It wouldn't be bad to make the old Seminary a Catholic Institution (can be of social charity or learning for avoiding a loss of Christianity in the old site).
The archbishop who lives nearby hasn't moved. St Joe's U. is pretty much next door on City Ave. So not sure what you mean. I've been in the seminary's library. It's amazing.
This is so sad that the decrease in the number of seminarians and vocations to the Priesthood is due in part to the Bishops and it’s sad to see this historic building closed because of them. The Bishops must do a better job!
@SKF358 And yet Catholicism is growing in other parts of the world, e.g. East Timor, Africa and Papa New Guinea just to name a few. What’s more, even though we’re looking at one seminary downsizing, Catholicism overall is increasing also in the US.
@@eanthony3108 Totally didn’t have anything to do with decades of sexual abuse that was done by our priests or the cover up our prelates… Notice I said “our”, I’m Catholic.
Sad to witness the demise of the Catholic Church it is a shadow of its former self, praise to you Jesus, Mary your Mother and all the Apostles and Saints, glory to God in the highest and peace to his people on earth
It's just not as white European as it was. That's part of why the Pope went to Indonesia. Those are the places where Catholicism is still alive and growing. Philadelphia by contrast will probably never have an archbishop who becomes a cardinal again.
I graduated from St Charles in the ‘90s. I love my priesthood but have zero attachment to the seminary. May God bless the new place. I’m glad the unwanted art was given away or sold rather than destroyed.
It is so sad! Saint Charles Seminary was sold for the mighty dollar! Archbishop Chaput sold the seminary on his own. Nelson Perez the current archbishop sold Hallhahan High School. The first and oldest all Catholic girls high school in the United States. He refused to talk or meet with any alumni. It sold for an estimated $50 million. The seminary, $80 million. Where is all the money?
It's a shame whaf happened to the seminary. I've visited a few times. It felt like a ghost town in sections because it was so empty from its peak. I'm very excited to see the new campus if they ever have an open house!
Poor journalism; a puff piece; the real story is the decline of the gospel message of Jesus of Nazareth; this seminary since John Paul II has only groomed young men to minister just to the right side of for church; let’s pray for the day when this seminary prepares young men and women to minister to the full spectrum of Catholics
Women cannot be ordained to the Catholic priesthood. If you so desire, join the Episcopalians. They could use some more people to fill their own emptying pews.
No kidding! She will induce more cardiac arrests in old devout faithful. It is still unclear if Perry or the Archdiocese owns the former 1920's convent of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart. Well as a seminary it would have been nice to hear from priests and seminarians rather than two old ladies.
That Bishop would be a better Pope than the one in Rome!!!

Turns out systemic coverup of child rape is bad for the health of an institution

Settling sexual abuse lawsuits.
The seminary is leaving the old, big campus because they don't have the money to support it.

Why interviewing these women instead of former seminarians who still have to pay for their seminary loans?
This is a disgrace!
