The future Edward VIII visits his Empire, with Indian royalty, elephants, palaces and temples.
Ten years after King George V's Coronation Durbar in India, the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII), extensively toured India and Burma (Myanmar). The Prince of Wales is welcomed at the Gateway of India in Bombay (Mumbai) with a guard of honour, and received by Indian royalty at a durbar. He visits Poona (Pune), the Gaekwad of Baroda, and Rajput royalty in Udaipur, amid spectacular palaces and elephants. He meets the Maharaja of Jodhpur and goes on a pig-sticking hunt; finally, he visits the Maharajah of Bikaner, amid the Camel Corps.
The Prince's India visit seems intended to familiarise him with the outposts of Empire - often more resplendent and exotic than back home - to underline his power over Indian royalty, and get a taste of Indian hospitality. The scenes of pig-sticking and child marriage may be troubling to modern viewers. The intertitles are deferential to British royalty, sometimes with patronising comments on the natives. This is one of a series of films shot during the tour by George Woods-Taylor; a compilation film was released under the title Our Greatest Ambassador.

The mob turned unruly and riots followed . The police opened fire . This turmoil of three days killed 59 people. Opening fire on protesters was nothing new in British India. The protestors, protested for more rights, better pay and rights equal to their white rulers which never came to be. Force and brutality was always on the cards rather then reasoning. The Jallia wala bagh massacre is a prime example were people in Amritsar in 1919 were merely protesting for better rights but were shamelessly abd brutally gunned down by General Dyers forces in which 3000 plus people lost their lives. Dyer was so merciless that even the people trying to escape were gunned down. The crime was only protesting. The General got a away with it as you would expect during colonial rule as the Judge was White and in favour of the General who went back to England to live a happy retired life after ruining thr lives of thousands of families. There are many more examples of colonial brutalities during the British Raj aswell.

This is the era in India in which my parents were born, both of whom later benefitted from obtaining medical and engineering degrees in the early 1940s from university colleges of medicine and engineering that had been built by the British some decades earlier. My mum and dad also said how clean and orderly cities like Mysore, Bombay and Karachi used to be under British rule. However, my parents, like me, found hunting abhorrent, either by the princes, maharajahs and sultans of India or the British rulers, or the hard life of the camels and elephants used in pagaentry or war, and so the hunting scene of wild boars at the end by "pigsticking" was a shock to me as I thought it was only a barbaric practice in USA.

It all started with the islamic invasion.... timur, nadirshah, abdali... world was seeing that india had weak, corrupt and indulgent kings and rulers. Indian kings never learnt from their past that they need to have a formidable army to repulse the attacks (as alaudin khilji repulsed the mongols several times).English, just used the right opportunity and got help from traitors (plassey battle the deciding factor) and established their rule. 1857 could have turned the tide but for the lack of unity, cordination and descipline among the sipoys and mutineers, lack of a good leadership(the old and fragile both in age and character bahadur shah was not a good choice to be leader ). The idea of an united india should have been there before the 1857war, then it would have been different. But having said so i doubt what improvements could have come if 1857 was a success.

It was only Muslim kings who fought with British. Starting from Aurangzeb (Child's war, British officers fell on his feet and begged pardon), after Child's war even upto 50 years after Aurangzeb's death the Brits didnt do any mischief in India. That was the fear he had instilled in them.
Then started Anglo Mysore wars. Hyder Ali defeated British 3 times. Hyder Ali was the inspiration for Americans fighting against British. They even commissioned a warship in his name called Hyder Ally. But unforunately Tipu Sultan was defeated as Marathas refused to fight against British.
Then battle of Plassey, where nawab of Bengal 21 year old Siraj ud daula was martyred. In this war Jagath seths, a rich bania family financed and supported British.
      Then battle of buxar.
Finally war of independence 1857 was led by Bahadur Shah Zafar in which Scindia and many other Hindu and Sikh kings supported British.
Hindu kings accepted British slavery without any fight.

I can say India was made by Britain only. Indians should be thankful and appreciate work done in India during colonial time. They advanced india to new age from hindu and islamic darkness. Also I assure you Britisher were the cause of unity of India otherwise India was divided in many small backward countries like many states you have today.

What shall King choose ?? They chosed life of their people, because you don't know how hard it is for a hindu king with vedic values.. (For those kings, their people/praja came first & they accepted deal to save their people) .. But britishers captured the country like a heartless capitalist to leech every penny out of that.. They killed those what comes in their way of business.. This is why GDP of India dropped from 22% to 2% but because of those kings our saints, our temples, our ashrams and vedic knowledge is still alive to boost the country again..
