do that you're on your own to figure out what to do from there. I would like to at least experiment with it
I was debating between Marantz and Anthem, but didn’t know much about Anthem. Thanks to this review i made a more informed purchasing decision for my AV7706. Arrives tomorrow! So excited! Thanks KPace!
No problem my friend
Will u give up ur anthem for another marantz or upgrade to something like altitude what spare change has
I won't go back to Marantz after having this so it'll have to be something with ARC, Dirac or something similar. I wouldn't upgrade to that because I don't want to afford it lol
Ok! I Know it's expensive try n get some oberon 5 dali to test out see how it compares to klipsch n ur Canton
Sound quality and accuracy is everything. I was hoping that would be the focus of your review. Did you hopefully cover that in part II ?
Yeah In the 5 things for anthem
69th like... ;-) 🙏🙏.. Nice video concept. Bells and whistles... nuance.. and features are great to discuss practically and functionally. :-) Very nice.
I appreciate it!
Hy Anthem 540 or Marantz 7015 best music!?
Kef R5 Speaker
Thank you
Those aren't even in the same price point..Marantz
But at the end which one performed better on the musical side ?
Anthem every time
I think that boils down to a personal preference....
Does anthem have parametric eq for stereo music
Yes
@@Kpaceguy
Is it like 9 bands equalizer or something different i can't find nothing about
@Robert Robski its not your traditional eq. It's far more in depth than that. Changing curves and tuning graphs and and cut off points. And you have your basic bass and treble controls
@@Kpaceguy thanks
Thanks for this. I'm still rocking an older Marantz AVR. Would you say the sound difference of the Anthem is that much better to justify its lack of ease of use.?
100%
@@Kpaceguy how about in a setting where you would listen to 60% music.
I’m just building my set up, and I am so torn between the Yamaha and anthem. I would entertain a marantz but I don’t really want a marantz or a denon.
I’m just iffy with the people who say they don’t like music on it.
You even liked a comment where somebody says the anthem destroys music
@@brodierivercity5510 I like all comments. Anthem is better than yamaha denon Marantz pioneer onkyo Sony.
I would like to know how you would like mtx speakers on the marantz
We will never know. I don't own Marantz
Yes.
Really like this video. I love Marantz/Denon
Thanks for watching
Will you replace your AVM70 with the 8805-A?
I won't replace it with Marantz at all
Thanks for review. Who is better in stereo mode? Marantz or Anthem?
Anthem
I’ve owned Marantz and Deonon products in the past, this will be my first experience with Anthem. I won’t be able to give judgment until my avm 70 arrives. Great video as always!
The Verdict?
@@kingtrance307 I’ll never own another sound united product again. The anthem avm-70 was amazing right out of the box, but even better after room correction.
run it on 2.4hz wireless instead of 5ghz for app
It is
I have been torn.
Hey pace guy what's up how was d experience with klipsch man and how can I hookup my Yamaha RX v6a to a optoma hd 142x
Hdmi
How u guys dealing with d covid there are ppl still wearing to their masks
Yes my city/state has been good about doing so
Hey kpace guy how about jtr subs or direct servo
@@lyndonramchatesingh105 what about them exactly
I can’t get the app to work either on iPhone.
Glad (not glad) it's not just me or android users
Seriously, I’m good with my AV7706.
In the space I’m in, I doubt that I would notice audible differences.
Now what comes next is 5 thing I like about Anthem than Marantz .
Correct
If someone with your knowledge is experiencing problems can you imagine what it's like for the average person!
I'll stick with it easy peasy setup and I think my toradol brain 😇 agrees
💯 I would have thrown that AVM70 out the balcony a long time ago.😄
Gui work around, screen mirror your phone to tv on apple tv 4k
Pure direct mode is excellent on Marantz and Yamaha. Perfect for 2 channel Hi-Fi listening. Great video K-Pace
I appreciate it thanks for watching
I love my Marantz man. I currently have the 7709. This is my 4th Marantz. Believe it or not I even have a pair of old school Marantz speakers. Lol
In regards to distance...Fire the lazer!
