    Keep in mind, the Turk doesn't like to stand still. Not a scared issue but more of an impatient issue. If you're moving and shooting, they're more stable than if were to do the same on a FoxTrotter. On top of this, riding and gunning done right is a very quick way to dispatch groups with little effort. With the Turk having a LOT more health and durability, this strategy marries well with the breed.

    Stats are way overated. Most of the horses in the game are great. Just find one you feel most connected to, or just role play what your version of Arthur in that play-through would want, it makes the game experience better.

      @AnaLugia256 5 лет назад +16

      Yeah, I agree! In my first play-through I got highly attached by a female black Kentucky Saddler I caught in the wild (it was the first horse I've ever tamed) and even though the stats weren't the best, I couldn't get rid of her. I thought Arthur and her made a great team so I made it to the end of the game with her. I have zero regrets. Even though I love the Turkomans and Fox Trotters, I don't mind stats at all. Stamina is irrelevant, you can refill a tiny bit every 20 seconds or so pressing l3 wicho is more than enough to have infinite stamina.
    Bravery and health are the most important stats

    • @isabelg4269
      @isabelg4269 3 года назад +5

      Well if that extra bit of health actually matters to you, you don’t deserve that horse after bringing it so close to death. And all of my MFT are super brave (I trample gators with one of her and she didn’t buck when we weren’t level one bonding and the Roanoke cougars started chasing us) and are the fastest horses in the game, faster than Turks and Arabians. Also the Silver Dapple Pinto is the most beautiful horse in the game (along with Buell), and is free and you can get it in chapter 2. My dark bay Turk is worse than my Arabians with regards to bravery, soooo....

    • @sololoquy3783
      @sololoquy3783 3 года назад +10

      @@isabelg4269 Bravery or calmness?
      Because turk will seem more agitated, even while sprinting. That's because they are hot-blooded (War/Race), not because of lack of bravery. In gunfights, turk is a tank bar none.
      As for predator, honestly they are all the same in my experience at level 4 bonding. And i've tried shire, turkoman, mustang, andalusian, thoroughbred, standardbred, halfbred, arabian, Buell. However shire does "seem" like the bravest, but I think that's because they whine less (cold blooded draft horse) and control stiffest (make them more determined to stay the course and trample alligators). In terms of bucking off, all of them will buck me off if I'm being an idiot.
      Admittedly I haven't tried MFT, because I find MFT too beautiful for cowboy gunslinger (if there's such a thing). I find the only horse that has the most stat and still looked "rugged" for gunslinging is the dark bay turk.

    • @potatopirate5557
      @potatopirate5557 2 года назад +7

      @sololoquy I find that all of the war horses share this trait. I have tested dozens of breeds against snakes, wolves, bears and gators without calming. I push them to stay with the animal as closely as possible and even chase them. All of the war horses have the same general attitude and only buck if I push it really far AND the other animal tries to attack. But they always wait WAY longer than any other breed and give you ample time and then some to either neutralize the threat or run. They never buck at the start of confrontation like other horses.
      I have had someone show me the code and try to say there's no difference between the horses reactions other than the threat itself and the use of the calming mechanism. But they must have missed something because I've tried it so many times with many breeds from each category with the exact same predators, in the exact same conditions, with no calming usage, pushing them to stay as close as possible for as long as possible. I have even tried it with other horses I was fully bonded to VS war horses with level one bonding. The most significant difference in reaction is by far, the war horses, even when we've barely bonded, and they are consistently like this, every single time I test them. Ive had people tell me that they had great experiences in bad situations with other breeds but my tests were done with the exact same predators, in the exact same spot, as exactly replicated as possible and every time the war horses, even with less bonding, were exceptionally more stable than the other breed by far, every single time. The difference is huge. Definitely enjoy whatever horse you like. But I have tested it pretty extensively and it seems the war horses are the most brave/dependable in dangerous situations.

    The Missouri has a weird face and very stubby (being a work horse). Turkoman has the better looks, muscular and tall. Stats are the same when you get them to level4 and stamina is irrelevant when you can regain it by pressing L3. The speed test was a negligible difference in favor of the Trotter. The real question is do you value being able to ride your horse to death for no apparent reason a little bit farther without soothing or using tonics (something that's never been needed in my gameplay) or the ability to not get bucked off in a dangerous situation (which I find to be the MOST important trait among the horses. Excellent comparison nubis, good vid as usual!! Keep up the good work. My vote goes to the foxtrotter. Turks are good too but they're so whiny (I think its the race half of them), i cant put up with it. Any decent gallop or hill and they wont stop snorting, screaming, farting, etc. You spend more time trying to calm them down, than focusing on the game. Foxtrotter is much quieter. Although not as fast, Hungarians are also pretty quiet, even when they're pushed. Particularly like the piebald.

