    I mastered that game I grow up in the 80's watching all the guy's that could play good learned from all them then I was able to beat all them i remember when I 1st got the number 1 score in the immoral section where u get to put up 20 initial's felt like i conquered the world i would put millions in score n nobody could take it down but me my favorite game of all time n I can still play it good as I did when I was 11/12 n I'm 49 now just commented for the memory n the fun I had hopefully some other stargate experts will leave there experience and memory about stargate peace.

      I too mastered the game. It got to where a single quarter would last literally as long as I wanted it to. Once I played for 8 hours straight, was tough with drinking and peeing, but I did it, I think I got 12 million. Stopped because I got too tired.

      @@LyonsArcade I got good at it; I eventually bought one for myself, but the electronics got old and the case got fuzzy. I still have it, and fixed it a few times but eventually the shag carpet didn't go away. I would like to do a full restoration some day. Let me know how feasible that is.

      Definitely the GOAT of arcade games. One has to have honed their skills but the real trick or secret is to build up your arsenal in the beginning waves by rescuing and placing 4 or more humanoids into the Stargate. That not only warps one ahead in waves but also in points hence the build up in ships, smart bombs, and inviso. At the point, as mentioned in the video one can die several times but also keep On playing and advancing in points. Game play gets much more difficult tho having a reinforced arsenal really helps hones one skills and play longer... eventually it pays off and once comfortable and adept at maneuvers, it’s one of the most satisfying and exhilarating games to play.

    I LOVED Stargate when I was like 14 years old, it's the best arcade game ever created bar none; man what a game. What made it great was that if you were good you could play a long time on a quarter, and that was the whole idea. We didn't have much money then, so you always wanted to play the games you got the most out of your money. I recently found a cool Defender tabletop game with authentic controls but so far they haven't made a proper Stargate. But I'm on line and when/if they do I'll pounce on it. I once turned the game completely over back in the day, but only ever did it once, now I can't even get much over 40,000 on my Defender, but I'm old now so it hurts my back to lift all those humanoids. I know I know, lift with your knees, got it.

    I agree. Most difficult of all the classic games. Watching someone who is good at Defender / Stargate is like watching an alien life form. I can't even comprehend what's going on.
    Such amazing sounds. When I hear the background noise from an 80's arcade in my head, Defender / Stargate sounds are always in the forefront. While for gameplay I always preferred the more enclosed sides around the monitor like Stargate has, the Defender cabinet is iconic.

    I could usually clock Defender but,to my eternal regret,I never got to play Stargate in an arcade-I searched the arcades of northern England in an epic yet fruitless endevour-I had hoped that being skilled at Defender(in my opinion the greatest game ever)would translate into stargate but alas I'll never know-the beauty of Defender was that the endless coins and practice did pay off into eventual mastery,though that took a great deal of practice-as a tip press thrust and fire repeatedly at the same time so you travel around destroying your foes and use the reverse button and fire to sneak up and destroy!

    I've been gaming quite a long time and you had some really intriguing info. My local store back in the day had Defender, and I'd play it numerous times until one day they got rid of it and replaced it with Stargate, and that thing sucked my quarters up even worse. The store also had Centipede and Up and Down, in which I'd almost always get the high score on both.

    The legendary difficulty of Stargate has a bit of a legend behind it. As the story goes, Williams had a test machine out in the wild that they used to check whether the game was seeing sufficient turnover (these things are intended to make money for someone, after all), and they kept getting these ridiculously long play times, so they kept boosting the difficulty level until they eventually just gave up and released it anyway. Turns out their test arcade was also the home turf for the national Defender champion, which was kind of skewing their results.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  4 года назад +1

      +Bryan Roth Those Gottlieb's are the worst if they get wet... they're almost made out of cardboard, you know because you've dealt with it... Galaga was made out of the same stuff, also the dedicated "Contra" was that same stuff... once they get wet, they swell up horribly, and everywhere there's a scratch the scratch swells up! These Williams cabinets were made out of plywood so they're pretty resilient, they all get wet but you're right, those Gottlieb cabinets are in horrible shape if any water at all has been on them....

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  7 лет назад

      They made a little multigame arcade version in the early 2000's, with Defender and Defender II in one cabinet, so by then they must have abandoned the Stargate name. I wonder if it was a legal thing, because Stargate is a great name and everybody already knows it's the sequel.... The Nintendo game was called Defender II, too... very weird.

    • @chrisstory563
      @chrisstory563 7 лет назад +1

      I suspect after the sci-fi movie under the name stargate must have had the giving them seconds thoughts to avoid confusions and legal issues. there was already TV series based of the movie coming out at that time. so I think they made a smart move. Stargate was a good name for a defender II but what's weird was when I was a kid. I thought stargate was a knock off of defender II. Bump & Jump had a name change in the middle of it run as well.

    Stargate never had the same smooth quality gameplay feel that defender had. I got good at Stargate, but Defender just felt like it had a smoother better visual gameplay feeling. But, re stargate, there was some trick you could do with the teleporter by flipping the ship backwards as you went thru and something else so you could skip levels, but I'm a little unclear exactly on how to do it now ..

    in it. It's a 2 player console like yours but there is no smart button. It this something that can be fixed or added..or turned on?

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  3 года назад

      It depends on what board is in it, how it was wired, etc. We made some multigames with those on it back in the day and basically the left and right does the reverse and the smartbomb / hyperspace were wired up to the start buttons. Sounds like you may have one that they didnt' hook all the buttons up on it.

    • @jclinton5
      @jclinton5 3 года назад

      @@LyonsArcade
      So maybe it's possible to hook it up? What's weird is that while playing defender there is no smart bomb button. But if you play Stargate the 1st smart bomb explodes the first time you touch the fire button. After that you can fire away all through your life until you die. On your send and 3rd life its the same. First time you touch the fire button to shoot the smart bomb goes off and then you can shoot. Smart bomb only works 1 per life upon first touch of the fire button. I know that's not correct. But is this a wire that needs to be moved from the fire button to the player 1 button or is it programming? Tbanks