Yes the sound is untouchable without spending more
If you get anthem find a professional to set up arc for you
@Andrew Wood For me buying a product should be an experience, with the sound quality being the cherry on top. Now that’s what I call a good product! Otherwise it becomes like having to mine your own minerals to enjoy your Rolex.
Maybe your Smartphone dont find the Anthem because you use two diffrent Wifis? A mean 2.4g and 5g ?
I've tried both wifis. No avail
@@Kpaceguy ok.. its sad. Have you even try a other Smartphone or tablet? In some forums they solved this problem with an other device
@@91DivineAngel not yet but I shall
I’m definitely keeping my SR8015!
Can you please raise your voice volume in all videos. its 60-70% low.
Use your volume to adjust. I can hear him just fine at 3 clicks of volume on my phone.... Its not the voice mix.. because his volume matches the ads... its your volume level.. #turnitup
You forgot about the price the Marantz is much cheaper
Well that's because it's not as capable. The 8805 is more expensive
That’s all.
I'm still waiting for my anthem shipment 😭
It'll come!
JDmsz save those tears for when it finally arrives. Tears of frustration.😄
@@Turtleback8024 by the time you get it all the issues will be gone and they'll be so many videos of how to setup that it'll be a breeze
@@Kpaceguy bet
Been over a month, still waiting on my avm 70 as well
So much for anthem. I can just hear my wife complaining about the app or turning it on. 😳🙄😔. Thanks for that review
Marantz. I just bought the SR8015.
I don't own an athem but looking into the avm90...cause i believe all the athem fans when they say its no match to other prepro, plus its 15.4 exactly what i need,i have 13.2.4 going up from there..great video...
It's hard to beat other than the trinnov that's 2x the price
?What Marantz receivers are you looking at?
Shame on anthem . That thing is pricey by some standards and they shouldn't release a product that's not ready.
yes i like Marantz more sometime easier its better, it was so frustrating on the Anthem i dont have the patience do deal with all this setting its really not user friendly and when you finally get it to work with days of researching and tweeking with the pc and everything is it worth it.. does it really sound better then the Marantz absolutely NOt... the only thing i liked the anthem better its the look of it and the front display but again its in my rack so i dont see it loll
You'll like the Marantz just fine
Hurry with the reverse video. Getting depressed here. Bought so many things based on your recommendations, including this. Just buy it.
I got you friend!!
add a mini-dsp
Well that crosses Anthem off my list!
Stay tuned for the vice versa video and let's see if you feel the same way
You literally named things that pretty much all AVRs can do.
Anthem can't
@@Kpaceguy Well, yeah. You know what I mean. I almost bought an Anthem but after hard thinking I ended up with the Denon X3700h. Too many convenient features to overlook.
What anthem were you gonna get
@@Kpaceguy the much lower-end MRX 520. All I wanted was Dirac. Turns out Dirac is pretty much all it has! Glad I chose the Denon.
Well now we all need to see it in an episode of subscriber showcase!
I don't own Anthem but have heard it. I think it has a more aggressive sound, where Marantz is warm with the rolled off highs. I feel like using the audyssey app for 20.00 and implementing that curtain feature could give you the aggression you sometimes miss for HT.
Yes I didn't use curtains with the Marantz but I do with anthem
Don't know what we're doing? Lol if you follow the instructions anthem gives you, it leads you in the wrong direction. Goodness..
@@Kpaceguy there a paper that comes with unit that tells you that you have to go to google home i thought ?
@@Samzep it tells you to download Google home app to continue setup. Once you do that you're on your own to figure out what to do from there. It also tells you to setup your anthem product with your anthem ip address. There are two address and one is easy to find one is not. The one that's not is the one you need. The one you need is never mentioned anywhere on the site or in the manual
@@Kpaceguy so Wirless is to send the arc ?
@@Samzep yes it has to all be connected on the same wifi in order to run arc and send it to the avm
Why did you make the switch to start with? Anthem is overrated….
It's still better than my previous processor regardless
I wouldn't buy an Anthem after this video!!
Maybe my anthem video after this will sway your opinion