    I loved the Missouri Fox Trotter in the Epilogue. I never really did the Turkoman.
    But now that I am doing a new playthrough dishonorably, I think my favorites boil down to the Raven Black Shire, Grullo Dun Mustang, Leopard Appaloosa, and Buell.
    My Shire, The Undertaker, is a tank. I once trampled wolves with him. Same with my Mustang, Freedom Wing. I trampled a cougar once with her. They are both really brave. A bit on the slow side, but their stamina makes up for it. I could run all the way across the map from Annesburg to Strawberry without having to slow down once.
    My Appaloosa, Spotted Hope, I haven't really tried to face predators with her. But she is great when I need a bit extra speed and still have the high stamina.
    Buell, is a given. He is really fast but I haven't yet faced him off with predators. But he isn't really spooked by gunfire. I have yet to reach full bonding with him, so I'll try then.

    Stamina is overrated. Notice I didn't say unimportant. But as long as you have properly bonded the horse, you can run it from one end of the map to the other using (PS4) L3 every 5-10 seconds. Yeah the core will start wearing out, but my point is the ring can be refilled on the fly. As for top speed, acceleration is more important. (imho) Very few roads are straight enough to properly take advantage of a faster horse. And very few enemies A. chase you long enough for it to matter, B. have anything better than Morgans.
    The stability near predators and gunfire is the characteristic that will save or lose your life. (Also someone below commented about basically just finding a horse you like and making it another character in the story, I agree completely)

      I'm becoming more and more convinced that bravery within breeds changes from horse to horse. My Dark Bay Shire may not be the fastest, but by god she is brave. The only time she bucks me off is when I push her too hard very close to alligators. But apart from that she's amazing. Never bucks me off around cougars. When I'm surrounded by wolves she either stands still or rears, allowing me to take my time killing them all. Gives me plenty of time around grizzlies too. But I remember having a Shire before who wasn't as brave. Perhaps there's a random value assigned to the courage stat itself.

    Speed is speed, ad the MFT's small advantage is real, but as for stamina, In 6 levels of rdr2 story, I have never once ridden a horse so long and so hard. Both are fast enough to escape from any npc long before they run out of stamina, and on the occasion where you get jumped while having less than full stamina, you can pop a tonic.
    I see nothing from the MFT that outweighs the Turks advantage in not dumping you on your backside when jumped by wolves and being able to soak up another few bullets.

    Missouri Fox Trotter all the way for me. But I do love the Turkoman as well, I really like the Dark Bay and Silver coats. Buell is amazing as well, but you can't get him until late end game. The next best Dutch Warmblood is the Chocolate Roan one. I don't have him currently in my file, but I wonder how well my boy does against being scared by wolves and gunshots etc. Maybe you could compare a Dutch Warmblood to the Fox Trotter or Turk? Or compare the Warmblood to the Andalusian? All these horses are unique and I personally find sometimes stats aren't everything. I tried the dark bay Andalusian and it was amazing despite what its stats say.

    I choose the Turkoman. 1) Love the grey coat and 2) their courage more than makes up for it.
    Don't really care much about speed and stamina becomes a little redundant at max bond. Keep encouraging/calming them every few seconds and it restores a bit of stamina, meaning they can run much longer distances.

  • @Greg3706
    @Greg3706 Год назад +1

    The Turkoman, in my opinion, is better than the Fox Trotter. Of course that’s very biased because I am usually a bounty hunter, so I need a horse that can handle lots of damage. I have both max bonded bay Turkoman and the blue roan Missouri Fox Trotter. Honestly, there isn’t much of a speed difference, but stamina can be a problem at times with the Turkoman. I can go from Saint Denis to Valentine no issue, though. Maybe even Blackwater, but I’ll have to see. By calming you horse while running, their stamina goes up real fast. By doing that throughout our trip, stamina is not an issue for semi-long distances. There are times when we need to walk for a second, though. I have never been bucked off the Turkoman around guns, explosions, gators, wolves, or other critters (the bear is the only exception). My Fox Trotter on the other hand has bucked me off and gotten me killed while bounty hunting, predator hunting, and in gun fights.
    I personally believe the Turkoman is the better choice for someone who needs a strong versatile horse, and the Missouri Fox Trotter as a race horse.

    Fantastic video, probably your best so far! Great way to objectively compare breeds. I think bravery goes up with bonding level, but you had them both at Lvl 1 right? Also out of curiosity, were you pressing the button to calm them down when you were testing stableness?
    One suggestion I have would be to expand the last test a bit, not just with wolves but with alligators because they're pretty easy to test with. Cougars would be great but they are much harder to find in the same place and under the same circumstances. Also it would be amazing if you could put them face to face just to compare breed sizes.
    Other breed/horse 'battles' I'd like to see:
    - American Standardbred (Black or Buckskin) vs Thoroughbred (Blood Bay or Dapple Grey);
    - American Standardbred (Black or Buckskin) vs Nokota (Blue Roan or White Roan);
    - Nokota (Reverse Dapple Roan) vs Thoroughbred (Brindle);
    - Nokota (Reverse Dapple Roan) vs Arabian (White);
    - Andalusian (Dark Bay) vs Mustang (Grullo Dun or Wild Bay);
    - Mustang (Grullo Dun or Wild Bay) vs Appaloosa (Blanket or Leopard Blanket);
    - Hungarian Halfbred (Dapple Dark Grey) vs Dutch Warmblood (Seal Brown or Sooty Buckskin);
    - Hungarian Halfbred (Dapple Dark Grey) vs Ardennes (Bay Roan);
    - Shire (Light Grey or Dark Bay) vs Hungarian Halfbred (Flaxen Chestnut or Piebald Tobiano);
    - Ardennes (Strawberry Roan) vs Dutch Warmblood (Chocolate Roan);
    - Appaloosa (Blanket or Leopard Blanket) vs American Paint (Overo, Tobiano or Splashed White);
    - Appaloosa (Leopard) VS American Paint (Grey Overo);
    - Kentucky Sadler (Black, Chestnut Pinto, Grey or Silver Bay) vs Tennessee Walker (Black Rabicano, Chestnut, Dapple Bay or Red Roan);
    - Arabian (Black) vs Turkoman (Gold).
    These are just some ideas anyway, thanks for another awesome video!

      DevilAnse1977 lol stop lying my lvl 4 dark bay Turkoman always bucks me off when a cougar comes to close,infact he can’t even handle three wolves which somehow my rose Arabian can,also speaking of the rose Arabian,the rose Arabian is the best horse in the game wanna know why,no.1 their agitation cooldown timer is much quicker then the Turkoman and fox trotter no.2 they have elite handling so if some wolves or cougars rush you from the side or from infront you can quickly turn and run away and they also have the highest acceleration so this allows you to speed up very quickly and escape from any predator,you can also use it to quickly ram and kill predators.It won’t work with the Turkoman or fox trotter because it will take them too long to get away because of their awful acceleration and handling.Infact I even tested how long they would take to buck me off infront of a pack of four wolves in the same save and my rose Arabian took the longest to buck me off.But oh I guess that’s too hard to believe for you since you’ve Ben brainwashed into believing that the rose Arabian is skittish and a chicken hearted horse,so what I did was in the same save I went to a swamp where there was an alligator and I tried getting as close to it as possible on all three horses and my roses Arabian would still allow me to move closer while running and infact it would even allow me to push it at times,i would keep using that elite handling to turn and constantly push the alligator.I tried doing the same with the Turkoman and fox trotter and they bucked me right away when I got too close.You can try it and test it for yourself since finding a lone alligator isn’t hard compared to finding wolves or cougars.Trust me you’ll be really shocked,but make sure that your rose Arabians bonding is atleast lvl 2.At lvl 1 she’ll buck you off the same distance a lvl 4 Turkoman or fox trotter would.

    In single player it doesnt matter what horse you pick, go with what looks cool and you feel connected with.
    If you play online, go with a brave horse with max health like Rank 20 Traders Kladruber or Perlino Andalusian, Ardennes is not a bad pick either. Speed doesn't matter, as there is only very minor difference really until R* actually makes the speed difference something else.

    There seem to be a lot of other variables for courage of each horse, not just the breed. I've had a wild, black American Standardbred that would stand in the face of Grizzlies (even though they're supposed to be scardy-cats, and most of that breed usually are a bit) when my Turk, Paint, and Foxtrotter have all had "issues". There's some hidden mechanics at work that someone will figure out. I wonder if it's exposure and reward - I'm not sure. When a horse of mine balks at a snake I always get it as close as possible, kill the snake and get the horse to stand next to the carcass which I then load as a trophy thinking I'm showing the horse that everything is OK. No clue if this helps, but it *seems* to.... can't be sure though.

    I tested a variety of horses as well. In my opinion, and it might sound crazy, but the horse with the overall best attitude towards everything is the Belgian Draft Horse. Doesn't mind predators- I was able to kill a panther with a tomahawk on the back of one of these (not throwing it- just letting the panther get close enough to hack repeatedly at it). I tested against wolves, panther, alligators, cougars and bear. It did pretty good with all of them. It does well with gunfire. It is a big horse that Arthur looks good on (unlike the Arabian). And the best thing about the Belgian Draft Horse is:L it's totally FREE. You can get one literally anywhere on the map on any road. They bond quickly and they have pretty decent stamina.

    Well if u go by online. The turkoman is the second horse most longest horse takes to unlock. At least the dark bay one unlocks at 56. Then both fox trotters at lvl 58 then the turkoman silver and gold coat at lvl 60 then lvl 66 the white arabian and lvl 70 the black one. So the turkoman is the 2nd best horse in the game.

    I do not, ever, pay attention to stats. The horses I choose to ride, are ALWAYS purely based upon looks, alone. That being said, I have my favorites, but even if I WASN'T completely basing my choice of horses on looks alone, the Arabians would STILL be OUT. They look absolutely horrible. They remind me of the coin-operated toy horses for kids outside of grocery stores and supermarkets. They are sickly, tiny, and cartoon-ish looking. I feel emasculated when mounted on one. As for the battle between the Turkomans and the Fox Trotters, actually the Amber Champagne Missouri Fox Trotter has always been in my top favorites, in terms of looks alone, so the amazing stats end up being a bonus. I never ride Turkomans because they have always looked like sick giraffes. Their legs are too long, their necks are too long. As I said, they are like riding giraffes, that look like they have worms. I never ride Shires, Belgian Drafts, or the Ardennes horses, because this isn't Skyrim. Lol. No, seriously, those 3 just are like riding Clydesdale work horses. The Ardennes horses are just RIDICULOUSLY MASSIVE. So now that I've expressed my biased opinion, please allow me to list my top favorite horses:
    1. Cremello Gold Dutch Warmblood (Buell)
    2. Seal Brown Dutch Warmblood
    3. Amber Champagne Missouri Fox Trotter
    4. Splashed White American Paint
    5. Rose Grey Andalusian

      Leon Shore riding a Turkoman really makes me feel uncomfortable because I hate the way it’s back legs move while it’s in a gallop,it’s exactly what you described it as a giraffe.As for Arabians I kinda disagree,they look more like sea horses rather than toy and cartoon horses,as for their size,yeah it kinda does feel weird riding a small pony but I really like it’s gallop,makes me feel like I’m riding a small motor bike.The white Arabian is definitely the prettiest out of all the Arabians period.Black and rose kinda look ugly.

      @nerdoutreachprogram5358 5 лет назад

      Little Traveller well let me let you in on a secret, if you don’t already know, you don’t have to shoot anyone at all. I mean you can check my video if you want, it’s short but I’ve streamlined and perfected the method where you can do it without having to worry much about getting a bounty- just lasso the stranger off their horse and drag them for about three or four seconds then release them and ride away fast, pay attention to the red highlight on the edge of your radar and at the exact moment it disappears (when you get a certain distance away it will disappear) you turn straight around and ride back and the stranger will either be on a new horse or walking toward a new horse. If you save beforehand then you can just reload if it’s not a horse you want. I can get a new horse every 5 minutes or less so you can usually get any horse you want in less than an hour.

    Missouri. Statistically best horse I've had. I had him to the end during my 1st playthrough. I had a Turkoman but he was a little bitch (sorry xD), he was bucking me off everytime. I sold him for an Andalusian and it was the best decision I could make. Decent stats but she was brave as hell. Turkoman was crying even if panther or cougar was like 5000 meters away. Great stats, a really beautiful horse but I couldn't get attached to him. From my experience I have to say that every horse with really great stats (Turkoman, Missouri, Arabian, even Buell) had problems with being calm. Not the bravest horses in the game. Better for riding and exploration but not good for hunting. Cougar, panther, snake or alligator, doesn't matter, always getting scared, bucking me off. Brown Leopard Appaloosa and Andalusians were the strongest, the bravest. American Paints weren't that bad as well. I think Grey Overo is my fav horse in the game. Fine speed, great stamina and really beautiful.

I still remember when I was hunting for cougars for Pearson or trapper and he was bucking me off even if big cat wasn't that close to us.
